Same. I'm a total introvert, but I miss HANGING AROUND PEOPLE. Lol.

I've gotten back into gaming, been playing A LOT of Skyrim recently. Got to camping for the first time in a year with some friends, and it's rekindled my wanderlust. I'm retrofitting my SUV into a personal camper for me and my one dog.

Welcome to my chaos!! Haha. My blog is a bit slow currently thanks to the global panini and work, but I've been slowly getting back into it.

I don't have any for Star Trek, but I 100% have a HP OC.

Kestrel Morgan-Black. She's from an old fic I'd started ages!! ago, but she's evolved a lot over the years, from a very stereotypical "Sirius missing kid" to what she is now in my Neo-Marauder series. Where Harry, Neville, and Kestrel were raised by their fathers outside Britain, and only come back because they wanted to go to Hogwarts like their parents.

I actually have two iterations of this universe. One where they start in first year and go through everything. And another where they come in 4th year. The second one is much darker and more adult-ish themes.

Kestrel is very sarcastic child, as anyone raised by Marauders would be, she's also very studious and kind hearted, but can be extremely petty, and doesn't take shit from anyone, including her "brothers", haha.

She's closer to Neville than Harry, as her and Harry can both be very hard headed and stubborn with things they feel strongly about.

Reminder that Stonewall wasn’t about marriage equality. Stonewall was about police brutality. It was about systemic abuse and subordination. Stonewall was spearheaded by black trans women. As we celebrate Pride 2020, within the context of the Black Lives Matter riots, it’s imperative that we remember that.

Riots in protest of police brutality are the reason that we have more rights today. Do not forget your roots.

You can’t celebrate Pride while simultaneously condemning the Black Lives Matter riots and protests that are happening right now. Know your history.

Happy Worldbuilding Wednesday! Let's talk about communication. What are the most common ways for folks to stay in touch with each other? What are some Uncommon ones?

In Illidan the most common way to stay in touch is letter writing or sending courier messages. People send messages and letter by courier on the daily, from little notes to family and friends to company creating ( or destroying) contracts.

The courier service is always busy, and always looking for new hires. The turn around is very quick as not many people can keep up with the demands of the business. Letters are delivered on foot if local and by mounts depending on location. The most common being horses or Elhorn.

Unusual forms of communication are fire and wind speaking used most commonly by the Order Mages. Another is the dream-walking of the Runija Wild-Mages.

Happy Worldbuilding Wednesday! Tell us about stories. What kinds of stories do the people in your world tell each other? What medium do they most use: song, poems, television, holograms, shared dreams? What value do they have in society? A means of entertainment, a way to keep history, cautionary tales? How are the storytellers, what tales do they tell?

Oral history is a huge thing in Illidan. Stories are passed down from family to family, clan to clan in both Runija and the among the People of the Green (Rhoeline).

The country of Arias values written word over spoken, seeing it as a sign of a more refined and advanced society.

Stories after used as everything, fables, a record of history, entertainment.

Jesters, Bards, and Storydancers travel far and wide spreading tale and songs from other countries and used to be a favoured treat at court in Arias, but have since fallen out of favour in King Asher's rule. Who believes them to be a key part in the rebellion against him.

Happy Worldbuilding Wednesday! It's time to talk about rules :P What are some of the things that constrain people in your world. Laws of magic, laws of society, laws of physics--whatever applies to your WIP. What are some of the rules that your folks have to work with? And what are some of the ways they can be broken?

Ooo! I love questions like this!

Illidan is an earth like world, in that it has gravity, an atmosphere, seasons, physics, etc.

Most of these can be combated with the magic that is inherent in every corner of Illidan. Be it by the Mages of the Order, the Wild Mages of Runija, or the Drakewytchs.

There are of course limitations to what can be done and by who, for instance an Air Drakewytch can fly if they're daring and crazy enough, and with enough practice and no small amount of natural talent. A powerful Order Mage, could combine different Magics, say earth and fire, to create or even control a lava flow.

Any one on Illidan who can use magic are limited by their on innate ability and daring, though with sufficient motivation, and usually at the cost of their lives, magic wielders have been known to be capable of extraordinary feats of destruction or creation.

The Mages of the Order have used their control over the 10 Magics to mimic what would pass for science in our world. Elevators that defy gravity, greenhouses that stay warm no matter how cold, tempered glass, thermal heating, sky trains using a mix of Air and Earth Magics, if they can find a way to use the power of the Ley Lines to make lives easier, the Mages will find it.

Now the only ones whom I haven't mentioned are the Wild Mages of Runija. They're connection to the Ley Lines is innate and based on emotions. They can learn to control their connections with great effort and cost, and because they are direct conduits, instead of going through a soul dragon or a combination of special stones and wood like Order Mages, they're abilities often deft every law, though only for short periods and and a greater cost. Most Wild Mages die young, most not living past 50.

“You’re Not a Good Writer.”

I once received a DM comprised of just that sentence. Nothing else. No constructive criticism or any reason as to why this person clearly agreed with my own view of myself.

For someone who has never told anyone in their real life that they write anything, reading something like this from an anonymous user only solidified in my mind the fact that this person was right.

I’m not a good writer.

After an embarrassing amount of minutes passed, in which I thought about deleting every story I ever posted, I decided to delete the message instead. Unfortunately, that didn’t mean I could delete the feelings it caused or change the fact that I’m not a good writer.

Two weeks went by and I didn’t write anything, let alone post. Then I received a comment on a story I had posted three years prior, one I’d written after a death in our family. The comment read, “Thank you for sharing this heartfelt story. I really needed this. I just lost my mom and this really got me today.”

I stopped thinking about being a good writer after that. I thought instead, “what if I had deleted my stories and that one person three years later hadn’t read it that day?”

Here’s what I realized: no one is a good writer.

Good means to be approved of, but stories aren’t created from approval. They’re built from life experiences, feelings, and emotions Therefore, the impact of anyone’s story isn’t good or bad. It’s a million other things.

Heartfelt.

Sad.

Funny.

Inspiring.

Romantic.

So to all the story writers out there, hold your head up, write what is in your heart, and never doubt that there isn’t at least one person out there that needs to read your story.

So, no.

We’re not good writers, but why would we want to be?
