Thinking about Weapons’ take on the roles children absorb in the suburban gothic genre. Kids being on the frontlines of hostile spaces either serving as a silent index of trauma orrr simply getting walled up into the infrastructure supposedly built to protect them

It reminds me so much of the Haunting of Hill House and the idea of a house or neighborhood being “born bad.” In this setting, empty suburban hellscapes where the village that’s supposed to be raising the children is using them as insulation and an illusion of warmth and community

The visual cues and literal forest for the trees moments are so good too; Archer, a home developer, staring at a housing development map trying to figure out what could’ve swallowed his kid whole. And of course the children bursting through windows, ripping down fences and literally tearing up the facade, and gladys.
