The Aermotor Windmill Company, or Aermotor Company, is an American manufacturer of wind-powered water pumps. The widespread use of their distinctive wind pumps on ranches throughout the arid plains and deserts of the United States has made their design a quintessential image of the American West. La Verne Noyes, founder of Aermotor Windmill Company, had hired engineer Thomas O. Perry for a different job but saw the potential of the all-metal windpump developed by Perry after extensive experiments. The first Aermotor was sold in 1888, with 24 windmills in total being sold in the first year. Aermotor soon became a strong competitor among its contemporaries selling over 20,000 of its windmills by 1892. Over the next 30 years Aermotor grew and expanded, introducing accessories and variants on "the mathematical windmill." La Verne Noyes died in 1919. He left the Aermotor Company to a tax paying trust, with 48 colleges and universities as beneficiaries. Aermotor continued to innovate and manufacture windmills throughout World War II and helped to produce the top secret Norden bombsight. During the latter part of the century ownership of the Aermotor Company changed hands and had its operation moved and expanded to new venues, including the country of Argentina; Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Brentwood, Missouri; and Conway, Arkansas. By 1981, 80% of all windmills manufactured in The United States had their genesis in Conway. In 1998 Aermotor was purchased by Kees Verheul, as owner and president. It now operates from a 40,000-square-foot (3,700 m2) facility in San Angelo, Texas. In 2006, the company was purchased by a group of West Texas ranchers, and the name restored to its original from 1888..."The Aermotor Company". architecture #grapevinetx #cityscapes #grapevine #citygrammers #dfw #citykillerz  #texasarchitecture #grapevinetexas #aermotor   #city_captures #aermotorwindmill #tarrantcounty #street_vision #raw_usa #architecturephoto #grapevinemainstreet #capturedfw #texascountry #raw_architecture #texas_ig #grapevinemain #texas🇨🇱 #architecturephotography #architecturelovers #architectureporn #Texas #visitdfw #skyline #northtexas (at Grapevine, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSFa3F2LSUH/?utm_medium=tumblr

Blacksmith shops were a presence in Grapevine dating to the 19th century. One by one, they disappeared, with the last being the Millican Blacksmith Shop that closed in the 1960s. But city preservationists decided in the mid-1990s that they wanted to bring the practice back. The Grapevine Blacksmith Shop is located just east of the Cotton Belt Railroad Depot at 707 S. Main St. In 1995, the shop was opened in the Cotton Belt Railroad District and is a replica of the historic Charlie Millican’s blacksmith shop formerly located at Main and Texas streets. Grapevine’s resident blacksmith, Will Frary, specializes in large wrought iron sculptures and architectural metal work. He is a veteran artist and known throughout the country and internationally as one of the premier Artist/Blacksmiths in the industry. His works can be commissioned and collected by prestigious private collectors and corporations alike. His monumental sculptures and metal work can be seen at businesses and in resort towns across the West. #architecture #grapevinetx #cityscapes #grapevine #citygrammers #dfw #citykillerz  #texasarchitecture #grapevinetexas #texashistory  #city_captures #cityscape #tarrantcounty #street_vision #raw_usa #architecturephoto #grapevinemainstreet #capturedfw #texascountry #raw_architecture #texas_ig #grapevinemain #texas🇨🇱 #architecturephotography #architecturelovers #architectureporn #Texas #visitdfw #skyline #scenic (at Grapevine, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/COI0QfKp45f/?igshid=1ijw30k4m56nw

CROWLEY, TX. Crowley is at the crossroads of Farm roads 1187 and 731, two miles west of Interstate Highway 35 and fifteen miles south of downtown Fort Worth in Tarrant County. About 1848 pioneers began to farm near Deer Creek in the area. The first recorded burial was in 1857. The settlement was moved to its present site when the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway built pens and laid tracks there. The first station depot was constructed in 1885. The community was named for S. H. Crowley, master of transportation for the railroad. A post office was established in 1882. Dairy farming, the railroad, ranching, and related businesses were the principal economic activities in this area. A Presbyterian church was established in 1895. The Crowley post office was moved to the Hayes brothers' general store in 1896. A two-story concrete building served as the first school (1905). In 1907–08 the school had 120 students. The Continental Bank and Trust Company opened in 1907. Crowley set a per capita record during World War II for purchasing United States Defense Bonds. The Crowley volunteer fire department was formed in 1950. An election for the incorporation of Crowley was held on February 3, 1951. The first elected mayor was "Chick" Race, who held office from 1953 to 1957. Incorporation helped the town to obtain a water system, natural gas, and a sewage system in the 1960s. On September 3, 1972, the town council moved to change the designation of Crowley from town to city. Crowley had a population of 275 in the late 1920s and 1930s, 500 by the end of World War II, and 2,583 in 1970. In 1980 the population had doubled to 5,852. In 1990 Crowley had a population of 8,301, a student enrollment of 4,971, and 134 businesses. In 2000 the town had a population of 7,467. #architecture #crowleytx #cityscapes #Crowley #citygrammers #dfw #citykillerz  #texasarchitecture #crowleytexas #scenicphotography  #city_captures #cityscape #tarrantcounty #street_vision #raw_usa #architecturephoto #grapevinemainstreet #capturedfw #texascountry #raw_architecture #texas_ig #texashistory #texas🇨🇱 #architecturephotography #architecturelovers #architectureporn #Texas #visitdfw #smalltown #scenic (at Crowley, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNlmdXNJo-M/?igshid=uy0yhygfeb0z

HASLET, TX.Haslet is on Farm Road 156 some sixteen miles northwest of Fort Worth in extreme north central Tarrant County. Charles L. Maloney, 96, a native of Ireland and resident of the Haslet community since 1882, died in 1938. Mr. Maloney came to the Blue Mound area in 1882 with his brother-in-law, H.C. Hurley, of Fort Worth. They bought a barren tract of land 15 miles north of Fort Worth, the present site of Haslet. Mr. Maloney began raising short horn Durham cattle. He had one of the first herds in this county. Joel C. Harmmond, the railroad contractor for the guild, Colorado & Santa Fe, was from Haslet, Michigan. "We'll name this stop Has let--," he said. The settlers in the area and the railroad works gave credit of the name to Mr. Maloney: has let the railroad come through, the year 1886. A post office opened there in 1887. The community was named for the Michigan hometown of the railroad's contractor. In 1896 the community had a school with twenty-one students and one teacher. Ten years later the Haslet school had twenty-five students. Haslet's population was sixty-seven in 1903 and fifty in 1915. During the 1920s Haslet had three grocery stores as well as a hardware store, dry goods store, and cotton gin. It reported a population of sixty-nine in the mid-1930s. The availability of war-related employment in Fort Worth probably contributed to the growth of Haslet's population to 175 by the late 1940s. It maintained this population through the 1950s, and in the mid-1960s, by which point it had incorporated, Haslet had a population of 250 and seven businesses. In 1976 it had 276 residents and five businesses. By 1990 Haslet, a commuter community for Fort Worth, had 795 residents and some twelve businesses. In 2000 the population was 1,134. #architecture #haslettx #cityscapes #haslet #citygrammers #dfw #citykillerz  #texasarchitecture #haslettexas #scenicphotography  #city_captures #cityscape #tarrantcounty #street_vision #raw_usa #architecturephoto #grapevinemainstreet #capturedfw #texascountry #raw_architecture #texas_ig #texashistory #texas🇨🇱 #architecturephotography #architecturelovers #architectureporn #Texas #visitdfw #smalltown #scenic (at Haslet, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMvoeOeJzFC/?igshid=1o3xcy1g1wci2

Grapevine is the oldest settlement in Tarrant County, originating under the Lone Star flag in 1844, a year before Texas became a part of the United States. In October, 1844, General Sam Houston and fellow Republic of Texas Commissioners camped at Tah-Wah-Karro Creek, also known as Grape Vine Springs, to meet with leaders of ten Indian nations. This historic meeting culminated in the signing of a treaty of “peace, friendship and commerce,” which opened the area for settlement by homesteaders and pioneers. The settlement was named Grapevine because of its location on the Grape Vine Prairie near Grape Vine Springs, both of which were named for the tart, wild Mustang grapes that blanketed the area. Following the signing of the treaty, settlement began in the area that would become the city of Grapevine. Growth during the 19th century was modest but steady. By 1890, the town had about 800 residents, along with amenities more common in larger cities such as a newspaper, a public school, several cotton gins, a post office and a railroad depot. Steady growth continued early in the 20th century and, on January 12, 1914, after the area had been known by several other names, the post office changed the town name to the one-word title Grapevine.Grapevine's population fell during the interwar period, as the economy stagnated, though the city was officially incorporated in 1936. Cotton was the primary crop for Grapevine until the early 20th century, when it was overtaken by cantaloupe farms that accounted for 25,000 acres. For several decades, until the early 1970s, the Rotary Club sign outside of town boasted Grapevine as the "Cantaloupe Capital of the World". #architecture #grapevinetx #cityscapes #grapevine #citygrammers #dfw #citykillerz  #texasarchitecture #grapevinetexas #texashistory  #city_captures #cityscape #tarrantcounty #street_vision #raw_usa #architecturephoto #grapevinemainstreet #capturedfw #texascountry #raw_architecture #texas_ig #grapevinemain #texas🇨🇱 #architecturephotography #architecturelovers #architectureporn #Texas #visitdfw #skyline #scenic (at Grapevine, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMBWzQWp0w5/?igshid=11vmd12ucz0lh
