Idea 3 - Kaz has the most stressful boat ride of his life

Wrong time wrong place Jordie happened to be on the pier the night the schooner left port (and the crows got ambushed), Spect’s crew found jordie hiding when they were looking for witnesses/hostages like Oomen.

jordie watches Brekker tear out a persons eye ball and feels his heart squeeze into his throat as he tries to figure out how to explain to the bloody barrel boss “I’m just a guy, who happened to be here”

What saves him here (because I doubt kaz would have the situational awareness while he’s tweaking, to realize that this is his brother) is that jordie is a licensed doctor, and can actually save Inej

But!!! Making a story after the canon events in the books requires planning- and setting, and plot-! And i do not have the creative talent for such things

however!! Let me present these!!

Idea 1 - Matthias doesn’t get to die

Jordie is currently studying medicine at Ketterdam University during the events of Crooked Kingdom and like any sensible civilian he ran like hell when the plague bells chimed

he paused in an alley to hide away from the crowd and over hears an altercation between what seems to be a deserter and a druskelle

After a small moral debate he decided that he’s not just going to pretend like he doesn’t see the shot man dying on the cobblestones, and moves to help

Idea 2 - Can’t a guy just mourn in peace?

jordie was visiting Black Vail, sitting on the bench dedicated to the souls that were not buried, sharing a hot chocolate with a ghost (you know, mourning, as you do)

when this panicked, loudly dressed, gangly man asked if he was a doctor- without an an excuse ready to NOT follow the stranger, jordie finds himself tasked with delivering a child

and kaz sees the consequences of kidnapping a heavily pregnant woman

Inej strikes me as a Wine Aunt? But,, she doesn’t drink. On the other hand she would absolutely have two cat children, travel the world so often you never know what country she’s in, and receive a fat check for your birthday (and missed birthdays) four months late

It’s a Jordie lives au where they both stick together in Ketterdam after the plague. Jordie takes on the role of Dirtyhands and sends kaz to university to study.

What fascinated me the most is Jordie and Kaz’s view of their PTSD, where Dirthands Kaz saw it as a weakness, something that must be hidden, a deep shame. And Dirtyhands jordie ignored its presence, unintentionally triggering episodes by running recklessly headfirst, and not even thinking twice before diving into the water… his fears always took a back seat for the job, his crew, or his family. (Kaz would do this too, but it was always a last resort. Jordie seemed to make it a weekend out of it)

jordie lives au but this time the brothers didn’t know each other were alive for the drama

I’ve Frankensteined a headcannon for Jordies childhood via several writers and my own grey matter

Starting with “How odd is it to be haunted by someone that is still alive” by Formulex

-Jordie doesn’t drown, he gets washed away to a further port

from there similar to Kaz, jordie had to survive on his own for a while

then, pulling from another fanfic “A Guest Worthy to be Here” by endoftheworldhere

-Jordie gets placed into Ketterdam Child Services, essentially legal child indentures, where he has to work in a Textile Mill to pay off the Kerch government for taking him in

He works there until he’s 18 and finally can work towards freeing himself of his brothers ghost

Pulling from “The Paradox of Chance” by ofcatsanddragons, jordie seeks forgiveness by becoming a Doctor, once he can cure the sick- maybe his brothers soul could finally rest

he obtains his GED, and bachelors out in Blendit, then sets his sights on Ketterdam University for his Doctorate

I had imagined his nightmares were more centered around drowning than touch itself

leaning towards a fear of suffocation

and nightmare kaz is hardly angry,,, just a manifestation of Jordies guilt- he reminds Jordies of all the broken promises he’s made

There’s currently five chapters when I read it, chewing through the story like a rabid dog

but this story has idea BONES! Bones that I like

the gist is that jordie becomes a doctor because he’s haunted by the (alleged) death of his little brother, and returns to Katterdam to study at the university

I enjoy the foil of how jordie and kaz would respond to grief, Kaz becoming a monster to slay other monsters (blaming Rollins) , and jordie becoming a doctor to cure plagues (blaming the queen’s lace)

In regards to your Jordie lives AU, how do you think Kaz and Jordie's relationship would change after getting their revenge on Pekka?

they were actually brothers again…

jordie helped kaz and vice versa, as kaz was piecing himself back together for Inej.

This involved going back to the farm, and fixing it up. (And using the secluded space to take of their respective armors and finally talk. Really talk. For the first time in years)

Kaz will go on to prepare this place like any other safe house. But a safe house he returns to in the spring to renovate and slowly turn back into a home again. (Maybe with a couple suli touches for when he eventually gathers the balls to invite a certain someone back here)

as for the future I think jordie would go back to school- some reason I’d always imagined he’d either be a librarian or a teacher end game…. Something surrounded by books

Kaz is ultimately more superstitious than he lets on, and he isn’t going to hang around for shit to hit the fan. Noises in the night? Dolls moving on their own? Writing on mirrors? Fuck that. He’s out and gone. Weather it a run or a walk, he’s not sticking around thanks.

I’d had imagined it’d be the same for horror movies too- he’d rather die than admit to a living soul that he can’t stand the things. Especially ghost flicks (I wonder why). But he’s man enough to decide for himself he already has enough trauma and nightmares for his sick mind to work with, it doesn’t need further inspiration to haunt him with.

Inej is a very impulsive fighter, she strikes fast and deadly. If in paranormal happenings she’d stick around and likely survive. Using her common sense and sick combat skills. She might enjoy the occasional horror movie with friends, but I don’t think she’d watch it unprompted.

Nina would do every wrong thing in a paranormal scenario and some how live. She enjoys horror movies if only as a excuse to snuggle up to her fjerdan. If he’d ever watch one.

Mattias knows all the signs of paranormal stuff, and he does all the things to avoid them, salt, chalk, blessed tree water. He’d survive in a paranormal scenario because he believes in them. He doesn’t like horror movies, if only because he turns up his nose to them. For religious reasons, not indulging unholy or sac religious reproductions as part of his beliefs. everyone makes fun of him for this, but he doesn’t budge.

wylan would freeze. He might survive? If only because he just- stayed in one spot and refused to tempt fate. He doesn’t know what’s happening and has zero drive to find out. Wylan might enjoy horror movies himself. Especially ones that are based on real stories or legends.

Jesper would probably die lol. He’d do everything wrong and panic in the worst moments, ‘is this how we die???’ He’d watch horror movies because wylan likes them, and would get the get the piss scared out of him the whole time.

Weapon of choice: a Scythe

Because it’s a wheat farm, and because of its symbolism for death~

I actually think this would be a scene he’d sit back for…. Maybe even move on. Seeing his brother being his brother whole and open, for the first time in 8 years

I kinda already covered this one with the “greeting the newly dead’s” post

I’m just saying that I’m supremely disappointed in this fandom for the absolute lack of Kaz & Jordie art- don’t get me wrong, there’s a few & all of them beautiful/heart wrenching. BUT I NEED MORE Jordie + Kaz. Happy them pre-Ketterdam. Tragic them in Ketterdam. ALL.
