Spin
“Again”
Spin
“Again
Spin
“Again”
You hit the ice just as aggressively as you did the time before that. You're finding it hard to breathe and everything aches.
“Again Lapin!”
You pump your legs, moving them fast and hard. You're mid-jump when you hear the shrieking of the arena buzzer. Thrown off, your footing is off and you fall to your knees.
You hear your coach scoff, moving to get off the ice. You get up, wincing at the sting in your knees, that’ll be a nasty bruise.
When you walk off the ice, Coach hands you your blade covers. You mentally prepare yourself for the lecture you’ll receive when you return to the locker room.
You feel a tight grip on your arm. Okay, looks like you’ll get your lecture right here.
“Lapin, If you get distracted by a buzzer, what makes you think you’ll be fine in an arena full of people? Have you learned nothing from your last performance?”
She asks you questions but doesn’t give you time to respond, she immediately cuts in. “And your jumps, how is it that you haven’t managed to master your jumps? You are well past the age to be scared of falling. Your hesitation will cost you this title.”
Silence falls over the both of you, Coach has her hands on her sides and just stares. You know what she's doing. She’s thinking of how you’ll be punished for this oh-so-horrible performance today.
“Tomorrow you will march yourself to the management office and ask for an extended time.”
Your eyes go wide, “Coach, they’ll never give me more time. And what about my professors? They’re already at their wits end with me being gone all the time.”
Coach’s eyes sharpen, “I’m sorry, have your priorities changed? Am I wasting your time Lapin? Cause if that’s the case then say so, and may we be free of this doomed partnership.”
You cower under her stare, “No, no of course not Coach, I’ll talk to management tomorrow and see what deal I can work up with my professors.”
Pleased with the conversation going her way, Coach smiles. “Good, I’ll see you soon.”
With that, she saunters off, reaching for her phone to call god knows who.
When you’re sure she’s out of eyesight you slump down onto the bench next to you. You close your eyes and take a minute to finally catch your breath. You bring your hand to your chest, hoping to alleviate some of the tightness and discomfort.
The bench shakes and you hear something hit the ground with a thud. You open one eye and close it again when you see who it is who’s disturbed your peace.
“How oh how will you ever convince management to give you any more practice time?”
You sigh, hoping that if you ignore the nuisance next to you, he’ll get the hint and leave you alone.
“They won’t even give the team extra time, let alone one person.”
You open your eyes and turn to look at the boy sitting next to you. “I can be very persuasive.”
James, who’s lacing up his skates, mumbles a quiet “Don’t I know it.”
You stand up and gather your things. “Who Knows James, win some games and maybe you’ll get the extra time you need.”
James pauses his movement, looking up at you with a deadly glare.
It’s a sore subject and you know it. After Peter Pettigrew, one of the university's star players decided to transfer, James and the rest of the team have been dethroned. They’ve known no peace since then and are grappling with everything to win this season.
James turns back to his laces. “Hey and maybe if you learn to stop being so skittish on the ice, you’ll land that jump for once Lapin.”
This is why you’ll never feel bad for being so hostile toward James. He’s a wolf in sheep's clothing and you lose your mind every day knowing that everybody has fallen for his golden boy act.
You throw your bag over your shoulder, swatting at the back of James' head on your way out of the arena.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You’re pacing back and forth in front of the management office. You’ve gone over every possible excuse that could convince them to give you more time. You will convince them, or Coach will have your head on a platter. You’ll butter up the sweet old lady who works the front desk, you’ll dazzle her, and she’ll sign whatever she needs to.
With one final pep talk, you walk into the office and freeze at the door.
Shit.
It’s not the sweet old lady.
Sitting at the front desk is Remus Lupin. ‘This is fine’ you try to convince yourself.
You saunter up to the desk “Good morning Remus, you look fantastic today, do anything different with your hair?”
Remus puts his book down, looking up with a sweet smile, “No, did the same thing I always do. How can I help you?”
You lean onto the counter and start messing with the pen jar. “You, my love, can sign off on my extra ice time.” you choose not to make eye contact, continuing to swivel the pens around the jar.
Remus sighs, dragging your name out, “You know I can’t approve any more time for you, the school won’t allow it.”
You stomp your foot out of habit, “ But Remus, I got all my professors to give me as many extensions as I need, really all I need is for you to say yes.”
Remus, always bursting your bubble, “It’s not about class love, It’s about your health. You know how the system works.”
You groan and bring your head down onto the counter. You knew this would be your biggest obstacle. All athletes have to adhere to certain rules. The university claims that it’s to protect the athlete's health but everyone knows it's so they don’t get backlash for overworking their student-athletes. You're allotted a certain amount of hours but anything over that has to be flagged and reported.
“Listen,” Your head shoots up, “I can maybe convince them to a lot you a bit more time, but you’ve got to go to your physical therapy sessions. Doc has to report when you don’t show you know.”
“Okay yes, fine, I pinky promise that I will see Doc, and stretch and stay off the ice for 30 minutes after eating, and-”
Remus cuts you off with a laugh, “Okay, okay I get it. I’ll talk to the board and see what I can do.”
You squeal, reaching over the counter to smack a kiss on Remus’s forehead. “You are a lifesaver Remus Lupin.”
Remus just shakes his head, “Yeah yeah, whatever, get out of here.”
You happily skip out of the office, so happy, that not even running into James Potter in his gear could upset you.
You offer a simple “James” and go to walk past him.
“Woah, what's got you all happy?”
You give him a sly smile, “Oh nothing, I’m just having a lovely morning.”
James furrows his brows at you, “Okayyy. Was Rem in the office?”
You nod at him, “Yes, my sweet, beautiful, lovely Remus is in there. How he’s friends with the lot of you, I’ll never understand.”
James is insulted but is weirded out more than anything.
Not caring to interact any further you wave goodbye.
James, still confused, continues into the office.
You don’t get far down the before James is yelling your name down the hallway. You roll your eyes, continuing on your way. You hear thumping and there’s a yank on your wrist.
You yelp out of surprise. James without a word is dragging you back towards the office. You both enter and Remus is shaking his head.
You rip your wrist out of James' grip, “I’d like that back thank you.”
You smile at Remus, “Hi love, so good to see you again.”
“Likewise.”
James snaps his fingers, “Quit it you two, Remus just told me you’re getting more time on the ice.”
“Why yes I am. I told you James, do better at your sport and good things come your way.”
“Guys please don’t start. I don’t want to have to kick you out again,” Remus says.
James disregards your insult, “You can’t get more time, you’re already maxed out on hours, they’ll never approve it.”
You shake your head in faux symphony “Oh James, I told you I was very persuasive.”
This seems to bring his attention back to his friend. “You” he points a finger aggressively toward Remus’s direction, “How could you say yes? You're the iron wall, no one shakes you down.”
Remus gives a weak shrug, “Okay, I wasn’t shaken down, we made a deal”
James rolls his eyes, “Oh yeah, and what was that?”
“She’ll see Doc, every appointment, she has to go.”
James looks confused. “How is that a deal? It's protocol.”
“Wellll” Remus drags.
The look on James’ face darkens. His attention is on you now. “You don’t see the Doc?”
You try not to be intimidated by his glare. “I just don’t see the point of seeing him after every practice. I mean come on, my body is my instrument, of course, I know how to take care of it.”
Whatever lightness was in the air, is gone now. James is genuinely upset and you can’t wrap your head around why.
“Are you kidding me, so what, you’ve just been skipping out on all your appointments?”
All you can do is shrug. Remus, who can sense the shift in the atmosphere, tries to intervene. “Look, I don’t even know if it’s a guarantee, I still have to ask the board.”
Your heart drops. “No. I need the time. You said you’d get me the time.”
Remus, who has unfortunately been caught in both James and your fury, doesn't know how to turn this conversation around.
“And what about your work, do you even go to class anymore?”
“I’m doing great in all my classes.”
“That doesn't answer whether you're going.”
“What does it matter? Virtual or not, It’s only until after the competition.”
James takes his glasses off and rubs at his forehead like he’s trying to ward off an oncoming headache. “So, just like that, you get the time, extensions on school work, and a pass from all the appointments you missed with Doc.”
You sigh, “I don’t get it James, are you jealous, is that what it is?”
This strikes a nerve in James. “You think that's what this is about?”
“Well” you throw your hands up, “what else could be?”
James puts his glasses back on and steps up to you, “You know what, if you want to overwork yourself and fuck up any chance you get at the actual competition, go ahead, seems like everyone is right behind you.” with that, James storms out the office.
Remus walks out from behind the desk and gives a light squeeze to your shoulder, “I don’t understand why you two work each other up so much.”
“He’s wrong,” you say quietly. Remus listens. “I’m better than I’ve ever been. I need this Remus, I need to win this. I need to show everyone that I can do it.”
Remus, with a sad look in his eyes, pulls you in for a hug. “Everyone knows you can, you’re amazing.”
You sigh and pull away. “It doesn’t matter how good I am, all everyone sees now is the girl who messed up last year. All my hard work was reduced to one stupid mistake. I have to get it right this time.”
Remus just sighs, he’s seen this version of you before, and he doesn’t like where it’s going.
He grabs you by the shoulders, “Promise that you’ll go to Doc.”
“Promise that you’ll get me my time.”
He sticks out his pinky, encouraging you to lock yours with his. You do.
“Thank Rem”
“Don’t make me regret love.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To everyone's surprise, the board does accept your request for additional time. You're ecstatic. Coach won’t show it but you know she’s semi-impressed.
With the new time, the ending of your practice marked the beginning of the kid's ice class. Every time you did any sort of jump or spin you could hear a dozen little aws and wows.
You felt fantastic, Coach was in a decent mood, and practice was long but the scary women had minimal feedback. For the first time in a long time, you felt on top of the world.
“Okay, that’s enough for today.”
You walk off the ice, putting your guards on. Coach gives you final pointers and is out of the building before you can say bye.
You sat on the bench, undoing the laces of your skates when a group of the girls from before comes up to you. They flutter around you, asking all sorts of questions and giving endless praises. You’d be lying if you said that you didn’t feel your heart swell with pride and joy.
You're talking about costumes when you hear your name being called. Standing towards the entryway are Doc and James.
You knew this day was going to well, you had forgotten that today was your scheduled appointment with Doc. As for James, every time you see him your day is ruined. The two of you hadn’t spoken since the whole incident in the office. Remus had tried to get the both of you to make amends but neither of you had the intention of doing so.
You put your slipper on and make your way over to pair.
“Hey remember me? Long time no see.” You know Doc is trying to be silly but your heart beating faster at the mere thought of having to get checked up.
The bespectacled figure clears his throat. “Haven't you heard Doc, our ice princess got more ice time so she's been pretty busy.”
You cross your arms. Reaching a hand to rest on your sternum, feeling a slight tug at every breath you take.
Doc disregards James petty comment, immediately picking up on your discomfort. “You okay?”
James looks puzzled, glancing back and forth between the two of you, looking for whatever he missed.
You shrug. “Yeah, it's just, well..you know.” Doc just nods.
“Know what?” James blurts out. From the look on his face, you can tell that he didn't mean to say that out loud.
You frown, “It’s nothing.”
“It’s clearly something.”
“Okay, well it’s none of your business is it.”
“OKAY,” Doc yells, cutting both of you off. “James I’ll do what we talk about, now move along.”
James lingers for a bit before he finally walks off.
“Now you” Doc starts, “Shall come with me.”
You know that there isn’t any way to avoid this and follow right behind him.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Doc makes small talk throughout your checkup. You give replies, trying your best not to come off like you don’t want to be there.
You’re in the middle of doing a stretch when Doc says “So, are we going to talk about the elephant in the room?”
You lay on your back and bring a knee up to your chest, staring up at the ceiling. “Do we have to?”
Doc hums, “I think we should.”
You bring your leg down and lift the other to your chest “Okay, well then I guess.”
Doc stands at your side and offers a hand to bring you up from the ground. You sit on the ground and Doc sits in front of you. “I need you to know that what I did, was not only part of my job as your doctor but as someone who cares deeply for you lot.”
You fidget with your fingers as Doc continues. “And I had to report the appointments that you were missing. I know you guys like to joke around with me but I am a healthcare provider before anything else and you can loathe me all you want but know my actions are never meant to harm you.”
Ugh, you feel like such an asshole now. “I don’t hate you Doc, I know you're just doing your job. I think-” you pause, trying to gather your thoughts, “I think in my head If I didn’t do my checkups, there wouldn’t be anyone to tell me that something could potentially be wrong.”
Doc nods, and you continue “I should’ve listened to you back then, with or without the jump I would've lost anyway.” You say with a sad smile. “This time has to be different, I have to land that jump, I have to win this one.”
Doc gives you an odd look. “I’ll be watching you like a hawk, you need to take care of yourself. I won’t watch you hurt yourself for this again, will you hate me then?”
You feel your body stiffen, you need this, so you think you might.
“I mean it when I say this one is mine this year.” you have never been more serious in your life.
“Oh trust me, I believe you.”
It doesn’t have to be said, but you think that you and Doc might be a bit further apart than before.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You’re counting down the weeks. The competition is getting closer with each day that passes. You’ve spent more time at the arena over the past couple of weeks than you have in your dorm.
Practice isn’t until later today, but you ambushed Remus when he was walking into the rink this morning.
Now here you are, skating freely in the dimly lit rink. Remus gets horrible migraines and chooses to leave the lights off for as long as he can.
You glide across the rink, twisting and turning whenever you please. Some time has passed when you come to a stop. All you can hear is the sound of your labored breath. You do your breathing techniques, trying your best to regulate your heartbeat.
Your nerves spike back up when you see James skating towards you and feel speed.
He halts right in front of you. “Are you okay?”
All you can do is nod, not being able to form words quite yet. James doesn’t say anything else for a while. He watches and waits as you catch your breath.
When you seem to have calmed down he jumps to question you. “What on earth was that?”
You shrug, “I just got a bit winded I guess.” He blinks at you, “That's not the first time it happened though.”
James, always so annoyingly inquisitive.
“I’m fine James, where the hell did you come from anyway? The rink isn’t open yet.”
You both kick into a slow skate around the rink. “That's rich, considering you’re here too. Also, you forget that Remus is one of my best friends.”
“How could I forget, you remind me every time I interact with him.”
“Well, that's because I can’t seem to understand what hold you’ve got over him. He folds instantly when it comes to you. You know I had to beg him for 20 minutes to let me in.”
You give a triumphant smile, “Remus and I have a bond that exceeds any and all relationship types, I wouldn’t expect you to understand.”
James scowls, ‘Stop talking about your special bond with Remus.”
“Jealous?”
“No!” James responded a bit too quickly. “More like deeply disturbed.”
“Not as disturbing as you and Sirius,” you say, skating a bit faster to get ahead of him.
“Hey! Don’t bring Sirius into this.”
You tsk, “So quick to defend his honor. Tell him I’m still waiting on our date by the way.”
“Oh please, Sirius goes on dates with anything that moves so don’t hold your breath.” Whatever honor and respect James had for his best friend earlier is out the window.
You hum, not offering him a real response. James, changing the subject, “Was that a routine earlier?”
“A routine with no music?” you ask sarcastically.
James rolls his eyes, “I'm just asking because it looked familiar.”
Familiar? Why would it look familiar?
“Spend your days off watching figure skating routines?” you say as you skate backward in front of him.
He shakes his head, “No, just yours.” he doubles down quickly, “Well cause, we skate at the same rink and all that.”
It’s too late, what he’s said has already gone to your head. You bring a hand to your heart mockingly, “The James Potter, Hockey legend, watches my routines. What an honor.”
James makes a face at you, “Oh whatever, forget I said anything.”
You continue “I can’t believe I am skating with James Potter.” you say as you skate around him.
James can’t help but laugh. “Okay quit it you’re gonna make me dizzy. God knows how you spin the way you do without throwing up.”
You continue at his side. “Years and years of practice.”
“So, the routine, what's it from?”
You let out a long sigh, “It was bits and pieces from my finals routine last year.”
James says a quiet ‘oh’
“Mhm” is all you can offer back.
“I was there, you know?” James fidgets with his glasses. “Well, I mean, me and the whole team—half of the university, really.”
This shocks you. You knew a lot of peers and locals from your university town showed overwhelming support, but for some reason, knowing James was there makes you…happy?
“Well, you picked the worst one to turn up to.” You try to make a light-hearted joke, but it doesn’t work.
James comes to a stop on the ice. You stop with him. “You really scared everyone.”
You scoff, “More like disappointed everyone.”
“No” James replies sharply, “I can assure you that no one in that arena was disappointed and you’ve got to stop thinking that.”
You feel an argument brewing. “And what about you James? What did you feel? Please share with the gallery.”
“I-” he pauses for a second. “I was scared too, and then I was angry.”
“Angry?”
He nods, “Angry. I was angry at you. I was angry that you’d attempt to do something so-”
He cuts himself off, trying to restrain himself.
“Something so what James? Go on say it” You egg him on.
He yanks his glasses off his face, a habit he has when he’s frustrated. “Fine! Something so stupid. I couldn’t, for the life of me wrap my head around why you would purposely do something so stupid.” James doesn’t stop there. “I couldn’t understand why you would disregard Doc's orders. I was angry that you had such little regard for yourself and your body.” James throws his hands up,” and all for what?”
You clench your fist tight at your side. You feel the anger flare up inside you. “All for what?” you laugh bitterly. “Is that how you see what I do?”
James doesn’t respond. His silence only angers you more. “I did what I thought was necessary okay? I worked too hard all last year to just give it up. I made a mistake, I understand that, and I have spent every moment since then trying to make it up.”
You inch closer towards James, “Do you know how humiliating it is to have all my hard work be reduced down to one single mistake? I am perfect my whole career but the second I have one slip-up I'm stripped of all my wins, all my medals. Everything I’ve worked for, completely disregarded.”
James stares at you with wide eyes. “Is this what this is about? About ruining your perfect reign? Do you know how insane that sounds?”
You groan, “I could hold my tongue hearing this from anyone else, but you of all people James, Seriously? You are such a hypocrite.”
James glares at you. “And what exactly are you alluding to?”
“You,” you say, shoving a finger in his chest, “are a hypocrite. You think I don’t see what you’ve been doing. Ever since Pete left you have been overcompensating, trying to fill a role all by yourself. The late night and early morning practices. Taking on extra responsibility on the ice. Spreading yourself thin to make it to nationals.
“That’s different.”
You laugh “How on earth is different James?” you can't believe this guy.
“It’s different because It’s temporary until we find someone else. It’s different because I take care of myself. It’s different because it’s a whole team of us that care about each other. Yeah, I'm stepping up right now but I can always step back and rely on the guys if I need to. You, however, have..well you just don’t..” he sighs, “you’re alone.”
You back up from him, “You’re unbelievable.” you start skating to exit the rink. You hear James call after you. “Wait, I didn’t mean it like that.”
“Whatever James, just leave me alone.”
“Would you just let me explain?” he desperately calls out. You swivel around the ice quickly, turning to face him. You have a snarky remark to give but it's out the window when James fully runs into you. Before both of you can catch yourselves, you both fall onto the ice.
You yelp out in pain when James falls right onto your foot. He’s off of you quickly. “Holy shit are you okay?”
You don’t answer, attempting to stand up. When you put pressure on your right foot, a sharp pain shoots through your ankle. James must see the pain in your face, “I'm so sorry I didn’t think you were going to stop. Let me help you back.”
You shake him off, “No it’s fine, I’m fine.” you go to kick off the ice and the pain brings you to your knees. James reaches for you but you push his hands away.
No no no, this can’t be happening. You feel your heart start to pick up. You can barely hear James over the ringing in your ear. You stand up one more time, pushing off with your left leg this time. You make it somewhere but when you push off your right leg out of habit you double over in pain.
You hear James grimace from behind you. “Alright, that's enough.” James wraps your arm over his shoulder and takes most of your weight. You can’t deny him, having no other way to get off the ice. He glides the both of you to the exit. The second your feet reach the matted floors you push away from him and limp to the nearest bench. You're pulling and tugging at your laces aggressively. When your skate is loose enough you yank your foot out, crying out in pain. You roll your sock down both you and James gasp. You throw the skate that’s in your hand.
You bring your hands to your eyes, feeling that annoying sting. “Fuck!” This is not happening. You did not just ruin your chances for this year because of one little accident.
“I have to get Remus.” you grip James' wrist stopping him in his tracks. “Absolutely not!”
James tries to pull his wrist from you but you bring your other hand to grab at it. “Don’t say anything, please. I promise I’m fine.” James looks at you bewildered, “Are you insane? Your ankle is purple.”
“I bruise easily. I promise it's fine.”
“Walk on it.”
What. “What?”
James shrugs, “Walk on it. Walk from here to those bleachers.”
You go stand up, his eyes never leaving you. You take your first step and feel the same sharp pain you flinch but take your next step. You take step after step, pushing through the blinding pain. You make it to the bleachers and turn to face James. “See, it’s fine.”
James stares at you in disbelief. He walks up to you “You are unbelievable.” He grits out.
James leaves without saying anything else. Leaving you in the dark arena.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s been three days. You managed to convince Coach to give you time off, telling her that you had some projects to catch up on. Pleased with your recent performance, she reluctantly granted you some free time. No practice meant no Doc visits. Three days and radio silence from James. You were so sure that he would've said something to someone by now but you aren't called in for any meeting or evaluations.
Three days later and your ankle is still purple and throbbing. You’ve taken way too many painkillers for it to be safe but it’s your first day back and you have to act like you feel fine.
You walk into the building. You put on a smile and are prepared to give the best performance of your lifetime. Coach is already standing by the ice. You go towards the locker rooms but you stop when she yells your name.
She looks annoyed when you walk up to her. “Hey Coach”
She puts her phone down. “Look, they are cutting into your time today because they have to get the ice ready for the game tonight. I’m going to need you to do a quick warm-up and get right into running the routine. Jumps and all.”
You nod, “Yes ma’am.”
You put your bag down on the bench and start getting ready. You’re lacing up your skates when you hear a chorus of laughter. You lift your head to see James, Remus, and Sirius all chit-chatting while exiting the office hallway. Sirius catches your eye and you’re too slow to look away. He’s caught you.
“Lapin!”
Oh god.
You hear them make their way over.
“Where have you been? We haven’t seen you in ages.”
You yank tightly at your laces and wrap them around your ankle. “Oh don’t exaggerate. It was only three days.”
Sirius scoffs, slouching down onto the bench next to you. “Yeah, that’s forever for you. I feel like lately you’ve been here every day.” you roll your eyes at him.
“I had schoolwork to catch up on.”
Remus hums, “Look at you. Working hard.”
You lean back on the bench. “What can I say? Anyway, I’m back. Try not to stare too hard Sirius.”
Sirius' shoulder bumps you. “Hey, what about Remus?”
You stand up, “You my darling.” pointing a finger at Remus. “Can stare as long and hard as you’d like to.”
There is a slight tinge of pink on Remus’s face but he laughs it off. “Quit you two.”
Your attention turns to James clearing his throat. This whole time he hadn’t said anything, just staring at you, analyzing your every move.
The two of you stare at each other, tension thick in the air. He drags his eyes slowly down your body. Any other person would think he has no shame but you know it’s nothing like that. You know exactly what he’s looking for. James' eyes linger on your ankle, mostly hidden by your skates.
James tilts his head, “Hmm”
Sirius and Remus, having no idea what's going on, simply stand there.
“Hmm? That’s all you're gonna say?”
Jamea shrugs. “What else is there to say? Everythings fine.”
For the past three days you’ve done nothing but worry about James snitching on you. It’s brought you nothing but stress and anxiety. Why hasn’t he said anything?
You open your mouth to say something. “Yeah sure everythi-”
“Lapin! On the ice. Now!”
James continues staring at you. If he thinks you’re going to crack, he’s going to be waiting for the rest of the day.
You walk away with as much ease and poise as you can.
The pain in your foot isn’t gone. You’ve got a purple bump to prove it but you’ve taken enough pain meds to hold off some of the pain for now. You skate around the ice, warming up. Every time you kick off you feel the twinging pain but do your best to ignore it. Coach doesn’t let you warm up for long.
“Lapin, run the routine.”
You’re heart drops, you didn’t think she’d get straight into it but she must want to take advantage of the time you had on the ice.
You take a deep breath, already feeling the normal burning sensation in your lungs. You get into position. You steady yourself into your starting pose. You lock eyes with James. They’re all leaning onto barriers. Neither of you breaks eye contact. Finally, you hear the starting notes of your music and begin. You kick off beautifully, moving across the rink in a matter of seconds. You glide elegantly across the ice. The music begins to swell, the first jump is coming up. You breathe in, brace yourself, and jump. You spin, almost landing perfectly. There is a bit of wobble but nothing you can't make up in the next couple of jumps. You continue your program. You jump again. Spinning and landing. This one is perfect, no wobble. You keep moving, swelling with pride. You can’t see anyone but the lack of yelling lets you know that Coach is somewhat satisfied with the jumps. You push on, beginning to feel the pain in your foot. You ignore it as best you can. It’s when you're landing your third jump that the pain shoots up through your ankle. It leaves you breathless for a second but you compose yourself. You skate, you skate and skate and skate until you hear yelling over the music.
“Get her off the ice right now!”
You bring yourself to a stop. You look over to the commotion and see the coach with Doc. Standing right next to both of them is James.
You stay on the ice, trying to catch your breath.
It’s Coach's turn to yell at you. “Lapin, come here right this instance.”
Your heart continues beating quickly. You make your way over and when you're at the exit, Coach is pulling you by the arm, heading straight for the benches.
“Sit.”
You look between her and Doc, you can’t even bear to look at James.
“What on Earth is going on?!”
“Take your skates off!”
“Excuse me?”
“Skates. Off. Now.”
You reach to slowly start untying your skates. It doesn’t matter how slow you move. They all sit and wait.
Once they’re both off Doc kneels and reaches for your ankles immediately.
“Woah what the hell are you doing?”
“Which one James?”
Your head snaps towards James. You’re caught, you know it, but if James says something now you’ll hate him for the rest of your life.
James must see it in your face. He’s silent for a second.
“Which one is James? I'm not going to ask again.”
James looks away and answers. “The right one.”
Without another second wasted, Doc is yanking your sock down, revealing a swollen purple ankle. Both Doc and Coach gasp.
“Lapin, what the hell were you thinking?”
You scramble to save this. “It’s not as bad as it looks! I promise!”
You look between Coach and Doc and all you see is pure disappointment. Coach runs a hand through her hair.
“Why? Why are you so adamant about hurting yourself? Do you not realize that you could mess this up beyond repair. What will you do then?”
Your eyes start to sting and you feel them watering up. “I didn’t mean to. It was a stupid accident.”
“Well, that’s exactly my point. You are a star athlete. What are you doing having stupid accidents? You are meant to be taking care of yourself.”
You feel the tears begin to fall. “Oh, now you care? Where was this lecture when you let me skate last year? Or how about all the times I skipped my appointments? How many appointments did you let go unattended? How many times did you look the other way?”
You stare at your coach in anger and she looks right back at you with a look you can’t place.
Doc cuts in. “We need to get it checked out.” You go to stand up and Doc tries to help you immediately. “You really shouldn’t be walking on it.”
“I’ve been doing it just fine.”
Doc shakes his head and reaches to help again. “I mean it. I don’t want you walking on it. James can you come hel-”
You cut him off immediately. “Absolutely not. I said I’m fine. I can walk by myself.”
Realizing that he can’t stop you, Doc lets you start making your way to his office. James follows behind immediately, calling you names. You ignore him but he won’t stop. He grabs your arm. You hear him quietly beg “Please, can you just listen.”
You yank your arm out of his grasp. “I never want to hear from you again, James Potter. I hate you.” you spit out venomously. James displays a clear look of hurt. You leave him there, making your way down the hall alone.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After a thorough investigation, Doc diagnoses you with a bad sprain. It would have been fine if you had sought medical help immediately, or so he says. You don’t speak if you don’t have to, only offering quiet yes’s and no’s.
Doc is finishing up when you do finally speak a full sentence. “When am I cleared to skate again?”
Doc sighs, like who knew the question was coming. “Well, that’ll be up to you.”
He moves around the room, gathering things for your kit while speaking. “You wanna get better fast, you’re gonna have to take care of that ankle.” he walks over, handing you the kit and paperwork. “That means no agitating it, no skating, and definitely no competition.”
You knew this was coming but hearing it breaks your heart. You feel your eyes start to water again.
“Look,” Doc starts. “I'm really sorry. I knew how much this meant to you.” His words go in one ear and out the other. You silently stand up and grab all your things. You can’t bear to be in this rink anymore. You reach for the newly prescribed crutches and adjust yourself. Doc watches silently. You whisper a quiet thank you and goodbye. You make your way out of the building, trying your best to ignore all the stares. The rink, now busy with people waiting for the upcoming game.
Everyone pushes to get in when you want nothing more than to get out. Every look you receive is filled with pity that you don’t want. You finally make it out, trekking through the parking lot to get to your car. Once you're in you turn it on and drive in silence. When you're in your dorm you head straight to bed. Holding onto one last hope that all of this is just a dream.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You know you shouldn’t be here. Well, technically nothing is stopping you from being here. But with Coach currently giving you the cold shoulder, Doc banning you from skating, and James on your hate list, Coming to the rink might not be the smartest of ideas.
That is why you are here right now, at night. You’ve been out for over a week and feel like you’ve been going stir-crazy in your room. Technically the rink is closed. It has been for the past three hours. However, you know Burnie, the maintenance man, doesn’t leave until a while after.
You’re shaking in the cold when you see him walk out the front, going to lock it. He smiles when he sees you. You can't help but smile back. “Hey Burnie.”
“Hey sweetheart” He greets you with just as much enthusiasm as always. “Whatcha doing here?”
“I forgot a couple of things in the locker room. Thought it might be time I come and get it.”
He eyes you suspiciously. You can’t help but laugh. “Burnie I promise I’m just here for some things. Look, no bag, no skates,” you say as you spin in a circle for him.
He reaches to steady you. “Woah okay now. Be careful on that foot.” he sighs. “Alright sweetheart, I'm gonna trust you on this, run in and grab your things and I’ll wait for you right here.”
“What, Burnie no. I'm not gonna make you wait out here in the cold. Plus you shouldn’t have to stay a second later. I already feel bad keeping you right now.”
Burnie’s still wavering. You sigh. “Look Burnie, I’m in a boot and I don’t know if you know this but these are a pain to take off. Both literally and physically. I just need to grab my things but I don’t want you waiting out here on me when you could be halfway home.”
“Fine. You’ve convinced me. Don’t let me find out that you were skating or we're gonna have some problems, sweetheart.”
You giggle pointing at your boot. “Burnie, I already told you I can’t.”
He waves a hand, walking away. “Knowing you? You’d find a way. There are keys in Remus's desk. Lock the front door when you're done.”
“Sir yes Sir.”
You make your way into the lockers, finding your bag of things that you always leave here. You grab it and walk out to the rink. You slump down onto the bench. You start rummaging through your bag. You smile as you find all sorts of knick-knacks.
You pull out what you were looking for, your old skates. You smile fondly as you remember the skating you did in them. Your happiness morphed into sadness when remembering the people who bought you the skates. You hadn’t seen your parents since you moved out to college. Your skating was too mediocre for them to fly out and watch. You remember every single time they turned down your invitations, telling you it would be “A waste of time”.
How could that be? You had everyone telling you you’re the best skater they’ve seen in ages. You have a world champion for a coach. You have so many people coming out to watch you. How can you have all of that and it still not be enough to make your parents see you?
This is why you had to be fantastic. You were supposed to be perfect this year and the last and you ruined it. You still hadn’t told your parents about your injury. You could still hear your mother on the phone from last year. The disappointment, the lack of worry for her child, and worst of all, her deadpan voice muttering into the phone, “What did we expect, knowing you.”
You’re squeezing the skates tightly, you feel your breath pick up. You pinch your eyes shut. Nonono this cannot be happening. You know this feeling all too well. You put your hands over your ears and bring your head down. You feel the familiar tightness in your chest. You try to breathe in and out but your airways feel constricted. You sit up and start rummaging through your bag looking for an inhaler. You find one and pull it out, panicking more when you realize that it’s out of pumps. You can feel your heartbeat in your ears. Hearing the heavy thump over and over again. You get up. You know you have one in your car, you just have to make it out there.
You start walking, trying your best to slow down your breathing. You can start to see the light coming from the front when you hear someone unlocking the door. You walk around the corner, fully expecting to see Burnie who’s come back to kick you out. You freeze when the person turns around.
You and James both stop in your places both gasping in shock.
“Jesus Christ you scared the shit out of me,” he says with a hand over his heart.
You don’t have time for James, so you walk right past him. James takes your silence as an insult.
“Are you still ignoring me?” you don’t answer, you fumble to get the keys out of your pocket. Reaching to unlock the door. When you do, you book it out to the parking lot. You can hear James following you.
“Seriously, you don’t show up for a week and then I find you here in the middle of the night. What were you doing anyways?” he continues behind you. James' tone changes, seeming to land on the only possible explanation. “You were skating weren’t you?” you get your car keys out of your pocket and start clicking on the unlock button over and over again.
“God” he scoffs, “You’re insane. That has to be the only explanation.” whatever else James says you can’t hear. The pain in your chest is unbearable and you start to cough at the lack of air in your lungs. The cold makes every sharp inhale burn. You finally make it to your car and swing the back door open. You jump in, yanking your bag out from under the seat. You dig through it and pull your inhaler out. You bring it to your mouth and inhale instantly.
You sit up, breathing in. Your eyes are closed but you can hear James' shoes scuff to a stop right outside your open door. You stay like this for a while. You finally feel your heart start to slow and the burning in your chest is subsiding. You open your eyes and see James staring back at you with wide eyes.
“Holy shit you have asthma?”
His complete 180 in emotions gives you whiplash.
“Yes you dickhead, I have asthma.”
James completely disregards the insult. “You had asthma this whole time. That's what Doc was asking about right? Or that time on the ice? When you get winded?”
You just nod.
“Yeah, you’re definitely insane.” you lean forward to smack his arm. “Quit calling me crazy!”
James rests a hand on the top of the car, leaning in, getting a better look at you in the back seat.
“I’m not calling you crazy. I’m calling you insane.”
You cross your arms. “So what, I have asthma. Plenty of athletes have asthma,” you say, looking up at him.
James runs a hand through his hair. “That isn’t the point. I just wish- If you could just-” Without another word he’s getting into the backseat, pushing you over to make room for him.
James clears his throat. “Listen, I’m going to say something and I need you to listen.”
Whatever you're about to say, James doesn’t let you. “Promise. Promise you won’t say anything until I’m finished talking.” You stare down at James' hand, pinky extended, waiting for yours.
You wrap your pinky around his. He drops his hand but keeps his finger interlocked with yours. You don’t pull away.
“I think you should take a break from skating.”
You roll your eyes. You push away from James but his pinky tightens around yours.
“Wait! You promised you’d listen.”
He’s got a desperate look on his face. “I watch you.”
“James what?”
“Okay no, but yes.” He clarifies. “God I’m really bad at this. What I want to say is that I notice you okay? The second you started skating here I noticed you.”
“You are frustratingly good on the ice. You’ve gotten title after title and it's got everything to do with you” James looks down, fidgeting with your joint pinkies. Ears red. “But ever since your incident last year you’ve gotten so…” he trails off looking for the right word. “Aggressive”
“You’ve gotten so aggressive with your technique, on the ice, and with yourself. There’s something different about you. Everyone thinks it's a newfound determination but I can see it in your eyes, it’s something else. You skate with no regard for your body. What happens when you push it too far? What happens when you force yourself so hard that your body gives up on you? What will you do then?”
The silence is heavy over you both. You look at James and he looks back at you with so much emotion, searching for an answer.
You let out a shaky breath. “What am I if I can’t skate? Can you tell me, James?”
He stumbles over his words, clearly thrown off by your question. He comes up blank.
“Exactly. Skating is all I have, it’s all I am.”
James shakes his head. “No, that isn’t true.”
You let out an exasperated laugh. “Do you think I’d be here right now if it weren’t for my skating? I’m here because it’s what I'm good at. I have so many people betting on me, so many expectations to uphold, so many people to prove that I’m worth it.”
James leans in closer and speaks gently. “Why do you think that you aren’t already the best? Why is it so hard to believe that you are amazing at what you do?”
His gentle tone does little to comfort you. He doesn’t get it. “If I’m so great how come my parents won’t come to see me?” you yell, your tone coming off harsher than you had intended.
You recognize the emotion behind James' stare, it’s pity and you hate it.
You can’t bear to look at him, embarrassed by your outburst.
“Hey,” you keep your gaze towards your lap.
“Hey, look at me.” you feel his hand come under your chin as he lifts your face to meet his eyes.
He unlatches his pinky from yours and brings his hand up to hold your face.
“Is that what it is, you feel like you’ve got a crowd to appeal to? Well, guess what? You don’t owe anyone anything. You skate because you love it not because you feel the need to meet intangible expectations. If your parents can’t see how good you are then that's on them, you don’t need them.”
You groan and reach for his wrist, pulling his hand away from your face. “That's easy for you to say.”
James furrows his brows at that, “What’s that supposed to mean.”
“You have your parents here offering you endless support. No offense, but you could sit out an entire game and they’d still whoop and holler about how proud they are of you. You have a team that worships the ground you walk on. You have Remus and Sirius. What do I have? Who do I have? Coach?” You raise a hand to wipe away your tears but it’s no use. “I’m a thousand miles away from everything and everyone that I love. Being good, no, being fucking fantastic is the only way to get their attention. So if that’s what I need to be then so be it.”
You let out one shaky breath and it all breaks loose. You bury your head in your hands, trying to muffle whatever mess you look like from James. After a short moment of sobbing into your hands, you feel hands pull at your arms. Before you know it, James is pulling you into a warm embrace.
The angle is a bit awkward, considering the size of your backseat but he still manages to get his arms wrapped around you. Your head lands on his chest, ear pressed against it. You stiffen at first but slowly wrap your arms around him. You both sit in silence. He gently runs a hand up and down your back, while the other rests on the back of your head, holding it. You listen to the beat of his heart, which moves rapidly. You can’t help but smile slightly. Despite being the one to make a bold gesture, he’s the nervous one.
“You aren’t as alone as you think.”
“What?” You go to lift your head but James pushes it back onto his chest. Heart beating quicker.
“You're Not alone. You have Sirius and Remus, just as much as I do if not more. They adore you a little too much. And whether you believe it or not you have Doc and just about everyone else who you cross paths with in the rink.”
He clears his throat for the next one. “And you have me.”
It’s said so quickly you almost miss it. You’re sure you would’ve if you weren’t so close to him.
You go to lift your head again but he pushes it back down. You groan. “James.”
He doesn’t respond. You go to move but he holds you in place again. “James Potter, let me look at you.”
He doesn’t budge, “I’d rather you didn’t”
“James, if you don’t let me move, so help me god.”
Your tone seems to do it. His hand slips from where it rested on your head. Once you get a good look at him, you almost laugh at the sight in front of you. James Potter, Red in the face, with a look of embarrassment so bad, he could die. He looks everywhere but at you. Eyes darting around the car.
“James”
“Yes?”
“Look at me.”
He does for a second and then looks away.
“James,” you say sternly.
“Yes?” He says picking at the seats.
Without putting much thought into it you smack both hands on his face, forcing him to look at you. You seemed to surprise him more than yourself. James stares at you with wide eyes. You’d done it without thinking and how you have no course of action.
You both blink at each other.
“What was it that you said just now?”
He doesn’t turn away this time. That's progress. “What were we talking about?” he says with a dazy voice. You look at him expectantly. James, who realizes he has nowhere to go, blurts it out.
“I said that you have me. There. Happy?” he doesn't stop there. “I said you have me because you do. All the time, every day I'm thinking about you, which is crazy considering how much you berate me. But that must be it. I must be crazy because I love it all the same. I care about you, even though half the time you make me want to slam my head into a locker, I care. So, yes, you have me.”
Through your hands, you feel the heat of his face. Despite the strong blush and red ears, James looks at you so earnestly that you can’t help what comes next.
Hands still on his face you pull him forward into a kiss. He freezes and you pull away. Just for a split moment, you worry that you made a mistake. But before you know it James surges forward, reconnecting your lips. Whatever hesitation there was before, is gone now.
His lips move against yours slowly, tentatively, exploring. You feel a finger trace the line of your jaw. Then the hand slips behind your head, bringing you closer. The sweet kiss now deepened with the hunger shared between you both. You raise your arms to wrap around his neck. You feel like you can’t breathe but you don’t stop.
With his newfound confidence, James moves forward. Your back hits the seat and James hovers over you now. He moves to lay himself over you. You feel his hand running up and down your side. You gasp into the kiss when a cold hand slips under your shirt, resting on your bare waist. James groans at the feeling of your bare skin, squeezing your side. You can feel your heartbeat in your ears. You don’t want to stop, ever. But the more James runs his hands over you and kisses you with an insatiable passion, the less you can breathe.
You ignore it at first, but the aching in your chest only gets stronger. You feel like you’re drowning, and you decide that hyperventilating while making out isn’t the way to go so in one swift motion you sit up, pushing James off of you.
You breathe in harshly. James now sits up straight, staring at you wide-eyed, glasses askew. You laugh but it sends you right into a coughing fit. You start to panic a bit and search for your inhaler. James snaps out of his daze and seems to get the memo. After what feels like forever, James lifts the inhaler. “Got it” he yells triumphantly.
Snatching it from his hand, you take a couple of puffs, breathing in and out slowly.
“Woah. I guess you could say I took your breath away.”
You shoot him a look but can’t help but burst out laughing. James' laugh follows.
“No, seriously though. Are you okay?”
“Yes, I’m fine. Just a bit winded.”
James smirks, seemingly a bit too proud. “Sorry about that,” he says with fake sympathy.
“Sorry about what? Trying to eat my face off or trying to take me in the back of my car?”
James' face goes bright red. You don’t understand how he can be so confident yet so easily embarrassed.
“I-I okay, woah, I-” He stutters over his words.
“Gosh James, I thought you’d have a bit more class than that.”
He scoffs, “I have plenty of class and I don’t think I heard any complaints from you.”
You shrug, “Could’ve been better.”
James' jaw falls open in disbelief. “Oh really now.”
“Yup”
Before you know it he’s bringing you down to your back and you let out a yelp of surprise.
“Well since you’re so great I guess you’ll have to help me practice.”
You hum. “Oh yes, you’ll need all the practice you can get.”
James lets out a loud laugh, making your heart flutter. “Yeah, well let's hope you don’t have to reach for your inhaler every 5 minutes.”
You smack his shoulder. “Hey! I am a star athlete. I don’t think a little acti-”
James cuts you off, bringing his lips to yours. This time it's soft and sweet. James pulls away. “Talking to you is going to be a lot easier now that I can do that.”
“Keep talking and that’ll be the last time you get to do that.”
James nods quickly. “Yes ma’am. Message received.”
With a nod from you, James is back on you. He leans into you heavily, moving his lips with yours. You reach up for his glasses, feeling them start to dig into your face. James' hand comes to your wrist, stopping you. Pulling away, he rushes out a ‘wait!’
You look at him confused. “What?”
“Don’t take them off.”
“James, as much as I love your glasses, they’re digging into my face.”
James blinks at you with a slight pout on his face. “I can’t see anything when I take them off.”
“Okay?”
He sighs, “I can’t see you when I take them off.”
You roll your eyes at him. “James Potter you are such a sap.”
He rolls his eyes back at you. “Yeah, well you’ll just have to deal with it.”
“I suppose I will. Okay they can stay on”
James smiles brightly. “Yay! Now shut up and let me kiss you.”
And who are you to deny him?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Alright, you guys did great today! Don’t forget to tell your parents that there won't be any classes next week.” you hear a chorus of answers promising they will. Considering you’re talking to a bunch of toddlers, you make a mental note to send out an email.
You guide them off the ice and towards their parents, waving bye to them all.
You’ve been helping teach the toddler class while their coach is out of town. Doc hadn't fully cleared you but gave you the green light to teach the little ones.
You make your way towards the office to drop off the sign-in forms. When you walk in, you’re greeted by a smiling Remus.
“Hello, love. How are the tots?”
You give him a tired smile, “Rambunctious as always.”
Remus laughs, taking the papers from you. “You think you’d take this opportunity to get away from this place but no.”
You lean forward on the counter. “And miss out on seeing you every day? No way.”
Remus shakes his head, turning away from you. Ears slightly pink. “You’re insufferable.”
Before you can respond you hear someone else enter the office. More like two someones.
James and Sirius walk over to where you’re talking to Remus. James' eyes shift from you to Remus’ red ears and then back to you.
“Hey, I thought I told you to stop flirting with Remus.” He says with a slight frown.
You shrug, “I’ve done no such thing.”
James rolls his eyes. “Yeah right. Liar.”
Sirius and Remus erupt in laughter as James pouts.
Sirius ruffles James' hair. “Oh James, it’s sweet that you think you can stop whatever it is they’ve got going on.”
James huffs, pointing at Remus. “You’ve got to stop whatever alluring charm you’ve got going on.”
Sirius laughs harder. Remus gives James a cheeky smile. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m just myself.”
You swoon dramatically at his words. “Oh, Remus.”
“Hey! No, don't swoon!” James says, looking frantically between the two of you.
Remus and Sirius roar in laughter at his reaction.
With the other two still laughing, James walks over to you. You give him a sweet smile.
He frowns at you. “Why do you insist on giving me a hard time?”
“Someone's got to keep you on your toes, humble you a bit.” He glares at you but breaks into a smile of his own.
With Sirius and Remus now wrapped up in their own conversation, James leans in a bit closer.
“Hm, humble me? How can I be humble when you’re praising me all the time when we-” You slap a hand over his mouth, blushing furiously. You feel him smirk against your hand.
He reaches for your wrist, pulling your hand away, giving it a soft kiss. “How were the lessons?” He says changing the subject.
“They were great. Lenny didn’t cry at all this time.”
He gives you an encouraging pat on the waist. "Nice, and what about your foot?”
You shrug, “It feels fine. I think stretching before ice time helps.”
James smiles. “You’ve been doing the stretches?”
You nod. He gives you a high five “That's my girl.”
He goes silent, looking between you and his friend's chit-chatting. He leans in, whispering into your ear.
“Hey, when's your appointment with Doc again?”
You think for a minute. “Um, not till this afternoon, why?”
“So you’re free right now?”
“Yeah”
“What a coincidence, so am I.” He says with a mischievous look in his eyes.
A moment pauses.
“Well. What are you waiting for?”
James springs into action. His hand grabs yours, leading the both of you out of the office.
“Hey, where are the two going?”
Without turning around James yells out “Practice” You can’t help but laugh at the confused responses you get from Sirius and Remus.
James continues down his path, determined.
“Wait James, what about my bag and my-”
He pats the side of his bag. Hanging from a chain is one of your backup inhalers. You stare at him in shock. With a quick kiss on the forehead and a cheeky smile, James continues to drag you both out of the rink.
Practice does ensue.

Meet Me in the Corner pt.5

Peter Parker x Reader
Pt.1, Pt.2, Pt.3, Pt.4, Pt.5
Summary: You and Peter have a museum date?
Ignore all typos or I will CRY MYSELF to sleep.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You were sleeping peacefully until you weren't.
You're woken up by something heavy falling on top of you. You groan, winded by something sharp going into your side. It takes you a minute to realize what’s happening. Finally the fuzziness leaves your eyes, you see it's Mar, just getting back from her night out.
You try to turn over. “Ow Mar, get your bony elbow out of my side.”
Mar gasps, “my elbows are not boney.”
Not being able to turn over, you decide on trying to push Mar off the bed.
Mar doesn't budge. “No, you don't get to sleep after sending a nonchalant message about meeting our one and only superhero Spiderman.”
You groan, “gosh Mar, what time is it?”
“Time for you to get up.”
You turn your head to look out your window and low and behold the sun is coming up.
“What the hell Mar, you're just getting home?”
Mar spreads her arms out, hitting your face in the process. “Yes, I just had the most amazing night of my life. Remember that coworker I was telling you about, well he-.” she cuts herself off, “wait, no, this is not nearly as important as what you got up to last night.”
You pat whatever you can reach, opting for her head. “Aw Mar, your midnight escapades are very important to me.”
Mar swats your hand away. “Oh quit it, spill the beans or my bony elbow is going back into your side.”
“Well, I met Spiderman.” is all you offer.
Mar's elbow does indeed go back into your side.
“Oh you're such a little shit.”
You can't help but laugh. “Okay okay. I went out last night to buy some snacks. Some psycho snatches them out of my hands and takes off down the road. I chase them, of course and-.”
Mar elbows you again. “What do you mean ‘of course’, you do not chase thieves down the street, that is dangerous.”
You speak to her. “Hey, are you Spiderman?”
Mar deadpans, “what?”
“You sound just like him.”
Mar sighs, “I fear it's common sense not to chase dangerous people down the road, but whatever, continue.”
You shimmy in your spot trying to get more comfortable. “Well , Spiderman brought my snacks back, gave me a lecture, and walked me to the building.”
“Where in all of this did you get the impression that he was mean, sounds like normal superhero stuff to me.”
You pout, “he called me one of the 'really dumb ones' and yelled at me.”
Mar chuckles, “yeah well I agree with him on this one.”
You scoff, finally getting enough energy, you get up and shove Mar off of you.
She shrieks on her way down to the ground. “You’re the mean one.”
You step over her and walk to the bathroom, “Whatever, you’ll be fine.”
Mar gets up from her spot on the ground. She catches up with you and throws her arms over your shoulders. “You’re so snippy lately, you're lucky I love you.”
With that you drag yourself and Mar to the bathroom, you getting ready and her doing the opposite.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You check the time again. Peter is late. Peter is late to the meet up he planned.
You consider leaving but decide to give grace.
Five more minutes pass and you decide you don’t feel graceful anymore. You stand up from the bench you've been hanging out on and try to decide where you'll head to.
You start to hear a faint yelling, then it gets louder. “WAIT.”
You look towards the direction of the yelling and there you spot Peter running right towards you.
He comes barreling towards you and you stick your arms out without thinking. Peter runs right into you knocking both of you to the ground. You both let out groans of pain.
Peter jumps to his feet and sticks out his hand to help you up. You take it.
You wince at the pain you now have in your back. “What the hell Peter, you just whipped me out.”
Peter gives a sheepish smile, “Sorry, totally did not mean to do that, sometimes I don't know my own strength.”
Peter changes the subject. “Anyways sorry I’m late, I had to run from Main Street but I'm here so please be nice and don't leave.”
“What are you talking about? I am always a ray of sunshine.”
Peter gulps, “um, yeah sure.”
Well Peter, maybe I’m not nice to you because you embarrassed me and-
Maybe you won’t go there.
“Glad we agree, so what do you have planned for us?”
Peter snaps his fingers, remembering why he’s here in the first place. “I was thinking we’d head to the banquet venue. Scope it out.”
“Okay, yeah we can do that.”
“great, lead the way.”
You and Peter walk to the art center. No one says anything, leaving you both in silence. That is until Peter decides to break that silence.
“So,” He says dragging the O, “Did you get up to anything last night?”
“Um” Yes actually, I chased a man down because he took my snacks and then got scolded and called dumb by the one and only Spiderman. “No, nothing crazy.”
Peter furrows his brows and stares you down like he knows something you don’t.
“Did you get up to anything interesting Peter?” you question, feeling mildly uncomfortable by his stare.
It’s Peter’s turn to evade. “Uh no, just had homework, you know at home, inside.” he lifts a hand to scratch his neck and looks away.
This is the second time Peter has given you odd vibes in the past two days. You feel like interrogating, so you do.
“You're a bad liar.” okay not really interrogating, more like calling him out.
“What, I am not lying, why would I lie about my night?”
You shrug, “I don't Peter, why would you?”
Peter turns the accusations on to you. “I think you're projecting.”
“What?
“Yeah, I think you're projecting and you're the one lying about your night.”
“Hm, no I think it's definitely you.”
“It’s not! It's you!” Peter points his finger at you accusingly, which you swat away.
“Okay, perhaps it's both of us.”
“I-okay i can settle for that one.”
“Okay.”
“Okay.”
Back to silence.
Luckily your bickering helped pass the time and you’ve made it to the art center.
Peter rubs his hands together. “Alright, so this is where you pull out the art friend card.”
You give a blank stare.
“What?”
“Or, and hear me out on this one, we just go inside.”
“What, I thought your art friend could sneak us in.”
“Austin doesn't have to sneak us in Peter, students get in for free.”
“Oh.”
You can't help but laugh at Peter, jogging up the stairs to get inside and out of the cold.
When you both make it inside, you show your IDs to the doorman and are free to roam from there.
You’ve been here plenty of times, but it doesn’t stop you from looking at all the pieces thoroughly.
You stop to stare at one piece when you feel Peter come up behind you.
“You’ve really nailed the pensive thinking look.”
You snort. “Thanks I’ve worked really hard on it.”
You and Peter dance around the open space. Stopping every now and then to look at certain pieces. Peter surprises you when he points out a piece.
“Hey, what about this one?”
“Oh I actually really like this one. It was made by a senior about two years ago.”
Peter continues to stare at the picture. “Is that paint? Did they paint this?”
“Mhm, she’d go to the same spot on different days and paint what she’d see. Capturing different cars, people, or the way the light would shift at different times of the day. Overlapping what was on the canvas from the day before.”
Peter shakes his head. “I don't think I'd be able to do that.”
“Do what?”
“Paint something different each time, I’d want it perfect, in unison, you know.”
You nod your head. “I get that. That's what's really cool about the piece. Kinda tells what type of person you are.”
Peter hums. “Very thought-provoking.”
You giggle.
You continue to show Peter around. You start to feel like your info is dumping on Peter, but he insists that he wants to know.
“What's your favorite piece?”
“What?”
Peter asks again. “Which one is your favorite piece?”
“Um, I really like all of them, in their own special way, but I guess if I had to choose it would be the glass piece.”
Peter looks around. “I don’t see a glass piece.”
“Well that's because it’s kind of hidden. Follow me.”
You lead Peter down a hall when you get to the end of it, there's a room tucked into a corner.
The lights dimmed way lower than the rest of the building. At first, it looks like you aren't supposed to be over here at all but once you turn the corner, Peter sees what you're talking about.
There are dozens of glass sculptures littered around the room and pieces hanging from the ceiling. There are little moving lights on the ground, reflecting off the glass and causing it to shimmer around the room. Other than that it's pretty dark.
Peter looks really hard, questioning how someone has managed to make this. Peters is positive about what each sculpture represents.
“It's rain.”
You smile at his amazement “yup”
Peter is still in awe. “It's like actual rain.” He looks up at the ceiling and down to the floor. “They even made raindrops and fragments splattering.”
You walk around with your hands behind your back. You let Peter enjoy the art.
After inspecting each sculpture, he finally speaks up. “This is insane, how have I never heard about this before?”
You shrug, “I don’t know, I guess with everything else going on here, it's easy to miss.”
“Tell me about this one, no way it’s a student.” he quickly doubles down. “Not to say a student couldn't do this, but- well- you get what I mean.”
You chuckle, “No, this one isn't a student, believe it or not it's actually from an anonymous donor.”
This gets Peter. “What! You're lying.”
You shake your head. “I know I reacted the same way. Austin and I spent weeks trying to get a name for who did this but we came up with nothing.”
Peter, is still baffled. “Who on Earth would take the time to make something like this and just give it to a university to put in some back hallway?”
“If it helps, it's definitely an alum or a local. The museum only takes student and alum work or local work.”
Peter, without skipping a beat, says. “We gotta find this person.”
You give him a questionable look, “Peter, you can not be serious.”
Peter turns to you and gives you the most serious look you've ever seen. “I'm being so serious, I've never been more serious in my life. I gotta know why someone wouldn’t put a name to this.”
“You're insane.”
“No, I'm determined.”
“The whole point of anonymous pieces is to remain a mystery.”
“Well I love a good mystery and I'm gonna solve this one.”
You sigh while rubbing your forehead. “Okay Peter, you go on your quest to find the raindrop artist.”
Peter blinks at you. “Yeah, that's what we're gonna do.”
You Peter continue to bicker, you don't even notice that someone else has walked into the room.
“Oh, I knew you'd be back here.”
You and Peter cease your arguing and turn towards the new person. Your face lights up when you see who it is.
“Austin!.” you walk up to him and give him a tight hug that he reciprocates.
“You should have told me you were coming. I would've come down sooner.”
You break the hug. “Sorry, it was on a whim. Also , I didn't want to bother you and your curative duties.”
Austin ruffles your hair. “Oh whatever, I've always got time for when you stop by.”
You hear a throat clear from behind you.
Oh, Peter, you forgot he was there.
“By the way, Austin this is Peter, he’s my partner for that Cal project I was telling you about.”
You turn to look at Peter but he’s already made his way up next to you. He pauses and stares at Austin for a second too long then reaches his hand out. “Hey I’m Peter.”
Austin does the same. “Hey man, I heard you guys were gonna work the Gala for your project.”
Peter just offered a “yeah”.
You clap your hands “Well, we'll let you get back to work. See you later.”
Austin gives you both a wave goodbye and you head out to the front.
Once you're outside you give Peter a light shove. “That was awkward.”
Peter shrugs, “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
You scoff, “Whatever, it’s like you guys were having a conversation with your eyes.”
Peter shoves you back, “No it did not, you have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Are you gaslighting me right now?”
“No”
“It feels like you are.”
“Well that's crazy, cause im not.”
“But that's, like, exactly what a gaslighter would say.”
Peter turns away from you. “You’re crazy.”
You gasp, “Woah! Yeah you’re totally textbook gaslighting me.”
Peter, seemingly tired of this banter, starts to walk away.
You don’t know why but you follow. You don’t really say much to one another, there's small talk here and there but no one makes the first move to part ways. Suddenly, you hear your phone ping. You check to see who it is and it’s Mar letting you know that dinner on her tonight. You grimace, Mar is not the best cook but you can’t discourage her in her endeavors. You start to walk slower, looking down at your phone, texting Mar back. You glance up every now and then, seeing that Peter is much more ahead of you. Your phone pings again and you look down. You shake your head at Mar's messages, you start typing to reply when you hear a car honk and you get yanked to the side.
You’ve dropped your phone and it takes you a minute to realize what just happened. The car in question speeds off down the road. You feel someone grab your shoulders. You look up and it’s Peter.
“Are you okay?” He seems frantic, eyes running all over you, like he's looking for injuries.
You nod.
He nods.
“Good, that’s good. Now why the hell are you looking down at your phone when you’re crossing the road.”
This feels familiar. You’re being scolded. Again.
You huff, “It’s a crosswalk on a campus. I had the right of way.”
Peter lets out a breath. “You.” he pauses, “you’re unbelievable.”
That's all he says and then bends down to hand you your phone.
You don’t really know where to go from here. In all honesty, you're embarrassed. You almost got hit by a car and everyone was around to see it. Not only did they see you almost see you get hit by a car, but they also saw you get scolded by Peter.
You think you’d take the car hitting you over that.
Peter hands you your phone. “Here, your precious is safe.”
You mutter a quiet thank you. Peter just waves you off. “Yeah yeah, you're welcome. Now let's get you home, you’re a safety hazard.”
You try not to delve on the fact that Peter is offering to walk you home. Well, he’s not really offering, he’s insisting However , for some odd reason, you don’t find yourself objecting.

Meet Me in the Corner pt.4
Peter Parker x Reader
Pt.1, Pt.2, Pt.3, Pt.4
Summary: Nolan's not that bad, Peter is still Peter and a certain masked man is a bit mean?
Ignore all typos or ill cry<3
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nolan has been talking your ear off for the past fifteen minutes.
He’s managed to pass through about a dozen topics. You're 100% sure it's the coffee.
You don’t really get to talk, not that you mind. He’s kept you fairly entertained.
“That night was insane, we got home at like 6:30 in the morning and had a stats final at 7:45.”
You chuckle, “You guys are insane.”
Nolan laughs with you, “what's more insane, is that Peter aced the exam. He only missed two questions.”
You roll your eyes, of course he did.
Nolan catches you. “Woah, what's with the eye roll?”
“I did not roll my eyes.”
“Uh yes you did, I just saw you.”
You sigh, “It’s nothing.”
“It's definitely something.”
Okay so Peter and Nolan are both annoying. Makes for a great pair of buds.
“It’s just annoying.”
Nolan leans back in his chair. “What's annoying?”
You shrug, “That Peter is academically inclined. Just makes him more annoying to me.”
Nolan nods and hums. “I see there’s still some animosity there.” Funny, Peter said the same thing earlier.
“Yeahh” you say, dragging the word. “A bit.”
Nolan places his coffee down and leans forwards. “I thought he was going to apologize.”
So Peter talked about this with Nolan. That is oddly endearing.
“He did, or tried.”
“Oh god, what did he say?”
You cross your arms. “He said a whole lot of nothing if I'm being honest.”
Nolan shakes his head, “Oh Parker.”
You expected that Nolan would be quick to defend him, but he doesn’t.
“Can I ask you something?”
Nolan nods.
You fidget, “it may be a bit invasive.”
Nolan leans in closer. “I love invasive.”
This gives you the courage to ask your burning question. “What's with the friend group?”
Nolans eyes widened, clearly not expecting that question.
You immediately double down. “Actually nevermind, I take it back.”
Nolan shakes his head, “No, no, I get it.”
Nolan ponders for a second. “They were really nasty towards you and I'm sorry on their behalf.”
Oh wow, you did not expect that.
Nolan continues. “They're all a bit protective of their clique, i'd say they're not always like that, or you caught them on a bad day but i'd be lying.” he sighs before continuing. “It’s just been our group for as long as I can remember and I know that's not an excuse but it's my explanation.”
You look down at your coffee cup, “Okay, I guess I can understand that.”
You can’t, you really can’t, but these people aren’t your friends and their choice of company isn’t your business.
“Can I tell you something?” This time it's Nolan asking the question.
You nod.
“I think Charlotte was so mean because she felt intimidated.”
Now that is a shocker.
“What? By who? By me?”
Nolan chuckles at your confusion.
“Yeah, you.”
You are beyond confused. “No way, why?”
Nolan leans on the table with his chin resting on his hand. “Peter talks about you, you know.”
No, you didn’t know.
“I think maybe she felt threatened. Peter never really talks about anyone outside of our friend group. He mingles sure but he’s never really brought someone up the way he did with you.”
You want to curl in a hole and die when you feel your cheeks start to heat up. If Nolan notices he doesn’t say anything.
You snap your head up when you recall something. “Wait, but Peter was the one that told you guys about my oh so sad life and problems with Cal.”
Nolan winces, “yeah he did do that.”
Okay, well point lost for Peter.
“Look, Peter can be a dumbass sometimes. I don’t really know why he says some of the things he does but I can tell you he regrets it most of the time.”
He’s regretful? Half a point back to Peter.
“He sounds like a big ol 'ball of complicated and I really don’t need that right now.”
Nolan sighs, “shame, I think you’d be really good for him.”
You laugh at Nolans antics but quickly stop.
Wait. Why would he say that? Is this not a date? Who talks their boy up on date with a girl they like?
Nolan senses your confusion. “Whatcha thinking about?”
You're quiet for a second. You begin to fidget with your coffee. “I’m just a bit confused I guess.”
“About what?”
You tip your cup side to side. “It's just.” you pause, “I’ve never had a guy rout for his friend to be with someone he’s on a date with.”
Nolan looks beyond lost and now you really want to curl up into a ball and die.
Is this not a date?
You’re quick to speak before Nolan can get a word out. “Sorry, its just that, Peter mentioned that you had a crush and that he wanted to help you out.”
Nolan nods slowly, really taking in what he just heard.
All of sudden, it's like something has clicked in his head. “Oh, like Peter said that early, at the library?”
You nod.
Nolan nods with you, “Right, yes, this is true.”
odd , this feels very odd. “Is that not true?”
Nolan shakes his head frantically. “NO, no it's true, I just can't believe Peter would say that. What a silly guy.”
Nolan, who has been nothing but lax this entire time, starts to fidget with his coffee now.
Okay, you've made him uncomfortable and now you feel bad.
“Hey, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said anything.”
Nolan whips his hand out to grab your arm across the table. “No, do not feel bad. You see, I just got out of a bad situationship.”
Oh no.
“Oh my gosh really?”
Nolan closes his eyes and nods dramatically. “Yes, the worse.”
You put your hand on his. “Oh, I'm sorry.”
Nolan frowns, “yeah and Peter, oh that Peter, has been throwing everyone he can at me.”
Okay, Point lost for Peter, again.
You frown with Nolan. “What an ass.”
Nolan shakes his head. “No, he’s just trying to help. But like I said, a bit of a dumbass.”
Nolan continues, “Anyways, you’re fantastic but I just can't do a relationship right now.”
You’ve never been so happy to be rejected, you let out a breath you didn’t know you were holding.
Nolan seems to take offense to this. “Okay, you seem oddly okay with that.”
You shrug, “that's because I am. I've got too much going on. friend vibes only.”
Nolan pats your arm. “Okay ouch, but I’m totally okay with that.”
Well, that went well.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You and Nolan ended up ordering something to eat and stayed in the cafe, chatting away.
You’re both in a heated argument about the Harry Potter movies when someone scuffs to a stop next to your table. You both look up and are surprised to see Peter.
He looks like he ran here. He also smells like gas?
“Hey!” he says loudly. Interrupting the calm atmosphere.
He doesn’t seem to care and pulls a chair from the table next to you guys.
You and Nolan both stare at him while he immediately goes to pick at Nolans leftovers.
He winces when Nolan swats at his hands.
“Get your hands out of my food. What are you doing here? I'm on a date, remember?”
Nolan has a smug smile, while staring at Peter, who's now sitting up straight in his chair.
“Oh yeah, I totally forgot about that. Was running some errands nearby and thought I’d get something to drink.”
This time you speak up, “really? That's so crazy, considering you sent us here.”
Nolan smirk grows wider. “Yeah, super crazy.”
Peter looks between the both of you, clearly not expecting the two of you to gain up on him.
Peter gives an awkward chuckle, “anyways, how is it going?”
Nolan grins, “fantastic honestly.”
Peters got a surprised look on his face. “Wait, really?”
You offer a simple yeah.
Peter drums his fingers on the table, “great as in?”
Nolan sighs, “great as it can go after being rejected.”
You scoff, “I did not reject you, if anything you rejected me.”
“No” Nolan says, “It was honestly mutual. Shame really.”
You don’t notice but Peter seems to relax in his seat.
“Well, that’s unfortunate. At least you can say you tried.” Peter says as he picks at Nolans' leftovers again.
“Hey man, never said I was done trying.” Nolan's got a smug look on his face.
You and Peter both shoot a look towards Nolan, who is completely unphased.
“Well”, you being, “This was great but I really have to go now.”
You begin to gather your trash and Nolan gets up with you. “Where you headed? I’ll walk with you.”
Nolan snatches his leftovers from Peter and proceeds to follow behind you. Nolan’s been good company so you don’t deny him when he asks to join you.
You're both out the door when you hear Peter call after the two of you. “Wait, let me join you guys.”
You both continue walking but Peter catches up eventually. Nolan looks at Peter, “Thought you were gonna grab something to drink.”
Peter stumbles. “I-, I got full picking off your food, so im all good now.”
Nolan rolls his eyes.
The three of you continue to walk down through campus when you see a crowd near the front of the library.
You stop once you're close enough. “What the hell?”
Nolan goes to tap on someone's shoulder to ask what's happened.
“There was a gas leak from the labs in the basement. Everyone had to evacuate. Luckily someone tipped the police and they got here in time.” the bystander says.
You can't help but feel like you dodged a bullet. That could've been you in there.
Wait.
You shoot a look at Peter, who quickly looks away from you.
Peter warned you not to go in the library earlier, insisted on it even.
Peter also smells like gas.
Peter makes eye contact with you and looks away again.
Something tells you Peter had something to do with this.
You shake your head. You've got to stop overthinking everything, why would Peter have anything to do with this?
You look Peter over again, who proceeds to rock back and forth on his feet doing everything except looking at you.
No, Peter definitely has something to do with this.
Nolan interrupts your thoughts. “Well, glad we stayed outta there.”
“Yeah” you say wearily, “real glad.”
Peter, still refusing to look at you, starts to walk away.
Nolan starts walking with him and you follow.
You guys continue until you a fork in your road.
“Well” Nolan says, “Peter and I are this way.”
“I'm this way.” you say pointing the other way. “It was great seeing you Nolan.” you give him a genuine smile. It drops when you look over to Peter. You give a nod, “Peter.”
Before he can react you turn around and start walking away.
You cant see them but you can hear them.
“Come here you little shit.” you hear Nolan's voice, followed by Peter. “Ow, don’t do that. I'll explain.”
You hear Nolan scoff, “yeah you better.”
And after that, you're too far away to hear the rest.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You know better. You know better than to walk around New York at night.
You’d been at your dorm for a while after leaving Peter and Nolan. You were dying to tell Mar about today, but she texted you that she’d be out late with her coworkers. Not wanting to bother her, you responded with a simple ‘have fun and be safe’.
You’d made yourself a sandwich for dinner and were going to call it a night but had decided you’d watch a movie. The only problem is that you can’t watch a movie without snacks.
It should be fine, you think.
A walk down the block to the convenient store and back, plus there's got to be plenty of people still out and about.
With one final boost of confidence and a strong desire for snacks, you put your shoes and coat on and head out.
The walk there had been fine. You make it to the convenient store and shop to your heart's desire.
You say thank you and goodnight to the old man who’s working the register.
Snack in tow, you are on top of the world. You swing your bag back and forth as you walk back to your dorm. You don't even have time to react, when all the sudden, someone rips your bag from your hand.
Next thing you know, they're taking off down the street.
You aren't thinking when you start chasing the culprit down the street. You’re yelling all sorts of profanities as you try to catch up to the snack thief. You can only run so much before you start to get winded. The cold makes it harder to breathe. You're about to accept defeat when you hear something whoosh by your head.
You're a bit puzzled when you see someone, whoosh by your head.
Excuse me, what?
All you can do is look down the road when you see the thief get yanked back by something. You can't really see what else happens but you stand still in shock.
You think now might be the best time to book it back to your dorm. You don't want to find out what New York has in store for you tonight.
With one final glance, you take off and run as fast as you can back to your building.
All is well, you think, until you hear the familiar whooshing. You scream and run faster.
You don't dare to look behind, scared to see what's there. In a matter of seconds, you’re pulled to a stop.
You’re dead. Mar will be so upset. You will forever be known as the girl who died because she wanted a late night snack.
You'll be damned if you don't go down without a fight. You start swinging your arms in every direction and continue to scream, hoping to get anyones attention.
“Ow, can you hold still?”
That voice sounds a lot less menacing than you imagined.
Against your better judgment, you listen. Slowly you start to calm down but you scream again once you realize who’s in front of you.
“Spiderman!?”
“Yes, Hi, hello, have you calmed down now. You know, you got a good few hits in and I-” he stops, you think he’s staring at you but you can't really tell.
You know, mask and all.
Spiderman clears his throat. “Yes, Spiderman, that is me, and this,” He holds out your bag of snacks, “is yours.”
You slowly take your bag back from him. “Thank you.” you say quietly.
“No Problem.”
You both stand in awkward silence.
Spiderman breaks the silence. “How about I walk back to you’re building?”
You don't really see why to deny it, you're now scared out of your mind, plus, it's spiderman.
“Sure , why not.”
You both begin the walk back to your dorm.
You pull one of the candy bars out of the back and go to open it.
“Are you serious?”
You look over at the masked man next to you.
“What?”
“Don't what me? This is why you came out late at night? For some snacks?”
Your brows furrow at his judgment. “Hey, that's not very friendly and neighborly of you.”
Spiderman scoffs. “And you chased the guy down, what would you have done if he had turned around and tried to fight you for those.”
You’re a bit stunned. You hadn't thought about that.
Spiderman puts a hand on his hip like an upset mother. “Yeah, maybe think about that next time you choose to risk your life for some candy bars and popcorn.”
Spiderman is mean.
You both continue your walk. “Are you mean to everyone person you save?”
“No, just the really dumb ones.”
Okay, rude. “Is there an app where I can give you a bad review?”
Spiderman scoffs. “I just saved your life, maybe be a bit more grateful.”
Okay, yeah, he’s got you there.
Before you know it, you make it your dorm building.
“Well Mr.Spiderman Sir, this is me. Thanks for saving my snacks I guess.”
He justs nods.
You wave goodbye and he waves back. You wait for him to leave but he doesn't.
“You can leave now.”
This time he shakes his head, “nope, gotta make sure you make it back inside.”
You find your key card and fiddle with the door handle. “You do this will everyone you just saved?”
He stands still, and you can’t help but giggle at his stiff stance.
“Um, yes of course I do. Gotta ensure everyone's safety and all.”
His delivery of the line makes you think he's lying, but you won’t call him out on it.
“Well,” you say digging into your bag of snacks, you pull out a candy bar. You toss it over to him. He catches it without even looking. “Consider that thanks for saving my snacks and all that.”
He laughs, “and all that?”
You wave a hand while you walk into your building “yeah, and all that.”
The door shuts and you see him linger for a second. He extends his arm and you see him swing away.
You shoot Mar a text as you head up to your room.
Just met our friendly neighborhood Spiderman.
You send a second text
By the way, kinda mean :(

Meet Me in the Corner pt.3
Peter Parker x Reader
Pt.1, Pt.2, Pt.3, Pt.4
Summary: Mar threatens Peter, Peter apologizes, kind of, and then Peter ambushes you with a blind date.
Please ignore typos or I'll cry <3.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mar did in fact have an ‘I told you so’ moment.
Lucky for you, she didn’t rub it in your face for too long. After hearing about your interaction with Charlotte, it’s safe to say Peter Parker is no longer enemy number one.
Mar is now afraid to leave you alone, scared that you’ll be bullied again, and has insisted on the buddy system.
You are now walking through the dining hall, with a yapping Mar behind you.
“What am I going to do with you? I have to leave for work but you’ll still be here for revising.” Mar says with a pout. You can't help but roll your eyes at her.
“Mar, I love you, so I say this with love and kindness, but I really need you to leave me alone.”
Mar gasps in shock, “That is not love and kindness. That is hate and meanness, but I’ll let it slide because you're in a crummy mood.”
You would deny that you’re in a crummy mood but you’d be lying. You and Peter decided over a very dry email thread that you’d meet up to work on revising the outline. You had told him that it was mostly your part that needed work and there was no point in meeting but he insisted until you agreed.
You continue to bicker with Mar, when she suddenly yanks on your backpack, halting your walking.
“Omg, do not be alarmed but there is an absolute cutie staring at us from the smoothie line.”
You turn your head to try and see who she's talking about but realize who it is soon enough.
You both make eye contact and you dart your eyes anywhere else that isn't on him.
Mar gives you a “subtle” shake. “He waved, oh my gosh he just jumped out of the line.”
You still refuse to look. “Mar can we go please?”
She grabs your shoulders, not letting you move. “Um no way, he’s coming over here.”
Before you know it, Peter is standing in front of the both of you with a sheepish smile. Still oblivious to who he is, Mar flutters her lashes in the most Mar manner.
Peter’s got his eyes on you though. “Hey, didn’t think I’d see you till later.”
You can feel Mar’s eyes burning a hole into your head so you speak up. “Mar, this is that guy from the Cal project.” you could’ve properly introduced him but you're too petty to care.
Mar immediately loses all excitement. “Oh, that guy.” Peter scowls. Too bad.
You nod, “yeah, that guy.” Mar comes around from behind you and links her arm with yours, looking Peter right in the eye. “I’ve got to get to work, but if I get any sort of text message from her about you, I will be here so quick you won’t even see me coming.”
All Peter can do is nod his head.
She turns to look at you with a sweet smile, “Anywho, I will see you later. Please remember to shut the window if you get home before me.” you nod your head dramatically, tired of hearing about the damn window. “Yes yes, I’ll close it.”
Mar gives you a once-over before finally saying bye and glaring at Peter while she walks away.
Peter lightly shivers, “Okay, so I’m assuming she doesn't like me?”
You nod, “Assumption correct.”
There’s an awkward pause.
“Would you believe me if I told you I was in line to get you an apology smoothie?”
You shoot him a look. “No, I wouldn't believe you.”
Peter sucks in a breath, “valid, I was though. But then I saw you and acted before thinking and I didn't even get to order.”
That’s kind of sweet but you are losing it with his back-and-forth behavior. Time to listen to Mar and put your foot down.
“Look, since we're both free can we just get the revision over with?”
Peter, a bit stunned by your bluntness, just nods.
“Okay then.” you clap your hands, “ let's go somewhere quieter.”
Peter trails behind you, as you look for somewhere to hunker down. You occasionally look behind to see if he’s still there. When you look, you see his eyes searching all over the place. You know better than to assume but you can’t help but think he’s making sure there's no one he knows.
You finally find a quiet corner table and decide that’ll do. You plop yourself down in one of the seats and Peter does the same.
You set your backpack on the table and pull out the outline Cal handed back to you. You slide across the table over to Peter.
The more Peter reads, the deeper his frown gets.
With one more look over he tosses it on the table. “What the hell is up with this dude?” you assume he means Cal.
“What? Not a fan of Cal’s critiques?” you reply sarcastically. Peter scoffs and reads the paper again. “No, our outline may not have been perfect but it was damn near it.”
You're kind of grateful that someone is finally understanding what you meant about Cal.
You try to lighten the mood. “What are you talking about, Cal barely left any responses on your part, you should be proud.”
Peter deadpans.
“Nothing to be excited about if he’s gonna be critiquing us like this.” He reads it over and over again, “man you weren't lying when you said he didn’t like you.”
You want to laugh but you're quick to remember what his friends had said about you.
You get defensive, “Yeah well if that’s going to be an issue then you're more than welcome to request someone else.”
You're messing with your nails when you hear Peter sigh. “I fear there's some animosity between us.”
You cross your arms and lean back in your chair. “Oh really now?”
Peter leans forward. “I owe you an apology. No smoothie but an actual apology.”
“I’m listening.”
Peter fidgets with his hands, “look, those guys can be-”
“Assholes?”
“Yeah, that.” he sighs again, clearly troubled. “I met them a while back and we’ve been hanging ever since. They’re not the best but they're my friends, I guess.”
“That” you pause, “wasn't an apology.”
Peter nods frantically “Agreed. Okay , I really am sorry for the way they were. I should've jumped in and said something. Also, I'm sorry I told them about you and Cal.”
You sit up in your chair. “It’s fine I guess. I just don’t get why you’d want to hang out with people like that but to each their own.” you should’ve left it as “its fine'' but you really dont get why Peter is friends with them.
“Hey, they're my friends and that's that, I don’t think I should have to explain anymore than that, I'm apologizing and that's what matters right?”
Okayy, so friends is a touchy subject, noted.
“Okay yeah, fine, whatever.” you don't feel any better than before he apologized. If anything, you feel worse.
Peter clears his throat. “Okay, that's settled then.”
There's a hesitation between the both of you. You both go to speak and both topple your sentences over one another. Peter just points at you to go first.
“So” you say, dragging the O. “Cal wants the revision by Friday. You can mark this copy up and I’ll just add onto the doc.”
Peter scratches his chin, while staring at the paper. “What's there to add? I meant it when I said I thought it was near perfect.”
You sigh, “I don’t know Peter. I usually just follow Cals red mark ups and call it day.”
Peter doesn’t agree. “Well I don't wanna do that. I like what we have.”
You stare at him, eyes wide. “You mean like not to revise at all?” Peter nods. You let out a chuckle “you expect me to turn this back into Cal, exactly how we left it? He’s going to be mad, and i'll be the one having to deal with that.”
Peter looks like he’s thinking. “How about” he pauses “how about I turn it in with you? we’ll tag team him.”
You give him a blank stare. “Peter”
“Yes?”
“Are you serious?”
Peter lets out an exasperated yes. “I’ll head to your class after it ends and we can talk to him together.”
He seems serious.
Fine by you.
“Well, if that's all, I'm going to head out. I’ll email you my class info.”
You start to pack your things up and get ready to leave, when all of a sudden Peter jumps up. “Wait!” he’s got an arm reached out while the other goes to gather his things.
Peter stumbles to put his things away and goes to stand with you “where, uh, where you headed?”
“The library?” you say questionably
Peter nods, “Cool, that's cool, I was actually headed there too.”
You eyed him suspiciously, “were you?”
“Yeah, I was. Wanna go together?”
Peter’s sudden odd behavior is throwing you off. “ I guess.”
“Sweet, let's go.”
Peter takes off without you. You stare at the back of his head in confusion but follow anyway.
You trail closely behind Peter. Every now and then you catch him turning to make sure you're still following. You come up with every scenario on why he’s acting the way that he is.
Did he see his friends in the dining hall?
Is he trying to hide from someone?
Does he really just need to go to the library? Or
Does he actually want to hang out with you?
You're too busy spiraling to realize that you've already made it to the library. You're about to go in when Peter stops and turns around.
“Maybe we shouldn't go to the library.”
“What are you talking about?”
Peter shrugs, getting looks from other people trying to walk through.
“I just feel like it’s not the place to be.”
You want to be annoyed by his behavior, but you're weirded out more than anything. “Okay? Then you go somewhere else?”
You start opening the door but Peter yanks you to the side and pulls you both away from the entrance. “Okay, what the actual hell are you doing?” Peter is silent. “Don't want to be seen or something?”
That gets Peter talking, “What? No it's just" he trails off.
“Just what?”
Peter scrambles for an answer. “Don't you ever feel like studying somewhere else?”
“No, I like the library, that's why I go.”
You pull Peter in close, worried that something is actually wrong.
“I dont know whats going on but you're freaking me out. I am so close to texting Mar an SOS message and trust me when I say she meant what she said earlier.”
Peter frantically waves his arms around. “No, please don’t do that! She actually scares me!”
“Look, can you just trust me when I say the library is not the place to be?”
You look at him like he’s crazy, you think he might be. “Now why would I do that?”
Peter fidgets with his hands, “Because I have really good intuition. Now can you please go study somewhere else?”
“I-” you genuinely have no words.
“Um, what's going on here?”
When you look up you see Nolan, looking equally as confused.
Peter however looks relieved “Nolan! Hey man.”
Nolan, who looks like he’s just spent an unimaginable number of hours in the library, responds. “Hey? Why are you guys huddling in a corner?”
You think this is your way out. “Okayy, So I’m going to leave now.” You try to shuffle past Nolan but Peter stops you.
“Nolan, remember that coffee spot hidden away by the architectural building?”
Nolan still looks just as confused “yeah?”
Peter claps “great! You should take her there. I'm trying to convince her that the library isn't the place to be, right now, at this moment.” there’s a pause. “You know, intuition” Peter stares Nolan down and after a minute his eyes widen “OH, Oh, yeah.” Nolan turns to you. “I bet you would really like this place, it seems to be up your alley.”
Peter is pushing you away from the entrance, “Yes I totally agree.”
Nolan is already walking down the lawn before you can even get an opinion in.
You turn around with an annoyed look “Peter you better explain what is going on right now.”
Peter shrinks in your stare. “Um, Nolan” He pauses, “Nolan has a crush.” he pauses again, “on you and he needed a little push to help him out.”
You still are just as annoyed. All of this was a ploy to get you on a date with his friend?
Considering your past couple of interactions with Peter, you wouldn't put it past him.
“Peter, I am not going on a blind date with your friend.”
Peter exhales, “Oh come on now, Just give the poor guy a chance, I mean look at him.”
You do just that and when you spot him, you see him standing in place kicking rocks around, waiting for you.
You close your eyes and sigh, curse your sympathetic heart. “Fine but this was so poorly executed Peter.”
Peter gives a sympathetic smile, “Ouch, I tried okay.”
All you offer is an eye roll.
With one more push, Peter sends you off to catch up with Nolan. When you do, he immediately starts a conversation. You turn around to glance at Peter but all you see is him bolting past the library.
You try not to think too much of it. Completely thrown off by Peters antics, you hope Nolan doesn’t exude the same behavior and pray the rest of your day will go on normally.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------Peter and Nolan are being sketchy weirdos!

Work To Do
Steve Harrington X reader
Pt. 1
Summary: You and Steve have been seeing each other since the fight. That was a while ago and nobody knows yet. Steve calls it private, you call it secret.
Ignore all typos or I'll cry <3
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's dark and all you can feel is Steve’s hands on you.
You both have found yourselves in a predicament.
Steve’s break ended about twenty minutes ago and you're sure if you don’t head back to your job, the old ladies at the library are gonna send a search party after you.
You know that you should leave but everytime you make a move to leave Steve just pulls you back in and who are you to deny him.
You could continue on with your gorgeous boyfr-, partner, friend? but you can feel something poking into your back and it's starting to hurt.
“Okay, Steve,” you say gasping but Steve doesn’t want to hear what you have to say and before you know it his lips are back on yours. Steve pushes you further into the shelf behind you and you can no longer take the pain of whatever is stabbing into your back.
This time you really give Steve a good shove, causing him to run into the shelf behind him.
You both let out similar exasperations of pain.
There's a silence that follows after. You two don't say anything but you’re sure you’re both thinking the same thing so you just bite the bullet.
“Hey Steve?”
He gives a sigh, “yeah?”
You respond, “we gotta tell Robin.”
There's a pause again. You think you’ve had this conversation about a thousand times and everytime it ends with Steve persuading you to drop the subject.
The persuasion had been working, but the more this goes on the more it feels wrong. You like to tell yourself and Steve that it’s for Robin's sake but there's a small voice in your head reminding you who the reassurance is really for.
Steve sighs again but grabs you by your waist, pulling you away from the shelf behind you.
“I know, trust me, it's just…” he doesn’t continue. He does this everytime. Before, the answer would come out so smoothly, like he meant it but now he has to think up excuses.
You turn your face away from him, Steve’s lifts his hand to your face, gently turning it back to face him.
“Hey” he starts softly, “what's with the pout?” you roll your eyes.
Steve runs a finger over your lips before continuing. “We're gonna tell Robin, hell, we're gonna tell everyone.” you give a mean laugh. Now Steve is pouting, “Hey now, we are, just give me time.” you go to pull away from Steve but he tightens his grip with the hand he still has on your waist.
He brings his forehead to rest on yours. “I mean it okay, don’t for a second think I’m procrastinating on purpose.” with that he gives your waist a squeeze before letting you go.
You both straighten yourselves out before finally opening the door. This isn't the first time you’ve been in the family video storage closet but you hope it’s the last. You wait for Steve to lock the door back up and wait for him to turn back around. When he faces you, you give him a small smile. Steve looks both ways before reaching out and pulling you in for a kiss.
You try not to think too much about it as you both start walking to the employee exit. “Alright, let's get you out of here before Keith blows our cover.” you know he’s trying to be funny but it doesn’t make that pit in your stomach go away.
You let out an uncomfortable chuckle, “yeah okay Steve.” Before you make it out the door Steve grabs you hand, “Hey, I’ll see you later alright?” you want to say no but you look into his stupid brown puppy eyes and let out a small ‘sure’ before you can even think.
Steve pumps his fist, “Yes!”, you giggle at this. With a final kiss on a cheek, Steve lets you head to your car. You let out a long sigh once you sit in your car, you let your head fall onto the steering wheel and stay there for a bit.
You come to a realization and lift your head up quickly, no time for moping, you’ve got to get back to your old ladies.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can’t help but feel like the great man upstairs is upset with you. He’s got to be. What else could explain little Henderson bombarding you with a million questions about you and Steve.
You're putting books away in the library, when all the sudden you're interrupted by an out of breath Henderson. This is not completely out of the ordinary. You and the kids get along great but you can’t hide your shock when Dustin finally asks you a coherent question.
“Are you and Steve fornicating?”
You whip your head around so quickly, you think you might have given yourself whiplash.
“Dustin Henderson!” you whisper shout. He shoots you a look “It’s true isn’t it?” you throw your hand over his mouth. “You are being loud and disruptive.”
Dustin shakes your hand off. “Oh it is so true, I can see it on your face.” you speed past him down the aisle. “You’re actually insane Henderson. Just because you miss Suzy Poo doesn’t mean you can start making up wild accusations to entertain yourself.”
Dustin walks faster to match your pace, “you are deflecting so hard right now.”
“I am not.” you continue walking and go to turn the corner but realize that you’ve walked into the corner of the room.
You turn around and Dustin is standing in your way. You sigh and sink to the floor. Dustins figured you out, no point in running.
Dustin gives you a smug smile before crouching down to sit in front of you. “Oh my gosh it is true, It was a guesstimation but I think your face just confirmed it.”
You pull your knees up and rest your forehead on them. Your heart is beating so fast, you think you might throw up.
Dustin clears his throat, you look up. “So, are you gonna leave me hanging?”
You let out a whine, “give me a second, I’m having a meltdown here.”
He gives you just that, a second, before he’s clearing his throat louder.
“Okay okay, stop being so loud or I'm actually gonna have to kick you out.”
Dustin rolls his eyes. “Yeah whatever, spill the beans.”
You don’t even know where to begin, wait, yes you do.
“How on earth did you figure this out?”
Dustin shrugs “keith.” He says, like it’s common sense.
Your eyes widen, “okay you explain that first please.” Dustin gets comfy in his spot, “I went looking for Steve the other day and when I couldn’t find him I asked Keith.” he pauses.”Keith said that he was probably out back making out with some chick.” you raise your brows, thoroughly surprised that Keith didn’t sell you guys out.
Dustin continues, “I, who knows no boundaries, ran out back to see who it could be. Alas I see you and Steve bidding farewell to one another. Your turn.”
You run your hands over your face, you guess you owe it to him. “I don’t know Dustin, it just kinda happened.” He’s quick to interrupt, “when?” you start picking at the carpet on the floor. “The day we fought at his house.” Dustin smacks your knee, “What?!” He scoffs, “that was forever ago.”
You shake your head, disagreeing. “It wasn’t that long ago.” Dustin deadpans, “a long time to not tell anyone.” you nod your head, he’s got you there. “Trust me, I’m with you on that.”
You change the subject before this leads to you crying to Dustin about Steve’s commitment issues.
“So, is it as weird as it sounds? Me and Steve?”
Dustin shakes his head. “Surprisingly not, I mean at first yeah but I can see it.” you chuckle at his honesty. “I mean it is kinda weird that it happened because you guys fought but hey who am I to judge what gets you guys going.”
You give him a disgusted look, “let's maybe not go down that path of conversation.” He nods, “yeah okay.”
Dustin finally asks the million dollar question. “So why haven’t you told anyone?” you shrug, you’ve got no answer, “Better yet, why haven’t you told Robin?”
You both sit in silence before you muster up the courage to respond. “At first, I liked it being in between just me and Steve. It felt nice not having to hear anyone's opinions or thoughts on us.” Dustin nods, still listening. “But now, I couldn’t care less. It's actually eating away at me and I feel like blurting it out every chance I get but Steve-.”
Dustin sighs, “but Steve.”
You nod, “yeah, Steve.”
Dustin shakes his head, “Can I tell you something?” you nod again, fully prepared to hear him defend his buddy.
“I’ve known Steve a lot longer than I’ve known you but I came to you knowing that you’d tell the truth.”
Ouch
“Can I ask you something Dustin?”
Dustin nods, “of course.”
“Is it gonna continue on like this? Am I gonna be left waiting?”
Dustin lets out a puff of air. “I can’t answer that.”
You sigh, you know he can’t but the look on his face gives the answer he’s holding back.
Dustin gives you a gentle pat on the knee, “I’m not gonna speak for him, I love that guy but I know he’s a piece of work.” you nod in agreement. “I may not know much but I think you guys have to talk about this.”
You let out a long sigh before getting up from your spot. You reach your hand out to help him up.
Once he’s up, you wrap your arm around his neck and give his hair a ruffle. “Look at you mister. Couples therapist. Suzy Poo has done a number on you.”
Dustin swats at your hand, “okay okay, cut it out. I was going to offer to help you with book returns but I’m thinking about taking that offer back.”
You straighten up, “what noo, no take backsies, you're stuck with me now Henderson.”
Dustin rolls his eyes but follows you up to counter anyways, you give him a sweet smile.
What a big softie.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You’re in your bedroom, when you hear a familiar voice by the window. You open the blinds and see Steve waiting expectantly. You stick your head out, “what are you doing here?”
Steve looks confused, “thought we were gonna watch a movie?” He lifts the bag of snacks up in his hand to emphasize the point.
In all honesty you had completely forgotten about your movie night. Steve has been coming over Thursday nights because he knows that it's date night for your parents.
AKA, no parents.
“Righttt, yeah sorry I lost track of time. Come to the side door.”
You run down the stairs and go to unlock the door.
The second you swing it open, Steve’s wrapping you up in a hug. “Hey gorgeous.”
You actually swoon.
You hug him back.”Hey handsome.”
When he lets you go, he goes straight to the living room. You feel a fuzzy feeling seeing him like this. Navigating around your house, like it's second nature to him. You follow behind him and watch him set his bag of snacks down on the table. He plops himself down on the couch and when you get close enough he pulls you down into his lap.
Steve immediately starts kissing you all over. Your eyes, nose, cheeks, forehead, and finally he brings his lips to yours. You will forever be shocked about how he takes your breath away everytime. You’d like to say you're an expert when it comes to kissing Steve harrington now. But it doesn’t matter how many times it happens, it always sends your head spinning.
Steve’s insatiable. He kisses and kisses until you both can’t breathe. Being the gentleman that he is, he lets you catch your breath, but he doesn’t offer himself the same. Steve moves down your chin, then your neck. You let out a content sight when he sucks on a sensitive spot. Steve lays you back on the couch, still leaving wet kisses along your neck.
Steve lets himself lay between your thighs. He uses one hand to grab your thigh and bring it up to his waste. You take it from there and wrap it behind, pulling him in closer. You feel him groan into your neck when you feel his bulge grind against you.
This time Steve takes the lead and grinds into you, at a pace that isn’t safe for either of you.
You can’t help but let out a moan. This has Steve’s lips back on yours. You take your hands and wrap them around his neck. One of them is going to run through his hair. You give a small tug, which has Steve grinding even harder into you.
“God, I love it when you do that.” Steve grunts against your lips.
You can’t help but smirk, “what, yank on your hair? You freak.”
Steve ignores you and continues kissing you, he must be embarrassed because next thing you know his tongue is pushing into your mouth. Steve’s hand runs up the side of your body, looking for a lift in your shirt. When he finds it, his hand goes under and runs up your bare side. You know what he’s looking for and he’s not going to find it.
Why on earth would you wear a bra in the comfort of your own home?
Steve is internally grateful for your “hippie ways”.
Steve goes to lift your shirt and you freeze. Steve doesn’t seem to notice at first but when you put your hands on his he looks at you and pulls back.
Steve sits up, “whats up?”
What's up? What's up is that you can hear little Henderson buzzing in your ear. You’re not going to tell Steve that so you lie.
“I um, I just, I’m feeling a bit under the weather.”
Steve goes to get off of you, pull you up with him. “Oh, why didn’t you say anything?”
You can’t tell if he’s upset, he doesn’t sound upset.
“I guess I just got caught up, sorry.”
Steve shakes his head while he leans back into his seated position, pulling you into his side. “Hey why are you sorry? Don’t be sorry.”
You nuzzle into his side. “Sorry that I might have potentially gotten you sick?”
Steve wraps his arm around you and pulls you in further. “Hey, it was bound to happen. You can’t keep me away from you.”
You chuckle at this.
You both sit in a comfortable silence. Steve is rubbing your shoulder and giving you occasional kisses on your head.
You sit there and you stew. You feel jittery and unsettled. You're overwhelmed. Being here, like this, with Steve. It feels like a relationship, like boyfriend and girlfriend. You feel the sting in your eyes and start to tear up. You sniffle and Steve immediately clocks it.
He tries to get a good look at your face and you pull away. “Hey, what's going on? Talk to me.”
You stand up still not facing him. You feel him standing up behind you. He turns you around and asks you again. You feel like you're suffocating so you just say the first thing that comes to mind.
“Dustin knows about us.” for a second Steve seems fine, calm and collective even. You think that maybe you were being dramatic about all of this but then Steve spits out a “what?”
“Did you tell him?” he’s got a different tone than his normal one.
You shake your head. “No, he found out.”
Steve puts his hands on his hips and scoffs.”What? How?” you tell how he saw you both saying bye to one another. Steve goes to sit on the couch but stands right back up, like he doesn’t know what to do with himself.
“That little shit, always going and getting into people's business.”
You’re quick to defend Dustin. “Hey don’t be like that. He was really sweet about it actually, he came by the library and we talked about-”
Steve cuts you off, “you guys talked about it? Talked about what?”
You don't like Steve’s tone, “About you and me, he just wanted an explanation.”
For some reason this sets Steve off.
“You don’t owe him an explanation.”
You’re starting to get annoyed, “No I don’t, but I wanted to tell him.”
Steve starts pacing,”I wish you would have told me immediately, I would've done, I don’t know, damage control.”
You scoff. “Damage control? Are you serious Steve?” The look on his face tells you that he is.
“Do you know how good it felt to finally tell someone about us? It made it feel like, whatever this is, is real and not just some dirty secret.”
Steve doesn’t seem to like that response, “No, don’t do that, don’t reduce our relationship to that.”
You laugh. “Oh what relationship Steve? Do you really think you deserve to call it that? You refuse to tell anyone about us, you won’t label us and half the time we were together, you’ve got your tongue down my throat.”
Steve runs his hands through his hair. “That is not true. We do plenty of things that aren’t just that. We have a movie night tradition for god sakes.”
“Oh yeah, and how was that going tonight, hm?” low blow, not every movie night ends like that. You’re just feeling cynical enough to use it for your cause.
All Steve can do is shake his head. “It’s so much more than that and it hurts to think that is how you see this.”
You feel like you’re going crazy, like he’s avoiding the point on purpose. “Tough shit Steve, that hurt you feel right now, is how I feel everytime we're together.”
Steves got the saddest look on his face but you can’t stop now that you’ve started. “Everytime you flip out about telling Robin, or my parents, or even the little old ladies at the library. Every time you refuse to do something remotely close to the town, in fear that someone will see us. Or how we watch movies and cuddle and talk about our days and do domestic shit. All of that and I'm not even your girlfriend.”
You continue before he can even try to intervene. “You think whatever you want about labels and relationships but I want to be a girlfriend, I want to tell the people I love about this awesome guy who I get to call my boyfriend.” you let out a shaky breath, “and if you can’t give that to me then I think we're wasting our time here Steve.”
There, you’ve done it.
“I’ve said what I needed to say Steve, this lies in your hands now.”
You sniffle, you haven’t realized it until just now but you're crying. Tears are streaming down your face. You don’t want him to see any more of your crying so you leave him in the living room and head to the kitchen.
You're in there for a minute or so. There is an unsettling quietness. Suddenly you hear quick footsteps and before you know it Steve is grabbing at your hands, looking at you with such intensity.
“I'm sorry, I am so sorry.” you’re a bit shocked at his immediate apology. You’re more shocked when you see him start to tear up.
You’ve got no words, you have never seen Steve cry before. “I can’t believe I've been making you feel like this.” he grips your hands tighter. “You don’t deserve it, you deserve better but I’d be an idiot to let you go.”
His voice starts to waver. “And you can call me selfish but I think I’d lose it if I ever saw you with someone else. I want to be with you. Please believe me when I say that, please.”
You nod your head, not trusting your voice.
“My last relationship was shit, I ruined it and I am so scared that I'm gonna ruin this.” he lets out a shaky breath. “You make me sickeningly happy and don’t think for a second that I don’t want you to be my girlfriend.”
Steve lets go of your hands to gently hold your face. Wiping away your tears. “I want that and everything more. And it’s going to happen. It’s going to be the best date you’ve ever been on and we're going to end the night being boyfriend and girlfriend.”
You feel like the storm has passed now but you have to keep him on his toes. “If I say yes.”
Steve goes a bit pale at that but he can take it. “If you say yes.”
You can’t help but smile and that has Steve pulling you in tight. He’s got you wrapped in a bear hug. “God I almost ruined that, didn’t I ?” he mumbles into your hair.
You’ve got your arms wrapped just as tight around him. “Yeah, we’ve got some work to do, Harrington.”
He pulls out from the hug but slides his arm to wrap around your shoulder. You both walk back to the living room. “And work I shall do baby.” Steve leans down to leave a peck on the top of your head.
After Steve pops the movie in, you both get cozy on the couch to officially start your movie night. You don’t really watch the movie though. You and Steve ramble all sorts of nonsense back and forth to one another.
There's no rush for him to get out before your parents get home, or constant questions about where Robin is. There's no jumpy, skittish behavior. Just Steve, willing to prove that he meant what he said.

Ugh, I love them. I think I have one more thought-out part for them but after that, I might be open to some requests!

Meet Me in the Corner pt.2
Ignore all typos or I will cry.
Peter Parker x Reader
Summary: Peter is starting to grow on you but the Parker persona is not.
Pt.1, Pt.2, Pt.3, Pt.4
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“So he totally blue-balled you.” your roommate says from her desk where she's painting her nails.
“Mar that totally isn’t how you use that phrase.”
Mar has made you tell her what happened with Peter about 10 times now. Every time you re-tell it, she's come to the conclusion that Peter Parker is an asshole.
“Okay well you get what I mean. Maybe you should request a new partner.”
Maybe not, Peter may have been an ass but you’d be lying if you said his work wasn’t good.
“Look Mar, maybe I just caught him on a bad day, I don’t know.”
Marlene whips her head around, nail polish still in hand. “Oh don’t you start with that benefit of the doubt bullshit.”
You sigh, “Requesting a new partner is out of the question okay, I don’t want to seem like a difficult priss, especially since professor Cal already doesn’t like me.”
Mar gives you an obviously fake smile, “that is not true.”
You give her a look and she grimaces, she’s started something.
“Professor Cal despises me and I don’t know why but he does.”
You feel your anger bubble up. You know you’re about to go on a rant and Mar, being a saint, listens.
“He is constantly nitpicking everything I do and never fails to ridicule my projects in front of everyone. Nothing I do impresses him and I just-” you pause, “I think Peter might help.”
Mar shrugs her shoulders, “I’m still iffy since the blue-balling and all but whatever you think love.”
You giggle as Mar turns back towards her desk, “Hey Mar?”
“Yeah” she answers.
“Next time we're at the bookstore, remind me to buy you an urban dictionary.”
Mar just gives you a thumbs up.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You’re five minutes into your walk and realized a little too late that you need a scarf. You could turn back around and go get one but then you’d have to hear Mar say she told you so and that just won't do.
You decide to tough it out.
After a brisk walk, you make it to the library. Once you’re inside you decide that you’re going to treat yourself to a nice warm tea. You enter the library cafe and order your tea. Once it’s in hand you go to look for a spot to hunker down in.
You make your way through the floors and find yourself heading to the spot you found in the corner. When you turn the bookshelf you are surprised to see the spot empty.
You immediately sit down and start taking your things out.
You’re taking your laptop out of the case when you hear someone's shoes scuff to a quick stop. You look to see a surprised Peter Parker. Not very pleased with how he left you hanging yesterday, you just eye him up and down until your eyes reach his again. Peter is just standing there and you can’t help but ask, “ Can I help you?”
Peter walks a bit closer towards the table before he answers. “No, I was just checking to see if the spot was empty but it’s not so.” He says dragging the O.
Peter stands there expectantly, like he’s waiting for you to ask him to sit. You don’t, so he cracks first. “Do you mind if I sit with you, all the other floors are too loud and I really need some peace and quiet.”
Surprised that he actually asked you, in a nice manner at that, you just nod yes.
He moves to sit in the chair across from you. The tables are big enough to where both of you can spread out your work comfortably but you still can’t help but feel on edge. You didn’t come to the library expecting to see Peter, let alone have him sitting with you.
You try your best to chill out, reminding yourself that you were here first and if anyone should feel mildly unwelcomed, it should be him. With that you decide to start typing up an article for a paper.
You’re both quietly working when Peter speaks up. “What’cha working on?”
Trying not to lose your spot, you continue typing away and give a simple response. “An article”
“For?”
You sigh, whatever groove you had originally found, is all gone now.
“A paper.”
“Which one?”
“An art paper.”
“Oh cool, what do you write?”
You look up from your computer to look at him. “What happened to peace and quiet?”
Peter seems a bit taken aback. You feel bad so you quickly follow up, “I write about up and coming artists. Whether that be new exhibits they have or just sit down interviews about their lives.”
Peter stays quiet so you continue, “I also do in-depth reviews over specific expo’s and the fundraiser’s some of them work for.”
Peter crosses his arms and nods, “Cool cool.”
You give him a quiet ‘yup’ and go back to typing. You get about a sentence in before Peter interrupts you again.
“Is that how you knew about the donors gala?”
You nod, “Sort of, but I really learned more about it through Austin.”
“Art museum friend?”
You give him another nod, “art museum friend.”
Peter just nods some more and leans back into his chair.
“Since we're on the topic, what exactly is the gala for anyways?”
Abandoning all hope for your article, you push your laptop away to fully engage with Peter.
“A bunch of the school's donors get together for a night and do a dinner and an auction. A lot of the art auctioned off is work that students have put together. Those students get invited and get to mingle with some pretty important people. Some even come out with internships or commissions.”
Peter can’t hide his surprise, “that's actually….really cool.”
You can’t help but agree, “yeah, even cooler that we get to go.”
Peter sits up, “speaking of, how about we knock out that outline?”
You would be lying if you said you weren’t thrown off. Last time you saw Peter he was a bit of an asshole. Now, he’s tolerable and dare you say, easy to talk to. Whatever it is, you aren’t complaining.
“Yeah, let me pull up the sheet.”
You and Peter brainstorm for a while. Deciding on different angles and how to approach the assignment. After a while you guys decide on a solid plan and you begin to type it up on the outline.
“So, you’re pretty lucky to have Cal as a professor, considering you write articles and all.”
You wince but continue to type, Peter notices. “What’s the face for?”
You let out a puff of air “I have this running theory that Cal is not very fond of me.”
Peter looks intrigued. “Whaaat, Cal doesn’t like you? That can’t be true. What makes you say that?”
You shrug your shoulders, “he’s pretty, um, critical of my work. He also loves to pick on me and my ideas.” you double down, “like I said, theory.”
Peter gives you a smile. “Uh oh, should I be worried about our project?” you know he’s joking, or you hope he’s joking, but you can’t help but genuinely worry.
Before you can really get into your head, Peter taps the table to get your attention. “Hey, I'm sure it’s gonna be fine. Plus I'm on the team now and I don’t mean to brag but my work is brilliant.”
Successfully making you feel better, you roll your eyes jokingly. “Yeah yeah I get it, Peter the almighty photographer.”
Peter smirks, “so you’ve heard of my work?”
You scoff, “oh come off it Peter.”
All he does is laugh and starts to gather his things.
You can’t help but feel a bit sad?
“Well I’ve got to head out but let me know if you need any help on the outline.”
You nod, “Yeah, I think I should be good. I’ll finish it up and send it to you to look over.”
Peter stands up and swings his bag over his shoulder, “if you want to, but I have full faith in you. You’re the writer after all.”
You can’t help but smile at the compliment. “Look at us, the dream team.”
Peter laughs and starts to walk away. “Oh yeah, Cal’s got nothing on us.”
You let out a laugh at his comment. Peter turns to give a wave goodbye and turns the corner out of your eyesight.
After a bit, you finish the outline, look it over a couple of times and once you’ve decided it’s perfect, you go ahead and submit it.
You send the file to Peter so he can go ahead and submit it for his class. Feeling pleased with the work you’ve done today, you decide to head out.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s Wednesday and you’ve just finished up with Cal’s class. You linger a little bit behind, finishing up the notes left on the board. Once you are done you begin to gather up your things and head for the door. Before you can make it out Cal calls out your name to stay behind for a sec.
You halt in your steps and turn around to walk back to his podium. A fellow classmate gives you a sympathetic smile as she walks by you. You can’t help but dread what's to come.
Call talks to every other student before he gets to you. You can’t help but feel like he’s left you for last on purpose. You get up to his podium. He’s flipping through his stack of papers, when he pulls out a sheet of paper. You read the top and see that it’s your outline paper.
Cal speaks first. “So, you and mister Parker are doing the donors gala?”
You nod, “yes sir.”
He just hums and looks down at the outline. He rubs his chin while he reads over the paper.
“How will that work out?”
Here he goes. “Well Peter will take photos and I’ll write up the article.”
Cal sighs, “yes I understand that but how are you guys attending? Will you be a guest? Workers? Volunteers?”
You pull your hands behind your back and try your best not to seem nervous. “We’ll be guests, sir. I know someone working the event and-”
Cal cuts you off, “So you’ll be loitering?”
You dig your nails into your palms, trying to remain calm. “No sir, I know someone working who has offered guest passes and I’ve received invitations from an exhibit I write for.”
“Ah” is all Cal says.
There's a bit of silence when Cal finally looks up from your paper. “ This is a very important event for the school and students involved.” Cal pauses, “you understand that you’ll be mingling with very important people?”
You nod, “of course professor.”
Cal grabs the paper and goes to hand it to you. Before you can grab it he pulls it back. “It’s an honor to be able to attend this gala. You will represent not only me but our school as well. I believe you’re one of the only students to have offered this idea up for the project. I’ll approve it but please note that I am expecting a lot considering how important of an event this is.”
You give another nod, beyond ready for this to be over. “Of course.”
Cal gives a curt nod, “very well then.” he hands over your paper, “I'm looking forwards to seeing you both there.”
You say goodbye and head out the door, paper gripped in your hand.
When you make it far enough you look down at your outline. You sigh as you see all the markings on it. There's minimal notes on Peter’s ideas for the photos but your angle portions are all scribbled on.
At the very top it reads ‘revise and turn in again by Friday.’
You think if you look at paper any longer you’ll cry. You shove it in your backpack and begin your walk to your next class.
With your morning ruined, you can only hope that the rest of the day will be better.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Evil Cal has placed a curse on your day. You should’ve known his class would be an indication for how the rest of your day would go.
You’d completely forgotten to finish your pre-lab for your lab, which led you to have to stay behind an extra thirty minutes to finish it. Those extra thirty minutes made you extremely late for your next class. You had run across campus in hopes of catching some part of the lesson. When you finally make it, dripping in sweat and out of breath, you walk up to the door and read the sign that your class has been canceled for the day. Just to top it all off, it started raining and you’ve got no umbrella with you so you had to go to the student store and spend an absurd amount of money on the smallest umbrella you’ve ever seen.
You’re now walking towards your dorm, in no real rush. You’ve accepted that you’re going to be soaked by the rain, thanks to your ridiculously small umbrella. Your shoes make a squish sound with every step you take and you’ve got your backpack on your front side, hoping to protect what's inside.
All is well until a gust of wind has the umbrella flying out of hand, poking you in the head on the way out. Your eyes drift to where it landed. You are extremely surprised when you catch sight of Peter holding the umbrella. You wave at him and get a small smile back. You think nothing of it as you walk over to him. When you get close you realize that he isn’t alone.
Peter is standing with a group of people under an awning of one of the classroom buildings. One guy looks familiar and you realize it’s the guy that interrupted you and Peter the first day you guys met.
He gives you a wave and hello.
“Hey, we met the other day right?”
You nod, “yeah”
He extends his hand, “I didn’t properly introduce myself, I’m Nolan.”
You shake his hand and introduce yourself as well.
Peter is still holding your umbrella but hasn’t said a word to you yet.
You’re about to ask Peter for your umbrella when one of the girls from the group speak’s up.
“How do we know you exactly?” Okay wow, she’s a bit blunt.
Nolan replies for you, “this is Parker's partner for that class he was talking about.”
She nods “Oh yeahh, I remember. The project he’s worried about.”
Peter gives her a look and cuts in, “Charlotte.” She just shrugs her shoulders. “What, were you not saying that you were worried.”
Everyone but Nolan and Peter snicker. It’s like they know something that you don’t and you feel a pit form in your stomach.
You can’t hold your tongue and look Peter right in the eyes. “What are you so worried about Peter?”
He stutters, “well after what you told me I-” Charlotte clearly is having too much fun and decides to answer for him. “Parker here is worried about you guys failing the project, considering your track record and all.”
Your stunned silent. You can’t remember the last time someone has been so blatantly rude to you. It reminds you too much of highschool and it’s upsetting you. What upsets you the most is the lack of Peters defense.
Your new found friend Nolan even says something, “Oh Charlotte don’t be like that.”
Charlotte just can’t seem to let it go, “I'm sorry, did he not say she hasn’t been able to ace a project.” she looks at you with mock sympathy. “Don’t worry, I’m sure this project will exceed expectations.”
You feel your eyes begin to sting. You berate yourself in your head for tearing up. You blame the draining day you’ve had for the lack of self restraint.
You clear your throat. “Well Charlotte.” you turn to Peter who’s still not said a word. “Thanks for enlightening me on Parker's worries.” you snatch your umbrella out of his hand and walk away, offering no goodbyes. You faintly hear Nolan scold Charlotte but the giggle that follows tells that she doesn’t take it seriously.
You speed walk as fast as you can, when you hear Peter call out your name. You don’t stop. You walk faster hoping that he’ll get the memo. You halt to stop when Peter steps in front of you.
“Hey don’t listen to Charlotte. She’s kind of a-” you cut him off, “a bitch?”
Peter winces, “I mean for lack of better words, yeah.”
Peter can tell you’re still upset and tries to lighten the mood. “Hey so I got this lens for the assignment, it's supposed to be really nice for night shots.”
You are in awe. Is he really trying to completely disregard what just happened?
You deadpan, “real neat Parker, I gotta go.” you try to walk past him, but he manages to step right in the direction you're heading. “Hey, look, I’m really sorry but-”
You scoff, “but what?” you’re pissed off now. “I tell you something in confidence and you go and blab about it to all your friends.” you’re not done yet. “Speaking of your friends, that Charlotte one has a real shit-attitude. I am no one to judge who you can be friends with, especially since we aren't.” Peter frowns at that. “But it’s really telling about your character if that’s who you choose to hang with.”
The rain begins to pick up again and you grip your umbrella harder, Peter still stands in front of you, now getting rained on. You believe you’ve had enough and step aside to go around Peter. Somehow he’s managed to line himself in front of you once again.
“Hey come on, it doesn’t have to be like that.” your eyes widen, genuinely shocked by his audacity. “You’ve got to be joking right? Peter you just let Regina George 2.0 make fun of me based off of whatever information you blabbed about.”
Peter opens and closes his mouth, like he’s at a loss of what to say. You shake your head. “Whatever, you don’t owe me anything.” This time you’re set on getting away. Peter sticks his hand out. “Wait can I just-” you put your hand on his shoulder and shove him to the side. Peter is thrown off by this and it gives you a chance to get ahead of him. You think he’s gotten the message because he doesn’t call after you again.
You make it to the crosswalk and wait for the light. You can’t help but look back at the group. Peters made it back and is laughing away with the rest of them. You can only assume he’s blowing off what just happened.
You pull out your phone and immediately text Mar.
Peter Parker IS an asshole.
Cal can kiss my ass.
ALSO, we need a bigger a umbrella.
You see the dots and receive her response.
Oh honey, I'm ready and waiting.
Doors unlocked
Xoxo
You see the light turn green and give one final once over at the group. Seeing the group reignites your anger and you stomp your way across the street.
Mar is about to have the biggest I told you so moment ever.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Peter is so #fake and i kinda love it.
Also, sorry to all the Charlottes out there, you're my villain of choice :)

THIS IS SO SWEET IM CRYING!!
I think I’ll die
Steve Harrington x reader (enemies to lovers) (kinda?)
Summary: you and Steve mutually agree to disagree, on everything. That’s until a hot summer day brings you two closer than ever.
Ignore all typos or I’ll cry <3——————————————————————————-
You have a pep in your step as you walk towards the family video store. Tape in hand, you swing the door open. You guessed the plot twist before even watching the movie and now Robin owes you ten bucks.
You walk in, you sigh at the sight in front of you. Leaning on a shelf talking to another customer is Steve. You quickly bolt into an aisle in hopes that he didn’t see you.
Your relationship with Steve is a bit more on the rocky side. One day he was King Steve, every outcast's worst enemy and then all the sudden he’s hanging around your best friend and a bunch of kids. Robin swears up and down that he’s a changed man but when you ask why, she offers no answers. So as of right now, your opinions on him remain the same.
In all honesty, it’s not like he’s made much of an effort to get along with you, so things proceed as they have been. You and Steve, Sharing Robin, like split custody.
You’re now kneeling down in the aisle you’re in, looking at the movies on the bottom shelf.
Out of nowhere a shadow appears above your head. You pay it no mind, hoping it’ll just pass over. The shadow clears its throat. You look up and there Steve is, in all his glory.
You roll your eyes and look back down at the shelf in front of you, trying your best to ignore him. The next thing you know, he’s leaning right over you, deciding now is the perfect time to put tapes back on the shelf above your head.
You know what he’s doing. Steve is doing what he always does when he sees you, trying to get a reaction out of you. Well Steven, today is not that day. You pay him no mind and continue sifting through the tapes in front of you. Steve takes your silence as a dare to push your buttons. He leans over you again, except this time you feel his knees pressing into your back. Your hands stop moving against the tapes.
You don't dare look up at him, you can envision his little smirk perfectly. Steve really starts to put his weight on your back, you stumble a bit forward, he lets out a small snort.
Without a second thought you scooch to the side as quickly as you can. Since Steve no longer has anything in front of him to hold his weight, he goes tumbling forward. He catches himself, of course, but not without dropping all the tapes in his hand and sending the ones on the shelf in front of him flying to the side. This time you let out a laugh.
“Oh come on, my stack.” Steve looks down at you with a glare.
You finally stand up from your spot on the ground and walk out the aisle, Steve follows right on your heels.
You feel him right behind you, “shouldn’t you be picking those up Harrington?” He scoffs, “I should make you clean them up since it's your fault they went all over the place.”
You turn around and Steve stumbles to a stop. “I am a loyal, paying customer, how dare you talk to me like that.”
“Oh bullshit, you don’t even pay for your movies half the time thanks to Robin.” That’s true, you don’t.
“Speaking of Robin, Where is she? I gotta talk to her” You lean over the front desk, peeking to see if Robin is hiding under the counter again.
Steve walks around and snatches the tape you’ve been holding. “She went out back for a Keith break.” You wince, completely understandable Rob.
Steve starts returning your tape for you. He sticks out his hand like he’s expecting something. “Can I help you Steven?”Steve sighs, “How many times do I have to tell you to stop calling me Steven, and yes, you owe me a late fee. You were supposed to return this yesterday.” Robin didn’t work yesterday, hence the reason you didn’t return it yesterday.
You snatch the tape from his hand, “ I’ll pay it when Robin gets back, can you leave me alone now?”
Steve scoffs at your bluntness.
You look back at the aisle you guys came from “ I think you should clean up your mess, it’s a hazard to other customers.”
Steve walks out from behind the counter, mumbling a quick ‘you’re a hazard to other customers’ and heads towards the aisle to pick up the tapes.
When you turn back around, you see Robin walking up towards the front. You give her a smile, waiting for her the reach the counter.
“Good afternoon my lady, you seem chipper.” Your smile widens, “Chipper I am Robin, I’m about to become 10 dollars richer.” Robin gives you a confused look which quickly morphes into shock. “No way, noo way!” You nod your head “Yes way Robin, pay up.” You stick your hand out expectantly.
Robin takes the tape from your other hand, “How? How do you always get it?” You shrug “It’s my god given talent.” Robin returns your tape and goes to say something when she’s cut off.
“Charge her Robin! Charge her the late fee!” you turn around and see Steve come out the aisle with his stack of tapes.
“Oh my gosh Harrington, go away.” He doesn’t. He marches right up next to you.
“This,” he points back and forth between you and Robin, “this has to stop, no more freebies for you any more.”
You look at Robin and back at Steve. “Okay, who you the right to decide that?” Robin backs you up, “yeah Steve who gives you the right?”
“I’ll have you know, I care about following the rules that pertain to my job.” Robin points her finger at him, “Oh you dirty liar, you give freebies to cute chicks all the time, hows that for following company policies.”
Oh, Does he? Interesting.
Steve looks at you, you can’t really tell what he’s thinking but it’s weirding you out. You look back to Robin.
“Look Harrington, We’ll let you and your freebies for hot chicks slide, if you let Robin and I’s little deal go.”
He gives a curt nod.
“Robin, I haven’t forgotten, My ten dollars please.”
Robin looks up at you, oh no, you know that look. “Funny story, I actually don’t have the a ten to give you.” Robin gives you a sheepish smile but you don’t take it. “Robinnn, you do this every time.” She shrugs “what, I’m poor.”
Steve just stands and looks at the two of you. “Oh so now you guys are openly gambling in front of me?”
You stick your hand out. “Steven this has nothing to do with you.” He pulls your hand down out of his face. You keep your attention on Robin. “Yeah well I’m poor too Rob. That was gonna pay for my day at the pool.”
You can practically see the gears turning. “What if I told you I know a person with a pool, for free.”
“Robin, who do you know that I don’t, that has a pool?” You say crossing your arms.
Steve figures out who she's referencing before you
“No way, my pool is private, not open to the public.”
Robin yanks on Steve’s arm from over the counter. “Oh come on Steve, the kids are there all the time. Would you be generous enough to share your fortune? For me, please?”
Steve is quiet, he’s thinking. Finally with a sigh, he decided “Fine, fine, whatever you guys can come hangout at my pool.” With that, Steve walks away with his stack of tapes.
Sorry Robin, there was no way in hell you were going to Steve’s house.
——————————————————————
You caved.
It’s hot, very hot, and all you can think about is taking a dip in a nice cold pool, even if it’s Steve’s pool.
Robin called you a while ago that she was already there. You waited another 30 minutes before heading out, really debating if you want to go.
You pull up to the address Robin gave you. You look at the address scribbled on the paper just to make sure you were at the right place.
You walk up to the front door and knock, no one answers. You sway back and forth on your feet and decide to knock again. No answers, maybe everyone is out back and can’t hear?
You’re thinking maybe now is the time to run back to your car and just go home. Your inner battle is interrupted by the door swinging open.
Steve stands there with a smug look on his face.
You stare back “um hey”
“Uh hi” he mocks you “were you thinking about walking away?”
What? Oh. “Where you just standing there watching me you freak?”
You know you should be nicer, it is his house after all but it’s hot and you're sweating and you feel like you’re melting and he’s being mean and he’s getting on your nerves.
“Well are we gonna keep standing here orrr”
Steve pushes the door open all the way, inviting you in.
You walk right past him and you keep walking but you have no idea where to go. Steve shuts the door after you and brushes past you, you assume he knows where he’s going so you just follow him.
As you walk through the house, you can’t help but stare at everything.Steve’s house is beyond nice, it’s beautiful. You linger behind him, focusing on every little thing you pass.
You aren’t paying attention and don’t realize that Steve has stopped walking.
You run right into him
“Okay who's the freak now, why are you starting down everything in here? it’s creeping me out.”
Dammit he noticed. No point in lying.
“Your house is insane”
“No it is not”
“Uh, yes it is.”
“No it’s not, it’s a normal house, now move.” He goes behind you and starts shoving you towards what you assume is the back door.
“Are you kidding me, this is not normal, you’re a true ten percenter.”
“Okay I get it, eat the rich or whatever.”
You look behind you and give him a disgusted look. “It doesn’t sound right when you say it.”
Steve ignores you and goes to open the back door. You are immediately greeted by the sound of yelling and splashing. How you didn’t hear it before is beyond you. Once you step outside and your eyes adjust to the light you see the culprits of the splashing.
A pool full of teens. A pool full of teens that are now staring at you.
Robin hops up from her lounge chair and walks towards you.
“Hey I thought you’d never make it, I called you forever ago.”
The delay was on purpose. “Yeah sorry, I got distracted, You know me.” Robin seems to buy the excuse and shrugs.
“Well come sit down.” Robin leads you over to the lounge chair right next to hers.
You go to sit down but you still feel lingering eyes. “Hey Rob, why are the children staring at me?”
She whips her head towards them and they immediately look away. “You’re new, they’re frightened.”
“Understandable.”
You leave it at that.
You sit in your chair but you can’t help but feel uncomfortable, caused by the mixture of heat and the situation itself.
Once you feel like everyones stopped staring you decide to take your jean shorts and top off. You try to be as nonchalant as you can, but you feel lingering eyes again. You turn to the kids but they're too wrapped up in whatever water fight they're having. You look more to your left and find the wandering eyes. Steve tries to act like he wasn't staring, he turns his head a bit too late, and it could just be the heat but you see a pink tint on his cheeks.
Weird.
You lounge on the chairs with Robin for a while. Robin seems unaffected by the sun, reading her book peacefully. You, on the other hand, are sweltering. Your skin is shiny with sweat. Everything in you wants to jump right into the pool but you don’t.
It’s weird. For some reason you feel almost embarrassed to get in the pool. You know Steve offered but you know it was reluctantly. Also, you have no idea who these kids are and the idea of just jumping in the pool with them makes you nervous.
How pitiful, a bunch of high schoolers are scaring you.
You take a deep breath in. Maybe Robin will want to get in with you. You glanced towards Robin, who is currently sipping on whatever drink Steve gave her, eyebrows scrunched tightly. She’s gotten to the good part of her book, so you can count Robin out of getting into the water with you.
This is fine, you think. You’ll just sit here and tan away. Maybe Robin will make the decision soon to get in and you’ll jump at the opportunity to join her.
You turn from your stomach onto your back. You use your hand to block the sun but something bigger in front of you does the job for you.
Steve stands in front of you. “You’re gonna pass out from the heat.”
You move your hand to look at him. “What are you talking about Steven?”
You hear a chuckle come from the pool “Steven? You call him Steven?” You lean over to see who's laughing. You see one of the kids hanging on the pool wall, he’s got a silly little grin on his face.
Steve turns around, “No, no one calls me Steven”
“Liar, I call you Steven all the time.”
Steve turns back towards you, “Yeah and I tell you not to every time you do.”
“Why, what's so wrong with calling you Steven?”
“Uh, maybe the fact that it isn’t my name”
You gasp, “No way that isn’t your real name.”
Steve puts a hand on his hip, “Oh as if you don’t know what my real name is.”
You give him a look.”What's that supposed to mean? Is everyone just expected to know who you are and what your name is, big shot.”
“Okay that isn't what I meant”
You and Steve start to bicker back and forth but are silenced by a loud groan coming next from you.
Robin slams her book shut, “do you see what you started Henderson, they were doing so well.”
Henderson, that's the name of the instigator.
You go to sit up, “I was doing just well until Harrington over here came up to me and started bothering me.”
“Well I just thought that you looked hot and-” he cuts himself off, “not hot, well yes hot, you look sweaty and gross and yeah, you know.”
You all just stare at Steve, You don’t know what bothers you more, the fact that he called you sweaty and gross, or that he was staring long enough to notice how uncomfortable you were getting with the heat.
You hear a full on belly laugh, it comes from the Henderson kid. He shakes his head laughing and swims back over to the other kids.
This leaves you, Steve, and Robin in an awkward silence.
Robin finally puts her book down on the side table next to her, “Alright maybe it is time to get in the water.”
Oh bless Robin, she may not always pick up on social cues but you internally applaud her for picking up this one.
You get up and start walking towards the pool. Robin jumps right in. You’re about to head in when you feel someone tap your shoulder. You turn around fully to look and it Steve. You're about to ask him what his problem is but before you can he gives you a smug smile and pushes you.
You lose your footing and fall right into the pool. You feel a splash right next to you from under the water. You assume Steve jumped in right after you.
You feel beyond embarrassed and stay as long as you can under the water. Gravity defies your wishes and you begin to float back up to the surface of the water. When your head breaks through the water you gasp for air. All you can hear is everyone laughing, but in the mixture of laughs is Steves.
He’s laughing, you’ve never seen him laugh this hard before. You can’t help but feel a little less angry. The water feels amazing and that's enough to fully disperse your anger.
The kids get distracted by their own antics and Robin joins in with them. You sit back, not really a fan of getting splashed. Steve swims over to you, still giggling. You try your hardest not to smile but you can’t help it.
When he reaches you he speaks up, “I wish you could’ve seen your face, it was the most hilarious thing ever.”
You splash a bit of water towards him. “Yeah well I didn’t really expect to get flung into the water.”
Steve shrugs his shoulders,”What did you expect?” You give a small laugh, “more from you, but shame on me for having faith.” You both just giggle. You sit in silence for a bit, just watching Robin and the kids fight over the only two tubes in the pool.
You glance towards Steve. He’s got a real big smile on his face. The suns hitting him straight on. He’s glowing and it makes your heart beat faster.
No, no,no,no.
You are not doing this. This is not what you need. You have seen about a bazillion girls go down this same path and you will not end up like the rest of them.
You continue swimming towards the stairs, “I'm just gonna sit on the stairs for a bit.”
“Hey if the kids are being overwhelming with all the splashing, I can tell them to stop.”
No Steve it’s not the kids, it’s you but he doesn’t seem to get it as he continues to follow you to the steps.
You don’t know how to fend him off so you do what you always do, you be mean. “Gosh Harrington can you just go bother someone else.” You sat on the stairs and looked at him and you wished you hadn’t.
Steve has got this sad puppy look. His browns pinched and brown eyes wide. Before you can apologize he turns and starts swimming towards the rest of the group, muttering a small whatever.
You sit alone with a pit in your stomach. You see everyone having the time of their lives. It's better this way you think. Better for you, better for him, better for everyone.
------------------------------------------------------------
A couple of hours have passed and Steve has steered clear of you. You’ve all been going back and forth between the pool and the chairs.
The kids worked up a huge appetite so Steve ordered some pizza and now everyone was lounging around.
You haven’t felt any better than you did earlier and you think you’ve stayed long enough.
You walk up to Robin who’s floating on a tube in the pool.
You lean over the pool so you can catch her attention.
“Hey Rob I think I’m gonna head out.”
She sits up in her tube, “what, why, the pizza hasn’t even gotten here yet.”
“It’s okay I’m not that hungry. Plus it’s getting late and I forgot my glasses.”
Robin groans, “what did I tell you about you glasses, you gotta keep them in your car man.”
They are in your car, but at this point you’re looking for any excuse to leave.
“Steve can drive you home. He has to drive me home anyways.”
You give her a look. “Robin, you can’t just offer for him.”
She gives you a sheepish smile. “I’m sure Steve won’t mind.”
“Steve won’t mind what.” Oh gosh you feel like you’re gonna cry.
You both look at Steve as he repeats his question.
“You don’t mind driving her home right.”
Whatever you said about Robin and social cues, this is what you meant.
You shake your head. “No he doesn’t have to drive me home, it makes no sense and plus he probably has to take all the kids home anyways.” That should do it.
It doesn’t. “Actually Nance is coming to pick them up. They’re having a sleep over at Mikes.”
Oh, Nance, Nance, you’ve heard about her.
Nancy, super cool badass Nancy who Steve has been hung up on since high school Nancy.
With your new found feelings, you’d rather not see them interact so even more reason to leave.
“Well I-” Robin cuts you off
“At least stay for pizza”
You stare at her and then glanced towards Steve, he doesn’t say anything.
“Okay Rob, I’ll stay for pizza.”
Robin gives a small yes and floats away on her tube.
You're done with the pool and want to change. You see Steve heading inside and step after him.
“Hey, mind if I borrow the bathroom.”
He just nods. You wait for instructions on where it is but none come.
Steve looks at you with a “what” look on his face.
“um , where’s the bathroom?”
Steve starts walking without saying anything. You follow behind him.
He leads you up the stairs. Finally you reach a bathroom which you assume is his based on all the hair products sitting on the counter.
“You can use this one. The kids are taking turns in the one downstairs so they won’t bother you up here.”
That's actually..really generous.
“Do you mind if I take a quick shower to rinse off the chlorine? It’s starting to burn my eyes.”
Steve just nods. “Be my guest.”
He shuts the door behind him, leaving you in the bathroom.
You lock the door and shimmy out of your wet bathing suit. It takes you a minute to figure out the hot water but when you do, you crank it up.
Once in the shower, you look at all the fancy products Steve has. You grab a shampoo bottle and are immediately hit with a familiar scent. You shake your head and put the bottle down. You grab the body wash and it's the same thing all over again. You quickly use it then rinse off and get out.
You feel like you're losing it. Everything in this bathroom is overwhelming you and you need to get out, quickly.
You lather lotion all over yourself and finish throwing on your clothes and run out the bathroom with your wet clothes in hand. You scurry down the stairs and head towards the back door. You can immediately smell the pizza and are grateful that the scent takes over the smell of Steve's body wash on you.
You see everyone surrounding the pizza boxes. Steve is trying her best to keep things in order but there's only so much he can do against a band of hungry teenagers.
You see robin sitting at the outdoor table with two plates, she pats the seat next to her. You walk over to her with a small smile.
“Hey, I was trying to save you a slice of pepperoni but us grown ups might be stuck with the supreme.”
You pat her on the back “thanks for trying, I’m proud of you either way.”
Robin smiles at the praise and hands you a plate with a supreme slice on it.
You take it but cant help but look at it with a bit of disdain. You actually don’t like supreme but you’ve actually worked up an appetite, so supreme will do.
Eventually each kid starts taking a seat at the table with you guys. You guys small talk until the Henderson kid gives you a compliment on your shirt. You give thanks and look down at it, thats when it dawns on you that it isn’t yours.
The shirt belonged to an ex of yours, you said you’d throw out all his things but you kept most of the t-shirts he left behind. They make great lounge shirts.
“Um thanks, it's actually my exes.” all the kids giggle and Robin gasps at you.
“What the heck, I should’ve known something was going on, that would explain why he asks about you every time he comes into the store.”
This is news to you and before you can defend yourself you hear Steve mumble a quiet “is that who that is ?”
It throws you off for a bit but then you and Robin start bickering back and forth about said ex.
Steve clears his throat loudly, “I’ll be back,” and with that he heads inside.
Robin rolls her eyes at him “dramatic much?” The kids laugh again and everyone starts chowing down on their pizzas.
You and Robin chat with the kids. They have you laughing so hard that you tear up a bit. You can see why Robin cares for them so much. You all continue to chat until you hear another set of laughs coming from the back door.
You all turn to look and you see Steve and Nancy. Steve looks at her like he’s hanging onto every sentence that comes out of her mouth You look down at your plate, you start to get that obnoxious feeling in your stomach and feel your heart pick up.
All the kids yell in unison “Nancyy!”
She laughs, “hey guys, had fun?”
They answer with their own responses.
Steve and Nancy come to sit down at the table where everyone else is.
Steve grabs a seat next to you and Nancy next to him. You want to get up and move but you feel like that might be a bit of an overreaction.
Steve grabs a plate and puts a slice on it and hands it over to Nancy, just like its second nature.
Nancy gives him a small thank you and starts eating her slice. You can't help looking back and forth between your plate and hers, you feel embarrassed.Your plate is filled with all the veggies you picked off your slice, while everyone else is eating it just fine.
Robin interrupts your internal conflict by leaning over to talk to Nancy.
“Hey Nance, this is my best friend by the way.”
Nancy puts her plate down and reaches her hand out to you, “hey it's really nice to meet you, I’ve heard a lot about you.”
You reach your hand across Steve to meet hers, “It’s great to meet you too, I hope it's been all things good.” She just smiles and nods. Steve lets out a snort after your comment. You do your best to just ignore him.
Everyone starts chattering away as you continue to pick at your pizza.
Out of nowhere Steve lets out a sigh and looks over towards you.
“What's the point of getting a supreme slice if you're not even gonna eat it right.”
You feel your face flush out of embarrassment at him calling you out.
“There weren't any pepperoni slices left.”
“So then just eat the pizza that's left.” he says with a mean tone to his voice.
“That's literally what I'm doing right now.”
“No you aren't, you practically picked everything off your slice, its just bread.”
You're starting to get annoyed with his comments. “Okay I don’t like what’s on a supreme slice , is that a crime?”
“Not a crime, it's just a waste.”
At this point you can feel everyone quieting around you. You know that your arguments with Steve are a form of entertainment for others but you don’t want to argue. However, against your better judgment, you continue.
“What is it with you today Harrington? You are especially intolerable today.”
He scoffs, “you ever consider the fact its because I am having to spend more time than usual with you.”
Ouch
“Okay, you were the one who invited me over.”
There's a shift in the air. Everyone around you can tell that this isn't just some silly bickering. Robin tries to change the subject but Steve just can’t let it go.
“Yeah, well that was for Robin and in all honesty I thought you’d have the decency not to show up, all things considered.”
Everyone goes dead silent, no more lingering chatter.
“Considering what Harrington?” you urge him on, you really want to hear him say it. For a second you think he’ll hold his tongue but then he blurts it out.
“Considering I despise you.” he’s quiet for a second but not for long. “You’ve got no shame you know, showing up to someone's house even though you’ve done nothing but shit on them every chance you get.”
Robin chair screeches from next to you. “Steve! What the hell?!”
Everyone stares at you wide-eyed, all expecting a quick whipped insult back. It never comes. You don’t have anything to say to Steve Harrington and you don’t think you ever will after this.
You quietly get up from your chair with your plate in hand. Your legs wobble a bit as you stand and Robin reaches for your arm, urging you not to leave. Robin's puppy eyes won't get you this time.
You grab your bag of things and speed walk to the back door. Once you’ve open the door, you can hear a hush chorus of what the hell’s. You drop your plate in the sink and walk through the house to get to your car.
You hear footsteps, and don't know who to expect. When you turn around you get surprised when you see Nancy standing right in front of you.
She approaches you with wariness
“Hey, I just wanted to check on you, make sure you're good to drive.”
You give a pitiful fake laugh, “yeah, i’m fine, I just really have to head out now.”
She walks with you, “that's not like him, well not anymore, I don’t really know what that was.”
“Look Nancy, I don't need you to defend him to me. That's how it's always been between the two of us. I think he’s right, no more long periods of time with the two of us.”
Nancy gives a sad smile, you know she can see right through you and you hate it.
“I’ve never really seen him act like this, but I don’t think he despises you, I’ve seen Steve hate and that isn’t it.”
You know she’s just trying to make you feel better but the whole ‘I know him’ spiel just makes your heart ache even more. Nancy does know Steve in that manner and you can’t stand it even after him blowing up on you.
You give Nancy a small smile and tell her goodbye.
You finally get into your car and rummage around for your glasses. You can’t find them. You can't help but laugh. You really didn’t have your glasses all this time. You turn your brights on, in hopes that it makes seeing a bit easier.
------------------------------------------------------------
You’ve been home for a while now and still are unable to sleep. Your brain is running a mile a minute and you’ve given up trying to lay down. You're sitting at your window staring out into space. You replay the conversation with Steve. You could still hear the way his voice raised and you can see the scowl on his face everytime you close your eyes.
You can’t just sit here, you’ve got to go and do something, anything to get your brain to just stop its constant buzzing. You grab your keys and a jacket as you head out your room. You don’t even bother changing out of your pajamas as you sneak out the side door. Your parents are heavy sleepers so you doubt they hear the engine turn but if they do that's just something youll deal with when you get back home.
You drive until you find a gas station that's still open. When you walk in, the cashier gives you an odd look. You ignore him as you go to grab all the snacks you crave. You usually have some self restraint but you think of it as a treat to make up for the day you had.
You walk out with a back full of candy and chips in one hand and an icy in the other.
When you make it back home you’re gathering your things when you see a car slowly rolling down the road. Still with no glasses, all you can do is squint really hard to try and make out the car. You see the car park two houses down the road and turn off. They sit in their car for a moment but finally you see the car door swing open. You decide that you might need to hurry inside.
you inhale sharply when you see the person making their way down the sidewalk, this time a lot closer than before. You start to speed walk to the side door.
All is well you think, until you hear a ‘hey’ come from behind you. You ignore it as you try your best to get your hands to stop shaking to unlock the door. You hear it again expect this time closer.
You freak out and the only thing you can do is chuck your slushy at whoever came up behind you and scream.
That's when you finally hear a string of curses from a voice that sounds oddly familiar.
You look over at the shadow figure and squint really hard. “Harrington?”
Steve, who now has slushy all over him looks up. “Yes, yes it's me Steve. Dude what the actual hell?” He looks back down at his shirt and tries to wipe pieces of frozen slushy off his shirt.
You look at him bewildered. Is he saying what the hell to you? After running up on you like some freak in the night?
“Hey that's my line, what else did you expect. You can't just creep up on a girl in the middle of the night, it's not right.”
Steve goes to argue back but you both see the light turn through the side door window.
You look back at each other with wide eyes.
“go, go hide somewhere.” you whisper shout to Steve, urging him to go anywhere that isnt right in front of your door.
He quickly rounds the corner of the house right as the side door opens. Your mother is standing in her robe with a frantic look on her sleepy face.
“What on earth is happening out here?”
“Oh, I was throwing away some trash.” you point to the bag in your hand, “then i saw some sort of critter run away from the trash cans.”
Your mom seems to believe your story. “Oh my gosh, did you see what it was?”
You shake your head. “No, i dont have my glasses.” you hope Steve is listening for the next part. “But I bet it was ugly and I hope it never comes back.”
Your mom’s too tired to pick up on your tone and just shakes her head back at you. “Why are you throwing away trash right now?”
“You know me and my late night cleaning.”
Yeah, you got her there. “Okay well don't forget to lock the door when you come back in, also please keep it down.”
“Sure thing mom, love you.” she gives a “love you too honey” and walks back towards her room.
You let out a breath you didn't know you were holding. You head over to where Steve was hiding. When you round the corner you see Steve standing there still trying to get the slushy off of him. You can't see much in the dark but you know for a fact that his shirt is ruined.
“What on earth are you doing here?”
Steve doesn’t look up at you, he just continues to fidget with his shirt.
“I don’t know, I was dropping Robin off. We talked for a bit and she gave me your address. I think I want to talk”
“You think you want to talk?”
“Yeah.”
Um, “about?”
“You ask a lot of questions.”
You scoff, “I think they’re warranted, all things considered.”
“True true, you got me there.”
You can’t really stand seeing a blurry Steve with red slushy dripping off of him so you speak before you can really think about it.
“Do you wanna come in?”
Steve finally looks up at you. “Like inside?”
“Where else would we be going?”
“But your parents are home.”
You let out an annoyed breath “Look you don't have to if you don't want to. I was just offering so you could get all that'' you motion towards his shirt, “off of you.”
Steve answers the second the sentence comes out your mouth. “Yes, yes, I’d like to come inside.”
“Okay well, come on.”
After asking him to take off his shoes, you have him sneak up the stairs as quietly as he can.
Once in your room you close the door behind you and lock it. Now that you're both in your room, you start to panic. You quickly look around to make sure there isn’t anything weird laying around. Steve doesn't seem like who knows where to look either. His eyes jump from item to item, scanning everything around your room.
You sort of have a deja vu moment to earlier when you were staring at everything in his house.
You clear your throat. “Um, through that door is the bathroom if you want to rinse off. I can find something that you can wear.”
You go to your drawers and rummage through until you find a shirt and shorts that you think will fit him. “Here, I think these should work.”
Steve takes the clothes from your hands. “More of your ex's clothes?” you think he’s trying to make a joke but his tone seems more upset than joking.
“No, that's actually my brother's old clothes.”
“Oh, well I’m gonna wash up.”
Before you can respond, Steve shuts the bathroom door behind him and you hear the shower turn on.
A bit of time passes and you hear the shower turn off, a bit of rummaging comes from the bathroom and finally Steve walks out. He’s got your brother's clothes on and his dirty clothes in hand.
“Is there any way I can try washing this?”
Now's probably not the best time to run the washer. “I think it’ll wake my parents.”
“Right” Steve nods.
“I can try scrubbing it in the sink.”
“Yeah , I’d appreciate it.”
You walk up and grab the shirt out of his hands. You go into the bathroom and he follows behind you. You reach under your sink and take out some bleach and a scrub. Steve takes a seat on the edge of the tub behind you.
There's no sound but the faucet running and you scrubbing at the stains on his shirt. Once you've scrubbed as hard as you can, you ring out the shirt and hang it on the towel rack.
“I couldn't get it all out but I think I did some damage.”
“Thanks, I really appreciate it.”
There's a pause, “I deserved it.”
Agreed. “Yeah , you really scared me.”
Steve shakes his head. “Not for that.”
You immediately know what he’s talking about and the mention of it seems to reignite whatever irritation you had for him.
“Yeah, talk about hospitality.” Steve doesn't seem to enjoy your sarcastic tone but he takes it nonetheless.
“Look, I was really irritated and everything you were saying was just really setting me off and” he pauses. “ if I could just explain my perspective I think you’d be able to under-”
Is he really telling you how irritating you were being?
You cut him off before he can finish. “What did you come over for?”
“What?”
“What did you come over for? Was it to apologize because where you were headed didn't sound like an apology.”
He gives no answer.
“I’d rather you not apologize if you don’t mean it.”
“I think we both have some apologizing to do.”
That throws you for a loop. “What do I have to apologize for?” Steve huffs, “You aren’t exactly innocent in all of this.”
“I didn’t embarrass you in front of a group of people you’ve just met. I also didn't kick you out of my house, which I'm thinking I should do now.”
“Woah, I did not kick you out of my house.”
You scoff, “Might as well have but don't worry, I now have the decency to never show up again.” you’re being mean and you know it but you can’t help it. Everything is so back and forth with Steve and you can’t help but revert back to where you guys started.
Fighting, saying mean things to one another should feel normal but it doesn't. You see Steve's face and he looks so defeated and usually that has no effect on you but it does this time.
“I don’t want to argue with you. It’s late and I’m tired.”
Steve goes to say something else but you beat him to it. “Aren't you tired?” Steve knows you’re not just talking about the time of night. He knows what you’re insinuating.
You let out a sigh and slump into the counter behind you. “Some people just don’t get along. Forcing a relationship isn’t going to get us anywhere.”
Steve looks up from the ground “What’s that supposed to mean?”
You give a small shrug, you fiddle with your nails. “Maybe we just need to steer clear. It makes Robin uncomfortable, I can see it.” Steve stays quiet so you continue.
“She’s my best friend and I love her and for some reason she loves you just as much. I don’t want her to choose.” Robins is really good at hiding it in small jokes and jabs but you can see it in her face when you and Steve argue. Everyone else sees it as silly bickering but Robin knows the extent of it, she hears both sides constantly nagging about the two people she loves the most.
Steve finally speaks up “Yeah, I’ve picked up on that too.” you both make eye contact and Steve’s eyes still look so sad. “So what, we just ignore each other, I don’t think that’ll make Robin any happier.”
You let out a laugh and Steve looks at you bewildered. “What’s so funny?”
“We sound like divorced parents, like we're trying to figure out what the best course of action is for our kid.” Steve doesn’t find it as funny and you don’t get why, he seems genuinely distraught and you can't help but point it out.
“Why so serious? This is like a dream come true for you.”
Steve stands up from the tub and walks a few a couple steps and ends up right in front of you.
“You’re an idiot.” Is he serious right now? He wants to go again?
“What the actual hell is your problem? I am trying to be civil and you’re being an assho-”
“I’m an idiot too.” Okay, what is going on? Steve steps a bit closer and you try to scoot away but you're stopped by the counter behind you. He’s so close to you, you can smell your body wash and shampoo on him.
“Did you use my soap?”
He gives a simple “yes” and proceeds, “did you want to just sit in the water and not actually clean myself?”
“Well I didn’t know the hair could stand anything under a thirty dollar range.”
Steve doesn’t look as sad any more and you’re even more confused. “No, not usually, but I made an exception tonight.”
You're arguing with Steve, at least you think you are, but you second guess yourself because Steve seems sooo… bubbly?
You focus in, “okay we need to finish talking.”
Steve just shakes his head. “I don’t want to talk about that anymore.”
what.is.happening?
“Can I tell you what I came for?”
“We already discussed this, you came to tell me how annoying I am and yada yada.”
Steve shakes his head again. “No, you never really let me finish. You just kind of ran with the conversation.”
That's…kinda true.
You stay quiet and let him speak.
Steve lets out a sigh. “I was irritated. I had been on edge all day at the idea of you coming over to my house. I was scared to have someone who I don’t get along with in my space. I was even more nervous to see how things would be around all the kids.”
He pauses, you bump your knee with his to get him to continue. “The way I get with you, I don’t act like that in front of the kids or really with anyone. I’m never sure where we will go and it was all unsettling, but then you got there and everything was fine and the kids thought we were a hoot and things felt, well, normal.”
You nod your head agreeing, things were fine. “It was going great but then you got all defensive again and it threw me off, kinda brought me back to reality. The reality is that you don’t like me.”
He inhales deeply before releasing it and continuing . “It upset me because I don’t feel that way about you, not anymore. At first yeah, you totally annoyed the shit out of me, but after time I found myself annoying you on purpose. If it got you to talk to me then it would do. Trust me I still felt bothered by you every now and then but it was different.”
Whatever realization you just had today, Steve had it a while ago.
You look down at Steve’s hands and they clench at his sides, and then he does something that surprises you. Steve brings his hands to rest on the counter behind you. He’s now trapped you in between his arms, but you don’t feel trapped, you feel oddly okay with this.
You and Steve are so close now, you can really smell your body wash lingering off of him. It makes your cheeks heat up. The idea of him in your shower, using your products like it’s no big deal feels intimate.
You look down at your feet to try and hide your blush but Steve brings his head down to find your eyes. When you look back up Steve’s got a serious look on his face.
“Not that you have to respond, but I'm not gonna lie, I'm so nervous right now I might die.”
You let out a laugh and Steve smiles at you, “you’re so dramatic.” Steve nods, “yeah, i'm all sorts of things when it comes to you.”
You feel like you can’t breathe, Steve has become so earnest in a matter of minutes and you don’t know how to handle it. You panic and say the first thing that comes to mind. “And what about you and Nancy?”
Steve looks upset for a second but then his face morphes into confusion, “What about me and Nacy.”
You shrug, trying to seem indifferent, “ Robins always going on about how hung up you are on her.”
“You know if I didn’t love Robin so much, I'd really put her through the ringer.”
You nod your head in agreement, Rob can be a bit much sometimes. Steve continues, “I think she interpreted that all wrong, I do talk about Nancy, that's true, but it’s not because I’m hung up on her.” he sighs, “I treated her pretty badly and I regret it so much and I think I always will but there's nothing with Nancy, that's over, closed, done .”
“Oh and, she’s got a boyfriend and they’re really great together and I'm happy fo-”
You cut Steve off by bringing your hand up to cover his mouth , “okay okay I get it. Point proven.”
You can feel him smile from under your hand, he lifts one of his hands up to grab yours. When he does, he keeps it in his hold. You flex your hand in his, not knowing what to do, he grips your hand tighter, thinking you're trying to pull away.
You both stand there for a minute before you gain the courage to speak. “What does this mean, for us?”
Steves quick to respond. “Whatever you want it to mean, if you want it to mean anything.”
He’s got a hopeful look in his eyes and you just can't turn him down, not anymore.
“I, Look, this is all very new to me. A couple hours ago I thought I was going to drown you in your own pool but now, drowning you doesn't seem as appealing to me.”
Steve laughs, like fully laughs, and for a moment you're scared your parents are going to hear him, but you're too distracted by him to care.
“Oh my gosh, talk about the confession of the century. Your’e not really good at this.”
Your’e mildly offended. “Yes I am, this is just different.”
“Was it different with your ex boyfriend too?”
Oh seriously?
“Why are we talking about my ex boyfriend right now? He’s not relevant to the conversation.”
No I guess not but since we’re on the topic, what's all that about?”
You give him a questionable look. “Whats’ my ex all about?”
“Yeah”
“um , he’s a guy that I dated, and then we broke up?”
You're questionable because you don't really know what he’s looking for.
Steve drops your hand to lean forward on the counter again. You can't help but be a little sad, just a little.
“Oh wow really, no, I mean why’s he always asking about you and why do you still have his clothes?”
You give a little shrug, “I actually had no idea he was asking about me, I really need to ask rob about that and I kept some of his shirts because, well, they're comfortable.”
Steve blinks at you. “Because they're comfortable?”
You nod.
Steve chuckles and leans in to put his head on your shoulder. “I'm gonna lose my mind, I really am.”
Woah woah woah, if you thought you were blushing before, you really are now.
Steve goes to lift his head up and you quickly push it back onto your shoulder. You’ll be damned if he sees you blushing this hard.
Steve laughs again and you can't help but laugh with him.
“Um, what's going on?”
“Nothing.”
“Nothing?”
“Mhm.”
You take a moment to really feel Steve’s hair and you're honestly a little jealous. Never in your life have you felt hair as smooth and silky as his. You continue and rub your hand through his locks. You’re not really holding his head down anymore but he makes no effort to lift it up.
You hear him sigh and it knocks you out of your daze. You lift your hand up and Steve shoots his head up.
“Why’d you stop?
“What?”
He just repeats the question. “I- I don't know, I just thought that I should?”
Steve shakes his head, “man you're really out of your element here huh?”
You get defensive. “Uh no I am not, I just,” you let out a breath, “ Steve, I meant it when i said things are different with you but it's not a bad different, it's a good different and I think that- ”
Steve stops your rambling, eyes wide. “Did you just call me Steve?”
You stop to think, you didn't even realize you had.
“That is your name isn't it?”
Steve says nothing for a moment and then out of nowhere his hands are on your sides. He pulls you forward. You gasp in shock.
Steve looks you right in the eyes and asks “say it again.”
You play coy “it again.” Steve lets out a frustrated groan and gives your hips a shake “say my name again. If you don't, I think I might die.”
He’s really pulling out all the stops and he’s almost got you “Say please.”
Steve is as close as he’s ever been when he whispers a quiet “please”
You say his name even quieter but he’s close enough to pick it up
“Steve.”
There's a split second where Steve stares at you with a look that has so much meaning and all you do is nod and he’s invaded your space fully.
Steve kisses you with such urgency, like he’s waited his whole life for this moment and you can't help but meet him with the same furocity.
He’s obviously very skilled and the thought of all his past endeavors have you feeling green but as if he can read your mind, Steve pulls you in even closer, pressing himself against you.
You think you could do this forever but your lungs are demanding air.
Steve doesn't let you pull away for any longer than a second, each gasp of air is eaten by him right after. You can't help but smile into the kisses. Steve pays no mind and just lands kiss after kiss after kiss. You feel so light headed and airy, you think you’ll faint if this goes on any longer.
You bring your hands to his hair again, which elicits a groan from Steve. That alone makes you want to continue but you’ve got to breathe. You grab a hold of his locks and pull gently, Steve pulls away long enough for you to say his name again. Another groan follows.
He’s rushing forward, eyes on your lips, when you grip his hair tighter, he winces and you immediately rush to apologize.
“Oh my gosh I’m so sorry, I just needed a minute and that's the only thing I could think of.”
Steve pants out a response. “Next time you wanna stop, definitely don't do that cause that does not make me want to stop.”
It doesn't take much time for you to get how he’s insinuating.
You run your hands along the spots that you tugged on, hoping to soothe the sting.
“I'm sorry Steve.”
The sweet tone in your voice has Steve back on you, kissing along your jaw.
“Say.”
Kiss
“It.”
Kiss
“Again.”
You let out a sweet sigh, “Steve”
“Again.” he says as he makes his trail down the side of your neck.
you breathe out an airy laugh, “Steve”
you’d say his name a million times, over and over again, if this is what it got you.
Finally, after what feels like forever, Steve pulls away.
“You're gonna get tired of your own name if you keep making me say it.” you say teasingly
Steve’s still holding you close, “No way, not if it’s you saying it.”
You hum. You both stand close, basking in each other's presence when all the sudden you hear a loud crack.
You and Steve both jump at the sound. You both walk out the bathroom hand in hand. Steve gets in front of you, like he’s trying to protect you from whatever made the noise. It makes your heart stutter.
When you both walk into your room you notice that rain is coming down hard and you’ve still got your window open.
“Shit” you say scurrying over to the window.
Steve comes up right behind you to help push the window down. He does so with little effort of course.
You both linger and suddenly something comes to mind. “It's raining.”
“I see that.” Steve gives you a little smirk. “Pretty hard too.”
You nod “yeah, as your host” you pause to make sure he’s paying attention, “I just can't, with a conscious mind, let you drive in that rain. It's for your safety.”
Steve nods aggressively, “of course, of course.”
You clap your hands, “well that's that.” without another word, you drag him over to your bed. You throw your hoard of pillows onto the ground and fall onto your bed. Steve stands still, not really sure what to do.
“Whatcha thinking about?”
Steve, still standing, says “things, many many things.”
You scoot into a comfortable position and pat the spot next to you “woah you move fast, freak.”
Steve gives an offended look but finally goes to lay down next to you. You both lay there, facing one another.
“I didn’t even say anything.”
You bring your hand up to flick him on the forehead, “you didn't have to, I can see it in your eyes.”
Steve grabs your hand before you can pull it away. “Whatever, you’re imagining things.” Steve tries his best to change the subject but you can see his face turning red.
“Steve,” you say, dragging his name, “are you blushing right now?”
Steve goes to cover your eyes, “Shut up, aren't you blind? You’re seeing things.”
You pry his hand away. “I am not blind.” you say, going to pinch his sides.
Steve tries and succeeds in pinning your hands down, he’s above you grinning. “Why are you insistent on harming me all of a sudden? Is it like a kink or something?”
You feel your face heat up, “what? Absolutely not. And what about you with the hair pulling?”
Steve is stunned silent. “Lets…. Let's not go there.”
Still with your hand pinned, “I think we should actually, you seem to really get a kick out of me yanking on your hair, I can only imagine what else you like being yan-”
Steve cuts you off with a bruising kiss and as much as you like teasing him, this is much much better.
Steve kisses with so much passion, almost like he can’t help it, it makes you get that sickly sweet feeling in your stomach.
Obviously distracted, he lets go of your hands and they immediately fly up to his hair. You think you might be obsessed with it.
Steve runs his hands up and down your body, your shirt scrunching up due to this. Steve wastes no time and slides his hands under your shirt to feel your skin. This causes you to gasp into his mouth. Steve likes this reaction, grinning into your lips.
You bring your legs to wrap around his back and pull him down. Steve stumbles a bit and is now pressing himself into you.
You break apart from him, gasping for air. Steve immediately kisses a trail down your neck. Hands still in his hair, eyes closed, you let out a blissful sigh.
Deciding to be a bit mischievous, Steve nips at different spots on your neck, eliciting small sounds from you, until he finally finds a spot that has you bringing a hand to cover your mouth.
You feel like you're floating, like you're dreaming and none of this is real. Is this real?
You lay your hands on the sides of Steve's face and lift. When he looks up, he’s looking at you with the dreamiest eyes. You need to reach a stopping point but with that look you just can't help it.
One more, you think. You guide him up to kiss you again and this time it’s so sweet you think you might cry.
One more turns into two, then a dozen more.
Finally after what feels like an eternity, you find yourselves with Steve resting his head in the crook of your neck, still kissing the skin there from time to time.
You lay there, running your hands through his hair, everyone now and then getting a sound of approval.
Steve breaks the silence first. “You know earlier, at my house, I really did feel like a freak.”
You give a small laugh. “What? Why?”
Steve, still with his face buried in your neck, “You were sitting in your bathing suit and you were legitimately glistening in the sun, and I could not for the life of me, stop looking.”
That's why you felt like someone was watching you, you'd just never assume it was him.
Steve continues, “that's when i decided to get you into the pull, I thought that if I pushed you in, you’d look like a wet dog and all would be well.”
You scoff and slap the side of his head “real nice Steve.”
He laughs, “let me finish” you can feel his hands fiddling at your side. “That totally backfired on me because you came up from the water and it was like, in slow motion, and you were laughing, like actually laughing and in that moment I could have died.”
“Steve, how's this gonna work? I can't have you almost dying every time I'm being a total babe, because that's like all the time.”
Steve nods in agreement. “Oh yeah, totally not good for my health at all, but you’re worth it.”
This makes your heart swell.
You both fall into a comfortable silence. You feel your eyelids getting heavier and heavier. You can feel Steve’s breathing getting slower as well. Before you realize, you both drift off to sleep.
——————————————————————————
When you stir awake, you’re lost for a split second before you remembered what all transpired last night. It's still pouring rain outside and you have no will to get out of bed, not that you could anyways. You don't know how, but Steve has managed to get most of his body laying on yours, head still tucked away and arm tightly wrapped around your waist.
You're totally fine laying like this until you get the urge to pee. You’re squirming finally wakes him up and for a moment you're hopeful that you can be freed to use the restroom. Steves blinks at you but then just closes his eyes and tightens his arm around you.
“Steveee.” he ignored you. “Steve, I have to get up.”
Steve shakes his head and gives a simple no.
“Yes, I have to. I have to go to the-”
You go quiet when you hear the stairs squeak from outside your door.
Now you really start to panic and yet, Steve is still insistent on holding you down.
You whisper now “Steve, no more jokes, it's my parents.” This has Steve shooting his head up, eyes now equally as wide as yours.
He lets you go and before he can say anything, you shoot out of bed and start throwing all your pillows and throw blankets over him into a big pile. He looks lost and you whisper to him. “Don't move, matter of fact, don't breathe.” and you throw one more pillow right onto his face.
You go to your door right as you hear a knock. You crack your door open slightly and see your mom.
“Good morning”
“Good morning.” you say, trying to sound normal.
You hear your dad from down stairs yelling that he’ll be in the car.
Your mom yells that she’ll be right there.
They’re leaving? Score!
Your mom looks you up and down. “We're heading to your aunts for breakfast, we’ll be back a bit later.”
You nod, trying to be nonchalant. “Yeah yeah, sounds good.”
You pray that's all but your mom says something else.
“Im assuming the animal came back last night.”
“um , what mom?”
Shes got a funny smile on her face, “the critter that scared you last night, it came back right.”
Ooooh, you’re done for.
You both look down the stairs when you hear the front door close. Youre mom looks back at you.
“Whatever is going on, we’ll talk later okay?”
You nod defeatingly. “Yeah okay.”
Your mom ruffles your hair through the crack in the door.
“And hunny?”
“Yes?”
“Go uncover that poor boy before you suffocate him to death.” and with that she walks down the stairs and you hear the door close for the second time.
Your a bit stunned at your door but your knocked out of it when you hear steve rise up from his pile, gasping for air.
You turn around and walk towards him. “Soooo my mom totally knows your here.”
He winces, “yeah I could kinda hear her.”
You sit down next to him. “On the brightside, it looks like my dad didn’t.”
Steve gives you a look. “Is that a brightside?” you nod your head. “Oh yeah, my dad would have killed you.”
Steve’s eyes go wide and you can't help but bust out in laughter. In a rush, he grabs you and has you both falling back into the bed.
“Don't play like that, you’re gonna give me a heart attack.” you pat his chest. “Oh that definitely wasn't a joke, you should definitely fear the old man.”
Steve gulps. “I dont know whats worse, that or trying to explain all of this to Rob.”
Oh damn. Robin.
You sigh. “That might take the cake.” Steve gives a mhm.
You sit up and swing you legs over Steve’s legs, now straddling him.
“We could sit and talk about how your ass is grass orrr we could do something else.”
Steves hands come up to grip your waist. “The second option, definitely the second option.”
“I like your thinking Harrington.” Steve gives you a look and pulls you down for a bruising kiss.
You’re absolutely done for.
You think this is a slippery situation. Steve will be able to get away with a lot when he finds out that all he has to do is kiss you. You think it might be the same for him.
Steve gives your side a pinch and you gasp into his mouth. This has him sliding his tongue into yours. His hands find their way under your shirt and caress your bare sides.
Steve continues with his slow languid kisses and you think that you won’t be able to live through another morning if it’s not like this.
You smile at your inner thoughts, finding it funny how his dramatics have rubbed off on you. Steve doesn’t question it and continues.
When you two finally pull away you go to lay next to him. Staying up super late and waking up early, the tiredness begins to creep up on you both.
No more words are spoken. With the rain pouring down and your room still being gloomy from the clouds, you decide that sleeping again is inevitable. Steve seems to agree as he’s already got his eyes closed and arm thrown around your stomach.
Everything can wait, you think.
Your mom
Robin
Your dad
The whole world for all you care.
With one final glance towards Steve, you close your eyes and are lulled to sleep by the rain hitting the roof.

I think I’ll die
Steve Harrington x reader (enemies to lovers) (kinda?)
Pt.2
“Why’d you stop?”
