The Aermotor Windmill Company, or Aermotor Company, is an American manufacturer of wind-powered water pumps. The widespread use of their distinctive wind pumps on ranches throughout the arid plains and deserts of the United States has made their design a quintessential image of the American West. La Verne Noyes, founder of Aermotor Windmill Company, had hired engineer Thomas O. Perry for a different job but saw the potential of the all-metal windpump developed by Perry after extensive experiments. The first Aermotor was sold in 1888, with 24 windmills in total being sold in the first year. Aermotor soon became a strong competitor among its contemporaries selling over 20,000 of its windmills by 1892. Over the next 30 years Aermotor grew and expanded, introducing accessories and variants on "the mathematical windmill." La Verne Noyes died in 1919. He left the Aermotor Company to a tax paying trust, with 48 colleges and universities as beneficiaries. Aermotor continued to innovate and manufacture windmills throughout World War II and helped to produce the top secret Norden bombsight. During the latter part of the century ownership of the Aermotor Company changed hands and had its operation moved and expanded to new venues, including the country of Argentina; Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Brentwood, Missouri; and Conway, Arkansas. By 1981, 80% of all windmills manufactured in The United States had their genesis in Conway. In 1998 Aermotor was purchased by Kees Verheul, as owner and president. It now operates from a 40,000-square-foot (3,700 m2) facility in San Angelo, Texas. In 2006, the company was purchased by a group of West Texas ranchers, and the name restored to its original from 1888..."The Aermotor Company". architecture #grapevinetx #cityscapes #grapevine #citygrammers #dfw #citykillerz  #texasarchitecture #grapevinetexas #aermotor   #city_captures #aermotorwindmill #tarrantcounty #street_vision #raw_usa #architecturephoto #grapevinemainstreet #capturedfw #texascountry #raw_architecture #texas_ig #grapevinemain #texas🇨🇱 #architecturephotography #architecturelovers #architectureporn #Texas #visitdfw #skyline #northtexas (at Grapevine, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSFa3F2LSUH/?utm_medium=tumblr

Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. Architect Louis Kahn, structural consultant August Komendant, 1966–1972. A temple of art built for an extraordinary private collection. Louis Kahn paid special attention to the use of natural light and dignified materials – concrete, travertine, wood, glass and polished metal. It's the culmination of a collaboration between a mature architect and his consulting engineer of many years. The central part of the structure is comprised of cycloid shells, which delicately disperse light. The cycloid shape was proposed by Marshall Meyers, the project architect from Louis Kahn’s office. The shells are built of monolithic reinforced concrete, are post-tensioned and carry the marginal beams with spans of more than 26 metres. If you still haven't visited the great Komendant exhibition "Miracles in Concrete" at our museum, don't worry, after all the COVID-19 craze is over, we will likely extend the opening period of the exhibition! :)  Stay safe, folks! ❤ Photo: Marshall D. Then and Now from @historic_texas . Manning-Gordon-Henderson House 159 S. Rice St., Hamilton, Texas. Local contractor Louis V. Manning built this house between 1880 and 1885 on land inherited from his father, pioneer Ezekiel Manning, and lived here until 1904. The John H. and Abbie Gordon family owned the house from 1907 to 1936 and the Oliver Dow and Minta Henderson family took up residence here in 1936. A simple example of a cross-gabled roof Queen Anne house, its distinguishing details include fish-scale textured gables, cutaway bay windows, and a front entry porch with ornamental posts and brackets and a jigsawn frieze. Also of interest is the unusual siding flanking the entry door. Recorded Texas Historic Landmark - 1999 First image from early 2019, the second dates from 1899. . #HamiltonTx #HamiltonTexas #HamiltonCounty #Texas #Architecture #TexasHomes #texasarchitecture #architecturePhotography #Archi_ologie #Victorian #VictorianHome #houseportrait #historictexas, #BrickStory, #architecture #historicpreservation, #househistory, #nowandthen, #preservation, #historichome, #oldhouselove, #americanhome, #architect, #ancestry, #storyteller, #thenandnow, #travelamerica, #instahouses, #instatravel, #instaarchitecture Tell us your story... FATE, TX.Fate is on State Highway 66 and the Missouri, Kansas and Texas line four miles northeast of Rockwall in northern Rockwall County. The community's name derives from the nickname, "Fate," given to Lafayette Brown, one of the area's early settlers, by his wife. A post office was established in the community in July 1880. By the mid-1880s Fate had a school, a cotton gin, two general stores, and a population of seventy-five. In 1886, in anticipation of the arrival of the Missouri, Kansas and Texas, Dr. Wylie T. Barnes platted a new community on his land about a half mile northeast of Fate, calling the new community Barnes City. The railroad built through later that year, and the residents and businesses of Fate moved to the new community. Seeking to avoid having to apply for a new post office, the residents of Barnes City changed their community's name to Fate in February 1887. By 1890 the community had fifteen businesses, a two-room school, two churches, and a population of 100. In 1899 the first rural mail route in Texas began operation from Fate. The population of the community continued to grow steadily through the 1890s and the first decades of the twentieth century, reaching 299 by 1920. The business community witnessed a similar growth, and Fate's first bank opened in 1907. Fate was incorporated in 1908. The federal highway reached the town after World War I. During the 1920s and 1930s the small community began to decline. While agriculture remained the area's major occupation, better roads and automobiles took trade from local merchants to those in larger towns. Nonetheless, a bank, a drugstore, and a number of stores remained in business at Fate. Fate's school eventually dropped its high school grades, and the community's population declined to 194 by 1930 and 127 by 1940. #architecture #dfwtexas #cityscape #city  #streetphotography #dfw #fatetx   #citykillerz #dfwphotography #texasarchitecture  #texastown #dfwtexas #northtexas #smalltown #downtown #cityview #rockwallcounty #rural #dfwhistory #fatetexas #texas_ig #street_photography #streetview #texashistory #instagramtexas #city_captures #Texas #visitdfw #cityphotography #northtexas (at Fate, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSFdMA6LeTk/?utm_medium=tumblr
