Found a little friend at the bottom of a giant pile of debris a flood washed in. This raccoon skull has been tumbling around in the creek for quite a while from the looks of it! <3

This is so genuinely, incredibly kind of you, @boneidentification. I am really honored that my post helped inspire you to start your own bone collection and find your passion for IDs. That is just so dang cool!!
And wow, thank you so much for the Ko-fi support!! I have so neglected my poor Ko-fi page but was weirdly enough thinking I should dust it off and work on it again fairly recently so thank you for that!
Coming home to see all this was SUCH an awesome bright spot in my day—I really can't thank you enough. I hope your tomorrow is as lovely as you helped make my today <3

I set up a Ko-Fi account! I love being able to share reference photos and answer your questions about bone cleaning and processing here so if you like this blog and would like to support it please consider buying me a coffee! And certainly no worries at all if you aren’t able to spare anything right now! I’m very grateful for all of you rad people and I thank you all for all the love you’ve shown me over the years <3
#reblog#re: your tag—my skull book is still in the works!!#it's just the longest wip ever now lol#but seriously#i kinda set it aside after my mom died#just didn't have the heart to work on it or much else at the time#and honestly I still struggle with that a bit#but it is still going to get made <3#thank you again <3

Hey folks! My apologies for falling behind on replying to messages and posting. I didn't mean to be gone from here for two weeks but life got kinda crazy there for a bit.
I was sick with a bad cold for a few days and then right after that my poor dad spent ten days in the hospital with a freak infection that nearly cost him his foot if not worse. Not sure if it was a bug bite or what but it started as a tiny black spot on the bottom of his foot and then a few days later he's in the ER with his entire leg fire-red with infection. Thankfully he got there just in time but it was rough. There for a week I was getting about an hour of sleep a day lol.
Anyway, I'll be catching up with messages very soon—thank you for your patience! <3 I have SO much stuff I need to get listed in my shop too. Much to do!
Hope you rad folks are doing okay <3

Found another one!

I find cow and other livestock teeth fairly often down there but horse teeth are pretty rare finds.

Nice chunky old horse tooth I found the other day <3

It's been a while since I posted any new creek finds! There have been a LOT of neat ones lately so instead of my usual small "plate of forbidden snacks" photo layout I just arranged a few of them on a tabletop.
Pictured are: deer skull, deer jawbone, cow teeth, horse tooth, muskrat tooth, deer toe bone, old toy car, a really neat toy boat from the 1970s/80s, an old melted milk glass marble, weird little iron concretion, a cute little yellow tile, nice chonky pieces of bonfire glass, a rainbow of pretty tumbled bits of old pottery, china, and glass, a cow ear tag, and oodles of crinoids, brachiopods, bryozoans, and other neat fossils.
Also found: someone's checkbook (empty), old cellphone (found a couple of those down there lately), Great White "Once Bitten" cassette tape, and Melissa Forney's "Pizzazz: Songs for the Writing Classroom" CD lol.
And there are FOUR special secret finds:

Three bits of uranium glass and an old piece of china that lights up under the black light too.

Few more weird and wonderful things from recent antique store adventures.
I love those neat old chalkware figures—especially the chickens—but they were kinda 'spensive </3

Brood XIV is LOUD. They are loudest in the woods of course but I can still hear their ringing roar in my house even when the windows are closed. Incredible little buggies!

Say hello to Brood XIV!
The calls of these 17 year cicadas are deafening in the woods around my place right now and their little exoskeletons are everywhere you look. Such neat little critters!
It's so cute when a bunch of them decide that the same leaf is the Best Leaf and molt on it together.
#cicadas#insects#bugs#brood xiv#17 year cicadas#wildlife#ive already collected a few hundred exoskeletons and wings for future curios <3

but why do you have a tin full of sneefler?
Everyone needs one! xD
I was working in my garden when I heard my chickens getting after something in their coop. Went over to see what it was and saw that poor lil mole trying to fend them off. I'd been using the tin to mix up flower seeds before sowing them so I just used it to scoop him up and move him away from the chickies.
#asks#words#anonymous#they catch and eat mice sometimes but this guy was putting up too much of a fight haha

I didn't want my other equally fluffy and lovely ladies to feel left out after my last post about Honey Bee so here are the other girls! Moose is the brown Easter Egger, Mink is the lighter Easter Egger with the black tail, Buttercup is the darker yellow Buff Orpington and Honey Bee is the lighter one, and Olivia is the little Booted Bantam.
Little Olivia is still the boss of the babies haha.

This guy also had a weird eyeball. Never seen one with an off-center pupil like this. The other one was normal.

Relocating a lazy man who has been eating eggs instead of the mice in the chicken coop.
I catch mice in the house sometimes and I always let them go in this old woodpile. While he obviously prefers eggs, he should still find plenty of other snacks here lol.
