BUT then Markus starts to pay attention to it because hey, Connor likes it. And he realizes pretty quickly it's not all just screaming and crashing.
He still doesn't like it, but now he can focus on how it made and the craft behind it. He tries to talk to Connor about it but Connor isn't really interested in that. He just wants to listen to it and have fun.
RK1K headcanon where Connor wants to listen to more music genres to see which one he likes so Markus shows him his favorite songs and music, all composed of soft, soulful melodies and emotional ballads.
One day Connor remembers that he wants to check out Hank's favorite heavy metal bands like he said once and decides to listen to it with Markus. The other android could already tell by the cover that this was definitely not his type of music but doesn't want to disappoint Connor so he just sits there trying and failing to not grimace while Connor bops his head to the loud incomprehensible crashing and screaming while smiling like :].
Connor: This sounds much better now that I'm free to enjoy whatever I want. Do you like it? :D
Markus: ... It's something 🙃

Just like the dynamic of them learning exactly how to deal with the other having a difficult time accepting help and care. And that's why they fit so well.
They're both stubborn af, and will not back down. But there is also a trust there that they won't show with anyone else, and I think they can finally fall into that rhythm together.
(Like, the church scene. Markus has his friends, but they constantly look at him with 'what do we do?'. Connor shows up and instantly tells him 'I'll do something, here's a plan, I'll help'. At the same time, Connor always throws himself in danger, but Markus is instantly concerned for him, but he also lets him do it.)
(Yes I love that scene sue me)
And just yes. They work. They're stubborn but the other knows this and knows what to say and do. And it works.
despite loving the idea that both markus and connor are givers and don't know how to accept being cared for in rk1k scenarios, i wanna see more of them being a powercouple instead
like they are fully capable of defending themselves and can trust each other to do the same since markus is built like a damn tank with how much he can get shot and how connor is built to be aglie, swift, and strategic and by gavin's words in fanfics, the literal terminator
they balance each other out a lot in areas where they are flawed and honestly wanna see the mutual teasing because lighthearted markus was taken away from us too early and connor teasing hank about he eden club mission / gavin about their 'bromance' was when i rlly liked how smug he can choose to be
don't get me wrong, I love every single angsty fic/art about them but i wanna explore new things too
tl;dr - rk1k powercouple era

I also love how Markus is the first to not 'take' from him. He offers to go into Cyberlife, and Markus expresses concern. He doesn't turn him down, but also needs him so he thanks him and tells him to be careful.
And Connor's face as he does that just 💔. Markus treats his as an equal and wants him to come back and it's just awwww I cant
Markus was the first person in Connor's life, like ever, whose first reaction to him wasn't hostility or fear. It's Connor who came with a gun, and despite that Markus talked with him right away like he's worth something, like he is someone. And before that it literally never happened (for those he met for the first time, at least. Humans despise him upon seeing him for the first time, androids hate and fear him, and then there's Markus (or in some cases it's North) who somehow expressed none of the above and went on a completely different route of trying to relate to him instead)

Ohhh, do you have the name or link to the fic?
Human zombie apocalypse au
Markus and Connor had been part of a group before disaster struck and they were separated. While Markus quickly reunited with the survivors, Connor was nowhere to be found. What follows is day that turn into weeks of not knowing, of accepting the worst, of desperation and that tiny, tiny sliver of hope that maybe Connor is still alive somewhere.
Meanwhile, Connor is on his own, unable to sleep more than a few hours each night, leaving signs and hoping that Markus has survived and is somewhere out there, but each day that passes makes the hole in his heart deeper.
Eventually, Markus and the group come across a tunnel. It’s dark and terribly unsafe, but the sound of zombies and a gun being fired from inside has Markus rushing in, ready to safe whoever is in trouble.
There’s a person fighting inside, and with the help of the newly arrived group they quickly take down the zombies in the dark. It isn’t until Markus shines his flashlight on the person that he sees who standing before him.
Connor is there, and he’s alive. Their reunion is one of hugs, holding each other’s faces as if not quite believing what they’re seeing, a kiss and then a hug again. Markus clings Connor so tightly to him that Connor thinks he might never let go. (He doesn’t want him to, either)
That night they sit a bit further away from the group, leaning against the tunnel wall while a small fire keeps them warm. Connor is curled into Markus’ side, head on his chest and one arm wrapped around him. He’s finally asleep, finally able to let his guard down and rest after weeks of paranoia and stress.
Markus has him pulled close, and he looks down at the brown hair with soft eyes. Connor has come back to him, and with it came the hope that kept him going for so long.
He presses a kiss to Connor’s forehead and leans back again, staying awake the whole night, just to make sure Connor’s still there. (He doesn’t plan on letting go anytime soon.)

Dog café
Markus takes Connor on a date to a dog café, because he knows how much Connor will love it, and he loves making Connor happy. And Connor does love it, a lot. From the moment they enter Connor is sold, he's on his knees the second the first puppy runs over to him, and it takes Markus literally dragging him up to get them to their table.
It's when they ordered their Thirium based food that Markus realizes this might have been a mistake. No matter how much he likes watching Connor be in absolute awe of something, he also would like to have a conversation and well...
It's not that Connor isn't trying, he just-
“Oh yes, that was de- Oh my God Markus this one has spots!”
So after a while Markus just accepts that this is how the date will go and sits back to observe his boyfriend's hair getting messed up by playful balls of fur. If being neglected for an hour can make Connor's usually perfect and stoic look be this messy and adorable, Markus will gladly sit here and watch.
(But one thing is for sure, they're never getting a dog.)

Winter fluff
Connor hates the winter and the cold, but there is one thing he loves to do.
When Markus is already in bed, cuddled in the blankets creating a cocoon of softness and warmth, Connor crawls in next to him.
Suspecting nothing, Markus makes space for him and gladly allows Connor to join him in his nest of blankets.
Markus’s scream when Connor presses his cold feet against his back is probably loud enough to wake the neighbors, but Connor's evil laughter somehow manages to overshadow it.
And when Connor gets a snowball in the face the next time he leaves the house, well, Markus would say he deserved it.

Short respite
So you know that scene in Frozen where Anna and Hans run through the castle and hide from the guard?
I'm picturing Connor and Markus in some kind of New Jericho where they can work to get rights for androids after the initial revolution, and they're just tired. Tired from all the work, from the constant eyes on them, from all the bullshit the human politicians give them. And usually, when they're in Jericho, it's only androids that require their help and they love to give it.
But tonight, tonight it's just all too much.
“Markus, I need this.” “Markus, I need that.” “Markus, we're running low on this.” “Connor, we have security issues.” “There's this problem, there's that problem, and another ten just showed up.”
So they're sitting in Markus’s office, and for the past hour no work has been done. It's just been minutes of staring at towers of paperwork and stressing over things that they don't have. When the millionth problem gets reported, Markus sighs and stands, looking at Connor.
“Wanna run away?”
Usually, Connor would never. But tonight, tonight he smiles, checks to see if the hall is empty, and they run.
People are looking for them, but they hide and jump and parkour around the building, letting go of responsibilities for a moment. They're gliding through the halls, hiding behind doors and plants, pressing in corners and rushing past guards’ back to not be seen. And it's fun.
They end up somewhere high, both rushing with adrenaline and almost giggling at the stupidity of their actions. They can oversee Detroit, and Markus makes sure to not get too close to the edge so Connor feels safe.
They just sit there for the night, close to each other and listening to the sounds of the world. They know they have to return to work soon, there's too much to do for them to be absent forever.
But for tonight, tonight they just relax, hiding from everyone and letting the stress flow away.
They'll deal with it tomorrow.

College human au
Markus is a musician in Detroit, studying music there. By pure coincidence, he met Connor at a bar, who studies criminology and strives to become a detective.
They hit it off really well and it didn't take them long to start dating. Unfortunately, Connor had to move to New York City for a few years because there was no internship in Detroit, and this opportunity was too good to pass up. That does mean being away from Markus most of the time, and it sucks, but they make do.
Despite the daily calls and Connor traveling back every two weeks, they miss each other a lot, and Markus wishes the two years Connor will spend there are over already. He sees it in Connor, too. Although he seems happy in New York and can handle himself fine, he knows how much he misses Detroit, his family, his friends and Markus.
One day, when Markus is missing Connor more than usual, he picks up his guitar and starts playing, the words following automatically. A few days later, when he's video calling Connor from his laptop and gets to see that beautiful smile, he tells him he has a surprise. Connor tries to not show his excitement as Markus gets his guitar but fails horribly and can't stop smiling.
Markus glances up to the camera one last time before his fingers glide over the strings and he starts to sing.
“Hey there Connor, what's it like in New York City?”

Hungergames Mockinjay au
They were supposed to get Connor out.
That was the deal they'd made; this time, Connor would be the one to survive.
So why is Markus here, in District 13, acting like a piece of war propaganda while Connor is held captive in the Capitol?
It's a question that's haunted Markus for as long as he's been here, but it's the thoughts of what could be happening to Connor that's keeping him up at night. It's only gotten worse after Connor appeared on television that first time, talking about how this war is bad and how they need to stop, spitting out Captial propaganda that the Connor Markus knew would never believe in.
It's worse, this time. Markus can't do anything but stand there and watch as Connor's face shows up on the large screen for the whole of Panem to see, his eyes bright and scared, his bruises showing through the powder on his face. The words don't quite register to Markus, it's the same bullshit he's heard before. He's not listening, only looking at Connor, at the bags under his eyes and the desperation hidden in the brown's Markus knows so well.
Suddenly, the image glitches and Connor's face disappears. Instead, footage of Markus shows up, of him walking in the remains of District 12 while his song is playing in the background.
“Are you, are you, coming to the tree?”
Connor's face is back on screen now, he stopped his little speech and seems shocked, whispering Markus's name. Markus steps closer to the screen, tears welling in his eyes as Connor throws a lost look at the camera. He leans forward, his voice shaking as he speaks.
“Think about it, how will this end? What will be left? No one can survive this, no one is safe now,” His voice speeds up as he continues, desperate to get the words out. “Not here in the Capitol, not in any of the Districts.” He stops, his lips shaking as he tries to find the words. For a moment, his eyes harden and Markus feels as if Connor's looking directly at him.
“They're coming Markus, they're gonna kill everyone in District 13, you'll be dead by morin-”
The screen cuts to black but not before Markus gets to see how a fist slams into Connor's face. Around him commotion breaks loose but he can't bring himself to move, can only keep staring at the screen where Connor was looking at him only seconds ago. What have you done?
Someone grabs his arm as an alarm goes off, and Markus forces himself to move, to run with the rest as they get to safety thanks to Connor's warning.
They barely make it to the bunker because of that stupid cat, and as the doors close and they're covered in darkness, Markus lets the desperation and grief for Connor consume him, knowing that there's nothing he can do to help him.
(Where a dead man calls out, for his love to flee.)

Fashion
For a long time, the only person Connor interacts with is Hank. That means that when he is finally free and alive, the only example of how to live is coming from Hank. So, needless to say, Connor's fashion style is... well, awful.
Markus has a hard time handling the Hawaiian shirts and the terrible color patterns, but at first he is able to ignore it, as the only times he sees Connor are at work, where is he wearing suits.
However, when they start to spend more time together and especially when they start dating, Markus just can't put up with it anymore. He doesn't want to hurt Connor's feelings though, and has to plan.
So, he tries to give him presents at first. Just some simple clothes that he thinks will look good on Connor. When asked why, he responds with ‘because I love you.’ Unfortunately, Connor takes this the wrong way and starts giving Markus presents as well and Markus can't not wear what Connor gives him, because that would be rude. North's laughter about his outfit still rings in his ears, and he quickly abandons this plan.
He doesn't really know what to do, but one day when they roll out of bed in the morning of their day off, Connor realizes he only has his suit with him. Markus offers him some of his clothes to wear for the day, and Connor seems to love it. Markus tells him not to worry about returning them soon, there's no hurry in it.
A few days later, Markus notices that Connor is wearing his shirt again and seems to love it. Not to mention that watching him wear Markus’ clothes is the best feeling in the world.
Markus starts giving him more clothes of his own after that, although he makes sure Connor never thinks of them as presents. He also pretends not to notice Connor never returning any of the clothes. He does miss his hoodies, but they're a worthy sacrifice for a good cause.
(Connor smiles every time he sees Markus glance at his clothing, and wonders when his boyfriend will notice that he's very much aware of what he's trying to do. Maybe, Connor thinks, this is ever funnier than trying getting reactions out of Markus with ridiculous outfits. He wonders if Markus ever noticed he was just doing it to get a reaction out of him. Maybe one day he'll tell him.
In the meantime, he'll just be having fun stealing clothes and laughing about it with North. And if he falls asleep in oversized hoodies that smell like Markus, well, that's just a win-win.)

Lifeguard au
Connor is a city boy in all meaning of the word, and he barely leaves Detroit. So, when he's on vacation and visits the beach, he really wants to get into the blue ocean. Unfortunately, Connor has no idea what he's doing, and one moment he seems fine, but the next the beach seems awfully far away.
Life guard Markus gets the call from the tower about a swimmer in trouble, and is quick to hop on his board and rush to the rescue.
Connor doesn't know if his legs feel weak because of exhaustion or because of the insanely hot life guard, but he's glad to be out of the water and able to stand.
------------
Markus doesn’t have a habit of sticking around with people after he makes sure they're fine, but since nothing is coming in through his radio, he is more than happy to talk to the cute stranger for a while. (He'll later tell his colleges that he was just making sure Connor was alright,)
When Connor gathers enough courage to ask Markus out for coffee as a thank you for saving his life, Markus is more than happy to say yes.

Vampire/hunter au
Vampire/hunter au  part 1
Connor knows he shouldn't have gone out on his own, but he has survived worse. One vampire causing trouble isn't out of his skillset. Far from it, actually.
But he should have known. He should have been better, but ever since he started dating Markus he just- wasn't the same. He couldn't think of every vampire as evil anymore, not since he saw so much humanity in Markus. Maybe that's what made him hesitate this time, or maybe it's because he's wearing less protection, or maybe-
He knows he's doomed the second it happens.
The vampire is fast; he dodges Connor's stake with ease and slaps it to the ground. This wouldn't be a problem as his second stake is already in his hand, but the vampire is faster, and he sinks his teeth into Connor's neck.
Connor is used to this, he is, but he's also gotten used to Markus’ gentle teeth, of this action causing barely any pain and just filling him with a form of connection that humans can never achieve. This, however, this hurts, and Connor screams as the blood is drawn from his neck. He can't move, the vampire presses him against a wall holding him with a crushing grip on his shoulders. Eventually, Connor manages to recover and raises his stake, stabbing the vampire in the side.
It's not enough to kill him, but he releases Connor. The hunter ignores the pain and rushes to grab his first stake. He turns around just in time to get the vampire in the heart, and he lets himself fall to the floor as the vampire turns to ashes.
He has to move, Connor knows that, but everything hurts and he's dizzy. How much blood did he lose? Still, he gets up and stumbles away, trying to get to his car where he can take care of his wounds.
He hopes he can get there before Markus shows up, the last thing he wants to do is make him worry.
Vampire/hunter AU part 2
Markus knows where he is, he told him to wait, but Connor has always been so damn stubborn, so now he's running, faster than any car can go, trying to get there in time. He knows Connor is capable of defending himself, but the feeling that something went horribly wrong won't leave him.
He arrives on the scene, Connor's car standing empty and alone, and the overwhelming scent of blood fills his nose. It's too familiar, and Markus rushes towards it, yelling in horror as he spots Connor on the floor.
The hunter is gasping, pale as a ghost as he holds one hand against his neck. Red blood spills from beneath his fingers, and Markus's fangs ache at the sight. He controls himself, however, and slides his arms underneath the hunter, shushing him as he tries to determine how bad it is.
It's bad, he decides, and bites in his own wrist, ready to give Connor his blood so he can heal. Two brown eyes filled with pain and fear stare up at him, and Connor shakes his head, grimacing in pain as he does so.
Markus knows Connor doesn't want it, he knows that Connor is terrified of turning, of becoming what he was trained to terminate. But he's bleeding out and Markus can hear his heartbeat slow, can feel the life slip out of him through his fingers, the heat of his blood a stark contrast against his cold hands. So, he makes a decision, hoping against all hopes that Connor can heal before he dies.
“I'm sorry,” Markus says. “But I'm not letting you die.”
He presses his bleeding wrist against Connor's lips, the hunter too weak to resist as the blood glides into his mouth. Markus removes his wrist again, holding Connor gently as he struggles to hold on to life, letting his bloody hand glide through his hair, fighting against tears.
Come on, he thinks, just heal, come on.
Connor's breathing becomes shallow, and his pleading eyes lose focus as he looks at Markus. There's nothing the vampire can do but hold him as his heart slows, as his body goes slack in his arms.
Markus squeezes his eyes shut as his tears roll free and bends forward until his forehead rest against Connor's. He can't hear his heartbeat anymore.
Eventually, Markus stands again, lifting the dead weight of his lover's body in his arms. Despite the stillness of his body, his wound is healing and Markus knows what's happening.
He knows Connor doesn't want this, but Markus had to try. He couldn't let him die, even if he did anyway. Even if Connor hates him, even if he chooses to step into the sun the second he wakes, Markus doesn't regret his decision.
At least now, he gets to say goodbye.

Human au runaways
Connor has always been taught to strive perfection, because anything other than that is unacceptable. And he tried, he always tried so, so hard to be everything his mother wanted. But flaws are human and Connor couldn't be what others wanted. He felt like he was suffocating and would die if he stayed.
So one night, Connor packed a small bag and quietly left the house, not knowing where to go or what to do, but only needing to breathe.
Markus has been out for a while, backpacking across America in an attempt to make peace with his father's death. His days are simple; wake up, pack his stuff, travel, find a place to sleep and repeat. He likes it, it clears his mind.
One day he finds himself at a train station where a young man is apparently getting in trouble for not paying a train ticket. Markus doesn't know what's going on, but his father always taught him to be kind to others, and the look on the man's face makes him act without hesitation.
He pays for the ticket, learning that the other's name is Connor, and they have to go the same way. (Markus doesn't have to go anywhere, but he really wants to spend more time with this beautiful stranger.) They talk the whole road, and Markus learns that Connor is just like him; running from life for a while.
The decision to travel together is made quickly, and as the weeks pass by and Markus learns more and more about Connor, he can't help but fall in love.
When they finally return to the world, Markus invites Connor to stay with him, and the other man gladly accepts.
They share their first kiss on the front porch of Markus’ house while it rains. When they left they didn't know what they were looking for, but finding each other was more than they could've hoped for.
Suddenly, life doesn’t seem so daunting anymore.
