What happens when I get fee time to combine my chicken hobby with what I do for work? This of course! I wanted to make a little illustrated graphic for my touch-grass hobby. Here I am, living my chocobo rancher dreams IRL.
Been about ten weeks since sweet old Henrietta broke her leg. She still has a little hitch in her giddy-up* but she is healing up so well!! She's still inside on cage rest but I've been letting her out in the yard for the last week or two for supervised outings and to get reacquainted with Foggy and Pearl. They've had a couple little spats through the fence as they reestablish the pecking order but nothing too bad. I'll start putting her cage in the coop during the day soon to help further get everyone comfortable with each other again.
*When Pearl broke her leg back in 2019 it took almost a year before she completely got rid of her limp. She doesn't limp at all anymore and you can't even tell which leg she broke. Henrietta is a larger bird than Pearl, is much older (9 years old!), and her break was a lot worse but still hoping she will get to that point too!
Buff Orpington momma and her babies 🐔🐣 I based this art off the first hens I ever took care of. This as a real ergonomic mouse pad I'm designing. You can get one for yourself in this post's source link 😊
Can I share something a bit non-art related and more about what I’ve been doing while not at my computer? I got into raising chickens this year, and I’m gearing up for a breeding program in the spring for my English type orpingtons. I hatched all of my current birds from eggs and it’s been amazing watching their development. I would love to find more chicken people out there. I love my tiny dinosaurs so much.
Apollo, my smooth collie show dog, has been such a good poultry shepherd.
If you’re ever interested in frequent animal updates from me, I pretty regularly post to tik tok on @quelpaws if you want to find me.
Bought this cute little chicken ornament at Tractor Supply the other day but decided it needed a new paint job—I wanted to make it look like my darling Henrietta! I may paint her name on the sweater, haven't decided yet.
Here’s what it looked like before. I’m gonna work on that bigfoot ornament too and I’m thinking about going back for another one to repaint into a yeti, haha.
