Ohio Connecting Railroad Bridge and the McKee Rocks Bridge The OCR bridge is very long as uses Brunot Island to cross the Ohio River, and when completed its main channel span was the longest simple truss with riveted connections in the country. The bridge is one single bridge however and does not end on the island, instead crossing it via a series of riveted Warren deck truss spans. The spans over the river's main and back channels are massive riveted Pennsylvania truss spans. The double-track bridge replaced an 1890 single track bridge. The new double-track bridge used the 1890 piers, which had been designed to support a two-track bridge, evidence of the railroad company thinking ahead to future expansion. The McKees Rocks Bridge is a complex string of structures stretching nearly 1.5 miles across the wide, flat valley of the Ohio River. The focal point of the group is the 750-foot two-hinged trussed arch river span. Reminiscent of New York's Hell Gate Bridge by Gustav Lindenthal (builder of the Smithfield Street Bridge), the top chord of the arch flattens out to meet the massive stone entrance pylons. Built during a peak in Allegheny County bridge construction, this structure is one of the most self-consciously monumental bridges in the county.聽the river span makes up only 1/10 of the length of this group which is practically a pattern book of bridge types. It includes, from east to west: a 77-foot deck girder, three cantilever spandrel-braced deck arches (334 ft, 324 ft, 338 ft), 750-foot river span, another cantilever spandrel-braced deck arch (340 ft) and its counterbalancing deck truss span (194 ft), eight Warren deck trusses (each about 163 ft), an elevated concrete section of 1,145 ft which includes a pedestrian underpass at Olivia St, a trio of two-lane vehicle underpasses at Helen St, Munson Av and Chambers St, a pair of crescent trussed through arches (300 ft each) crossing the rail yards, a single lane vehicle underpass at Harriet St, finally touching down in a ramp which meets Island Av in McKees Rocks. The bridge was the successor to the O'Donovan Bridge, which ran from Island Avenue to the "Bottoms" of McKees Rocks from 1904 to 1931. FATE, TX.Fate is on State Highway 66 and the Missouri, Kansas and Texas line four miles northeast of Rockwall in northern Rockwall County. The community's name derives from the nickname, "Fate," given to Lafayette Brown, one of the area's early settlers, by his wife. A post office was established in the community in July 1880. By the mid-1880s Fate had a school, a cotton gin, two general stores, and a population of seventy-five. In 1886, in anticipation of the arrival of the Missouri, Kansas and Texas, Dr. Wylie T. Barnes platted a new community on his land about a half mile northeast of Fate, calling the new community Barnes City. The railroad built through later that year, and the residents and businesses of Fate moved to the new community. Seeking to avoid having to apply for a new post office, the residents of Barnes City changed their community's name to Fate in February 1887. By 1890 the community had fifteen businesses, a two-room school, two churches, and a population of 100. In 1899 the first rural mail route in Texas began operation from Fate. The population of the community continued to grow steadily through the 1890s and the first decades of the twentieth century, reaching 299 by 1920. The business community witnessed a similar growth, and Fate's first bank opened in 1907. Fate was incorporated in 1908. The federal highway reached the town after聽World War I. During the 1920s and 1930s the small community began to decline. While agriculture remained the area's major occupation, better roads and automobiles took trade from local merchants to those in larger towns. Nonetheless, a bank, a drugstore, and a number of stores remained in business at Fate. Fate's school eventually dropped its high school grades, and the community's population declined to 194 by 1930 and 127 by 1940. #architecture #dfwtexas #cityscape #city聽 #streetphotography #dfw #fatetx 聽 #citykillerz #dfwphotography #texasarchitecture聽 #texastown #dfwtexas #northtexas #smalltown #downtown #cityview #rockwallcounty #rural #dfwhistory #fatetexas #texas_ig #street_photography #streetview #texashistory #instagramtexas #city_captures #Texas #visitdfw #cityphotography #northtexas (at Fate, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSFdMA6LeTk/?utm_medium=tumblr

The聽Aermotor Windmill Company, or聽Aermotor Company, is an聽American manufacturer of聽wind-powered water pumps. The widespread use of their distinctive wind pumps on聽ranches聽throughout the arid plains and deserts of the United States has made their design a quintessential image of the聽American West. La Verne Noyes, founder of Aermotor Windmill Company, had hired engineer聽Thomas O. Perry聽for a different job but saw the potential of the all-metal聽windpump developed by Perry after extensive experiments. The first Aermotor was sold in 1888, with 24 windmills in total being sold in the first year.聽Aermotor soon became a strong competitor among its contemporaries selling over 20,000 of its windmills by 1892. Over the next 30 years Aermotor grew and expanded, introducing accessories and variants on "the mathematical windmill." La Verne Noyes died in 1919. He left the Aermotor Company to a tax paying trust, with 48 colleges and universities as beneficiaries. Aermotor continued to innovate and manufacture windmills throughout聽World War II聽and helped to produce the top secret聽Norden bombsight. During the latter part of the century ownership of the Aermotor Company changed hands and had its operation moved and expanded to new venues, including the country of聽Argentina;聽Broken Arrow, Oklahoma;聽Brentwood, Missouri; and聽Conway, Arkansas. By 1981, 80% of all windmills manufactured in The United States had their genesis in Conway. In 1998 Aermotor was purchased by Kees Verheul, as owner and president. It now operates from a 40,000-square-foot (3,700聽m2) facility in聽San Angelo, Texas. In 2006, the company was purchased by a group of West Texas ranchers, and the name restored to its original from 1888..."The Aermotor Company". architecture #grapevinetx #cityscapes #grapevine #citygrammers #dfw #citykillerz聽 #texasarchitecture #grapevinetexas #aermotor 聽 #city_captures #aermotorwindmill #tarrantcounty #street_vision #raw_usa #architecturephoto #grapevinemainstreet #capturedfw #texascountry #raw_architecture #texas_ig #grapevinemain #texas馃嚚馃嚤 #architecturephotography #architecturelovers #architectureporn #Texas #visitdfw #skyline #northtexas (at Grapevine, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSFa3F2LSUH/?utm_medium=tumblr

Fifth Avenue Place聽(originally "Hillman Tower", is a skyscraper in聽Pittsburgh,聽Pennsylvania. The building is owned by Highmark subsidiary Jenkins Empire Associates and has served as the company's headquarters since it was completed in 1988. Fifth Avenue Place stands on the site of one of the country鈥檚 first indoor malls, the Jenkins Arcade (1811-1984), an elegant Victorian structure that complemented the nearby Joseph Horne Company department store (now Penn Avenue Place). Fifth Avenue Place鈥檚 architecture pays homage to the grand structure it replaced: marble walkways, an open atrium with balconies and Victorian lamp posts. The building was completed on April 14, 1988聽and it has 31 floors. Located at the corner of Liberty Avenue and Fifth Avenue, it rises 616 feet (188聽m) above聽Downtown Pittsburgh. The structure is made up of a unique granite frame for roughly the first 450 feet (140聽m), then collapses inward in a pyramidal shape for another 124-foot-tall (38聽m) roof structure. The roof utilizes four prisms clad in granite and encloses a penthouse area that stores the mechanics for the building as well as the cooling towers. Before Highmark's branding of the top of the tower, there were video screens at the base of the decorative summit of the building. Protruding from the top of the skyscraper is a 178-foot-tall (54聽m) mast manufactured by Meyer Industry of Minnesota. Despite its rounded appearance, the 13-story steel structure is actually 12-sided and measures four feet in diameter. Due to high winds, the mast allows for up to three feet of sway. The height at the top of the mast represents the intended height for the building when it was in development.聽 #streetphotography #travelPennsylvania #pittsburgh #city聽 #explorePennsylvania #urbanphotography #pittsburghphotography 聽#architecture #citykillerz #Pennsylvaniaphotography 聽 #streets #city_captures #street_photography #city #midwest_captures #capturedpittsburgh #Pennsylvania #architecturephoto #onlyinPennsylvania #city_captures #street_vision #citygrammer #Pennsylvaniaarchitecture #city #pennsylvaniaphotography #architecturephotography #raw_usa #cityscape #cityphotography (at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQr1Q2gLa6g/?utm_medium=tumblr
