Don’t take home for granted

The first time I went to the Dominican Republic I was blown away by the way people lived. I knew I had to go back so I did an internship. Started to change and adapt the way I lived and eventually had an understanding of what it was like to live in a country that needs help. I took so many things for granted back home. The smallest things can be the biggest issue in other cultures and countries. Water being an obvious one, but how about school. I hated school so much and now wish I could go back and have a re-do. How many families in third world countries that would love to send their kids to school? God is doing so many great things in the Dominican Republic. Working through GO Ministries and the local leaders there. I can’t wait to go back. Lots to be done and God is moving here in the midst!

Known by God

I lived my entire childhood trying to be known by everyone. The funniest guy in the room and even that one kid that would consistently get in trouble over the dumbest things. My life as a kid, a child of God. I was not known as a child of God at a young age. I grew up in a christian home, yet I never acted like a christian. I was two different people depending on what day it was. I was the youngest of my siblings and I took full advantage of that. Up to the age of 13 High School days, I had still not figured out who I was. Finally found what I love... Music. How did I get involved at Messiah? Music. At the time I would've never realized that was God’s plan all along. Skipping ahead a bit but by my Senior year I had known God for about 2 years. Gave my life to Christ countless times. It wasn’t until a couple accidents (car accident & water rafting incident) that I started getting dreams and things started coming together. I was trying to be a christian at this point. I was trying to live my life but also love Jesus. It doesn't work like that though, I wasn't being humble I was trying to be known. Looking at it now which is 2 years after that, it is humbling to know that I am Known by God. I want to share that with others. He is chasing after you in every way.

Head to Heart

My youth group is a great place to grow as a leader. Although I used to be in these kids shoes and used to not care about religion. I thought I was growing as a child of God but that was only on those “awesome youth retreats”. Returning from those events proved I was playing Church like a video game. Seeing Kids now I really hope that they use youth retreats to deepen their faith. In hopes that it would change the way that they think. Humility is a challenge that we need to strive for on a day to day basis. I wish I knew that sooner, but at the same time I’m excited to know that everything happens for a reason and I’m saved for a reason. That is great news and living day to day knowing that is inspiring.

Simplicity

Having been involved in music related activities for more than a decade, I used to think of the phrase “the more the merrier” being key. In reality though you can sound just as great without compromising simplicity. Although sometimes you need certain things to be successful, what I learned is much greater than that. Staying humble in what you do while staying simple can lead to a greater outcome. This is just a random thought that's been in my head. I was reading Romans and read about humility and from there thought about all the choices I made involving my own ministry and that’s when I realized I had compromised the ability of being simple.
