My thoughts about Mu Qing
Mu Qing is someone who tries to always see the bigger picture. He thinks of the future instead of being stuck in the present. This is kind of the result of being able to emotionally detach himself from the situation and rationally evaluate his surroundings. He sees the problem and has his own ideas about how to solve it, yet he lacks the communication to actually voice it, so he is stuck in a situation where he sees the light at the end of the tunnel but they are currently stuck in the mud in the middle of it. He wants to go after the light, because he sees a bit more than the other two, while Xie Lian and Feng Xin only focus on the current task: get out of the mud. Since Mu Qing doesn’t say anything about the light, that he sees the end of it all, they just see him run off on his own with cheap excuses and when he brings back something that can help them get out, they push him away for that very reason.
His communication is likely the result of his lack of trust in people: he grew up in a poor household and with peasants, noone knew who would betray them the next moment, who would rob them; so he keeps to himself. He thinks that XL only extended a hand to him (to become his personal attendant) because he pitied him/wanted to show off how holy he is, not knowing, not believing that XL didn’t have any ulterior motives. He truly does feel inferior to people and that kinda became a complex for him. (Always just nodding to Xie Lian, accepting what he wants to do; and notice how in any of his arguments with Feng Xin, he can never get the last word, even 800 years later.)
He doubts not only himself, but everyone around him. He makes decisions that even he himself regrets. Walking away from Xie Lian, he regretted it later. Letting Xie Lian walk away, he regretted. He tried to reach out both times, but he was already too late. People keep judging him for who he really is without giving him a chance to explain anything and he feels like they either wouldn’t listen to wouldn’t understand or that they already know but are mocking him.
He left truly with the intention of taking care of his mother. But there could have been two things that happened. 1, His mother died and he had no more reason to stay back there, but was afraid of what would happen, should he go back to Xie Lian and Feng Xin, so he accepted to be a Lower Court official and decided to watch over them from afar. 2, He had the intention of trying to take care of both his friends and his mother at the same time, while trying to not be found out to be helping out mortals. As soon as he left, he instantly accepted the position of a Lower Court official and has been watching them for long. Him giving supplies to them is what Xie Lian did back in Xian Le, the exact thing that he got banished for, yet Mu Qing still risked going back to them and giving them food and medicine. He knew he was wrong, and - as the book also stressed on it - apologizes for the first time.
“Why when it comes to me, you can’t accept it?”
He really feels like it’s only him, being inferior, that they can’t accept and they can’t understand his motives. While Feng Xin feels like Mu Qing betrayed them, he really just didn’t communicate it and he truly believes that he did what is right for them all, but doesn’t bother explaining it to the other two who are still stuck in the mud and not bothering to look up and ahead.
Also there is the case of the clashing personalities: In MBTI personality tests, it shows us that our Nature can be of two types. Nature represents how we make decisions and decide to cope with our emotions. The two large types are Thinking and Feeling. Thinking is observant mindset, who are able to detach themselves from the situation and perceive it before making a decision; they don’t keep their words soft just in case they hurt someone’s feelings: they always say what is on their mind, because for them it seems logical. Feeling is the more emotional mindset. People like this don’t want to see a big picture sometimes and are prone to mostly focus on finding a solution that keeps everyone in a good mood. They usually soften their words and take into consideration how people would react if they said anything harsh.
Both Xie Lian and Feng Xin belong to Feeling while Mu Qing is Thinking, and this is also one of the reasons why they might find it so hard to understand each other.

I’m finally going to transition. I’ve had enough of this body I hate. If you can spare some change for my first visit to the clinic, I’d be very grateful.

Ok but Zuko using the knowledge he acquired during his banishment to help him as the Fire Lord. Like making small talk with Earth Kingdom dignitaries about their local foods that he enjoyed and even misses. Like having in-depth conversations with his captains about sea currents and navigation. Like, in the middle of a meeting with several high-ranking naval officials, pointing out flails in security, like how a person can cling to a Fire Nation ship for hours at a time, or climb aboard using hatches on the upper decks, or disguise themselves as a lower ranking guard with easily accessible spare armour….
Though none of his experiences can prepare Zuko for the long, awkward silence that comes after he admits to doing or at least knowing something illegal and/or completely buck wild

so women are supposed to grin and bear the books, the comics, the movies, the plays, the tv shows, the stories, the sci-fi, the translated ancient poems, the fucking millennia of men writing about their self inserts torturing women and it being declared as High Art by other men, we’re supposed to read it in our free time, study it in classrooms, include their styles in our own writing, accept their cultural influence as natural, watch it in the cinema, write about it, talk about it, accept it, aspire it, but men can’t tolerate three seconds of female wish fulfilment of a woman snapping the wrist of a creep without feeling personally kicked in the balls.
