I'm insane over the fact that the one aspect of Fiedra that Asmodeus didn't account for was her parental instinct. He sees her ruthlessness, her cunning, her willingness to cheat and fight and kill to protect herself, so he tempts her with riches and safety and freedom from her rotten lot and he knows she will say yes, because she is a liar, a survivor, a roach who always has an out, just like him, and Asmodeus always chooses to save himself.

She should say yes, but against all odds, she says no.

But she says no. She says no, and destroys the key to give back Timothy his soul. She says no to save a young boy because she is at heart a parent. Just how she chose to save and protect Crokus (even if it came with a fuckload of emotional baggage and mistakes) at every chance. Just how she chose to protect, to be the watchful parental guardian at Torm's Hill. Fiedra says no, not because she isn't ruthless and cunning and selfish, but because she is a parent and she loves her children.

And of course Asmodeus doesn't see it coming, because parental love is the one thing he never understood. Fiedra Marriw is perhaps the first person in all of EXU to truly beat Asmodeus, to see through his lies, to foil his plan completely, and she does it through the power of a parent's love.
