Like literally I check applications for welfare that are sent in, look up the person's name in the citizen database, look up their address, and then request the data about it from the state real estate registry, and if it turns out it is currently being rented out I refuse the application lol. That's so cool kill all landlords forever

I don't think "carcerality" is a coherent framework of analysis and I think saying things like "punishment is Bad" is shortsighted. I think "punitive justice," like "force" or "violence" or "hatred," is a tool which can be used in service of revolutionary causes just as much as they are used for reactionary forces. and I think acting like the concept of "punitive justice" as a tool of control is "tainted" is a moralist quibble which fails to understand that "punitive justice" as liberals understand it is informed by the context of being a tool of the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie. actually it's epic and based when the PRC executes people who steal a bunch of money from workers or hospitals or whatever
