For the Whiners
Anyone whining about using tax payers money for Layton's funeral - It's the least WE could do for someone who devoted his life to the public.

It's taken me a while to properly express how I feel about the loss of Jack Layton. For me Jack represented the last politician standing who represented what it meant to be Canadian. Something that the Liberal party and Conservatives have long forgotten. Jack championed the Canada I knew as a kid. A place where we did what was right, looked after each other and respected our environment. His loss leaves a giant hole on our national political landscape. I hope that we can remember his legacy and have the courage to carry on his and our dreams. I will miss you Jack. Happy trails Bon Jack.

Update
The Shady Doings is coming back!  To be honest the results of the last national election had disturbed me so much I felt like stopping.  I started thinking it wasn't worth me having a medical emergency while being so angered by what is most likely to come with a conservative majority; but that's what they want.  So because I don't want to be one of those people who just rolls over and decides that I can't provoke debate and change I'm going to keep going.  I'm not exactly sure where all this free time for it will come from at the moment, but just know it'll be happening.
Sorry for not posting lately but I will endeavor to correct that very soon.
In other news do we really need to spend all this money on rebranding our military?  I'm sure there's better uses for our tax dollars.
If you have an opinion on it.  I'd love to hear it so drop me a line.

Canadians posting results in their ridings before elections Canada makes it official could pay huge fines or face jail time.
The media and the government need to wake up and realize they no longer have the control they once imposed over our supposedly free society. We no longer need either of you to tell is what we think.

Harper opens his mouth proving once again how out of touch he and his party are. During the closing weeks of the election his big push is that if you vote for a majority Conservative government they will stop Quebec from seperating.
First off the Bloc is currently polling at one of their lowest levels (don't get me wrong they're still popular).
Secondly, aside from making them sign a legally binding document that's not a promise you can enforce.

Dear Canada, We are mere weeks away from an election, and roughly 40% of us are thinking about voting Conservative. Yes, it’s the third election in five years, and you’re tired. Yes, the rhetoric from the different sides of the table sound pretty similar to last time, and the time before. But…
Well said. I just hope people hear you.

Awesome news from the Green Party that makes the decision to ban her seem insignificant in a day and age where you can reach just as many or more people on the net.

Just another example of how broken our system is.

Report on G8 spending won’t be released, Auditor General says The Conservatives defended themselves against allegations an Auditor General investigation had found the government misinformed Parliament on nearly $50-million in funding for projects related to last year’s G8 summit in a Tory Cabinet minister’s Ontario riding. 37 Days: Knockout punches no longer part of debates Short of Michael Ignatieff acknowledging that he really is Just Visiting, or Stephen Harper producing a black book titled ‘Hidden Agenda’ from his blazer pocket, it will be impossible to state that a decisive blow was struck Killing vote subsidy could alter electoral landscape: analysts Behind the principled rhetoric surrounding the debate over $2-a-vote public subsidies for political parties are the parties’ competing self-interests, each with implications for the Canadian electoral landscape Ignatieff’s time outside of Canada is still a problem for voters Chris Selley: Every time there’s a citizenship-related debate in this country, Canadians reliably prove that the Liberals’ expansive, hooray-for-everyone vision of Canadian-ness is far from a consensus

It's been 50 years since we've been able to see the destructive force we've been to our planet. Isn't it time we did something about it?

The Green Party is out because the court says it can not hear the case in time and that other leaders might refuse to attend the debate if she is included forcing the debate to be cancelled. I can only assume that Harper does not want to be made a fool of again by Miss May. It's a sad day for freedom when the PM goes around flaunting his control over the law and our society like a dictator.

So if you're a criminal convicted of fraud it's ok to work for the government, but if you're not a pro conservative it's not ok to attend public rallies? What is happening to my country? Stephen Harper truley is our President George W. Bush.

You'll vote Conservative when you're 40
I'm getting really tired of hearing the argument that when I turn 40 I'll understand more and vote Conservative.  I'm currently 35 and more socialistic in my views than I have ever been.  So the only way that argument even makes sense is if I possibly suffer a blow to the head or start suffering from dementia prematurely.  It'd probably be the only way I could see to making sense to vote for a party that puts something made up like the economy and corporations a head of quality of life and actual citizens.

Uh, gee, ya think?? This country IS left. How the right stays in power is a clear indication of how messed up this electoral system is.
Agreed until we have proper representation of our country nothing will work for the good of society.  It's pretty messed up when 30-ish% of the country rules the other 60-ish%

But to whom are senators responsible, if anyone? How do they decide what positions to support or oppose? They’re appointed by the Prime Minister personally and usually carry his party affiliation but they supposedly serve the country, or so it’s claimed. Do they show their eternal gratitude to this one man, which would make them simple hacks, or have they a higher duty to the public good? This is a genuine choice, and Bill C-393 gave us the pathetic answer when a majority of senators chose to slavishly follow the party line.
How can Conservative senators look at themselves in the mirror? - The Globe and Mail (via maryleong)
So we’ve discussed Bill C-393 before - it simplified access to essential medication for desperately poor people in desperately poor countries, remember?
So yeah, the Senate stalled it until it died, at the government’s behest. Apparently the government was afraid that it would squeeze pharmaceutical companies’ profit margins? By some wacky coincidence outgoing Industry Minister Tony Clement is historically a big-time investor in pharmaceutical companies.
Seriously - not cool at all, senators.
