Class 6.1
Today in class I finished refining the animation to hand it in by tomorrow. I changed the background of the yellow section to orange and made the hills slope down into the horizon line. I also changed the body copy font in the final frame to Aktiv Grotesque as well as moving the Bats logo to the top right corner of the image. I also moved the title ‘Modes of Colour’ to below the body copy.

Class 5.2
Today in class I refine the final frame for the animation. I changed the font and body copy to better reflect the typographic style of our poster concepts. I initially used a light font but found it to be ineffective when viewed on a small screen. Above you can see that iteration as well as two iterations using bold copy and one that also incorporates a rule.

Class 5.1 Interim Presentation
This is the motion graphic as it stands at the interim presentation. I recorded the sounds by tapping my finger nails, moving paper around, whistling and making sounds. I recorded it on a Yeti Blue USB microphone. You can see the new texture added in the background of the yellow section and the info at the end as well.

Class 4.2
I continues to work on the motion graphic in this class and scanned in a new texture for the yellow background. I also started to design the end frame for the animation.

Class 4.1 - Animation Progress
In class 4.1 Aleisha and I examined our output from working over the weekend. This is the animation so far. I have yet to finish the sequence laid out in our story board. The animation also needs a foley sound track which i will begin on after the sequence is finished.

Class 3.2
In class 3.2 Aleisha and I finalized our story board for our animation. We decided that I would focus on the animation while Aleisha would start on the poster and web design. I began to cut out paper by hand; trying to synthesize the emotive qualities of the song into a visual output. The paper cut outs above represent the energy of Warren Maxwell’s song ‘Te Oranga’.

Class 3.1 - Little Things Background Animation
Today I worked on shape simplification from my animatic to to my first animation on after effects. This animation is designed to be the background setting for our animation based on the song ‘Little Things’. It was created using scanned coloured paper that I made into a stop motion graphic.

Class 2.2
Today in class I made an animatic that describes the mood and narrative of the animation I intend to make for Little Things. The animation focuses on the small moment of a bird collecting a stick for it’s nest and then laying it’s eggs. The tenderness of this moment matched the lullaby-like sound of the song ‘Little Things’.

Class 2.1
In class 2.1 we made a mood board based on our initial name for the production, ‘An indulgence of Colour’. In my group we focused on geometric shapes, block colours, paper cut-outs and linear movement.
We also discussed story boarding techniques as a class for our motion graphic output and looked at a few examples.

Class 1.2
In class we sketched along to Warren Maxwell’s five songs. Above you can see my sketches for ‘Nature of Man’ and ‘Peaceful Man’. In class we focused on creative brainstorming based on Maxwell’s lyrics. There was a focus on originality and flexibility when it comes to rapid ideation.

Koha - Class 1.1
In class we used the play ‘Romeo and Juliet’ as a basis for creating two promotional posters. The first is a traditional take on the play and the second is based on the genre of science-fiction. I worked with a partner and found that the short time constraints pushed us to creative concepts that have clarity of meaning.

Reflection
Throughout Ihi Wehi I developed my skills in rapid ideation and improved my research skills. I also pushed the boundaries of what I am comfortable with by experimenting with various different visual styles.
In this paper I struggled with composition of my image and copy. I found that printing things off at a large size helped a lot with micro detailing in terms of composition and type. I also feel that I should have given myself more time for the final assembly and presentation of my posters because being in a rush caused me to make mistakes.
Overall I feel that I have improved my composition skills and my ability to think critically about my own work.

Week 6.1
To complete the micro-detailing for my final posters I altered the image colours in photo shop. I also fixed the typos in both posters as well as adding a call to action in my monochrome poster.

I experimented with more hand drawn posters that use the same copy as my red and black poster

Week 5.1
For class 5.1 I presented my digital collage of the abbey road concept as well as my hand drawn red and black poster (see weeks 4.1 and 4.2). I received good feedback on the immediacy of the hand-drawn poster.Based on this feedback I decided to use hand drawn posters as for my final hand-in.
