sometimes I forget that Final Victor was the first time Aventurine and Ratio met and I'm like...imagine you're Ratio and you pull up to work and your boss is like 'you're getting a new mission partner' and you're like ugh probably some average boring idiot, another person who will treat me like a cold and off-putting genius, I'd so much rather be by myself god damnit this is going to suck.
Then, in walks an unassuming little blond man who immediately whips out a gun, gives you bedroom eyes while he loads it in front of you, probably blushing and biting his lip and shit like a freak, puts it in your hand, presses it to his chest, intertwines his finger with yours around the trigger, stares you dead in the face, AND I QUOTE, "provocatively", and fires it. Three times. AND THEN HE PROBABLY JUST LEAVES BC IF YOU'RE GONNA PULL SOMETHING LIKE THAT YOU CANT JUST HANG AROUND FOR DRINKS AFTERWARDS YOU GOTTA FLEE AND KEEP UP THE MYSTERY, SO NOW YOU'RE JUST ALONE IN THE ROOM LEFT TO PROCESS WHAT JUST HAPPENED.
Like what do you even do after meeting someone like that ??? Well in Ratio's case I guess you fall in love but I can't even blame him, I wouldn't be able to stop thinking about him either, doc. I can literally picture Ratio in his fucking Ebenezer Scrooge nightcap and gown that same evening, lying awake in bed, staring up at the ceiling, looking so perturbed just thinking '.....who the hell was that?'
Ratio is probably so used to knowing everybody's next move since he's so smart, people are probably pretty predictable in his eyes. This might have been the first time the man has ever been truly flabbergasted by someone's sheer impulsivity. He met his very first wild card (which honestly just makes me so emo because they get to know each other so well and you know my mushy emo heart thinks nothing is more romantic than truly knowing someone)
Also Aven honey normal people show their new work partners they trust them by like...doing a trust fall or playing charades or buying them a hallmark card or something but forcing someone to shoot you also works I guess I mean you got the man whipped so what the hell do I know
#also hoyo can we pwetty pwease have final victor character skins#THEY LOOK SO HANDSOME like ik we cant really see ratio but cmon you just KNOW he looks good#honkai star rail#aventio#ratiorine#hsr#aventurine#hsr aventurine#dr ratio#verivasha

YOU COOKED UNBELIEVABLY HARD WITH THIS OP I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE THIS BUT YOU'RE RIGHT YOU'RE SO RIGHT
I think it is particularly interesting how Aventurine's relationships with Jade and Topaz were depicted in 2.3.
At the risk of inciting the wrath of Aventurine/Topaz shippers (I'm sorry, everyone can ship what they want; this particular ship just isn't for me!), their interactions were framed in a very familial manner, at least when Aventurine was involved.
Jade is clearly projecting herself as a mother figure for him, directly calling him "child," a "kid," and taking on a disciplinarian role such as in this scene, where she nabs both their room keys to stop them from whining at each other. On Jade's end, this is very deliberate--given what we know of her cornerstone ability, she can almost certainly see the void that Aventurine's mother's death left in his life, and she is intentionally acting in a maternal manner in order to ensure his compliance and respect. (Personally, I'm of the opinion that Aventurine is smart enough to clock this manipulation tactic, but also that he's going along with it because why not? He was going to be manipulated anyway, might as well get free mom out of it.)
Topaz, meanwhile, definitely feels like she's being cast in the "annoyed sibling" role, particularly in this scene where they squabble so much the Trailblazer can't get a word in edgewise and Jade has to step in as the parent figure to correct their behavior.
Although the relationship is clearly different than the kind and supportive one we saw between young Kakavasha and his older sister, the "siblings fighting over a toy" and "sister irritated by bratty brother" vibe (I am such a sister myself, I feel this dynamic in my bones) was out in full force in 2.3, creating a very strong parallel to the missing sister figure in Aventurine's life.
I just think it is particularly interesting that the hole in Aventurine's heart was created primarily by the loss of his mother and sister--and then 2.3 suggests echoes of those exact roles being filled by other women who have stepped into his female relatives' places.
Given her maneuvering to fill the mother role on purpose, I have to wonder if Jade didn't also have something to do with Aventurine's connection to Topaz (clearly another favorite of Jade's). Did she help to cultivate this friendship and sibling-esque rivalry between them on purpose, with an end goal in mind?
It seems to me that it would be much more difficult for Aventurine to cut ties with the IPC if the Stonehearts were providing him with not only wealth and power but also a simulacrum of the very family he wanted to die to meet again...
Just sayin'.

People will be like “you’re mischaracterizing Reo” meanwhile I’m just pointing out that BPD coded characters can actually have positive personality traits and they are not the root cause of every problem
Like y'all are seriously telling on yourselves when your “analysis” of a bpd coded character is just calling them a crazy obsessive brat 💀

Those YouTube gamers pmo playing through penacony going “why did aventurine fight so hard to stay alive if he wants to die this badly” well it’s almost like that’s literally the irony of his character 💀😭 because he DID fight hard he couldn’t relax for a single moment of his life, he survived poverty, genocide, and slavery for nearly 20 years before he finally got into the IPC. But the irony is now that he can just theoretically sit back and enjoy his life after fighting tooth and nail, he doesn’t WANT his life anymore. The guilt of all the people he’s killed to stay alive, the guilt of being “lucky” and subsequently damning everyone around him (his thoughts not mine), the guilt of not being able to save the Avgins, the guilt of destroying peoples lives now that he’s in the IPC, the guilt of turning into someone he hates, all of that just intensifies every day because after everything he went through and all the people he screwed to get where he is, he’s not happy. One of my favorite quotes in the game is from the night he got his stone:
“The aventurine, that symbol of power and of the future, is about to be officially handed to him — Yet it would have no more allure or value in his eyes as soon he obtains it, even though he had sought it by putting his life on the line.
He returns to his office in a daze. The aventurine stone emits a peculiar glow on his desk, seemingly congratulating and mocking him at the same time."
thats all thanks for listening <3

i really liked your reo analysis it does give me more self-awareness as a guy who is just like nagi (i know this isn't a positive thing im aware of it people just keep pointing that i sound exactly like him)
i can't wait for your part 2 n i have a feeling your nagi analysis is gonna make me. yknow. i don't yet though
I'm so glad you liked it- thank you for taking the time to read such a long essay !! And I feel that so hard haha, being just like Reo isn't necessarily a positive thing, either (⋟﹏⋞)
I'll try to be as objective and analytical as possible during my Nagi analysis, because I really do love him- I just get frustrated with the fandom's tendency to dogpile Reo lol but I think the both of them mean well + care about one another, they're just inexperienced with healthy relationships.
Anyways, ty again and stay tuned !! (>^-^)>

Topaz and Aventurine are the type of siblings where they absolutely cannot make eye contact when something funny happens in a serious situation bc if they do it’s OVER and it’s always Aventurine who starts it, Topaz will try so damn hard to be professional and keep it together but they’ll lock eyes and he’ll have that stupid look on his face and it’ll be over
I saw this tiktok of this mom trying to pray before dinner and her two grown kids are laughing so hard they have their whole faces in their napkins smacking each other with the bread basket and I’m like this is unbelievably Topaz and Aven coded Jade boutta have their asses rolling pennies for the next month as punishment 😭💀
