my toxic tennis fan trait is that I fully condone racket smashing and I think players should do it more actually

Tennis god should draw Halle 2025 champion and Queen’s 2025 champion in the same quarter in the upcoming wimby, just for fun.

If I may add to anons point about jack’s behaviour I might gently point out that I think we are all far too forgiving of players (men) when they have violent displays like this. Everyone gets frustrated in life but that type of outburst is usually only comes from awful trauma (grief and horrible experiences) and it is just a tennis match. I like Jack, and he is in no way the only one who behaves like this, but I do feel he and other male players are seriously emotionally immature and emotionally dis-regulated, and commentators/ stans let them get away with this kind of behaviour too much IMO. In any other workplace you would never be allowed to insult/ abuse other staff or destroy equipment.
I do kinda agree with this. There are other players who manage to compete to the highest level without doing it, and seeing as Rafa is one of Jack’s idols you’d hope his attitude would have been shared.
However it’s still a personal thing. 🤷🏻♀️
Jack’s his own boss. He has to deal with the fines, any backlash from his team, sponsors, etc. yes it’s only a tennis match to us. But it’s his life, job and his obsession.
I feel like his grit, determination, hunger, competitive spirit and fight are the qualities which set him apart from a lot of the other top players right now. If that sometimes spills over into an emotional release of anger I’m not bothered. To me it proves how much he wants it, and that only makes me believe in him more.
Everyone will have opinions on it, but the fact this is the new discussion and no one’s now discussing his lack of fitness and stamina just goes to show how far he’s developed in a year. People will be picking holes in him for life. He could be called an emotionless robot, told he has adhd and a lack of focus, isn’t talented enough… there’s always something for every player.

Have you ever seen Jack smash his racket into an advertising board like today, to the point where he actually injured himself and started bleeding? And yelling “fuck” towards his box? I’ve been a fan of Jack since last fall, and I’ve honestly never seen him this angry or aggressive before. I found today really shocking.
To be honest, I’m less worried about his tennis and more concerned about where he’s at mentally. I’ve seen him break rackets before, but never like this—smashing a board and injuring himself in the process. Is something going on with him?
I read in his interview that he had tonsillitis, and maybe the poor physical condition combined with the frustration of getting broken service game in such a crucial moment pushed him over the edge. I really care about Jack, but since the clay season, I’ve noticed some signs—like yelling “wake up” during the match with Fokina, getting overly emotional after losing the first set in Madrid final, and smashing his racket on the court in Rome.
These moments are starting to make it hard to enjoy watching his matches... I didn’t see this side of him last year or even earlier this year. But since breaking into the top 10, it feels like something’s shifted in him.
What do you think?
He’s always had the racket smash in his locker. He’s said in interviews as a 13/14/15 year old that he’s always been angry on court. Have to say this is the first time I’ve seen him hurt himself in the process but I’m not too concerned. He knows he’s not allowed to smash the grass courts, so it’s the advertising boards, his chair, his own bags - whatever’s closest!
I think today was a big combination. Being ill, feeling ill, not playing his best all week, then playing a bit better but losing it at the last hurdle in a match he, rightly, believed he could win. It being Queens - a tournament he’s said he wants to win from the v early days. Also having played well all year and then not being able to find that level when you want it most must be incredibly frustrating. Plus it was a semi-final!
He’s also always been one to shout at himself on court. Previously when he starts with the c’mons it actually works and he does play better, but more recently he’s done it in the stressful moments over the flat ones and it can result in him pushing too hard on his first serve.
I think he’ll settle down with it in time. He’s got to this top ranking very quickly and it’ll be a lot to process and get used to. It’s a new pressure of being the favourite not the underdog, and shortly having a lot to defend points wise. It’s a big learning curve. But his team will help.
Also don’t forget that most of his team are ex-Murray camp and will be used to way worse in terms of abuse coming from the court during the matches. They won’t mind!
Jack’s a good guy. He knows what’s important. He’ll be alright. This is just one of those periods of change to navigate and learn through. Give him time and patience.
It’s what I’ve always said regarding his physicality. He’s put the work in there in record time. Now that’s solid he can work on other areas too.

I feel for jack he’s getting cooked for that racket smash. It was bad okay but some people are insinuating that he is violent towards people in his private life which eww what disgusting conclusions to jump to.
The double standards are just crazy towards Jack. I saw certain players who have done even more horribly but I never saw such personal insults towards them.
