AITA for turning my friend group against each other, and beating one of them to death? Hear me out.

It all started when I joined the gang (I will not say what gang for privacy reasons). There was this one cowpoke named Arthur. (I will not change his name because he was the real asshole, and always coughed in peoples’ faces.) He pretended like he was the big man, and thought he was in charge of everything.

One day he told me he thought Dutch was an idiot, and I didn’t think so. I thought Dutch was an amazing leader.

Anyway, Arthur was the asshole because he ratted us out on a bank heist, and he said Dutch would never believe me if I told him. And when we was on that mountain, he admitted that he shot Ms. Grimshaw because he was jealous of me being Dutch’s favourite.

So, am I really the asshole?

I just finished watching Dickensian because I stumbled across Bill one day, and he looks like a live-action Ro. I’m obsessed.

Roland "Ro" Buckner immigrated to the United States in 1893. He was a mysterious one who spoke to nobody--but he really just didn't know any English.

Jack: I don’t think we ever really got over that…language barrier.

Ro: Nein, it’s—it’s not your fault.

Jack: What the hell! You speak English?

Ro: Of course I do.

Jack: You’ve spoke English the whole time I’ve been here!?

Ro: … *shrugs*

Headcanon:

Jack wasn’t nicknamed “Jack the Lad” for his attitude. He was nicknamed after Jack Spry (so close to Frye, right!?) from the 1868 play “Jack’s the Lad; or, The Pride of the Ocean.”

You know, someone probably has said this, but looking at this scene and playing this level drives home the fact that as much as Jack loathed Jacob, he also desperately tries to imitate him as well.

Jack is as much Jacob's foil as he is Evie's; he's the worst part of Jacob, albeit more twisted. He has the cocky attitude and self-centered righteousness that Jacob exhibits throughout the game as a young man, convinced of his just cause and heedless of the chaos and pain that occurs in his wake, so long as his mission, his "liberation" of London is completed.

Of course, Jacob is far more empathetic and caring, as shown when he refuses to follow Roth's intended murder of children. Jack lacks this empathy and moral compass, but nevertheless still tries to emulate his mentor: the manner of dress, the top hat, taking control of London via bloodshed and a gang. He's the worst parts of Jacob left to fester, and that makes him Evie's foil; in fact, given that Jacob treated him as a son and even took him to India where seemingly both he and Evie had a hand in his fear training, he is practically her kin and makes the entire situation all the more tragic.
