important reminder
the truth behind all the ‘’aesthetic’’ studying
i took this after studying for 6 hours, i was exhausted and couldn’t wait to go to bed
your desk will get messy, your notes will get messy, your brain will get messy
you don’t have to be orderly all the time
don’t let yourself be fooled by all the neat photos posted on here

korean study partner?
i’ve been watching kdramas for a long time now and was always reluctant in seriously learning their language bcos it’s gotten “mainstream” but i recently realized it being “mainstream” doesnt degrade it’s advantage to me if I actually learn it well and how much I really want to learn it! so i’m searching for language pals hehe ofc someone who is fluent or maybe even a native. if you’re korean and want to learn filipino, english, or japanese, you can hmu too!!

this is so on point!! i’d add another, (5) while doing daily activities, act like your doing a vlog and tell your viewers about your day / what youre doing in the language youre learning. helps a lot if youre focusing on conversational fluency! makes you realize which casual phrases/words you dont know bcos of your textbooks that only teach you formalities ;))
4 exercises to improve speaking skills in your target language:
Tell a story. It’s a great exercise to improve not only your speaking, but also your grammar and vocabulary. Think about what happened to you or anyone else, that you would talk about to your friends or family. Then tell a story out loud using only your target language. Telling stories is a huge part of our everyday talks, so it’s really important to practice that.
Talk about a book, a movie or whatever you want. Imagine you’re convincing someone to check out (or not to check out) a book you have already read. Review every movie or TV series you want, and don’t worry about spoiling anything or offending someone. If it’s a piece of shit, learn how to say that when talking to Queen Elizabeth II, and how to say that when chatting with someone you’d meet at the bar.
Discuss an important topic that is interesting to you. You can choose from anything: society issues, politics, economics, science, environment, culture… First try to explain it and then tell your own opinion on the subject. It’s different than the second exercise since it develops the specific vocabulary.
Read an article and summarise it. Find an article in your target language that interests you and talk about it. You can do it like you would when asked about it in school, or you can do it in more of a “sharing knowledge with my friends” manner.
Et c’est tout! You can call it “act like a youtuber” exercises. If you want, record yourself while speaking. Remember that work is the key to success.

back to school reminders:
your grades don’t define you
mental health is a priority
not doing some homework assignments isn’t the end of the world
you don’t need a perfect GPA to go to college
apply for scholarships
drama is exhausting; try to avoid it
ask for help when you need it
you aren’t stupid for not knowing everything
not every friend is a real one
teachers aren’t always right
everyone makes mistakes
you can do it

Buon Ferragosto!
Today, august 15th, in Italy (and San Marino) we celebrate Ferragosto! Originally it was celebrated on the 1st of august, but the Catholic Church wanted it to be celebrated on the same day of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, therefore it was moved to the 15th. The name Ferragosto comes from a latin locution feriae Augusti (the rest of Augustus): in fact, this festivity has been established by the Roman Emperor Augustus in the 18 BC, not only to promote himself, but also to connect in a long period of rest, a few different august’s festivities at the end of a long period of intense agricultural labor. In this day, races with horses, oxen and donkeys were organized, and this tradition is still kept: for example, on august 16th, in Siena, there is the famous Palio dell’Assunta (an horse race in which every contrada =city quarter is represented by a horse: the winner takes its banner in the Dome and there will be parties for a week). Also, during the festival, workers greeted their masters, who in return would give them a tip. The custom became so strongly rooted that in the Renaissance it was made compulsory in the Papal States.
On Ferragosto we usually have a one day trip (common since the Fascism days, when the Regime organised hundreds of popular trips at discounted prices also for the less wealthy people), if it’s not a day included in the summer vacations; we celebrate with parties and games (especially on the beaches: very common is throwing gavettoni =water balloons to everyone), but also big lunches (mostly barbecues, but also other foods are prepared for the occasion) - whenever the weather let us.
Buona giornata!
Read the 10 curiosities about Ferragosto here (only ITA - you can ask for a translation though)

“If a person can’t get out of bed, something is making them exhausted. If a student isn’t writing papers, there’s some aspect of the assignment that they can’t do without help. If an employee misses deadlines constantly, something is making organization and deadline-meeting difficult. Even if a person is actively choosing to self-sabotage, there’s a reason for it — some fear they’re working through, some need not being met, a lack of self-esteem being expressed. People do not choose to fail or disappoint. No one wants to feel incapable, apathetic, or ineffective. If you look at a person’s action (or inaction) and see only laziness, you are missing key details. There is always an explanation. There are always barriers. Just because you can’t see them, or don’t view them as legitimate, doesn’t mean they’re not there. Look harder. Maybe you weren’t always able to look at human behavior this way. That’s okay. Now you are. Give it a try.”
—
— “Laziness Does Not Exist” by E Price on Medium
(And a footnote I didn’t see explicitly covered in the article: laziness still doesn’t exist when it is you yourself making no progress and not knowing why. You deserve that respect and consideration, too, even from yourself.)
