South West Rhodes is made of extensive pines forests that descend from the top of the nearby granite mountains all the way to the seaside. The rich vegetation mostly due to the winter rains is the ideal habitat for the island’s fallow deers  (dama dama) well known since the antiquity and thriving in our days in large numbers due to the strict protective laws.Photo by Savvaidis & Associates. Kritinia Gorge is the most spectacular canyon in Rhodes. Just a few kms south to Kritinia village towards Siana and just off the main road this deep ravine extends for more than 1,000 meters uphill. The walls at both side of the gorge are 100 meters high.

It's spring time now for this young cat. Under the warm rays of the Greek sun he enjoys the morning light . Stray cats have always been the prefered pets in the Greek homes, especially in islands like Rhodes.

The bridge of Gadura in South Rhodes, Greece is a fine example of Italian colonial engineering of the prewar era and a familiar landmark of the area. Built in the late ’30s and recently undergone a complete structural maintenance this imposing bridge is a testament to Rhodes not so distant past.

The Mediterranean diet is a heart-healthy eating plan that combines elements of Mediterranean-style cooking found in Spain, Italy and Greece.
The basic elements of the diet are fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, olive oil, garlic, fish and wine in moderate quantities.
Fish consumption provides followers with a large source of Omega-3 fatty acids preventing incidents of heart disease, stroke and even some cancers.

Nearly a century ago the italians that occupied the island of Rhodes founded Kolymbia, a farmers' village. The main feature of the village (not more than a dozen of houses around the olive groves) was a clock tower and the road of eucalyptus that heads directly to sea. Today the trees provide a spectacular arch of exactly 2,000 meters length!

Rhodes is one of the few islands in the Aegean with generous supplies of water all year round. Fasuli Springs near Psinthos Village are the natural habitat of Gizani (Ladigesocypris ghigii) a small endemic fish.Gizani is a lilliputian champion of survival, since it manages to live in the extremely unstable environment of the streams of Rhodes, which may flood during winter, but they dry up for most of their length during the dry season. Symi, the colorful island
At less than 30 nm from Rhodes, Symi island (Σύμη) is a magic destination. Symi is perhaps the most beautiful Greek island. The dry landscape has a rugged charm - reddy-brown hills beneath a baking sun. Symi harbor - Gialos - is literally breathtaking. The Kali Strata, stairs leading to the main village is lined with ruined Venetian-style houses, many of which were damaged during the war. Chorio is a maze of old streets full of churches.
