The legal precident established by Skrmetti will probably stand for quite some time and is a devastating blow to trans youth, but the gender affirming care bans in HR1 have since been struck down for now. Mahmoud v Taylor will further reinforce the erasure of LGBTQIA folks in schools and literature, but Judge Kobick's injunction in Boston will allow many people to get their passports and documentation again. And while most politicians are throwing us under the bus, Zohran just pulled off an unbelievable upset in my city while still unapologetically supporting Trans folks.

This emotional roller coaster is an endless tug of war and the constant threat of one future with the relentless hope for another future is what keeps me waking up every day to keep inching this timeline toward the latter, together with everyone else who isn't resigned to go quietly.

Dysphoria (2025)

This is a repaint of an illustration I first posted right here on this account over a decade ago when I first transitioned. I did this for TDOV this year as a sort of 'then vs now' for myself more than anything. A lot has changed in a decade. I've changed.

A decade ago visibility felt like liberation, but today it feels like a target. A decade ago politicians made a lot of promises to us, and today they can't run away from us fast enough. A decade ago I was crashing out in a dysphoria spiral. Today, in spite of everything, I'm at peace with myself.

It's Pride Month in the States and the Trans community is going through it. Between the Skrmetti decision and the threat of HR1 stripping care from Trans people of ALL ages on Medicaid and ACA plans, Trans people need support more than ever.

So I'm making this illustration available as a print in my shop and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Point of Pride, an organization dedicated to providing financial aid for transition care. I'll post receipts of funds donated at the end of the month.

I'm aiming to raise at least $2000, as that's the amount needed to cover 12 months of telehealth services, prescription medications, lab work, and more for at least one trans person in need of HRT.

Transition care really IS life saving, it saved MY life. I wouldn't have lived to make any of the art that people have told me they love so much. My whole portfolio, all my work over the years, none of it would exist. If my art has ever meant anything to you, please, help.

JAWS 大白鯊

Roy Scheider got slapped 17 times to get this shot. Bruce has gotten a lot of the glory over the years, so I wanted, for a change, to celebrate the incredible characters and their small town New England drama that make this movie what it is.

It’s the 50th Anniversary of JAWS. In 1975 JAWS was the highest grossing movie of all time, and was released overseas in dozens of countries. But you won’t typically find Taiwan on that list, because in 1975 Taiwan was no longer recognized internationally.

But it was released in theaters there in 1975, known in Taiwan as 大白鯊. My Mom personally watched it during its release, and even remembers billboards of it. But because of the complicated history of Taiwan, it’s not well documented.

I wanted to fix that and give Taiwan the flowers it deserves, so I made a retro Taiwanese JAWS poster. All text is in Traditional Chinese, which is distinct to Taiwan, HK, and Macau. My mom is always asking, ‘How come you make all these posters in Japanese? Can’t you do a Chinese one for once?’ So this one is for my Mom.

I want to give a big shout out to Rob Jones for art directing this. Thank you to my Mom for helping me translate and format everything Taiwan-accurate. And of course, thanks to CODA for having me in their official JAWS 50th Anniversary art show.⁠

The exhibit opens at Art Alliance of Monmouth County in Red Bank, NJ with a reception on June 28 and will be on view through July 13.

And The Eyes Of Them Both

This was a farewell love letter to my favorite childhood anime. I'm glad those kids finally grew up. You're all free now.

I've never posted this here, as I did this during my time away so I decided to fix that. Hope you like it, it's one of my favorites~

THE ADVOCATE

Cover art I did for 'The Advocate' written by Daniel M. Ford, and published by Tor Books. This is the third book in the swords and sorcery series following Aelis De Lenti. Aelis returns home to Lascenise to clear the name of her mentor, accused of murder, and unravel a conspiracy of wizards and assassins. With no one she can trust Aelis enlists the help of old friend Miralla and old enemy Amadin. I didn't get to this one either but this time around I got very detailed descriptions to work off of. They are all at a dinner party where a fight breaks out, hence the formal wear. Aelis' motif is skulls and daggers, and Miralla's stars and eyes. Miralla is a diviner which is why her eyes are glowing white as she guides the other two. Amadin's main stand out comments were 'arrogant enough to fight with a glass of wine in his hand' and 'very punchable face' lol Other than that everyone's looks are pretty straight forward, verbatim as described. Thanks once again to AD Esther Kim!

NECROBANE

Cover art I did for 'Necrobane' written by Daniel M. Ford, and published by Tor Books. This is the second book in the swords and sorcery series following Aelis De Lenti. She's journeying deep into the snowy wilderness with Maurenia, the mercenary she's fallen for, and Tun her half-orc friend, to find an immense necromantic power to stop an undead army, and prevent a war. Tun is a returning character. A fur trader, naturalist, and close friend of Aelis. I again had to interpret what he was going to look like based on my reading of the text. Admittedly, I didn't get to read this one because of the schedule, but he is described in the first book, so I had it. Tun is a Nordic word and given he comes from the snowy mountains of the North and has braided hair I read him as a viking orc, which sounded cool to me and hopefully it is to you too. THE WARDEN

Cover art I did for 'The Warden' written by Daniel M. Ford and published by Tor Books. This is the first book in the swords and sorcery series following Aelis De Lenti, recently graduated necromancer, assigned to her first job as Warden of Lone Pine, a remote village on the farthest border of the kingdom where she meets her elf companion Maurenia, a mercenary that she may or may not be crushing on. This was an interesting job because I didn't have detailed visual assets of the characters, so I had to read the book and compile all the descriptions of them to piece together what they look like. With a short sword and wand for casting ward magic and necromancy, I read Aelis as INT/DEX. I figured she's not 100% magic so she should still have armor, but lighter armor, so I landed on a gambeson and cloak. And with a rapier and crossbow I read Maurenia as STR/DEX. Her description said classy studded leather armor, so I gave her the full pauldron, bracer, grieves ensemble. This was a fun one. Thanks to AD Esther Kim!

Demi Moore was robbed! I know. I'm biased. But, she delivered, award or not.

This scene in the bathroom getting ready for the date? Gutted. It felt so personal. As if everything in the movie is a metaphorical fever dream, but this one moment is real, like she's lucid just long enough for us to see where the nightmare is coming from.

And Sue is the hot pink nightmare. She's like the validation Elisabeth will never have. Always just out of reach. Terrorizing her. I drew Sue's hand extended out to blow a kiss but, simultaneously, Elisabeth is literally in the palm of her hand.

I worked with Mutant and Mubi to put this movie poster together for 'The Substance.' Thanks to AD Eric Garza! The poster is an 18”x24”, 10-color screenprint. Edition of 135. Available now in the Mutant shop.

I had the wild opportunity to work on a MTG card a few years ago and it came out a few months ago. My take on the classic card Relentless Rats. It's borderless and holographic. Card number 0754. Rarity R

The card depicts wall to wall rats devouring a person whole. And I didn't even have to train 5000 live rats. The first image is my original art with placeholder text, but in the final print they added a flavor text quote, "if you starve them, they grow voracious." Isn't that sweet~

My shop will be reopening tomorrow, Valentine’s day~ I've got new things coming this year. Thanks for the warm welcome back to Tumblr! I appreciate it. It's been a rough 7 months both personally and generally. If you follow me on other platforms you might already know my grandad passed last summer, and I took it kind of hard. I was in Taiwan for a month for the funeral and the mourning period lasts for a hundred days afterward in Buddhist tradition. That's how long it takes before a person reincarnates.

It's taken me longer than I thought to process it all. But, as I've said already elsewhere, it's time for me to move on. No more bed rot. That's the healthy thing to to. So, thanks again for having me back! TLDR My shop is reopening Friday, February 14th, 12PM EST. More news to come. Be safe yall.

Syntax Error

After years of being asked about it, I thought I'd tell the story of my peculiar name, and explain what this little logogram I started using is about.

I don't look like my name should be Sachin. South Asian folks point it out to me all the time. If you don't know, Sachin is a Sanskrit name, and I am visibly not Desi, so people are often confused. People usually ask if I'm named after Sachin Tendulkar, the famous cricket player. And for a period of time my local Indian restaurant thought I was Indian and would give me free rice! Until they found out I wasn't and stopped. Very sad day.

So why am I named Sachin if I'm not Desi?

The name my parents gave me is 十晴. Specifically my dad. My father insisted on naming me. Spent months obsessing over it. But he never gave me an English name. And on the day I was born my dad was…asleep, didn't answer the phone which rang all day, and missed the entire birth. To this day my mother tells this story whenever I miss a phone call. So, when I was born they had no idea what to put on my birth certificate.

The pinyin translation for 十晴 is Shí Qíng. But my mom didn't know pinyin. The lawyer who drew up the paperwork for my birth certificate was Indian, and when he heard 十晴, he said, 'that sounds like Sachin. I'll just put that!' And my mother, tired and alone in the hospital, in a foreign land called Flushing, Queens, said okay. And who can blame her.

And that's how I got my name. In the most arbitrary, accidental way possible. My dad, after months and months of hyper-focusing on a name, fumbled it all right at the end. I wish I could say my name was meaningful in Hànyǔ at least but, my name is very strange to Hànyǔ speakers as well.

The character 十 means 'ten' as in the number 10. And 晴 means 'clear sunny skies.' It's the kind of word a weather reporter will commonly use in the forecast. Honestly, Ten Sunny Skies sounds like a Wǔxiá character. Like Eight Flying Lotuses or Five Poison Fists, or something. Not gunna lie, I prefer this explanation.

So my dad loves to tell this joke…about how his name is too hard to write. It has so many strokes in it that when he was in school taking tests it took him so long to write his name that when he was finished writing it the other students already finished taking the whole test. So, when he has a child he's going to make sure to give them the easiest name with the fewest strokes possible.

And that's where it comes from. Some dinner party joke he liked to tell friends. Thanks dad.

My name has a different meaning to me now as an adult. Over the years many people have heard my name and said, 'Do you know the story of Hòu Yì 后羿?'

An old folktale says there used to be 10 Suns. They would cycle one at a time, because there can never be more than one sun in the sky at the same time. But, one day the suns got lonely, they wanted to see each other and broke the rules. All 10 suns burned at the same time. To stop the suns from burning the entire world down Hòu Yì, the legendary archer, shot the suns out of the sky and left just one, the sun we have today.

It's a fable about doing too much, not thinking about the consequences, and literally burning out. Something I relate to more than I'd like. I burned out hard a few years ago and recovering was a long, painful journey that I never want to repeat.

In the end, the last Sun loses all their siblings and has to carry the burden alone. But, if they'd just had patience and paced themselves, there would still be 10 suns across 'Ten Sunny Skies 十晴.'

Hey yall, it's been a while. Let's fix that.

I stopped actively using Tumblr quite a few years ago. It got weird for a while there. Female presenting nipple etc. But I miss blogs. I miss reading long posts. I miss writing long posts. And there isn't a lot of places to do either anymore. A girl needs to info dump sometimes. Also, I miss gif sets?

This will still mostly be an art blog. But now with like essays and shit? Not sure yet. I'm trusting the process. We'll see how this goes.

FINAL FANTASY 30th Anniversary Legacy of Art Show

Like a lot of people, my childhood was spent playing Final Fantasy games. I always feel nostalgic for blocky polygons and pixels. FF has come a long way from those days.

I’m excited to finally be able to tell you about this project! I was invited to be one of 5 guest artists, along with Helen Chen, Joey Chou, Jisoo Kim, and Perry Maple in the FF 30th Anniversary Legacy of Art Exhibition at Gallery Nucleus, from December 2, 2017 - January 7, 2018!
