Darlingtonia Californica pitcher severed by snails; so I took the opportunity to dissect the hood in order to photograph a rarely-seen feature of this species of American Pitcher Plant. The hood appears to be perforated with many holes and would seem an easy escape for most small insects at first glance. However; scroll to see the cross-section illustrating the smooth, translucent, and waxy interior surface of the pitcher.
