If you're not a member of Fairyloot and want a copy, there are currently a few available on PangoBooks.com. Here's a link for anyone who wants to grab a copy!
I'm not usually someone who collects special editions, but how gorgeous is this?!

Why you should read Sorcery and Small Magics by Maiga Doocy:
Cozy fantasy with an actual plot and stakes
But not crazy high stakes. Not "save the world stakes." I would describe this as a medium-stakes plot, if that makes sense.
Absolutely delightful prose. I love the way this book is written.
Really cool magic system that basically boils down to: some people can cast spells, some people can write spells, but no one can do both so casters and scrivers (spell writers) have to work together.
Wizard school setting that isn't just a H*rry P*tter copycat.
Queer disaster protagonist who intentionally pushes people away so he can't hurt them (I LOVE this trope)
The other protagonist is a grumpy perfectionist workaholic, but there's more going on beneath the surface
Slow burn romance that's ACTUALLY slow burn
On a similar note: rivals-to-lovers where the rivalry isn't just bullying or outright abuse that gets handwaved away once they fall in love
The romance doesn't overshadow the plot or fantasy elements. (I would describe this as a fantasy novel with a romance, as opposed to straight-up romantasy.)
Delightful side characters
Thoughtful commentary on class politics
The audiobook is also very good if you prefer that to paperback or ebook

Started listening to ACOSF on audiobook because my fun coworker keeps recommending it to me and I'm trying to Make an Effort to have work friends, and I'm putting this here because I can never ever tell my coworker:
Why is this a fantasy novel for white women who volunteer at church on the weekends?

A strange alien doctor stands near the unconscious body of Padme Amidala. “It appears she has lost the will to live.” A older man with a limp hobbles closer with the aid of a cane. “That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard,” says Dr. Gregory House.

My partners and I have started affectionately referring to this Guardian as "We have Ketheric Thorm at home," or "Frederic Foam" as my husband calls him.
Has anyone else tried making a Dark Urge PC who looks like Orin?
Tumblr media
I started my DU playthrough today after already watching my husband play through the reveal, and I thought it would be fun if Orin and Durge actually looked like siblings. Included the red eyes and white skin as a reference to the default Durge.
I love the idea of a Durge who feels a pang of grief every time she looks in the mirror, without knowing why. A Durge whose own face is a reminder of the sister who betrayed her and the father who pit them against each other.
I also tried to make her guardian look like Ketheric Thorm because I love the idea of memories of her past life manifesting in her dreams.

No tragic Gortash memories because my Durge fuckin hates him as much as I do lmao 🤷‍♀️

can't stop thinking about the dark urge scoffing at gortash's insistence that they were close before.
saying, if we were allies, then where were you when my skull was split open by my sister, whom you now work with, as if I never existed? where was our alliance when my skin was peeled from the bone and my organs were rearranged and I died and was reborn a hundredfold? why didn't you go looking for me? if I was important to you and we needed each other, then why did you let me go?
you're lying to my face. I can't have mattered to you at all, we can't have been close, because when I woke up on that nautiloid, I woke up alone.
and I come here, no longer alone, but no thanks to you. you expect me to return to what we were?
if we were anything at all, it died the same day that your dark urge died. I am all that remains, and I don't know you.

It's so sad if you're playing as Dark Urge that you can't do more to try and talk Orin down from her bhaalspawn mania. I understand she's been conditioned to the point where there's no way she would actually listen to us. But like...she's still our sister and not only that, Dark Urge very likely had a hand in raising Orin in the temple of Bhaal and properly indoctrinating her.
I just wish there was more we could say to her other than all the typical lines Tav normally has for her + a few extra lines about the duel. Namely, I wish we could apologize to Orin. I know that sounds kinda crazy given she lobotomized us. But again, as leader of the Bhaal cult, we are partially responsible for shaping who she became. If you're playing as a good/redemptive Urge, I think you should feel at least some level of pity for Orin.
"You deserved a normal life and a normal family. We both did. I'm sorry."
