i'm still alive!!

Hey everyone! Life has been testing me in ways i never even knew existed so I won't be writing for awhile (probably till October). To be it visually, life snuck up the corners and hit me over the head with a barbed baseball bat.

Nevertheless I'll be writing drafts in my downtime so hopefully i'll be able to update by October! I'll post snippets and pieces of my wips if I can.

Chapter 1: Paper rings

Come on up. This time, I want you to come to me.

The ride up the elevator is nerve wracking, heartbeat pulsing so fast in her throat that she wouldn’t be surprised if she was all flushed and disheveled by the time she got up there. Yeonwoo glances at the elevator mirror and combs her hair down with her fingers for a quick fix. She still looks a little wide-eyed, and she isn’t sure where she’s jittery all over - it’s not her first date with Euntae, after all. But he’d always made her feel that way, gentle butterflies all over, and something tells her that it’s never going to stop.

She fumbles with the room card when she finally gets there, struggling one too many times before the door finally gives, revealing a warmly lit space decorated with delicate flowers and fairy lights. In the middle of it all stands Euntae, dark hair loosely slicked back and dressed in a navy blue suit that she knows is brand new. His head snaps up to meet hers, much like an excited puppy, and suddenly that ticklish feeling in Yeonwoo’s stomach blossoms into an overwhelming warmth.

“Yeonwoo,” Euntae smiles - goodness his eyes are like the stars, and Yeonwoo has to tamp down the urge to kiss him right then and there. “You’re here.”

*** Euntae stares at Yeonwoo, mind going blank. Her hair is slightly disheveled, lips parted in surprise as she takes everything in, so utterly beautiful that all he could do is call out her name. For a moment he has to remind himself to breathe, that everything will turn out fine, just like it always has with Yeonwoo, but oh, what if-

He gets down on one knee, hands trembling as he reaches for his pocket. He’d consulted with his brother-in-law before this, because surely a man who managed to marry his notoriously picky sister would know how to pull off a perfect marriage proposal? But all the older man had done was laugh and clapped him on the back, like he had just told him a funny joke.

“Well,” His brother-in-law had asked in between chuckles, “How much do you love her?”

“A lot,” He said. That was a no-brainer question. “More than myself.”

His brother-in-law blinked, perhaps taken aback by his honesty. Then he turned to look at his wife - Euntae’s ever-fussy sister who was busying herself with the dirty dishes - and smiled, though more to himself than to anyone else.

“A perfect proposal would be impossible, then.” He said, “Good luck.”

Euntae understands now. His fingers tremble around the velvet box, heart thumping so loud in his chest he’s positive that Yeonwoo could hear it. It’s a miracle he even manages to open the box without dropping to the floor.

Yeonwoo lets out a near-silent gasp. Euntae musters the courage to look her straight in the eye.

“Ha Yeonwoo,” His voice comes out steady, but his lips are already drying out at the edges, “Will you marry me?”

He’s not one to fall fast, and definitely never the one to fall first. But when he sees Yeonwoo in-person at the cafe for the first time, as vibrant and sunny as her photos, he just can’t seem to look away.

“Oh, do you want me to pass the sugar?” Yeonwoo says, when she notices him staring. He’d been looking at her, trying to figure out whether it’s his delusions or the sunlight from the windows that’s giving her face a soft, ethereal glow. He forces a polite smile when everyone’s attention turns to him.

“Ah, yes please.” He manages, hoping the sudden warmth he feels isn’t showing on his face. He's not a hormonal teenager. Not anymore. “Thanks.”

Yeonwoo’s hand brushes against his to hand him the sugar. His heartbeat accelerates.

When he sips on his Americano - because Americanos always make good first impressions - the sweetness lingers on his lips, and he stills.

Ah, he thinks, it’s a different kind of sweet.

Maybe he’d graduated from high school too quickly, after all.
