SCAD’s gift of workforce housing for use by citizens of the city of Savannah has a new name: The Lorlee! Our university’s vibrant legacy of community service was shared by my dear friend Lorlee Tenenbaum (1935–2020), who lived a life of altruism and action. A pillar of the Savannah community, compassionate philanthropist, and SCAD honorary degree recipient, Lorlee committed herself to helping those in need and beautifying the world around her. Lorlee loved fiercely, gave generously, and blessed my life and the lives of every SCAD student through her devotion to art, her discerning eye for design, and her everlasting support of SCAD’s mission. Our warmest and proudest congratulations to Professor Jeff Eley on his 40th SCAD anniversary! Since 1983, Jeff has immeasurably enlightened and edified the SCAD community. As an architectural history professor and an expert on the art and architecture of 18th- and 19th-century Savannah, Jeff is certainly one of the most interesting people I know. (Walk around Savannah with him for a day and you’ll see what I mean!) ⁠ Countless SCAD students and alumni have benefited from his vast knowledge, engaged teaching, and caring guidance. He led students on numerous study abroad trips, giving them memories for a lifetime. In addition to teaching, Jeff has served SCAD in leadership roles and authored several books, including contributing to SCAD: The Architecture of a University. SCAD turns up the wattage to help Miami Beach shine even brighter at this year’s Design Miami/, the elite design fair of the Americas, where all eyes were on the spectacular work of SCAD alumni at our Design Miami/ activation—a historic collab for SCAD and Cerámica Suro, the preeminent ceramics studio based in Guadalajara, Mexico. On Day Two of the fair, I hosted a conversation with José Noé Suro, a ceramics legend (and SCAD dad), along with three Bees who designed ceramic tiles and furnishings for the exhibition.
