one egregious thing the game of thrones show misses out on is that the stark kids are CONSTANTLY thinking abt each other!! there isn’t like a single POV chapter from any of them where they don’t long for their siblings!! Jon wants to have a son and name him Robb!! Bran wants to be a bird so him and his siblings can live in a nest together!! Sansa prays for her siblings every night and makes the Winterfell castle and then gets upset bc there’s no one to throw snow at!! Needle IS Jon!! Arya’s list is her own prayer for her siblings, she doesn’t care that Joffrey is dead bc Robb is too!! Every single one of them believes that their big brother will come to save them!! there’s sm love and tenderness there and GOT missed out on lots of it bc it tries too hard for the grimdark angle without realising that the center of the stark’s story is their love for each other. anyways.

i hate the idea of sansa ending up as this cold ice queen when through out the books one of her defining characteristics has been kindness. kindness to dontos when joffrey wanted him executed, kindness to the woman with the baby during the riot, kindness to an injured lancel despite cersei's words, kindness through warning margaery of the type of person joffrey is, kindness to sandor clegane and sweetrobin in the vale. sansa even says that once she was queen, she'd wish to rule with kindness when cersei encourages her to rule with fear during the battle of the blackwater. i cant imagine a world where grrm would genuinely go with the idea that only once you refuse love and warmth can you rule

Another piece in my series of ASOIAf fan art based on medieval illuminated manuscripts. This one was inspired by the Danse Macabre motif and features Melisandre dancing with her shadow assassin/baby. The margins depict a dog, a lion, and Nissa Nissa: the three creatures Azor Ahai sacrificed to create Lightbringer, the sword of heroes.

“When Yoren had dragged her into that alley she’d thought he meant to kill her, but the sour old man had only held her tight, sawing through her mats and tangles with his dagger.
She remembered how the breeze sent the fistfuls of dirty brown hair skittering across the paving stones, toward the sept where her father had died.”

A Game of Thrones
(...) and Sansa… Sansa is your sister. You may be as different as the sun and the moon, but the same blood flows through both your hearts. You need her, as she needs you…

One of my fave minor character in A Dance With Dragons is the guy who’s misogynist to Asha while trying to kill her and then apologizes to her for being sexist. He doesn't apologize for trying to kill her.
Which first of all. Finally someone telling Asha "my condolences about misogyny" I feel like she needed to hear that
Second of all. "I'm sorry for calling you a cunt" is basically Judith Butler levels of feminism for Westerosi men. Stannis was running that crew like the navy

in honor of mother’s day who do you think cat’s fave child is and why is it between bran and robb😭 lmao
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO CATELYN INDEED! 🥹
Catelyn’s favorite child is Bran, but her deepest emotional attachment is to Robb. That distinction matters, because favoritism and attachment aren’t always the same.
Bran is her favorite because of his nature and the particular relationship they shared. He’s curious, gentle, adventurous but not entirely intentionally reckless. He’s something of a dreamer. He’s at that sweet spot in childhood where he’s independent enough to be interesting, but young enough to still need and adore his mother. In the books and show, she’s very attuned to Bran’s experiences and pain, especially after his fall, and she quite literally drops everything for months to stay by his bedside. There’s an intimacy to that vigil, a desperate love that’s both protective and emotional.
But Robb is where her heart is most entangled, because Robb represents duty, legacy, and loss. He’s her firstborn, the child who made her a mother, the one who carries her family’s name and the future of House Stark. She sees so much of herself in him: his sense of responsibility, his pride, his ability to lead with both warmth and will. As the war drags on, her attachment to him deepens into something fierce and consuming. It’s not just maternal but political and existential. He’s not only her son, he’s her hope and her heartbreak. She follows him into war not only because she loves him, but because she believes in him. And then, of course, he dies as she watches. That moment is the culmination of her emotional arc. Everything unravels when she loses him. It’s the end of her world. “If anything befell you, I would go mad, Robb. You are all I have left." It’s so sad and tragic because she actually did. After his death she clawed her face with her bare hands then not long after she became lady stoneheart. Her grief had no language left, so it bled out through wrath.
So while Bran is the child she loved most easily, Robb is the one she died for. One represents the joy of motherhood; the other, the cost.
