like does anyone else have different degrees of boredom, like mostly to do with fan content and fanfics and stuff? At first I’m gonna be like hanging out at the top of the iceberg, basking in the glorious light that is YouTube edits and fan animations, but then after a while I’m like nah I need I pain I need to jump in the water

so then I’m at tumblr, right, it’s easy it’s accessible all I gotta do is search a tag and then I’m at that tag and I’m like yum yum yum were I the daylight zone of the iceberg and shitt- but then AFTER a while I realise I have consumed everything on this tag in the past however long and I can’t find anything new fuck whatdoido

SO THEN we hurry off to ao3. Ao3 because y’know while there is some genuinely magnificent shit over there the ui is a dinosaur, like those crazy fricken fish that live down there in the twilight zone and haven’t evolved because they’re just chilling but MAN are those fish epic. What the fuck am I talking about. Anyways so I’m in ao3 now BUT I find that this isn’t what I need- (reading hurts. My brain-)

and now it’s getting darker, and we’re going deeper. I NEED MORE. Usually every time I wind up at this next place it’s almost always as fricken midnight, or past midnight. Every time I go to this place- the abyssal zone of my scrolling, it is dark. Real dark. This place is quotev. Mannnnnn you know I am bored when I am at quotev. I’ve been making surveys for my friends to complete for fun for years now- and am currently on my twelfth edition of this stupid survey I always do.

anyways, i asked em all a while ago if they’d be cool with me creating a public version of these surveys to get yall to do. You know. For sample size purposes. They agreed it’d be a cool idea I think it would be very fun- these surveys are fucking wild. I make them, I distribute them. It’s awesome. I black out while I write them and then I look back and think oh my god that’s sowoahhhh. And then doing them is a whole other experience. I am happy to give a snippet of a few of the questions I’ve asked and a few of the answers I’ve gotten if you ask nicely :)

Just so you know, the series of surveys are referred to as ‘The Survey that Summons ye Olde Gods of Chaos’, and has been since its genesis. I also occasionally use polls I see on here for inspiration, with credit of course when they are especially cool. We have yet to be successful in our summoning, but hopefully getting yall involved will lead to our success!

this is a question I’ve recently been wondering but have no way of confirming- back when we were all wearing masks back in Covid-times, a lot of us either wore those disoposable surgical masks, or handcrafted ones.

I imagine the surgical masks to have been effective, but were our hand crafted ones actually doing as well as the others? like, was the point just to cover the nose and mouth, or are the surgical masks also inbuilt other filtering systems that make it harder when worn correctly to contract disease? Were the fabric ones just an instance of people trying to customise something meant to protect us, and then in that process, we lost out on their ability to do that at least in part?

just to clarify-this is not hate piece on wearing masks, I am genuinely curious. Face masks saved a lot of lives and in all honesty, wouldn’t hurt to keep wearing them to protect yourself against lingering COVID and other diseases more generally.

Something that I think is really very quaint and fun and cool is whenever you encounter a second-hand book, read through it casually, and then stumble upon somebody's anonymous annotation from x years ago. When I encounter those its a very human moment. You realise you're not the first person to interact with this object! So you leave a little note of your own, just under it, on whatever topic they commented on in the same way people tend to do with markers on public bathroom walls. In both those scenarios - the annotating of the book and the writing on the bathroom wall - you know that it is damn near impossible the other person will read your reply, it's not like the internet, they won't get notified that they've got a response. Heck, it is plausible they aren't even alive anymore. But that doesn't deter you... you make the connection, the response anyways.

There isn't really a point to what I am trying to say here, more so just a musing about something that happens that I find uniquely interesting.

Basically: I think people should annotate their books more. fuck resale value or whatever. and then I think the next user should also annotate their book, and when it passes from their hands to the next, the next person should. I totally imagine this as something that could happen - that a person donates a book with a little note on the first page for the next person to respond to whatever annotations they've made.

like, by no means is a YouTube comment any more trustworthy as a source than a tumblr post BUT the fact that there is a source that predates the post (comment was made 4 years ago, post was made I think roughly 2 years ago) and contains more information to the story, including the exact city and the cost of the stall and the timeframe being 40-45 years ago (now 44-49 years ago, presumably), suggests the possibility of a source even predating the YouTube comment….

Idk what these are but I found them at the hardware store next to the chains. I have been wearing them almost every day for months. They were $4 for a pair.

Cannot more highly recommend the hardware store as a source of goth/punk accessories

I did a little oil pastel piece, never used this medium before (besides when I was like 8). If this comes by anyone who knows what they’re doing, if there are any tips you have I shall consider if I ever try again.

(I have learnt, through making this, that unlike pencils I can’t just leave them on the paper as I am working on it *glares at the angry red smudge in the top right corner*)

it will never not be absurd to me to look up like a really interesting geographical feature (like a waterfall or a natural bridge or just a mountain in an area) that happens to be in a national park and it be ‘Closed’ according to google. Like I get that they mean the *park* is closed so you can’t access the thing but like… it is still flabbergasting to think that the waterfall is closed. Guys, the lake is closed. The valley is closed. The fuck does that mean???
