There's a lot of fake, simulated and junk healing crystals and stones flooding the market, it's important to educate yourself when buying them in person and especially online. There are a few websites that provide helpful information on fake crystals and one of them is http://www.the-vug.com/vug/vugfakes.html, there are also sites by Rockhounds that educate people on crystals. Things to look for when buying crystals/stones: Where is it from Is it dyed (If it is that doesn't mean it's fake and to my knowledge dying a crystal or stone does not change its metaphysical properties) Check for air bubbles (air bubbles is usually a sign that it's glass and not a crystal) Run quartz over print on paper to see if it magnifies and if it does then it's most likely not real Natural crystals/stones are not perfect looking they do have flaws Check for paint or glue underneath Natural Crystals and Stones found in nature; develop naturally over time with no intervention; natural crystals have flaws, the colors may be faded and/or have flakes in it; can change in appearance by changing colors, fading and developing fractures or veins due their energy exchange with you; some are found in certain locations (example: Rose Quartz can change color while Clear Quartz becomes cloudy over time) Imitation aka Fake Crystals made out of glass, painted rocks, plastic, resin and or other materials that are not the natural rock; they don't have the healing properties of the crystal/stone they are imitating Synthetic they are created in labs but have the same chemical, physical and visual properties of the natural stone; made with the same materials but in a reduced amount of time; they aren't natural What to know about some typical crystals/stones Amethyst can be burned and sold as citrine Dyed Magnesite is passed off as genuine Turquoise Ceramics are passed off as Sunstone Ploymer clay is passed off as faux Malachite #crystals #stones #healingcrystals #naturalcrystals #crystalenergy #crystalhealer #crystalmagic #crystalpower #crystallover #crystalgems #crystalhealing #citrine #amethyst #turquoise #sunstone #malachite #starseed #starseedwisdom #starseedawakening #metaphysician

Since Howlite is white with black veins it is most often dyed a turquoise color to make it resemble turquoise. Turquoise-dyed howlite is sometimes referred to as turquenite. Turquenite is a simulated stone, which is a stone that is made to look like another stone. In the case of turquenite, it may look like turquoise, but dying howlite a blue-green color does not magically turn it into turquoise, and so the stone will not have any of the healing properties associated with turquoise. Be careful not to buy imitation Turquoise. My suggestion is research who you buy crystals/stones from. I prefer to buy from a select few that get their crystals/stones from Rockhounds or Rockhounds themselves that can provide some history of the gem, these people are highly ethical because crystals/stones are their passion. One of my favorite online Rockhounds is @wolfootandbearpaw and I got this piece of dyed Howlite from them. They sale it as DYED Howlite and NOT Turquenite or Turquoise, they take the time to know their crystal sources.
