I didn’t think entering my 30s would change me that much. I thought I would be that same 25-year-old making friends on the bus and bringing them home to meet my cat, whose favorite Austen character was Emma! She was funny and smart, and her love story was pretty straightforward. I loved the idea of being pined after! Not going to lie; I still kinda like that! However, I may have become a little more cynical, seen a little more life, and realised that the true great Austen heroin is Anne Elliot! Stoic, patient, and ever-evolving. She takes personal accountability, she’s selfless, and maybe just a little people pleasey; ultimately, her sacrifice pays off. She is closer to who I have become, and I find now I learn more from her story and Emma. I wonder what my Austen character of choice will be in my 40s.

Alternative Romances to read this Valentine’s Day!
Not a fan of the usual gooey romance? A little too cynical to suspend reality and fully immerse yourself into an Emily Henry / Ali Hazelwood world? Want something to make you believe in real love, like real-world, messy love? I got you!
I don’t think these books would ever be shelved as romance, but they both left me truly hopeful. I came away with the feeling that love is strong, durable, and real!
I realised that in the process of helping ourselves, we can and should lean on loved ones for support and grow within our relationships.
It doesn’t need to be pretty to be romantic!

My study sessions of late are more reading for fun and less reading for study than I’d like to admit but the cozy season is here

Different day, different book, same cord bag!
I just got this new Green sketch book for my birthday, the paper is that perfect weight that prevents seep through but isn’t so stiff that it’s uncomfortable to use.

08.09.2024 // day 199 // slow mornings, spring on campus.
just making my way through my literature review. someday i'll post a photo of my (illegible) notes. no promises though. writing continues to be difficult but i'm trying to not let it win over me and my procrastinating ass.
feel grounded, motivated and less exhausted. holding onto this energy for as long as i can.

Different day different bag, same problem. I want to carry more than I can, but I have to remember to limit myself to what I know I need and can comfortably carry on my shoulder for a few hours

Trying again to pack this mini bag with everything I’ll need for the day! It’s probably obvious where my prioritise lie!

I remember reading this book in high school and being incredibly affected by it. Over the last year I have been picking up books that I loved a decade ago and seeing how my interpretation may have changed. If I still have the same reactions to characters or if my perception of people and life has changed so dramatically that I no longer connect to these books at all! After this I want to re read Looking For Alaska, my favourite book when I was 16.

100 Page Review!
Chapter 1 opens up with a twisted version of "My Best Friends Wedding", an alternate ending where Julia Roberts gets her way and ruins my favourite rom com of all time! Friends to lovers isn't my vibe apparently.
I didn't have high hopes initially and I didn't think it would live up to Beach Read. However, 100 pages in and the tide has turned! I didn't immediatley warm to Miles (which is ironic if you've read the book) but I fell in love with the MC relationship. Emily Henry is so talented at creating believable obstacles and building relationships that feel and grow naturally. I can also appreciate a writer who doesn't leave us hanging and gets straight into the action! I can't wait to see how this all plays out!

Everything I try to cram into my mini fjallraven on a chilled day off. I’ve been really getting into my Filofax lately! Mostly because of Megan Rhiannon! I’ve been really enjoying my set up in there and will probably just maintain this one system for the rest of 2024.
