Rivetra Summer Fest 2025 Day 2: Cottage core 🏡

He's sitting on a blanket on a flower field near a cottage. It's a sunny, beautiful summer day. A small child with black hair is playing nearby, among the clovers and flowers. Probably looking for a four-leaf clover. He's watching over that cute brat.

Then Petra appears from behind. She's wearing her civilian clothes, a beautiful green skirt and brown corset with a white blouse. She looks gorgeous. The wind caresses her light caramel hair. She's smiling with a happiness he has never seen on her.

Levi hates the beach. He hates sand, water, geese, crowds, the overwhelming sense of peer pressure to eat corn dogs, all of it. The only thing he doesn’t hate, however, is the hot lifeguard.

So, needless to say, he spends copious amounts of time at the beach.

But for now, in this moment, he smells the faint traces of salt in her hair, the scent of the ocean air from this island's shores. A reminiscence of the first time he dove headfirst into the uncharted depths that was her.

And how, in another lifetime, in a world where the tides may have turned the wrong way, he might have never known how the weight of her entire being anchored him to the earth.

Taste of Tea: Rivetra Summer Fest 2025 Preview!

Here is a preview of the threeshot I'm planning to release in full for Rivetra Summer Fest 2025! It's going to be too smutty for Tumblr so the full work will be on AO3 and I'll link it here on my Tumblr. I'll also be on vacation in Japan during the actual event week so I'm just going to be uploading a chapter every couple of days throughout the week. I also didn't end up adhering to the prompts (sorry!!), but I just wrote based on the general theme of a Hot Summer, hehehe. I hope you all enjoy!

Work Title: Taste of Tea

Chapter 1: Scent of Soap (not the complete chapter yet)

An ordinary day's morning training was seemingly over, and Levi Squad–Eld, Gunther, Oruo, and Petra–stood quietly but visibly out of breath in front of their ever-unflappable Captain, awaiting his next order. Captain Levi admitted smugly to himself that they had followed his instructions well from their first day with him: rather than panting boorishly (and inefficiently) through open mouths, breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth, no matter how out of breath one was. But upon closer inspection, a different sense revealed the offender here: the smell.

Captain Levi wrinkled his nose and flared his nostrils at the beginnings of stink starting to sink in amongst his squad members. He knew that after sweating profusely all through morning training, all that sweat would inevitably start to smell the longer they put off bathing. And the summer heat would be no help in keeping that under control. Thus, the usual order of business was clear:

“Shower time. Then lunch.” Levi crossed his arms and glanced dispassionately at each of them in turn. “See you in the mess hall. You know the drill.”

All four squad members saluted and uttered a dutiful “Yes, sir!” but then Eld, Gunther, and Oruo all groaned in unison while Petra looked on in silent curiosity.

“But we're ravenous, Captain. We worked hard, didn't we?” Oruo whined before trailing off in hopelessness. He contorted his jowls in obvious displeasure, but his Captain would not be swayed.

“Then you'll be motivated to shower faster.”

Gunther sighed, patted Oruo's shoulder, and muttered in the latter's ear, “He's right, you know.”

Levi shrugged, his arms still crossed. “If we're not on an expedition, then we should take full advantage of our shower facilities while we have them.”

And Petra could not quite stifle a giggle of amusement behind her hand.

“I agree, Captain,” she said. “See you at lunch!”

He gave her a nod and watched her wave cheerily at him before finally drifting off after the guys. Somehow, the warmth she brought to him every day made every day a little sweeter. And he felt the beginnings of a smile spread across his lips.

As for Petra, being on the receiving end of male body odor was something unavoidable, as a woman in the military. An unavoidable downside of her job, having to work around majority-male comrades all day, every day. However, everyone in Levi Squad underwent a higher degree of scrutiny than usual, being under the famously clean-freak Captain Levi, so she ultimately considered herself relatively lucky. After all, her best friend Nifa was stuck with Hange Zöe as her Section Leader, and Petra never heard the end of Nifa’s sighs of resignation at Hange's neglect of personal cleanliness.

Captain Levi was different from the others, Petra thought to herself as she walked off on her own to the women's barracks. He actually cared about the things that happened to matter to her, too.

Levi remained somewhat lost in thought, but he could sense the ambush coming: the sound and scent of Hange flinging their arm around the back of his shoulders and chuckling in his ear. He flared his nostrils in mild annoyance at the assault on his senses, but he gave Hange a good-natured shove and swatted their arm away.

“You know, Levi, on the other hand,” Hange began, “it helps with muscle recovery to eat plenty of protein after exercise. That's why my subordinates eat first, then shower.”

“Tch. Then that's explains why you reek.”

“Aww come on, don't be like that! There are more important things than keeping up appearances.”

At this, Levi took a moment of uncharacteristic contemplation–something he tended not to do when Hange would spout some words of wisdom.

“More than one thing can be equally important,” he said at last.

Hange burst out in fresh laughter. “That's right! Being clean and strong are both your strong suits, right?”

As Hange waved a brief goodbye and disappeared through the doors to the barracks, Levi was left standing there alone again, with Petra’s smile still on his mind.

Can I still be her superior officer, and be allowed to like her…?
