I have a question for the fanfic writers among you: How do you treat your work in progress when a very similar story is put out there? Do you go on writing - in the spirit that everything is unique in its own way - or do you abandon the piece - in the spirit of preventing 'superfluous' contributions?
Let's add a further wrench into the process by saying the recently published work by another author, so similar to your own, seems so much better written than your own (granted we are always our own worst critics). Where do you go with that?
Maybe this is a question for readers, too. Do you mind reading similar works/story lines?
anyway the actual point of fandom is to inspire each other. reading each other's fics and admiring each other's art and saying wow i love this and i feel something and i want to invoke this in other people, i want to write a sentence that feels like a meteor shower, i want to paint a kiss with such tenderness it makes you ache, i want to create something that someone else somewhere will see it and think oh, i need to do that too, right now. i am embracing being a corny cunt on main to say inspiring each other is one of the things humanity is best at and one of the things fandom is built for and i think that's beautiful
"I'd always felt lonely, even before. This was a new feeling, like.. a terror, that I'd always be alone now. And then, as I got older, that feeling just solidified. Just a knot, here, all the time. And then losing them, it just got tangled up with all the other stuff about being gay, and just feeling like the future doesn't matter. Does that make sense?"
anyway. as glad as I am that all the HP business is reminding people to boycott F1 sponsors on the BDS boycott list(*). god knows there's no such thing as an ethical F1 sponsor. Big Oil Vroom Vroom is about as morally bankrupt as sports get. bootleg merchandise save me. aliexpress my beloved. etc etc
(*) reminder that Puma also sponsors Merc & Williams as well as Ferrari + too many sports teams to list; luckily they are all on their website.
Yes! This is how I say it too (less of a "gah" sound like the poll said and more of a short A sound like galaxy). I guess because there aren't really any words that start with a "ga" but have a soft g, so it just seems weird to say it that way. Poor George, lol. Only contributing one letter to the ship name, and we don't even say it right!
