Note
I hope I am not disturbing you, but could you pick up the translation of “Hi izuru tokoro no tenshi” by Ryouko Yamagishi from where the previous translators stopped (aka volume 4 chapter 14) and translate “Ao no jidai” from the same author given that you’ve translated her other works, please?
Hello!
As a matter of fact, @rosegardenscans picked up TokoroTen and started redoing it from scratch with better scans and a more nuanced translation. I'd rather wait for our translator Salomé there, as she is also very knowledgeable about Japanese history and culture and would this work justice.
And everyone involved with the group has self-control and is part of 47368 other scanlation projects. I am very serious about this. So at Seldom, we usually try sticking to oneshots/single-volume works because we can't see ourselves committed to anything longer, and don't want to add to the "unfinished scanlations" pile.
But I can guarantee that we will be doing more Yamagishi one shots. I love her!

New Pick! - Kamu's Yamabiko (2013)
Tumblr media
After wrapping up Toy Doll, we are jumping back to 21st century and bringing you a lovely, supernatural josei work. It's Yamabiko by Kamu, an artist who debuted after winning ITAN's newcomer award.
These short stories were all published in the same magazine, except for the title story, which is book-exclusive.
Enjoy the first story, The King and the Witch!

Yamagishi Ryoko-Seraphim (1977)
Tumblr media
Clean version of the color double spread because it's too beautiful.
This week, we bring you a beautiful family story by Yamagishi Ryoko. 愛天使 (セラピム) - Aitenshi (Seraphim)was published in LaLa's 1977 March issue, and these scans come from her collection of stories published in the same year, Siren (セイレーン). Since @plats-chat scanned it for us, you can expect the other stories some time!
We are starting with Seraphim, because Cice happened to have the artwork for the beautiful color pages for Seraphim, so we wanted to do this story first.

Angel's Cocoon by Sato Shio (1979)
Tumblr media
We proudly present you a work by the late Sato Shio, an artist who is part of the Post Year 24 Group. I think her frequenting the Oizumi Salon and working as an assistant to Hagio and Takemiya complicates things, and you can see some sources list her among the Y24 members too. If you want to learn more about her, see Masami Toku, "Profile and Interview with Shio Sato," in International Perspectives on Shojo and Shojo Manga: The Influence of Girl Culture, ed. Masami Toku (Routledge, 2015), 220-225.
Her works mostly have sci-fi/psychological elements, and from what little I have read (3 one shots in total), are intellectually engaging.
If you were alive in 1996 and into shoujo manga, you had the chance to get her only existing work in English in Four Shojo Stories. Or you can take a trip to your usual old manga aggregator site of choice, or IA.
Good news is that you can peruse the awesome book this oneshot was originally published in and where our scans come from on IA thanks to @plats-chat. We were lucky that Sato's pages weren't eaten by bugs.
This release was made possible by phuji, platypus and shielshi losing themselves in the philosophical labyrinth that was this manga.
DDL MangaDex
We are uploading it under her digitally available volume, Datenraku on MD, because that will be a point of reference for people who wants to buy her works.

Tumblr media
On this fine Saturday, we proudly bring you an amazing philosophical SF work by Takemiya: When the Night is Silent (1978).
Feast your eyes on this glorious double spread:

Thank @plats-chat's BW coins and the Vienna choir boys that broke Takemiya during that one European trip.

Cats and milk and Ooshima
This time, I got an @ from @royalgardensnake, and saw this cute little "illustrated poem" by Ooshima Yumiko that @jariten posted. It's like a little bonus to Star of Cottonland. Thanks to the Seldom crew, we bring you 4 pages of cuteness. As always, have DDL and MangaDex available for a wider reach.

Hatsu Akiko from June: Daybreak City Blues (1982)
Tumblr media
When I see a wild Hatsu Akiko appearance in June, I feel obligated to let more people know.
This little, dramatic work was first published in issue #4 of June in 1982, and was later compiled in B-Kyuu Paradise! (B級パラダイス, 1985). The said compilation book with Daybreak City Blues in it was later digitalized (with some additions), and can be found on Japanese e-book retailers.
But of course, the non-grayscaled, color version @bishonenspit gracefully provided us with is much nicer.
Enjoy handsome Hatsu men in suits.
