This amounts to around $219 billion in annual healthcare related expenses! - 🧠What can you do to help reduce your risk of developing heart disease? Here are several lifestyle factors, which you have direct control over and can play a huge role in the development of this disease: . 1️⃣Healthy Weight & Nutrition - A diet that meets your caloric needs (doesn’t surpass it) and includes a variety of fruits and vegetables of different colors (eat the rainbow) and lean meats is a good general guideline for most people. - 2️⃣Limit Alcohol Use - Excessive alcohol intake lead to approximately 95,000 deaths in the US. In general, females should aim to consume 1 alcoholic drink/day or less and males should strive for 2 drinks/day or less. - 3️⃣Physical Activity - Only 50% of US adults get the physical activity they need to prevent chronic disease and approximately 1 in 2 adults live with some type of chronic disease. We should all aim to get in 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise each week. This might sound like a lot, but it is only 30 minutes, 5 days per week.
