✧ micromoon magic ✧
Tumblr media
micromoons occur when the [full] moon is at its farthest point from earth (apogee), making it appear smaller than usual. because of its distance from the earth, the gravitational influence of a micromoon is less than usual, leading to a smaller variation of high and low oceanic tides.
in reference to magic:
because of its size, the micromoon can correspond to magical workings that involve narrowing in on a subject, which could be introspection, reflection, dedication, focus, etc.
its distance from earth, however, insinuates that it could have less influence on our emotions, moods, and other traits that are governed by the moon (ymmv) - for me, it presents the idea that if my mind isn't clouded with emotion that i'm able to more freely rely on logic to make decisions and take action.
micromoon correspondences:
reflection
introspection
productivity
focus
time management
oh, and if you're into pop culture magic - you can associate micromoons with sailor chibi moon!

Scottish Divination Practices
by autumn sierra
Tumblr media
The Frith
The Frith—translating to “to find”—is a divination charm practice used to gain insight into the future, specifically about missing people or predicting events. Traditionally performed on the first Monday of a quarter, the frithir (seer) would stand in a doorway at sunrise, cross their hands or fingers to represent the equal armed cross, and observe the landscape for omens found in birds, animals, or weather patterns.
The Ritual of the Frith
Traditionally performed on a solstice or equinox at a liminal time such as dusk or dawn. Frithers would often fast to heighten spiritual sensitivity, as well as use Saining water to bless themselves
Frithers would step past a threshold of the home or other significant place (crossroads, old well, etc) to stand with either foot on opposite sides, symbolizing standing between two worlds
Observed images, animals, environmental phenomena, etc were used to divine answers to questions or prophesy
Saining
Although the practice of saining is used to cleanse and bless primarily through the use of smoke, water, fire, etc, it can also be used as a method of divination. During the saining, the diviner would pay close attention to the movement of smoke and flames of burnt herbs—specifically Juniper, which is a traditional saining herb.
An Dà Shealladh (Second Sight)
An Dà Shealladh is a prophetic ability occurring through visions, and was often associated with Highland seers. Those with the ability were said to see spirits, wraiths, or omens of death and misfortune which would give them insight into future events. It was said to be hereditary, and some speculate that the ability may have unfortunately become dormant in the descendants of previous seers.
Hearth Divination
Once logs had been added to the fire of the home’s hearth and burned, diviners could read the behavior of the wood in response to the flames. Sparks and cracks had varying indications, as well as ashes which could be read similarly to how one reads tea leaves.
Mirror/Water Scrying
Water and mirror scrying are popular forms of divination in modern practice. Scrying with darkened, spiritually significant bodies of water (wells, lochs, lakes, bulláns, etc) was very effective for identifying shapes and visions within the water’s reflection (or lack thereof). In a similar way, darkened mirrors—or black mirrors—are use to mimic this effect. The keek-stane, most commonly known by its mention in Raymond Buckland’s Scottish Witchcraft & Magick, is something of a cousin to the black mirrors that are most popular today in that it uses a glass lens rather than a flat pane.
Creating a Keek-Stane
Find and obtain a glass lens, preferably one from an old clock or thermometer face, or one made specifically to be just that—a lens (frequently found in the scientific community)
Black out the lens using black paint on the convex side, careful to make the color as solid as possible without streaking or trapping dust. Be sure that the convex side is completely opaque with no light passing through
Place the lens convex-side down in a protective container of choice (Buckland specifies a box) with the proper materials to keep it in place and keep it from breaking
Oomancy
Egg divination, or oomancy, was a common form of folk divination often performed at Samhainn, Latha Bealltainn, or Hogmanay. It was mostly used to predict marriage, future events, or fortune. An egg would be cracked into a bowl of water, and then the diviner would interpret the shapes made by the egg whites.
Salt and Wax Divination
This method of divination is achieved by pouring salt or hot wax into water. The patterns and shapes created through this method would then be interpreted by the diviner. This method of divination was commonly used during Samhainn and Hogmanay.
Scapulomancy
Scapulomancy is a divination method in which seers would divine the future by interpreting the shoulder blades of animals (usually sheep). Cracks, dents, and other abnormalities in the bones would change the outcomes of the readings. Some would use fire to create the cracks necessary to read the bone, and others would read the natural bone as it was following its cleaning. Scapulomancy was used for predicting weather and harvests, guidance for battles, monitoring the well being of communities, and other fortune telling.
Stone and Fairy Mound Divination
Stones, Hagstones in particular, were believed to enhance An Dà Shealladh when peered through. Visiting fairy mounds at Samhainn and listening to the wind or the whispers of the fair folk and other spirits was another way to divine the future.

Goddess Studies: Amaterasu
Tumblr media
Amaterasu is the Shinto goddess of the sun and the highest deity in Japanese mythology. She is the supreme leader of the High Celestial Plain or Takamagahara and is the ancestor of the Japanese royal family*.* Her name translates roughly to “Shines from Heaven”; 天 meaning “heaven” and 照 meaning “shines”. Her full name is Amaterasu-ōmikami, which means “the great and glorious kami who illuminates from Heaven.”
Her main place of worship is the Grand Shrine of Ise, one of the main Shinto shrines in Japan. The original inner shrine was first constructed in 4 BCE and is still an active shrine today as well as a UNESCO heritage site. This shrine houses her sacred mirror, one of the Three Sacred Treasures of Japan. Every 20 years at this shrine a ritual called the Shikinen Sengu is performed, where the buildings of the shrine are destroyed, then rebuilt in the plot of land across from it’s original location. New offerings of food and clothing are made to the goddess at this time.
One of her most important festivals is the Kannamesai Festival, which takes place from October 15th-17th each year. This is a harvest festival where a ceremonial representation of the year’s rice crop is offered to Amaterasu to pray for continued health of the royal family and good rice crops to come. The ceremony ends with a kagura, which is a ritual performance of song and dance. She also has a festival in July and also in December near the winter solstice.
Legend says she was born from the left eye of her father Izanagi, one of the two primordial deities that created the Japanese islands. After a trip to the underworld to try and resurrect his deceased wife, Izanagi cleansed himself in the river Tachibana. Amaterasu was born when he cleansed his left eye, her brother Tsukuyomi the moon god when he cleansed his right eye, and Susanoo the storm god when he cleansed his nose.
Her light is essential to both the realm of the kami and the realm of the living. In another myth, Amaterasu hides in a mountain cave after being frightened by the havoc her brother, Susanoo the storm god, is wreaking in the celestial plain. This plunges the world into darkness and causes many natural disasters. The other gods band together to perform a dance in front of her cave, luring her out with uproarious laughter. When she emerges, light and peace are returned to the realms.

On The Elder Futhark Runes
Tumblr media
The Futhark Runes were created and used by the Germanic Tribes of northern Europe from between 1800 and 1000 years ago. The Elder Futhark is the older of the two alphabets and was used from about the 2nd to the 8th century, while the Younger Futhark was used a bit later around the 8th to the 12th centuries. There is also the Anglo-Saxon Futhorc, another variation that existed around 500-700 CE. This alphabet contains 33 runes instead of the standard 24.
Much of the Elder Futhark alphabet was believed to be influenced by the Romans and their Latin alphabet. This occurred during the “Migration Period,” a time which saw many Germanic tribes such as the Jutes, Goths, Saxons, and Angles migrate south to the former provinces of the Roman Empire. This created trade routes that caused their cultures to mingle before the eventual collapse of the Romans.
Though much of their origin remains unclear, historians believe this system evolved from Celtic and ancient Germanic runic systems. For example, we do not know the traditional names for the Elder Futhark alphabet. We do however have the names for the Younger Futhark, Ango-Saxon Futhorc, and Gothic alphabet to go on. Due to the similarity between these systems, historians have surmised that much of the ancient tradition was reflected and preserved in these later variations. The same goes for the pronunciation of these names. Linguists have reconstructed a Proto-Germanic language by applying the principles of linguistic change over time. This gives us some idea of how the runes would have been said at the time.
What is clear is that the runic system was and integral part of the Germanic people’s religion and culture. We see many examples of their use in magic, especially in protection spells and healing. Interestingly enough, the word “rune” can also mean “secret” or “mystery.” Some practices not only call the characters themselves runes, but also individual spells or incantations. Much of our knowledge of the magical use of runes comes from Rune Poems.
There are 24 runes in the Elder Futhark rune set, and these are divided into three groups called “aettir.” Each aettir has eight runes, and is connected to a Norse deity. The three aettir are Freyja’s Aett, Hagall’s Aett, and Tyr’s Aett. Each individual rune has a variety of meanings but encompasses one general concept or idea. The individual runes in each Aett often relates to the deity of the Aett they are in.
The mythological origin of the runes is described in the Havamal and the Poetic Edda. These poems describe Odin’s journey to the world tree Yggdrasil and the Well of Urd in search of wisdom. Odin hung from the branches of the tree for nine days and nine nights, watched by the Norns who guarded its secrets. Understanding that all knowledge requires sacrifice, Odin pierced himself with his spear. Seeing his determination and willingness to sacrifice, the Norns revealed to him the secrets of the runes. Odin brought his knowledge back from the tree and shared it with humanity, so they might also benefit from its magic.

Hi , I have been reading your series and it's very useful. You have great knowledge!!!! I wanted to ask about retrograde of planets and how it affects each house . I have two retrograde planets in my birth chart and I have been to many about how to handle this but no one gave clarification.
Thank you for your time and efforts
𝐀𝐒𝐊 𝐀𝐖𝐀𝐘! - 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞
Go back to Masterlist - TikTok (Matrix of Destiny) - YouTube (subliminals)
First of all, thank you for your kind words! <3 I am glad you find the series useful - it's genuinely my honor to share my astrological knowledge. The topic of retrograde planets is indeed fascinating and can be crucial in understanding your chart's deeper dynamics. Let's delve into it step by step.
Tumblr media
✽ Understanding Retrograde planets ✽
What is a Retrograde planet?
In astrology, the word retrograde describes a planet that appears to move backward in the sky from our perspective on Earth. Let me emphasize: the planet isn't actually moving backward - it's an optical illusion. This happens because Earth and the other planets are orbiting the Sun at different speeds.
Example: Imagine you are in a car driving past another car on the highway. For a moment, it can look like the other car is moving backward, even though it is still going forward. Retrograde motion is similar - it's just a shift in perspective.
Why is Retrograde important in astrology?
Astrologically, retrograde planets act differently than planets in their normal (direct) motion. Think of a planet in retrograde as if it is on a cosmic "pause" or "rewind" mode. Instead of moving full speed ahead, a planet's energy turns inward, slowing things down and encouraging reflection, revisiting, and rethinking areas of life it rules.
What does a Retrograde planet mean in your birth chart?
If a planet was retrograde at the time of your birth, its energy becomes more personal and internalized. You might experience the themes of that planet in a unique, non-traditional way, or they may require more effort to express outwardly. Retrograde planets in a birth chart often carry karmic lessons - indicating unfinished business or growth opportunities from past lives.
Tumblr media
Let's clear up some misconceptions about Retrogrades:
Retrograde isn't "bad" or unlucky: Many people fear retrogrades, thinking they bring chaos or misfortune. This is not true. Retrogrades are simply periods of reflection and adjustment. If you work with their energy, they can be incredibly transformative.
Retrograde doesn't cancel a planet's power: A Retrograde planet isn't weak or powerless. Instead, it works in a more internal or unconventional way. Often, retrograde planets can lead to deep self-discovery and mastery.
(Transit) Not all retrogrades affect you equally: Whether a retrograde will significantly impact your life depends on how it interacts with your personal birth chart. For instance, Mercury retrograde might not bother you unless it is touching important points in your chart.
--> Also, imagine you are planning a trip during Mercury Retrograde. People might warn you that everything will go wrong, but the truth is simpler: you may encounter delays or need to double-check details. If you take precautions - like confirming reservations or leaving extra time - you will likely have a smooth journey. Retrogrades ask us to pay attention and not rush!
Tumblr media
So, what does it mean when a planet is retrograde in a natal chart?
When a planet is retrograde in your natal chart, it represents a unique and deeply personal journey of growth, learning, and transformation. Its energy operates differently than that of a direct-moving planet. Instead of naturally flowing outward into the external world, the planet's influence turns inward, encouraging reflection, self-discovery, and refinement.
Think of a natal retrograde as a mentor who insists on deeper understanding and inner mastery. It is like being enrolled in an advanced course on the themes represented by that planet, often with karmic undertones.
The Essence of Natal Retrogrades:
Inward Energy: Retrograde planets in a natal chart encourage introspection. The energy of the planet doesn't express itself as straightforwardly as it would in a direct state. Instead, it becomes an internal process. This can make it seem "delayed" or "different" in outward expression.
Past-life Karma: Retrograde planets often signify unresolved lessens or unfinished business from past lives. The themes associated with the planet may feel familiar yet challenging, as if your soul has chosen to revisit these areas for growth and mastery.
Delayed development: Early in life, the energy of a retrograde planet may feel blocked or awkward. For instance, a retrograde Mercury might cause communication struggles, or a retrograde Saturn could bring insecurity about discipline and responsibility. However, as you mature and engage in self-reflection, the retrograde planet's gift often unfold in profound ways.
Non-traditional expressions: The way a retrograde planet expresses itself may not align with societal norms. This can make you feel "different" or out of sync with others in areas of life connected to the planet. For example, a retrograde Venus might mean unconventional ideas about love, beauty, or relationships.
Spiritual and personal growth: Retrograde planets are powerful tools for transformation. They encourage deeper understanding, pushing you to go beyond surface-level experiences. By working with their energy, you can unlock unique strengths and achieve lasting spiritual growth.

After many requests, I’ve made a rebloggable version of my ‘Weather Magic’ page. Here you will find heaps of resources to help you with weather/storm craft. If you’ve read some of my previous posts about weather magic you will notice some similarities - that is because this is a collection of every weather witching post that I’ve ever posted compiled into handy resources post.
Weather Magic
The term “weather magic” or “weather witching” has been used to mean anything from divination and forecasting of weather to actual control and manipulation of the weather itself. From calling up treacherous storms to destroy another’s crops or providing fair winds for those at sea, witches (and even those who do not consider themselves to be such) have always been involved with weather magic. When you consider that most forms of magic are based around an agricultural past, the ability to affect and predict the weather was considered an invaluable skill. After all, if your family’s livelihood depended on the success of your crops (or the ability to find water as it did in my family’s case), weather magic would be an extremely handy thing to know.
Why the url Storm Born Witch?
I am quite fortunate, as the gift for weather related magic comes easily to my family. For generations, the men in my family have been dowsers or water diviners. However, it wasn’t until after I displayed an aptitude to weather related magic that I was told about my family’s history with it. My grandfather was the last water diviner in the family and he died when I was very young so I was never taught how to divine for water. My grandmother was the one to teach me what little she knew about weather magic - the rest either occurred naturally or I picked up along the way.
Tumblr media
Calling Up A Wind - Whistling Up A Wind
This is the most common form of weather magic and has been practiced for hundreds of years. Depending on the pitch and tone of the whistle a witch can create a gentle breeze or a sharp gust of wind. Traditionally, if the skill of whistling up a wind does not come naturally to you the option of making a ‘wind whistle’ out of willow or alder wood is available.
Here in Australia, whistling up a wind is probably the most common form of magic I do. I honestly do not go a day without whistling up a cool breeze. It’s bloody hot here and sometimes a cool breeze is just what you need.

Storm Casting
Storm casting is the art of creating storms. There are many different methods to creating storms and bringing rain. The method used by my family is to fill a jug with water and while sitting outside (or facing a window) pour the water into a basin or bowl. Dip the tip of your pointer finger into the water and slowly make five clockwise circles in the water (if you have a pendant necklace this can be used instead - just above the water in the bowl). As you are making the circles call the wind to bring in a storm by blowing (or whistling a continuous low note - the sound of wind over the mouth of a glass bottle) over the water in the basin.

Ways to Stop a Storm (Dispersing, Binding & Preventing)
There are multiple ways to stop a storm. The most common are dispersing or binding storms. However there are also ways to prevent storms from coming by directing them away from where you are. This is great if you’re holding an event outside and you need good weather.
Dispersing
This method involves spreading the storm out over a large area thereby minimising its effects. You can disperse a storm by calling winds to blow it away (or in a certain direction) or if you favour using weather maps you can draw the low pressure system moving away and gradually dissipating.
Binding (Storm Catching)
This method is also called ‘storm catching’ and involves catching a storm and binding it within an object (usually a bottle or knots) so it can be released gradually at a later date by pulling out the cork or undoing the braid/knots.
Resources for Binding Storms
How to bind a storm in your hair by stormbornwitch
How to bind the wind in rope by ioqayin
Storm catching or “reeling in a storm” is even more difficult than storm casting so it’s always wise to think before you cast. Too much energy put into a storm and it will go on for weeks (and cause some flooding - basement incident) or it will be extremely violent and knock down power lines and tree branches. Too little energy and all you will get is a 5 minute shower of rain.
Other ways to stop a storm (Cutting a Storm) by witchuptheroad
Preventing a Storm (Weather Maps)
However, if you wish to prevent a storm from forming, you’re going to have to pull out the weather maps. To make a weather map all you need to do is to print out a map of your local area or the area you’re trying to keep a storm away from.
Just use google maps and don’t make the area too big or you might seriously strain yourself magically. Then laminate the map - now you have your own ‘whiteboard’ to draw weather symbols on to generate certain types of localised weather.
To practice this kind of magic you really do need to know how weather systems work and how they’re likely to move; knowing a little bit about meteorology goes a long way.
Once you’re ready, find out what the weather is predicted to be and draw it on your map. Now draw the high/low pressure systems moving so that the area you’re trying to protect doesn’t get rain. This method can also be used to bring rain to a certain area.

moon, sun, & tides - spell timing
another method of timing in celestial or cosmic magic involves using gravity, distance, and the idea that something closer to a target will have a greater influence than something farther away.
let's talk about the position of the moon and earth plus their position relative to the sun and how that affect tides, first.
[scroll all the way down for correspondences and magical ideas]
perigee - the point in the moon's orbit when it is closest to earth; greatest gravitational pull
apogee - the point in the moon's orbit when it is farthest from earth; weakest gravitational pull
perihelion - the point in a planet's orbit when it is closest to the sun
aphelion - the point in a planet's orbit when it is farthest from the sun
Tumblr media
commonly, magical practitioners will refer to a full moon at perigee as a supermoon, and tend to view that as a time of increased or enhanced lunar energy or influence; the opposite applies for the full moon at apogee, aka a micromoon.
scientifically speaking, the gravitational pull of the moon (tidal force) at perigee and apogee affect earth's oceans - lower than average tidal range and weaker tidal currents are a result of the moon's apogee, while the moon's perigee leads to higher than average tidal range and stronger tidal currents.
this is even further altered by the earth's relative location to the sun (the sun influences tides, too!) - if the earth is at perihelion, tidal ranges are enhanced, versus at aphelion where tidal ranges are diminished.
let's add some more stuff to the mix: there's also perigean spring tides! these tides occur when the moon is either new or full and closest to earth (at perigee). during these times, because of the alignment of the sun, moon, and earth, high tides are higher and low tides are lower.
Tumblr media
how can we apply this to witchcraft and magic?
not only are these concepts related to the moon and sun, but also... neptune! (because of the tides, of course)
use these events to time spells or rituals based on your intent.
earth at perihelion (↑ tides) - increased solar, lunar, and neptunian influence
moon at perigee (↑ tides) - increased lunar and neptunian influence
earth at aphelion (↓ tides) - decreased solar, lunar, and neptunian influence
moon at apogee (↓ tides) - decreased lunar and neptunian influence
new moon perigee (↑ tides) - increased lunar and neptunian influence and energy surrounding rebirth, renewal, cleansing, new beginnings, imagination, new ideas, and creative inspiration
full moon at perigee (↑ tides) - increased lunar and neptunian influence and energy surrounding manifestation, healing, dream magic, intuition, psychic abilities, divination, and mysticism

illusions and distortion in witchcraft
an illusion is defined as something that is likely to be wrongly perceived or interpreted, or something that distorts your perception.
distortion involves altering the natural or original state, shape, or condition of an object or giving a misleading impression of such.
illusions can affect all of the 5 senses - seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and feeling.
illusion vs glamour vs shield
i feel like the terms can be synonymous depending on your desired outcome but, this is how i break it down:
illusions: creating things that don't exist; what you perceive and what you want others to see
glamours: altering what already exists; how you perceive and how you want others to see things
shields: a combination of both but commonly used for protective workings
when to use an illusion spell
when you want to alter, manipulate, or distort the perception of reality.
invisibility (masking yourself or your energy)
distorting one's appearance or the appearance of other objects
confusion
distraction
disorientation
persuasion
how to cast an illusion spell
however you want, although i'm partial to raising energy in whatever method i choose, directing it into a thing, and then using said thing to activate the spell whenever i want.
correspondences & ideas for illusions
herbs:
anything psychotropic or hallucinogenic in nature - think chamomile, cannabis, datura, wormwood, mugwort, damiana, gingko, nutmeg, salvia, valerian, poppies, coffee, tea, etc.
OR whatever corresponds to your specific intent
crystals:
agate (confusion)
alexandrite (delusions)
amethyst (delusions)
celestite (detachment)
diamond (confusion, disorientation)
kunzite (distraction)
moldavite (delusions)
obsidian (conflict within others)
etc.
not to mention, crystals have refractive properties, too! you can use that idea for distortion. (check out my a-z crystal list and curse correspondences for some more ideas)
cosmic:
moon - emotions, imagination, and the unconscious mind
neptune and pluto - illusions and metamorphosis
dark matter and black holes - invisibility and darkness
elements: if you consider the example of "driving down the road and thinking you see a puddle of water up ahead but then it just disappears when you get close to it," mirages could technically incorporate all of the elements:
earth is the foundation for the mirage, or the road you're driving down
fire provides heat
air is heated by the road
the actual mirage appears as water
and! when water turns to ice, it can create optical illusions like parhelia (sun dogs), sun haloes, and light pillars because of its interaction with sunlight.
plus lots of other cool stuff so use your imagination and good luck!

Crystal Studies: Malachite
Tumblr media
Other Names: Malaku (Greek, “Mallow”)
Description: Malachite is a green carbonate mineral known for its distinct green color rings. Many imitation malachite crystals are on the market, but are easily identified. Though authentic malachite is all green, imitation malachite often has black. Imitation malachite also often looks very distinctly like clay.
Formation and Composition: The traditional green color of malachite forms during the oxidation process of copper. This happens when the sulfide elements of copper are exposed to water and turn green. The trick is, if the water contains carbonic acid, new compounds are formed and can turn the copper into malachite or blue azurite. Malachite is found naturally in a variety of forms, including stalactites, nodules, and sometimes slabs.
Location: Malachite can be found in Australia, Chile, China, France, Morocco, Namibia, Russia, Arizona, and Zimbabwe. The largest deposits can  be found in the Congo and Zaire, and smaller deposits can be found in various copper sites.
Cleansing Method: There is some debate as to whether or not malachite is a toxic stone. Generally, raw malachite is not toxic unless it is inhaled as a fine dust. Despite that, malachite is a very fragile stone, so handle with care. Malachite is also a stone that should never be put in water, especially direct-infusion elixirs.
Physical Healing Properties: As always, I will say to always consult a doctor for your medical needs. Crystal healing can be a fantastic healing supplement to your primary care, but should never be your only source of medical care. Some physical healing properties of malachite include reducing inflammation, particularly arthritis and rheumatism, healing the sexual organs, aid in childbirth, physical vitality, and detoxification. Because of its association with Venus, malachite is a great stone to use to help women with their monthly menstrual cycle. Mental benefits of malachite stem towards knowledge and inspiration. For artists, it can promote creativity, and for students, it can help absorb knowledge faster.
Emotional Healing Properties: Malachite is a great stone to use when healing matters of the heart. Used in conjunction with rose quartz, malachite will promote self-love. It is often a stone used for heartbreak and realizing our own self-worth. Malachite has a very peaceful energy, lending itself well to helping us accept ourselves and find peace amongst emotional stress and trauma.
Meditations: Malachite is most often used in conjunction with the heart chakra, to open us up to love and find peace.
Divinatory Meaning: An ignition of love, be it self-love, romantic love, or platonic love.
Magickal Properties: in ritual lore, malachite is worn on the body to detect possible danger. This would be useful for any spirit work or during times when you are unable to cast a circle of protection. When danger is near, the stone is said to break apart. This stone is also used to protect travellers, especially against falls. Malachite is also used in ritual work to lend extra power and energy to the person or persons performing magick. It will also give a little extra boost to whatever you’re doing. In ancient times, it was traditional for the ritual malachite to be engraved with a sun figure. Malachite is also associated with the planet Venus, and is commonly used in love spells. This also works in conjunction with the heart chakra. Its colors promote calm energy, helping sleep and bringing emotional balance to the bearer. Malachite kept in the business area attracts customers and prosperity. In a sale situation, wearing malachite will attract good sales.
History and Folklore: Malachite is a stone closely associated with the Egyptian Goddess Hathor. She is a Goddess who looks after women, often referred to as the Lady of Malachite. It was often worn in amulets and talismans to channel the Goddess and all her attributes. It was also added to Khol, a type of eyeliner worn by men and women alike. This was thought to protect the wearer, and also honor the Goddess Hathor. The Greeks carved images of the Sun in the stone. This was thought to chase away negativity and shadows, bringing the rays of the run to illuminate the darkness. The Romans, unlike the Greeks, associated malachite with the Moon instead of the Sun. Malachite was sacred to the Goddess Diana, and adorned her temple at Ephesus. Due to its distinct circular pattern, it was used in the middle ages to avert the Evil Eye. It is also used for this purpose in modern times.

Magickal Correspondences: September
Tumblr media
Word Origin: September got its name from the Latin word “septem” meaning “seven”. This is because September is the seventh month of the old Roman calendar, and the first month of fall. Even with the addition of new months to the calendar, the name was never changed. Historical names for the month of September include the Irish name “Meán Fómhair” or “an t-Sultainn” (“fat time”), the Anglo-Saxon name “Haligmonath” (“holy month”), the Frankish name “Witumanoth” (“wood month”), and the Asatru name “Shedding”. Mythology: Pomona the Roman Goddess of fruit, fruit trees, and abundance is the Goddess most associated with this month. Pomona’s name comes from the root word “pomum”, which means “fruit”, and she was said to be a wood nymph. She is a Goddess that is associated with the harvest, and is therefore associated with the month of September, a harvest month. Her symbols include the apple and the cornucopia. Unlike other deities associated with months, she is a purely Roman deity, and does not have a Greek counterpart. One myth about Pomona portrays her as a virginal wood nymph. One day, she is visited by an old woman. Pomona asks her for advice about marriage, and the old woman tells her that Vertumnus would be a very good match for her. Pomona pursues and marries Vertumnus only to realize that the old woman was actually Vertumnus is disguise! They are said to be a very active couple, and their love creates the many apple trees. She isn’t the most prolific Goddess, and there isn’t much mythology on her. She is however a ubiquitous character in classical art. In the Harry Potter series, the herbology professor is named Pomona Sprout. Traditions and Folklore: the most important date in September for pagans and wiccans is Mabon, otherwise known as the Autumn Equinox. Like Ostara, this is the day where light and dark are equal. Unlike Ostara, this time the days will get shorter and shorter until the winter solstice at Yule when the God dies and is reborn again. Mabon is known as the pagan thanksgiving, and is a time to give thanks and celebrate the harvest. This is also the time of year when many thanksgiving traditions are celebrated, and it is believed that this was the month when the original American Thanksgiving took place. The date was changed to November by President Abraham Lincoln. Another holiday many think of during the month of September is Labor Day, which is a day that celebrates labor unions. Michaelmas is celebrated on September 29th, and a Celtic tradition that marks the end of the harvesting season. The Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on September 29th, and is one of their religion’s most holy days. Some folklore sayings that go with the month of September are: “Heavy September rains bring drought”, “September dries up ditches or breaks down bridges”, “September blow soft, till the fruit’s in the loft”, “Married in September’s golden glow, smooth and serene your life will go”, “If the storms of September clear off warm, the storms of the following winter will be warm”, “Fair on September 1st, fair for the month”. Doing Your Own Research
Tumblr media
Or, more appropriately titled: Doing Your Own Research, Without Just Looking Up Someone Else’s Correspondence Lists. Because while those lists are very handy to get started or have a shorthand reference, it gives us memorization, stopping just short of real understanding. What’s more, most correspondence lists won’t have your local (overlooked) plant life, or whatever niche plant, rock, animal you need. Sometimes, you have to get your hands dirty and figure it out from scratch.
Anyway so here’s some stuff you can do to aid in that.
The Science Look into what it physically is. What family does it belong to? If that weird plant growing in your backyard is closely related to say, basil, it will likely have similar properties. Was that crystal formed under heat and pressure, or is it a sedimentary rock? What does this animal do? How does it live and survive? A lot of correspondences come from this level, and it’s the easiest level to research. Physical traits and fun science facts are all welcome here and fair game to use in magic. The Folklore Okay, so we know what the Thing is made of, but let’s look into its relationship with humans. There’s nothing demanding that roses be the Official Love Flower, but rather it’s a collective cultural thing. That has worked itself into magic as well. Are there any stories involving your object of choice? Local superstitions? Home remedies? What does this item get used for in wider culture? For some things, there may not be much here. But for those that do have lore, it’s a valuable resource. The Vibes The actual, spiritual sensations you get from holding or touching the Thing. (This is going to apply more to rocks and plants… please don’t go out and touch wild animals.) This will give you some better understanding beyond just what it does, but how it does it. Does the energy seem aggressive? Is it fast or slow moving? Does it give you the impression of being related to a certain element? Which brings us into the next…
The Voice If you communicate with stuff or spirits at all, this is for you. Just ask the Thing for yourself! “Hello. I am ____. Tell me, what sort of things would you be able to help me with?” Prepare an interview, maybe. This will likely be more specific than “love” or “cleansing,” because they’re giving you a pitch and will know themselves very well. It may be “I help someone realize romantic feelings they already have but don’t know about,” or “I help other cleansing items so that cleansed spaces stay cleaner for longer, but I don’t work by myself.” If you get an answer, record it!
Experiment Use the Thing! If you have a general idea of what it does, throw it into the mix for your next relevant spell and see how it changes the result. You can read a lot about something, but the research doesn’t stop when you start using it! As you discover things through repeated use, make note of that as well!
Happy researching!
