I’ve always found the lifecycle in aliens to be really cool, and I wish it was used in fiction more. The real life variations that plants take with their multiple adult forms should be explored more in fictional creatures. Other places to see my posts: INSTAGRAM / FACEBOOK / ETSY / KICKSTARTER

aren't you usually expected to follow/otherwise interact with somebody before you strike up random conversation?? there's a reason there's the "only from people you follow" button on message options
So I just saw a post by a random personal blog that said “don’t follow me if we never even had a conversation before” and?????? Not to be rude but literally what the fuck??????????
I’ve had people (non-pornbots) try to strike conversation out of nowhere in my DMs recently, and now I’m wondering if they were doing that because they wanted to follow me and thought they needed to interact first. I feel compelled to say, just in case, that it’s totally okay to follow this blog (or my side blog, for that matter) even if we’ve never talked before.
Also, I’m legit confused. Is this how follow culture works right now? It was worded like it’s common sense but is that really a thing?

@coffee-gardens this is so helpful
#art#artist stuff#art stuff#reference#art reference#color relativity#i like to do an adjusted opacity hue layer#i'm trying to figure out how to do this without relying on layer effects (i'm trying to move away from relying on layer effects in general)#so what ive been doing to practice is overlaying the base color + environment color w a transparent brush#and then colorpicking it to see where the adjusted color is on the color wheel#and then trying to manually adjust colors that direction to create a similar effect

oh yeah this is the blog i mentioned with the wing design info! they also have some great centaurs
Welcome!
This is my side blog for analyzing and correcting professionally designed fantasy anatomy, especially wings. My submissions and ask box are open! I can offer design advice, answer questions about specific anatomy ideas, and provide resources for you to get better at the designs or worldbuilding details you’re working on!
Edit: please keep asks to just a few mid-sized paragraphs at most, like three paragraphs. If you just want to info dump, post it to your own tumblr and I’ll reblog it if I’m tagged. New tag for future info dump reblogs will be #cool stuff.
Keeping your asks shorter makes it easier for me to answer more people, so please be courteous!
commissions are open on my ko-fi page as well.
currently in the process of archiving my blog on Medium in case of tumblr apocalypse maybe eventually occurring. (taking a break from this cuz it’s tedious. But I have at least gotten a lot of posts in the drafts over there)
This blog is not intended to make any independent artist feel bad about their style, technique, or skill level. I’m just tired of looking at professional fantasy art people get paid to make for official purposes like D&D book illustrations and seeing so many horrible anatomy choices for things that are easily fixed just by doing a little basic research on real life creatures.
I am not a paid professional, but I’ve got years of self taught art and college art classes and I have a serious passion for thoughtfully designed wings and functional fantasy anatomy.
I may occasionally post my own work in fantasy anatomy and speculative evolution.
My main blog is @miss-m-winks.
More details about the fantasy story I’m writing can be found at @memento-morianon
I tag by source and creature name as well as post theme like wing analysis or redesign process.
This blog is also (mostly) screen reader accessible! Yes, it makes all my posts a lot longer, and yes the purpose of this blog is primarily to point out flaws in visual art for the sake of other artists who may be trying to learn from my posts. But I’m going to do my best to make it accessible to everyone. **sometimes i forget or do not have the spoons to do full image descriptions, especially when reblogging other people’s posts.
I also reblog other people’s tutorials sometimes with the tag #outside resources, so check that out.
Masterpost links under the cut:

Jet for @coffee-gardens
i didn't have time to participate in artfight proper, but consider yourself attacked :D
#my art#digital art#other peoples ocs#i rly like your wing design for them#i had a lot of fun doing the outfit here#i tried to keep it coherent so it doesnt just look like two halves stapled together if that makes sense?#so the metal bits (pauldron; belt clip) use the same palette as the half halo#and the belt and armband share with the horn and demon wing#and the flare of the coat/boots crosses the blue parts over the demon half#and the black sleeve and pant leg do the same for the black parts

every time im shown a baby (usually a coworker's) I've learned to coo because it's the expected response but seeing a baby does nothing to my brain. that's a worm who might start screaming. but apparently everyone finds babies cute? is everyone else also pretending or am I the problem ?
#poll#other peoples polls#generally yes#most babies are funny little potatoes#except a few babies i've seen looked like deflated gollums. sorry gollum babies

Can you use high heels as a weapon?
Props to Bayonetta- that was pretty fun!
Outtakes go on Patreon this week!
#videos#blumineck#uhh#high heels#arms&armor mythbusters#feels like fighting with knife heels would be rather painful for both sides of any interaction

Curious about people's reading preferences, reblogs for sample size are very appreciated ❤️
#poll#other peoples polls#prefer print books because you cant lose access to them once youve purchased them lol#also i cannot parse a single thing from audiobooks. same problem as w music lyrics#bc i think with captions so audiobooks with no visible text just get all garbled

🫵 STOP! you are doomscrolling. tell me your favorite animal instead
#on second thought it might be that moth named after Ibun; the super-obscure dwarf that nobody in the Silm fandom really cares much about#the moth is so obscure that I can't find a photo on it on the internet and believe me I tried#<- prev this is an excellent choice of animal#elachista ibunella i believe#Lauri Kaila was really having fun naming those moths in 1999#looking at the wikipedia for elachista moths is really funny#the kaila elachistas from 1998 are all normal looking#and the kaila elachistas from 2000 onwards are the same#so i can only conclude that dr kaila got really really into the narn in 1999 specifically#and named like 40 different elachista moths after various silm/narn characters#and then stopped after one year of this#despite continuing to name moths up to 2012 based on the wikipedia citations#got to be one of the funniest taxonomic situations#as for my fav animal#my top 4 favorites are probably c. elegans; tardigrades; e. chlorotica; t. dohrnii#the leading turritopsis researcher (shin kobuta) who i believe is the only/one of the only people to successfully culture t. dohrnii#wrote and sang a song about t dorhnii#complete with his own turritopsis jellyfish hat

what you learn from hobbies:
consistent practice opens up whole worlds of skill that you couldn't imagine
making mistakes in the process of learning is not only natural, it is also essential
activities that you enjoy can give you more energy back than you spent on them
wow everything is so expensive
