I feel like this belongs here too, for anyone who needs the reminder. Do it scared. Do it shaky & soft.
Feel the fear, but don’t collapse under its weight.
I can do it, even if that must be with my hands shaking & my voice soft.
(repeating this in my head. currently making an effort to self-advocate at school over a Problematic teacher...a first. and it’s terrifying, but I want other students + next students to not have to deal with this & not be taught factually incorrect BS.)

I am not responsible for my parents. I am not /their/ parent.
source: me (in the tags of a post I reblogged)
(because I still sometimes feel like my parents’ dad but they were supposed to be my parents)

“If they hurt you, and you look sad or hurt, that (and their guilt) is the consequence of their actions. They shouldn’t put their guilt on you; it’s theirs to hold and deal with.”
(this is exactly how she said it; I still count it as an affirmation & just change second to first person to say it to myself)

“You don’t have to think up all the reasons they could’ve had and forgive them preemptively, before they even come to you to apologize. You could ask them, or you could remove them from your life, but you’re not responsible for figuring out why they did that.”
(this still counts; to say it about yourself you can change the it to “i” but like. this is exactly what she said, & I love quoting them)

“I am always doing my best. My best is not ‘what I can do 10% of the time’ times 100% of the time; my best is what I do get done. If I made an effort at all, it was my best effort. I did what was within my capacity to do.”

“It is up to other people whether I meet their standards, and I will not force myself into a box to do so. People will choose to come and go based on their standards, their needs, and their desires. Some people will choose me and stay.”
