For decades, the fashion world has received criticism for the way they pick and choose their models, as they are primarily tall, skinny, white, and not reflective of the population of the world. The Austin Intercultural Network wanted to bring about change with this issue locally. With their 5th annual Intercultural Fashion Show, the organization promoted cultural awareness through its lineup of designers, including Theo Shayo from Africa and Divya Bharal from India. The show also featured its first Native American designer, Nan Blassingame. Shayo, founder of the clothing shop Shavanthe, was one of the designers featured in the show. She specializes in traditional and contemporary clothing made from African prints, where she draws inspiration from her culture and travels to 21 countries. “I look around and there’s models from South America, Asia, and here, it’s beautiful,” Shayo said. “I’m even getting inspired by the show.” | 📸: @theapplecore_1 (at South Congress Hotel)

We like mixing prints with other fabrics. For this one we mixed solid off white satin fabric with african print kitenge and created an evening gown that can be worn by anyone. This dress is lined and fit very nicely. At this moment We are only left with Size 4 and 6, and we are also taking pre-orders. Just DM us. . . . . .
