I ask for Mountain since I see some of the other ghouls a fair bit and was wondering how Mountain would look in your style.

Here's the Dewther fic I was talking about! Well...it's got Dew and Aether in it, but I'm not sure I can really categorize it as Dewther. Anyway, a huge shout out to @local-neighbourhood-cryptid for letting me scream this idea at them. Here is a near 900 word ice skating whump ficlet because that's what I needed tonight! Oh and oops, I tripped and they/them'd Aether. 😎

Includes: blood and injuries (sprained ankle, concussion), unconsciousness, nearly drowning, infirmary, my earth ghoul element HCs, they/them Aether

Ice skating was supposed to be fun. A way to get out and do something in the winter. At least that's what Aether believed when they dragged a reluctant Dew out to the lake that afternoon. They didn't know how to skate, but the fire ghoul did.

So, of course, they used their puppy eyes to convince him to teach them. Once he had gotten them both laced up into their skates, the fire ghoul took a deep breath and stepped out into the ice. It'd been years since he last skated, but he just couldn't tell Aether no. It would be fine, he told himself as the quint wobbled his way onto the ice. It was meant to be fun…

“Aeth, be careful-whoa fuck!”

Dew exclaimed as they both fell to the ice, in the middle of the lake. Aether’s head slammed hard onto the ice with a sickening crack. The fire ghoul tried to stand up to get to them, but just ended up crumpling back down to his knees. He hadn't fallen very gracefully, so he was pretty certain his ankle was, at the very least, sprained. Sliding his way over to the quint, he gasped at the sight before him. Aether was unconscious and blood was beginning to pool under one side of their head.

“Ae…ther?” Dew said in a small, broken voice, his trembling hands reaching out to them.

He cradled their head in his arms, trying to fight the rapidly rising panic. Neither of them had their phones, but maybe if he screamed loud enough, one of their pack mates would hear. He felt Aether begin to shiver and instinctually kicked up his body temperature.

He thought that would work well enough to give him some time to formulate a plan. Luck was just not on his side that day. The ice cracked so loudly that birds scattered from the nearby trees.

The fire ghoul immediately stopped using his element and let the panic wash over him. This was all his fault. If he hadn't agreed to come out here, they would be cuddled up by the fire with hot cocoa. Dew shook his head, as if it would do anything to clear the panic. The ice kept cracking under their weight, making him start to hyperventilate. Hot tears burned his cheeks as they fell onto Aether's face.

“SOMEONE HELP!” He screamed as loud as he could as the ice began to break apart beneath them.

In a last ditch effort, Dew pushed Aether as far as he could away from the damaged ice, just before it crumbled completely. The last thing he heard as he went under was who he thought was Mountain shouting his name. Then everything went black.

Waking up felt strange, wrong almost. It was thankfully warm and he felt something soft underneath him. There were also just so many scents and hushed voices, it was a bit overwhelming. When he stirred slightly and groaned at the pain in his ankle, the voices went silent. He felt a large, gentle hand on his head and heard Omega's voice.

“Hey firefly, are you back with us?”

He slowly opened his eyes and everyone around him breathed a collective sigh of relief. Dew was laying in a bed, in the infirmary. The whole pack was surrounding him, with worried looks on their faces. Well, everyone except Aether.

“Shit, where's Aeth!” He said as he bolted upright, immediately regretting the decision as a wave of dizziness hit him.

Omega caught him as he fell back, easing him against the pillows and covering him with a blanket. “Relax firefly, he's safe and resting. Phantom is with him now, don't worry.” He explained.

“What happened? How am I even alive right now?” Dew asked, slightly dumbfounded.

Swiss patted Mountain on the back, who just looked away sheepishly. “Mount managed to use his vines to grab you before you sank too deep! Did the same with Aether. It was pretty awesome to watch, even given the circumstances.”

The fire ghoul looked at him in shock. He had really saved both of them with his element, in the dead of winter. He was about to thank him when the door burst open and two arguing quints could be heard approaching.

“You can't be running around like this with a concussion, Aether! Omega's gonna have my horns if you don't lay back down.”

“Ant, I told you, I'm fine! I just need to see-” They cut themself off as they flung the privacy curtain open. Their eyes immediately fell on the fire ghoul, tears of relief filling them.

“Dew!”

Everyone stepped aside to let them through and the quint threw their arms around the smaller ghoul. Omega chuckled and shooed the rest of the pack off to give them some time together. As soon as they were alone, Dew kissed Aether deeply, letting a few tears fall. When they pulled apart, he pressed his forehead to theirs and smiled. He was just so relieved to have them in his arms.

“Next year, we're watching ice skating on TV.” He said with a wet laugh.

They climbed into his bed, cuddling him close and instantly starting to purr. “Fine by me, love.”
