What do you think of Kim and Ron’s relationship on Kim possible? Do you think it was a well developed couple?

honestly...... yes I do. they’re one of those couples where the development started in season 1

kimron is cute friends-to-lovers (and main m/f) so I understand it’s not everyone’s thing but, my main standard for endgame romances is this post, and they check the boxes that makes romance like that work. It’s the most emotionally intense relationship for both characters, the story is about this connection, and Kim thinks about Ron more than any of her other relationships. that was three seasons before they finally kissed so the groundwork is solid

I’ve had problems if the romance is too unbalanced (esp for the girl character), but they’re both equally invested and their priorities align. the point always came back to the balance they made together. I also like how much they fought like huge babies (again.. the equality.. just adorable) like those eps that are just them disagreeing on how to approach a problem, and learning from each other, like that’s what character writing is for and it works!!

and really the imperfect friendship is what makes them so delightful. like the friendship was Relentless, but how unglamorous or uncool it could be is part of what makes the romance extra enticing! the Shared Weirdness... the comfort and security in a relationship where “I could only act this way around you” is the recurring truth. and all the “we must never speak of this again” moments.. all the “you’re always good enough for me” moments

after all that idk what else but romance it could’ve been. them getting together was one of the most satisfying pay-offs to my disney channel career. (drakgo was an unexpected plus that made my life.) plus I’m sentimental, I always go for the idea that the strong female character DOES need someone, and they WILL know each other better than anyone, and they WILL be shy and cute about it!!!!!!

How do you picture Kim and Ron’s college years?

hm idk if I have ANYTHING..!!! I was just very enchanted by the semi-recent drawing one of the artists did, of kim in her 20s, then his daughter revised the fashion. i am open to being hit up with the good college headcanons (and/or fic recs) from wiser fans tho

honestly i love the Moms and Dads in cartoons now, bc i'm old, so i'd rlly love a look into mom-dad kim ron.. i wanna see their domestic couple routine and the behbehs 🥺 and seeing how similar, and hopefully different, they are from their own parent dynamics.. i guess i just like parent content slkdjf

You know what they should explore in the new episodes. Why Josh broke up with Kim and why Zita broke up with Ron? I mean Kim wasn’t that broken up about it and neither was Ron. Josh began dating Tara and afterwards hasn’t appeared since not even as a cameo. Zita was in 2 episodes tops and we only get to see her again in the graduation finale appearing to date Felix. I really want to know how it went down with those relationships. Also I picture the Team Go! prequel as a light hearted jab at edgie 90s action cartoons.

I found Josh's removal from relevance in the movie jarring as a kid, just bc i wanted continuity and closure!! it might be too late for a "here's why kim and josh don't work out" ep, like it retreads too much old ground?? but while we’re imagining, now you got me thinking it could be, like... adults randomly meeting up again, and it prompts to reminisce and appreciate. maybe touch again on the ron/josh beef lmaoo, like the one-sided rivalry continues into dad-hood and they’re in the same PTA 😭 oh i miss petty ron

thru hindsight i see the josh thing makes sense, in an irl way, like sometimes you like a person but it fizzles out. he clearly wasn’t devotedly pursuing her even while liking her. but i relate, i love Content (tm)

i was also in love with zita as a kid so it'd be the biggest pandering-to-me-personally kp could do by bringing her back and i am Here For It

How to change your mood while honoring your feelings

So this is a pretty complicated subject, but here are the basics

Don’t judge yourself for having emotions. Remind yourself it’s ok to feel whatever you are feeling. It doesn’t make you broken or a bad person, and there is nothing to be guilty or ashamed of. Try to just accept the emotion without being sad or angry that you are experiencing it

Assess the situation. The first step is to identify what emotions you are feeling. (This may be help if you are stuck). The second is to figure out what thoughts or events (if any) triggered it. For example you might feel angry because you were treated poorly, or sad because you were thinking about all the ways you believe you have failed. Worksheets such as this one may help you with this and the following steps

Make a plan to address any issues now, or if the emotions are too intense, make a point to come back to this later. For example, if you are stressed about the amount of work you have due, your action could be to make a plan for what work to do each day, email your professor about an extension, and to identify and challenge the assumption that turning in a project late makes you a failure. DBT & CBT tools can help you identify and work through the process of doing this

Do something sensory. Focusing on your senses can be a very effective way to get out of your head, and allow your emotions to fade naturally. You could simply observe what’s around you (such as listing things you can see or hear), or you could create a pleasant experience by putting on a favorite song, using scents you enjoy, doing something with your hands, or some combination of these things. 

Remind yourself of things you have a positive association with You could remind yourself of a favorite memory, think of something you are grateful for today, read a message from a loved one, look at a photograph that you like, or imagine you are in your favorite place. Make sure you aren’t doing this to force yourself not the feel the emotion, but rather focusing your attention on something pleasant and being open to however your emotions change. It is important you follow steps 2 & 3 if you choose to go this route. However, if you are facing a thought you have all the time and you have already worked through those steps in a similar situation you may be able to go straight here.

Do you see Kim Possible getting darker and edgier storylines if and when the gets new episodes made? Same for the prequel series starring Shego and her Team Go! years?

it depends on a few things! the live action was an opportunity to go darker (like Riverdale/Sabrina/Winx) but instead they chose to keep it light and child-appropriate ala Teen Beach and HSM. so that leads me to think the same of any future KP projects. plus if it has the same exec producers, those guys always seem to go comedy.

if the cartoon got a sequel series, it's possible they'd go for a mature tone if they wanted the show to age up with its audience. and by ‘mature,’ i mean Frozen 2 trying to be slightly more grown-up than Frozen 1! but even then, idk how much more mature they'd go. a new series would likely air on Disney+, and my impression of Disney+ is they're not looking for anything too dark

for what it's worth, i think KP already has gone Darker and Edgier by its own standards--So the Drama had high stakes about LOVE and the WORLD and they advertised the movie with a KISS. it seemed grown-up from a teen pov, and i think that (and the finale) is the darkest KP will ever go. and that’s ok, i think ‘goofy’ and ‘cheeky’ belongs in KP’s tone even if high-emotion stakes are always nice

if we fantasized about an adult cartoon set in the kim possible universe, i'd want to still prioritize the stylish mid-century homages, and it wouldn’t be lower-brow than kp but maybe we could see some intriguing things w/o a constant need for comic relief 👀 and YES to a spinoff exploring Shego’s life!! any part of it!! ;;

I guess that’s on the writers for making season 4 the way it is. They planned the movie to be the finale but they ended up getting renewed for season four. They had to keep Ron consistently flawed in order to make new episodes. Of course they didn’t keep in mind consistent character development or bothered to delve deeper into their relationship other then “popular girl choose geek boy and boy feels he needs to keep proving himself” for the season. You get why Fight for Five is a thing and why Fight for Four isn’t enough for fans. Also I did not care at all for Homecoming Upset and should have showed us Ron and Kim being crowned Prom King and Queen at their respective dances.

(there’s now a ‘kp critical’ tag for anyone wanted to avoid the conversation) yep my beef is usually with writers sdklfjs. and there’s still a lot of heart and kp flavor to those eps! it’s sadly just true that some male writers struggle to see a romance from the girl's perspective.. for a myriad of reasons. kim isn’t turned into a prize, but she’s playing the Sensible role usually given to female love interests. which isn’t even ooc by any means! she was always an eye-roller at shenanigans. it just comes down to balance.

i’m on a tangent, but i also wonder if they thought that too much romantic pov would weaken her character--which is someth cartoon writers are still doing today. (poppy in trolls 2, anna in frozen--we don’t get as much focus on her feelings for her man, even tho she’s supposed to be in love, and it feels like they believe it’s more “girl power” if she doesn’t think about being in love as much. then they run into the same issue where the romantic pov then feels unbalanced)

kim and ron have the benefit of s1-3 showing both sides of their relationship, and we see how kim loves him (the photo album christmas present comes to mind ;;) long before the romance angle became more pressing. also to season 4′s credit, i didn’t see a lot of cartoons at the time explore a new status quo after the happy ever after kiss!! idk, maybe they floundered bc it was lowkey new territory??

for homecoming, i always found it profoundly disturbing that bonnie and ron would ever kiss. BUT i lowkey loved kim not getting to be prom queen bc i live for the drama :( even tho it makes NO sense that she'd save the world AND wear that dress and still not get chosen!!!! the high school takes her for granted smh

About the live action, I really loved how Kim was portrayed, they give the focus to her and they explored her flaws and feelings and I liked how Sadie portrayed her character, I do agree that they smoothed Ron quiet a bit, although I get that it was because he wasn’t the focus of the movie (he seemed more like a side character tbh) although I liked how the actor portrayed him, it was very spot on

yeah!! i agree completely. nothing but love for the casting. 😭 they were all spot-on, i got the impression they might have studied the original characters’ inflections or something before inventing their own take. and kim was darling--very different in some ways, but i felt what she went thru in the movie was true to something that’d happen on the show

I agree with almost everything you said about your Kim possible post (Kim is an amazing character and it sucked she didn’t get focus on the last season) although the way you said that “Ron betrayed Kim on the last season” is very interesting!

I love Ron, but I will admit something about how his character was portrayed in season 4 was a little off And I wish they have had explored his and Kim’s character in knew ways without the whole “insecure lobe interest” plot line.

I do have to say that a character having flaws or expressing insecurity isn’t what I would saw “betraying a character” cause it’s important to express and communicate this includes our problems ans shortcomings

oh absolutely!!! looking back I didn’t explain that part 😬 you’re right--I don't think he betrayed her by being insecure or having trust issues. I was thinking more of the “love ray” episode, and times when Ron lied or went behind her back (stealing the suit i believe??) just bc he wouldn't listen to her when she tried to help him at the start.

ALSO--there's plenty of times in s1-3 when they didn’t listen to or lied to each other so it's not as big a deal as i'm making it out to be sdlkfjs i just had THOUGHTS. but i don’t want to overcorrect or oversimplify, and suggest that having flaws/being insecure isn’t true to him or his relationship to kim, bc that’s not right either!

the truer point, if I were to revise the og post, is a good season takes the time to focus on both of their strengths/insecurities, back and forth between eps. and not just all of one thing or character
