Hornblower and co. getting Hotspur out of the dockyard and only finding one thing to fix (shifting the trim aft because she wasn't turning well) instead of a million things over a period of weeks.
I can understand why Hornblower finds Bush's competence so incredibly erotic attractive important.

Hey! You!
Do you enjoy my posts pointing and laughing at terrible attorneys?
Do you like news that is sourced from original legal filings?
Do you think the public should have not just the right, but the practical ability, to access public records?
Well, do I have an opportunity for you!
In the U.S. even though (most) federal court records are public documents, it costs money to actually access these documents - 10 cents a page!
This can add up fast when you are talking about legal filings. For example, if you followed along with my recent posts about Sir Clownshoes, his response to the Court's Show Cause order was 112 pages, including exhibits. The reason I was able to make those posts without paying the U.S. government $11 was because of a wonderful site called CourtListener (https://www.courtlistener.com/). They have a browser extension that automatically adds court documents that the user purchases from PACER (the federal site that costs money) to their public site (https://free.law/recap). That way, only one person has to pay $11, instead of everyone single person who wants to point and laugh.
What does this have to do with you?
CourtListener recently launched a new project that allows users to indicate documents that they need/want access to, but cannot pay for themselves, their "Pray and Pay" Project (https://www.courtlistener.com/help/pray-and-pay/)
Anyone can register for a PACER account. (https://pacer.uscourts.gov/register-account/pacer-case-search-only) (You don't need to be an attorney, or even in the U.S.! You do need to give your name, DOB, address, and other contact information, however.) And every three months, you can download up to $30 worth of documents - that is, 300 pages, for free.
That means, you - yes you! - can register for a PACER account, download the RECAP extension, and then, four times a year, help provide researches, litigants, interested parties, and shitposters alike access to public records! All without having to pay a cent!
Alternatively, if you need or want access to a public court document, but don't have the funds/can't make a PACER account for some reason, you can request the document through CourtListener. (You do still need to register with CourtListener, but it requires far less information.)
As of the time of this post, there are 1,007 pending requests for documents. Just 17 people could fulfill all those requests, right now, for free.
(And I know I'm framing this in terms of my silly little posts, but having access to these cases and these documents is actually really, really important to a lot of people. You will absolutely make someone's day by fulfilling a request.)

the weed dispensaries should ask if you would like to round up your purchase to donate to PBS. and if you say yes you get to scan a QR code that gives you 30-day free access to the full run of antiques roadshow. this is how drugs can win the war on drugs again.

Trump’s defunding of CPB means a massive loss to all local PBS and NPR public broadcasting stations. But based on their ability to get sponsorships, advertisers, other grants, private donations, state funding, and membership subscribers, some stations will end up hit a lot harder than others.
And some of the hardest hit stations, the ones who had been relying most heavily on this federal funding, are Native American and Indigenous Nations’ local stations. Radio stations in rural areas and on reservations can often be a really important source of locally relevant information—and publicly available media in Native languages.
Unfortunately, many Native American-serving public media stations listed on Adopt A Station don't have donation or support pages that I can find (KGHR - Greyhills Academy in the Navajo Nation in Arizona; KGVA - The Voice of the Aaniiih and Nakoda Nations in Montana; KSHI - The Voice of the A:shiwi in Zuni Pueblo, New Mexico; KCUW - Umatilla Reservation Community Radio in Oregon; KTNN - The Voice of the Navajo Nation broadcasting from Arizona; KUHB - The Voice of the Pribilofs in St. Paul, Alaska; KDSP - Sand Point in Alaska... if you can find any, let me know! And certainly if you're in the area, show them some support!)
But one that's actively running a fundraiser that could absolutely use more support is KUYI - Hopi Radio in Arizona. Broadcasting from the seat of the Hopi government in Kykotsmovi, KUYI includes local news from the Hopi reservation and programming in the Hopi language. They're also set to lose 60% of their funding with the CPB funds rescinded. Donate to support them here—they’re aiming to raise $25,000 for their 25th anniversary, and as of the time of this posting have raised $1,660.

One Year of Bobbin Lace
One year ago today I made my first piece of lace! I had started seeing videos of lacemaking on tiktok and was amazed because I had never seen it before, and didn't understand how it worked. I decided to just watch one video so I could understand what was happening. But after watching the video, it just clicked in my head and I was like I could do that. I went to a thrift shop and bought a box of pins and a huge spool of mystery thread (i think it is a cotton or linen something, still haven't been able to identify it for sure), and got to work.
My first attempt at a setup was using a foam yoga mat as a bolster pillow
Tumblr media
but that did not work for me 😂 I couldn't control the bobbins and it was just too big to be manageable. so instead i switched to the laptop case and thus my first two pieces of lace were made

I then started making my way through the beginner torchon patterns from Jo Edkin's Online Lace School.

In November, I moved from Switzerland where I had been attending grad school back home to the US and updated my lace pillow from a laptop case to a folded piece of felt and got my hands on a few different lace books (the three my library had lol) to start trying out some new things (1, 2,3)

For Christmas, I received a lace pillow and some bobbins and was surprised at how much I improved just with the right equipment

In April I did a bunch of research and got to work making myself a Honiton lace pillow. I loved the process of making it and definitely want to make more in the future.

I joined my local lace group and have attended some events and gotten to meet a lot of great people already and hope that I can start attending more events soon! I'm also hoping to maybe start demonstrating at events later this year and share my love for lace with more people.
What a difference a year makes

Have you ever wanted to join a fandom event, but all the rules seemed scary? The deadlines were way too close? Maybe you weren't sure if you'd be consistently productive and didn't want to disappoint anyone?
"Fandom with Benefits" allows you to have a low-commitment relationship with our monthly events. There are very few rules, and no deadlines, ever.
Every month an event and its theme/prompts are revealed:
Tumblr media
Detailed descriptions will be part of the event's post.
The first event will launch on September 1, 2025!
FAQ behind the readmore ↓
How do I post something for the event?
Share your creations on AO3, tumblr, or link to what you've shared on another platform (pillowfort, dreamwidth, etc).
On AO3, add your work—or a bookmark of it—to the event's collection.
On tumblr, use both the general #fandomwithbenefits hashtag, and the specific event's hashtag to make sure people can find your post.
Collection links and hashtags will be included in the monthly event's posts. There's no deadline to post to them; it doesn't have to be in the month or even in the year the event was revealed.
We won't be reblogging works here. This space is to find inspiration, not entertainment :)
What are the rules, precisely?
These events are open to all fandoms, all 'ships, any content and rating, as long as it's allowed to be posted on tumblr/AO3. Keep the platform's TOS in mind and remember to tag your works appropriately! Nobody likes to be jumpscared by something they're not into, and it makes your work findable by those who are into it.
There are no size limits, or requirements for the work to be complete or polished. You decide when to share it.
Every event remains open indefinitely. If you come across a three-year old prompt that gets your creativity going—awesome!
Any medium and form is welcome, too! Let the prompts inspire you not only to fanfic and fanart, but also poetry, nail art, handlettering in a conlang, recipes, mixtapes, memes, knitting guides, dioramas, fake movie posters, home decoration, photos of your figurines' adventures, bookbinding, etc.
