Crutzen, Nobel Prize winner, and several other leading scientists came up with this proposal and announced that the annual UN conference. Crutzen said that he intended to surprise the policymakers, and hopefully get to take more positive action on the issue of global warming. During the last century global temperatures have risen 1 degree Fahrenheit, and this proposal is supposed to help counter this climate change.However, this aroused great interest, and what research is being done now to see if this can function without side effects. A U.S. government climatologist, Tom Wigley ran scenarios in a computer model and said that if an estimated 10 million tons of sulfur was injected into the stratosphere, then actually cool the Earth for about a year . Many of their results and the numbers are based on the volcanic eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991. Wigley said the rash enough spilled sulfur into the stratosphere that cooled the Earth by about 0.9 degrees Celsius over a year. In addition, NASA is in the process of doing research in the Ames Research Center to work on various proposals to help combat global warming. Although this is not intended as a long-term, scientists are saying that it would provide a temporary shield until the political leaders could find a way to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, which is the main source of greenhouse gases.
