Over the past eighteen years you couldn't picture a single day you and Coriolanus hadn't spent together. Birthdays, school days, even throughout the war, you spent time together.
Today was different. He hadn't met you this morning and you couldn't help but miss his presence. His character enveloped a room, always making it clear he was there without really having to say a word. You found it comforting, others found it threatening.
The Tributes arrived early this morning and it was something you had dreaded, very soon you would actually have to meet Wovey. Mentor her, care for her, and it riddled you with guilt knowing that it was all a challenge. Her life was a challenge to you.
Coryo's presence could've softened that burden and yet, he wasn't here. No warning no explanation he just didn't show.
"Where's Snow?" Asked Arachne as you all stood outside your classroom at the Academy, preparing for yet another lecture from Casca.
"I wouldn't know." You shrugged, secretly seething at your boyfriends disregard to tell you where he was going before he disappeared.
"Oh please. You two are practically attached at the hip." Scoffed Festus. Fixing his hair in a small compact mirror which he carried around in his bag.
"I heard he's with his songbird." Mock sang Felix. Knowing it would most likely piss you off to the high heavens.
"And where did you hear that, Felix?" You asked, tilting your head in questions, eyebrows furrowed. While Felix was a tease he was not a liar.
"Lucky's newest interview. He was in the zoo with the tributes, I mean it was almost comedic. But, I've got to say the most interesting part was when they held hands." He said. You couldn't hide the anger on your face no matter how hard you tried and it was only made worse when you spotted Sejanus' sympathetic glance from over his shoulder.
"Well, he is very motivated to win the Prize I suppose." You murmured, now embarrassed, even if they weren't aware he was your boyfriend he was supposed to be your closest ally and here he was prancing around with his new decoration.
Much to your pleasure the large wooden door swung open, everybody filing into the room and taking their assigned seats, the one next to yours empty.
His seat.
Finally, minutes later he entered looking rather sheepish. If he was ashamed you were glad, he should be.
"Your little excursion is in violation of about five Academy rules Mr Snow." Spoke Casca. Deep down you were pleased that he had broken rules, pleading in your mind that this would prevent any further ventures. "Amongst them, endangering a Capitol student."
"Who?" He asked, stopping in his tracks as though he was insulted by the accusation.
"You. I'm moving for the Game makers to disqualify you as a mentor immediately." Casca answered. Guiltily you were happy, you just hoped your face didn't show it as Coriolanus sat down next to you.
"You said that we had to get our tributes to perform, not that we had to stay away." He said leaning against the banister of your seats.
"I don't believe holding their hands was in that agreement." You snarled from behind him and you immediately regretted it as he turned to you, hurt that you weren't defending him.
"Right you are Miss L/N." Casca replied.
"Holding her hand, introducing her to people. You make it look as if were one in the same as those animas." Arachne added. You didn't agree with that, they were very much the same as us but his effort to care for her wounded you internally.
"Coriolanus didn't show those people anything they didn't already know. That the tributes are human beings. Just like us. That's why nobody wants to watch the Games, because people know deep down, that winning a war ten years ago doesn't justify starving peoples children." Sejanus added, yet you couldn't help but feel like Coriolanus didn't truly agree, he just wanted to be let loose for his wrong doings.
"Snow fell. Down in the cage, it fell down in the cage but it landed-" Doctor Gaul appeared, frightening you and many others. She had an atmosphere similar to Coriolanus, threatening and brazen. Maybe that should've scared you more than any District Twelve girl, yet it didn't.
"On stage." Snow finished her riddle without hesitation.
"You're good at games. Maybe one day you'll be a Game maker like me." She grinned evilly. You didn't miss Coriolanus' smile when hearing this and something deep within you stirred.
"Only if the games continue at all." Casca replied.
"Oh they'll continue, with performances like young Mr Snow in that zoo. In fact I came to ask your star Mentor a question. What are the Hunger Games for?" She said confidently.
"They're to punish the Districts for their uprising. To commemorate the end of the war." Coriolanus answered thou hit felt scripted and to some extent it was. That very answer was drilled into your heads from the moment you entered the Academy.
Sejanus began to discredit the Games, calling them what they are. Cruel. Doctor Gaul didn't like that.
"Perhaps the Capitol students are ill suited to be mentoring tributes, perhaps the Games time has passed." Casca said and something about it told you he was on Sejanus' side, that he didn't agree with the very games he created.
"Dean Highbottom is wrong. My classmates too. Maybe Sejanus is onto something, maybe we should be viewing those tributes as human beings." Coriolanus spoke and you tugged at his shirt for him to sit down, to stop defending this inhumane act but he slapped your hand away. "I mean you saw those kids in the zoo, they just wanted to get to know Lucy Gray. If we need people to watch we should be letting them get closer to the tributes before the games. Make the stakes personal." You felt embarrassed by his every word. Embarrassed by his obsession with Lucy Gray and embarrassed that he believed in these games.
"Who will watch the games if they care what happens to the tributes?" Asked Doctor Gaul and even to you, the answer was obvious. Everyone.
"Everyone." Answered Snow, predictable. "If they thought the tribute they cared about had a chance of winning, people need someone to root for and against. We need them to invest. If we bend a few Capitol laws, we could even have them place bets." He continued his proposal.
"You forget you're talking about real people Coriolanus, not just characters in your wider game." You said, eyes cold as he once again turned to you seeming betrayed, you no longer cared.
"Look I know Lucy Gray may not win in the arena but if you give her a chance, I would bet the Plinth Prize that she can win peoples attention." He ignored you, instead once again talking about Lucy. You felt sick by his obsession, betrayed. How long had you been the one to care for him, to root for him and here he was digging a dagger in your heart.
"I would like you to write up a proposal of these thoughts tonight Mr Snow." Doctor Gaul stated. "Perhaps your classmate can help you?" She smirked towards you in question.
You shook your head while keeping your eyes trained on the front of the room, you refused to be apart of his play for Lucy Gray's victory.
Tumblr media
You sat alone at lunch, thinking. What was going on between him and that girl and why was he suddenly the Games biggest supporter. You understood the Plinth Prize meant a lot to him. That it would open doors but this was a step too far.
"Y/N, a pleasure." A voice you knew all too well said as it took the seat across from you.
"Coriolanus." You answered bluntly before taking another bite of your sandwich. He could tell something was off from the moment you used his full name, usually calling him Coryo.
"What was that little show back there, hm?" He asked, blue eyes a weapon as he glared at you. Something you had never been on the receiving end of before.
"I could ask you the same thing." You replied, putting your food down to glare back.
"It's a competition, Y/N. One which could change my life, I know you don't have to worry about winning but this means everything to me. You know that. I know the games are animalistic but they'll go on either way-." He defended though you cut him off.
"That's what you think I'm upset about?" You said, exaggerating the 'that's'.
"It's not?" He asked, now curious.
"I don't know, Coriolanus maybe I'm upset about you being obsessed with Lucy Gray. I mean, she's all you've spoken about since the Reaping, you held her hand! Risked your life for her!" You exclaimed in angry, drawing attention to your table.
"Oh what, so your jealous?" He smirked, clearly amused by your outrage.
"Jealous does little to describe what I am feeling, Snow. This is another level. When will you realise that that girl is using you, just as you are using her. Nothing more nothing less. I however am still here, I have been there for years, for you!" You shouted once more and he grew agitated as the room stared, grabbing your wrist with unnecessary aggression to pull your face down to this.
"Don't make a scene Y/N. You're acting like a little girl." He gritted out through his teeth.
"Fuck you, Coriolanus Snow." You replied equally quiet and with menace laced in your words. You saw his face change, as if the anger once there was replaced by a mask of sympathy. It felt ingenuine.
"Come on, Y/N. You know I love you right? I have for how long now, years." He said with kind eyes.
"Don't kid yourself." You scoffed. Though his face stayed the same his grip on your wrist tightened, leaving pink indentations.
"I love you, Y/N. Okay? Not Lucy Gray. She's my tribute just like you said, nothing more nothing less." He once again reassured, never giving up his hold.
Finally the fire in your heart gave out to him and his stupid Snow charm. It never failed to make you swoon and hearing those three words, ones you gave to each other not very often, you just wished to be in his arms.
"Okay." You retreated.
"Okay and?" He asked.
"I love you too." You answered, relieved when he let your wrist go, you were quick to move it below the table, scared to see what he had done to your wrist.
"Good. Now come on, I'm going to give some food to Lucy Gray, strengthen her, I assume you would like to meet Wovey." He said, getting up from his chair. You didn't want to meet Wovey, not really, scared to look her in the eyes. You did however want to meet his pretty little Songbird.
Tumblr media
You walked together, hand in hand towards the zoo. He was back to his caring self after the flash of rage you previously saw. It wasn't the first time that side of him had flashed and you knew it wouldn't be the last but moments like these made it all worth it.
Your relationship was secret, but you felt no need to hide it anymore, now determined to show he was yours. Show everyone.
At first you stuck by his side, even when he spoke to Lucy Gray and you felt yourself flinch as she rushed over.
"That for us?" She asked as he held food out to her. Watching as she gave some to her fellow District Twelve Tribute, Jessup. "And who might this be?" She asked, eyeing up your joint hands.
"Wovey's mentor." He answered, without a second thought. Though when you squeezed his hand, his answer changed. "My girlfriend, I mean. Y/N L/N."
"Well Miss L/N, you sure do have the cream of the crop here with Mr Snow. He's a lovely young man." She smiled at you, you couldn't tell if it was your own paranoia telling you it was ingenuine or if she really didn't feel happy for you.
"Oh, and don't I know it." You smiled back. "You've equally had such luck I must say. He's a fine mentor." You added, patting his chest as you boosted his ego.
"Well, thank you." He said, kissing your forehead. "But uh, could you give me and Lucy Gray a moment, Mentor to Tribute?" He asked and that once burnt out flame of jealousy flickered within you as you left to speak to Wovey. You watched as they now leant against the fence to talk, lips inches away, crouched together.
Wovey was a sweet young girl, grateful as you gave her food and she shared it with Bobbin who she had been sat with, you didn't mind her sharing seeing as some Mentors has made little effort to offer any help.
You patted her shoulder through the fence, promising your support to help her reach the end of the games though it seemed she didn't care about winning and you admired her bravery.
A scream cut said conversation short as you looked to see Arachne's neck being stabbed with a smashed glass bottle. Play stupid games win stupid prizes.
You and Coriolanus both rushed over. Even if she was mean and bitchy she was your friend for the last five years and you had grown fond of the girl.
You whispered reassurances as she cried, placing pressure on her neck until you were literally dragged off of her by Peacekeepers, watching as her final breath left her body.
"No, no, no." You whispered with glassy eyes as her body became smaller and smaller on the ground - until it was too far into the distance to see.
It was clear the games had officially begun, and the tributes were winning.

Part 2
You turned your head to the direction the voice had come from. You stood there in shock, words caught in your throat as you met his eyes.
"This isn't real." You thought. "I must be hallucinating."
But as you scanned the group, you saw that they all wore the same horrified look of shock as you did.
"B—B—Bradley?" You stuttered out. "Are you real?" You asked. You weren't sure if you wanted him to answer. You felt like you were going to be sick.
"I'm very real." He responded before taking a step towards you.
Your eyes grew even wider. You could feel your heart pounding rapidly in your chest. You looked from him to Jake, to your friends, and back to him.
You felt hot all over, and your palms were sweating. You felt like you couldn't get enough oxygen in your lungs. The world was spinning as you tried to process everything. You were sure you looked like a crazed animal, and you could feel everyone's eyes on you.
You saw Maverick out of the corner of your eye approaching you. His hands reaching out towards you. You could see his mouth moving, you knew he was speaking to you, but you couldn't hear him.
Panic set deep in your chest. You tried to say something, but your mouth was dry. It was all too much. You couldn't process what was happening. You took a shakey step towards Maverick before collapsing in his arms.
Both Jake and Rooster rush forward to help him. Jake reached your limp body first. "Here, Mav, let me take her inside," He says.
Rooster immediately pushes him out of the way. "Absolutely not Bagman, she's my wife, or did you forget that?" Rooster spits out.
"You've also been missing and presumed dead for the past two years, Bradshaw." Jake argues back. Both of them straighten to their full heights and puff out their chests.
"How about Phoenix and I take her inside." Bob says, stepping between the two of them, trying to diffuse the situation.
"That sounds like a good idea, Bob. We'll get everything cleaned up out here, and then Pete and I will take Nick for a bit while you all, em— talk, " Penny says.
Bob scoops you up while Phoenix helps him get you to your bedroom and lay you down. The two of them take a seat at your reading nook, ready for when you wake up.
The rest of the squad cleans everything up. Rooster goes inside, heading for the kitchen to get a drink. Jake stays outside.
Once finished, Penny shoos everyone away and grabs Nick. She knows that she and Pete have everything he needs at their home in case he needs to stay with them. Before they leave, Maverick stops to speak to Jake.
"Do you want me to stay?" He asks. "No, Mav, I'll be fine." Jake assures him. Maverick gives him a small smile before he and Penny leave.
Rooster paces the kitchen like a caged animal. His hands are shaking as he takes another sip of his whiskey.
In the bedroom, you shoot up with a gasp. "Easy there." Phoenix says coming to comfort you.
"Phe, Bob, I just had the most disturbing dream. It was Nick's birthday party, and Bradley—Bradley just walked through the door, and Jake—Jake proposed to me. It was—" you couldn't finish before crying.
"Honey," Phoenix softly touched your shoulder. "That wasn't a dream. Rooster's here. Everything happened so fast. Jake was down on one knee, Rooster walked outside and you fainted." She explained.
"Oh my god, I'm going to be sick!" You exclaimed before running into the en suite and throwing up.
You brush your teeth and step back out. "Where is he now? Where's Nick?" You ask them. "Mav and Penny had everyone clean up, and they took Nick with them. But I'm pretty sure Rooster and Jake are still downstairs. " Bob tells you. "They're going to kill each other." You state trying not to cry.
Your hands are shaking, and Bob comes to comfort you. "Why don't we stay here for a few minutes so you can calm down?" He suggests. You nod in agreement, trying to control your breathing.
"Rooster." Jake begins stepping into the living room.
"It's—it's good to see you." He says.
"Save it, Seresin." Rooster spits out. "I don't want your small talk. I want to know what the fuck was going on out there. My wife? You could have anyone in the world, but you go after my WIFE!?" Rooster yells at him
"Bradshaw, in case you didn't know, you've been missing and presumed dead for almost two years. How were we supposed to know you'd just roll back up out of the blue?!" Jake says, trying to stay calm.
"I knew you always had a crush on her, and the minute I'm out of the picture, you swooped in, didn't you?" Rooster turns to face him, slamming his hands down on the kitchen island.
"No. It didn't happen like that. The whole squad has been looking after her and Nick. Me more than anyone because we're neighbors. She became my best friend after you, supposedly passed. She asked me to be Nick's godfather because she said it was what you wanted. I didn't mean for any of this to happen. It just did!" Jake defends himself.
"How long has it been going on? Did you at least wait until I was declared dead?" Rooster prods.
"It's only been about six months, Rooster." After the accident, they searched for you for like six weeks. Which where the hell have you been by the way?" Jake changes the subject.
"I washed up on a beach in Mexico in front of a resort. Didn't know who I was. The only thing I remembered was that my name was Rooster. The owners took me in and gave me a job, and took care of me. A week and a half ago, I was playing football on the beach with some of my coworkers and took a ball to the head. Everything came flooding back. The resort owners helped me get in touch with the Navy and get back home. Does that answer your question?" Rooster sassed back.
"That's crazy man. We're really are all glad you're okay." Jake softens.
"Don't try to be nice to me know." Rooster states before taking another drink.
"Six months? You've been dating my wife for SIX MONTHS and decided to propose to her?" Rooster glares at him.
"Yes, Rooster. What do you want me to say?" Jake sighs.
"Have you slept with her?" Roosters voice drops.
Jake sucks in a deep breath. His eyes dart around the room
"Have you slept with her?" Rooster asks him again, more forcefully this time.
"Yes." Jake admits.
"When? When was the first time?" Rooster grips his glass so hard it could shatter.
"About six months ago. It was the one year anniversary of your death. She was hurting and asked me to come over. We talked, and she was really conflicted about moving on. And I just told her that you would want her to be happy and that if she did start dating, she wasn't doing anything wrong. I told her that she was a great person and that anyone would be lucky to have her. Then she kissed me." Jake confesses.
"She kissed me, and I tried to stop her, but I was weak. After that, it just spiraled from there." Jake tells him.
Rooster stands there silent. "Jake I—" He doesn't know what to say.
"I can't fucking believe you man!" Rooster shouts at him. Tears sting his eyes.
"Well, what do you want from me, man?!" Jake shouts at him.
"I WANT YOU TO APOLOGIZE FOR FUCKING MY WIFE!" Rooster shouts at him.
Any ounce of self-control Jake had left in that moment.
"I'm not going to apologize for something I'm not sorry for Bradshaw. I don't regret it, and if I had to go back and do it all again, I would." Jake says, sticking the metaphorical knife in Roosters chest.
"What Rooster? Scared that she won't choose you now that you're back? Afraid she won't run back into your arms? Are you worried that I fucked her better than you every could?" Jake seethed. He knew it was a low blow, but he didn't care.
"YOU SON OF A BITCH!" Rooster screamed before launching his glass at Hangman's head. Jake ducked just in time for it to fly over him and smash against the wall. He shot Rooster a cocky grin.
Bradley jumped over the kitchen counter, ready to attack.
You, Phoenix, and Bob heard the commotion and ran downstairs. You were horrified at the scene before you. Rooster and Jake were trading blows. Phoenix and Bob tried to pull them apart, but they wouldn't listen.
"Stop it! Both of you STOP!" You shrieked. Both men froze and looked at you.
They broke apart and tried to explain themselves. You looked them both over, bloody and bruised. You weren't sure who to go to first. Everyone's eyes were on you before you finally spoke.
"Jake, I think you should go." You said in a small voice.
"Honey, please—" He tried to reason with you.
"Jake, Rooster is still my husband. You need to leave, please." You choked out.
Jake wanted to argue, but you had been through so much today. He hung his head, grabbed his things, and left. Bob helped you clean the mess they made while Phoenix cleaned up and scolded Rooster.
After they left, Rooster took a shower and got ready for bed. You'd never taken his things and put them away, so he didn't have any trouble finding what he needed. After he was done, you slipped in to clean yourself and calm down. You came into the bedroom wearing your sleep clothes.
Rooster was sitting on the bed. You sat down next to him, and he explained everything that had happened over the past two years to you.
He listened and took it all it. When he was finished, you hugged him. You were stiff in his arms. He kissed you. It felt forgien but you let him. But the moment he tried to touch you, you pulled away. You couldn't do this yet. He'd been gone so long, he was a stranger to you.
You tried to explain your feelings to him, but anger flashed in his eyes as he wordlessly got up and left. You heard the door to the guest room slam. You cried yourself to sleep that night.
Over the next week, you and Rooster tried to fall back into your normal lives. Nick instantly took up with him, knowing exactly who he was.
Jake had been avoiding you, simply texting you to see if you were okay.
Things seemed to be getting better, but you still hadn't slept with Rooster yet. The Saturday after Nick's party, Penny and Mav offered to keep Nick so the two of you could have some alone time.
That's how you found yourself under Rooster in your bed as his hips drove into you. You were sleeping with him partly because you wanted to, and partly because you felt like you had to.
The sex wasn't bad. The two of you had been doing this for five years, Rooster knew your body and what made you tick.
Your fingers dug into his back as you approached your finish.
Waves of pleasure fell over you as your legs shook. It almost felt normal. As you reached your peak, you opened your mouth and screamed, "Oh, Jake, yes!"
Rooster immediately stopped. "What did you just say?" It took your brain a minute to catch up to you.
"Bradley, I, I'm so sorry." You tried to apologize.
He jumped off the bed and screamed in frustration. His eyes landed on the framed wedding photo of the two of you. He grabbed it and launched it across the room.
You yelped and jumped off the bed and quickly pulled your clothes back on.
"Rooster, baby, please." You tried to reason with him. Tears slipped down your cheeks.
He didn't respond to you. Instead, he started throwing everything off the bed like a crazed man.
Soon, he was pulling the mattress off the frame and dragging it down the stairs and tossing it outside.
"Bradley, what are you doing?" You asked, shrinking back into the room.
"I'll be DAMNED if I sleep in the same bed he fuck you in!" He yelled at you.
Before you could do anything else, his strong hands grabbed the bed frame, and he began tearing it apart.
Wood splintered as he cursed Jake and you.
You were terrified. You didn't know the man in front of you. He certainly wasn't the man you married.
You sobbed as you ran out of the room. You went downstairs and grabbed your phone and charger before retreating into the guestroom and locking the door.
You pushed a chair in front of it, too, for extra safety. You sunk down on the bed. You were so thankful Nick wasn't here tonight. You thought about calling Jake, but you were afraid it would make things worse.
After Rooster had finished destroying the bed, he looked around. The room was in chaos, and you were nowhere to be found. He went downstairs and saw your phone was gone, but your keys weren't. He made his way to the guest bedroom. He tried the door. Locked.
"Honey. Honey—I'm sorry." He cried. He stood outside the door, begging you to open it, but you didn't.
Eventually, you fell into a fitful sleep, and Rooster passed out in the hallway in front of the door.
He woke up and rose from the floor. You still had the door locked.
"Baby, I'm sorry, please can we talk? You can't stay in there forever. I know you're hungry." He tried to reason with you.
He was right. You were starving, but you refused to leave.
Rooster understood why you weren't coming out. He headed to the kitchen and grabbed a few snacks and drinks for you and a change of clothes. He put them in a basket and left them outside the door.
"Honey, I'm leaving some things for you out here. I promise I won't try to come in. Just please get them. He said before heading back upstairs to call Maverick. Once the sounds of his steps faded. You quickly opened the door, grabbed the basket, and retreated.
A few hours later, you heard Maverick come, and he and Rooster cleaning, and then you heard them leaving.
Later, you heard them return and the sounds of heavy things being moved upstairs.
What you didn't know is that Maverick made Rooster clean up his mess and then go out to get a new mattress and bed to replace the one he'd destroyed. They'd also picked up a few things for you and some flowers. The whole time, Maverick had been trying to reason with Rooster and explain to him what it had been like for you in his absence.
"I mean Bradley, what do you expect? You've been gone for almost two years and then just show up out of the blue without contacting us first. I mean, we're happy you're alive, but you don't know what it was like. I was there when she grieved you. I held her at your funeral. I made sure she was okay after giving birth to your son. Jake took care of her when I couldn't. He made sure she and your little boy were looked after. You're a stranger to her right now. You can't just expect to pick back up where you left off. You weren't there to talk her off the ledge. He was"
Maverick finished his speech by telling him that Goose and Carole would be disappointed in him.
Roostet took his words to heart. Before he left, Maverick managed to coax you out of hiding.
You went upstairs and saw what they had done. Rooster got on his knees and tearfully begged for your forgiveness.
You both cried and held each other. Rooster swore to you he would never do that again, and he would do whatever it took to be a better man for you.
You cried harder. Finally, the two of you calmed down. After a few minutes of silence, Rooster suggested you two get something to eat. You were about to gladly agree, but suddenly, the idea of eating made you nauseous.
You lept up from your seat and ran to the bathroom. You heaved into the toilet and emptied the contents of your stomach into it.
You took a moment to catch your breath.
You headed to the sink to brush your teeth, but you froze the moment you opened the cabinet door.
There, next to your toothbrush, was an unopened box of tampons.
"Oh shit."

Till Death?
Tumblr media
Summary: You and Rooster promised to love each other until death do you part. You just didn't think it would come so soon.
Pairing: Rooster x Reader, Hangman x Reader
Warnings: Major Character Death, language, loss of a spouse, PTSD, light smut. 18+ Minors DNI
"It wasn't supposed to go like this," you thought as you watched them lower the casket into the ground.
Almost everyone around you was crying, but you weren't. You knew that the casket was just symbolic. It was an empty wooden box being buried in the earth because they'd never found your husband's body, even after almost two months of searching.
You weren't crying because you knew he wasn't dead. That's what you kept telling yourself. It was the last hope you had, and you needed to cling onto it, if not for yourself, for your unborn child.
You were pulled from your thoughts as Jake presented you with the flag from his casket. You tried to put in a brave face as Maverick held onto you. You and everyone around you were hurting.
You didn't miss the flash of guilt in Jake's eyes. He felt the most responsible for this.
Six weeks ago, the Dagger Squad decided to rent a both for the 4th of July. Jake, being the only member of the crew with a boating license, was driving when the storm came out of nowhere.
He tried his best to save it, but the ship wrecked in the rough waters. The last thing you remember is your husband putting a life vest on you before everything went black.
When you came to the hospital four days later, Maverick and Jake were there. The first thing you asked was if your baby was okay. The second was about your husband.
Neither of the men will forget just how heartbreaking it was hearing you wail his name when they told you he was missing.
They were both there the day the police showed up at your door step a month later telling you he had been declared legally deceased.
You wanted to argue with them, to scream, to cry, to be angry. But, you had to keep it together, the child you were carrying, your son need you.
So here you were, standing and staring at the headstone. You let a few tears slip as you traced the inscription:
Bradley Nicholas Bradshaw
1984- 2020
Loving Son, Husband, Father, and Friend
You had made sure that "Father" had been included because even though Rooster might not ever meet his son in this lifetime, in the four months of your pregnancy that he was there for, he made sure that your son knew he was loved.
In the weeks that followed, your parents would drive the forty-five minutes to check up on you almost every day. If they weren't there, one of Rooster's teammates was. All of them decided to make sure you and Baby Bradshaw were taken care of.
Most of the time, it was Jake or Maverick and Penny checking in on you. Maverick was the closest thing Rooster had to family left, and Jake felt like he owed you. He felt like he was the reason you were barely thirty-one years old and already a widow, a pregnant widow at that.
As time went on, the visits from your parents and even Maverick seemed to be less frequent. Once a week, maybe, but not Jake, he was there at least three times a week.
You tried to tell him it wasn't his fault, but you knew you'd never be able to convince him other wise.
Then, the day you were dreading came, the birth of your son should have been a joyous one, your family was there, your parents holding your hands through it all.
When the nurse laid Bradley Nicholas Bradshaw Jr. on your chest for the first time, you sobbed, a mix of happy and sad tears. You thanked God for your son but cursed him for taking your husband.
You decided to call him Nick. Maybe one day you could call him Bradley, but not right now. After his birth, you asked Jake to be his godfather. You told him that you and Rooster had talked about it when you first found out that you were expecting. Jake cried like a baby when you asked him, but happily accepted.
Three weeks later, Jake found a house for sale a block away from you and bought it. He claimed it was because he had been looking for his own place for a while, but you knew it was because he wanted to keep an eye on you.
Everyone helped you with Baby Nick. They took turns babysitting him if you needed a break. They also made sure you didn't show any signs of postpartum depression, especially after everything you had been through.
You fell in a routine after Nick's birth. Everyone supported you, but Jake seemed to be the most present. The two of you frequently ate dinner together, and there had been several times he'd fallen asleep on your couch instead of making the short walk back to his home.
Everything was going well until Nick was about six months old. You knew waking up today was going to be hard. Today was the one year anniversary of Rooster's "death," and when you rose this morning, it crossed your mind. For the first time, you cared to admit, you accepted that he was gone.
You quickly got yourself and Nick ready to head to the cemetery. You texted the squad to let them know what you were doing and to tell them you wanted to go alone. You knew all of them took the day off today, just in case.
You and Nick spent hours at Bradley's grave talking to him and visiting with him. You laughed and cried as you filled him in on everything he'd missed. Towards the end of your visit, you pulled up one of the stories Rooster had recorded on your iPad when he found out you were pregnant. He filmed them just in case he was deployed during the first year of Nick's life.
You thought he was ridiculous for doing so, but now you were grateful for them. You were thankful Nick would have them to know his father's voice and laugh.
The two of you sat in the grass listening to Rooster read a book about planes when he said it: "DaDa"
Your head snapped down at your son. You thought you were hearing things. But as if on cue, Nick reached out one of his chubby baby hands towards the screen and said it again while looking at Rooster. "DaDa," he cooed.
Your chest felt tight. Sobs threatened to bubble up out of you. You quickly scooped up Nick and your things and bolted to your car. Before driving home, you sent a text to Jake asking him to meet you at your house in fifteen.
Jake met you in your driveway. The second your car was in park, the tears came pouring out. He quickly grabbed Nick out of his car seat and helped you inside. He left you in the living room as he put Nick down for a nap in the nursery.
When he came back out to check on you, you were a whimpering mess.
He pulled you close to him, rocking you and whispering soothing words. "What happened, honey?" He asked you.
"Nick said his first word today. We were there in the cemetery, watching a video that Rooster had recorded, and Nick grabbed the screen and said,'DaDa'. He knew who he was." You sobbed out.
Jake wasn't sure what to say. He just held you until you stopped crying.
That evening, he ordered takeout for the two of you and made sure Nick was fed and changed and ready for bed. Once he put him down, you knew he'd be out for the rest of the night. Nick was a great sleeper.
When he came back into the living room, Jake noticed you had showered and changed onto some sleep clothes.
"Do you want to me leave?" He asked hesitantly.
"Can you stay, maybe just a little while longer?" You asked him.
"Of course." He said, coming to sit by you on the couch. You leaned against him as he slipped his arm around you.
"I'm sorry." You told him. "Sorry for what?" He asked you. "I'm sorry that I lost it today. I'm sure you had better thing to do than take care of me." You tell him.
"Honey, I took the day off just on case you and Nick needed me. You have nothing to be sorry for." Jake assured you.
"Some days are better than others, you know?" You say to him. He nods his head in agreement.
"Like some days, I swear I see him in the grocery store, or I smell his aftershave, or I hear him at the Hard Deck." You explain, sitting up to face Jake.
"And then some days, I lay down at night and realize I haven't thought about him all day. Some days, I think that I'm ready to move on and put myself back out there. I know I wouldn't be doing anything wrong if I did go on a date. I mean, I promised Rooster till death, I just never expected it to be so soon. And on days like that, I feel—I feel guilty. Like I've betrayed him." You finish telling him.
"You can't do that. You can't beat yourself up. Rooster wouldn't want you to wither away in this house. He'd want you to be happy." Jake says, taking your hands in his.
You don't know why, but your heart quickens in your chest.
"I know he would want me to be happy, but what if I can't love anyone again? What if no one ever loves me again? I mean, I'm a thirty-two year old widow with a baby. Who's going to want that?" You tell him.
"Sweetheart, don't be so hard on yourself." Jake says, cupping your face and wiping away a stray tear.
"Any guy would be lucky to date you. You're smart, hard working, beautiful, an amazing mother, and one of the strongest people I know." He tells you earnestly.
You meet his eyes and feel the emerald orbs looking deep into your soul. You can tell he is being truthful, his words sparking joy in your heart, but there's something else there, just behind his smile.
You aren't sure what possessed you to do it, but before either of you can process it, you're in Jake's lap, connecting your lips with his.
His arms wrap around you, one hand splayed across your lower back, the other griping at the base of your neck as you kiss him with fervor.
It's a hot, passionate mix of teeth and tongue.
You can feel him growing harder through the fabric of your sleep shorts and his pants as you grind down on him.
You reach for the hem of his shirt, and that's when his brain finally catches up with him and he pulls away.
"Honey—Honey stop." Jake says pushing you back slightly.
"What's wrong? You ask him, slightly out of breath.
"Honey, I don't want to take advantage of you while you're like this." He tells you, tucking a stray piece of hair being your ear.
"You aren't taking advantage of me." You tell him.
"Jake, please, I want this. I need you." You breathe out.
Before he can think about it too long, Jake's lips are back on yours, and he is picking you up to carry you to your bedroom.
You gasp as he lifts you, giving him a chance to slot his tongue in your mouth.
You're both nearly naked by the time you lays you on your bed. He takes his time with you. Bring you over the edge twice with his mouth and fingers before he even thinks about entering you.
"Honey, I don't have any protection." He says when you try to pull him on top of you.
"I'm on birth control. I have been since Nick was born." You tell him.
He looks back at you, laying on the bed, hair fanned out, body flush. You looked amazing.
Jake's mind was racing. Was he really about to sleep with his dead best friend's wife in the bed Rooster once slept in?
In the back of his mind, the angel on his shoulder told him it was wrong, but the sounds you made when he kissed you and touched you made it feel so right.
Before he could talk himself out of it, Jake slid into you slowly. He cared for you as he passionately made love to you.
He knew that tomorrow you would come to your senses and this would never happen again, so tonight he planned to enjoy every moment of it.
You came with a breathy gasp of his name, something he's sure would haunt his deepest fantasies for years to come.
After he helped clean the two of you up and began to gather his clothes. But you stopped him. "Stay." You muttered, and how could he not.
The next morning, he woke up in a panic, but you soothed him, stating that you didn't regret anything and he didn't either.
He searched your eyes for any indication that you didn't want this, didn't want him.
If he had any sense, he would have run out of there. But the way you were looking at him, he couldn't deny his attraction to you. If he had been stronger, he would have said how wrong this was, but Jake Seresin was a weak man.
He couldn't believe that he was considered dating his wingman's widow. He shouldn't have given in. Temptation always had consequences, but if it meant he could be with you, he was prepared for them, whatever they may be.
Then came the talks of where to go from here. You agreed that whatever you were should say between the two of you for now.
But after two months of being together, you finally told everyone. They were instantly supportive of your blossoming relationship, claiming Rooster would want you to be happy.
Things seemed to finally be looking up for you after so much darkness.
Soon, it was Nick's first birthday. Everyone was there to celebrate him, the house decked out in "TOP ONE" decorations.
You brought the airplane cake you had specially made out for him. Lighting the candle, everyone began to sing before you helped little Nick blow it out and make a wish.
Penny was taking pictures, and you were too distracted to notice that Jake had gotten down on one knee until he tapped your back.
Everyone gasped and smiled, waiting for your answer, but before you could say anything, you were interrupted by the voice of a ghost.
"Hangman, what the fuck is going on here?"

Playing Pool
Please be nice this is my first story on here…tips and ideas are appreciated!
Warnings: angst, jealousy, and swear words
Summary: When your Naval aviator boyfriend leaves you hanging, you decide to make a surprise visit. After catching him with another woman he decides to take his anger out on you. Can he make up for the damages he caused?
Authors note: I have a part 2 in the works if that’s something you’re interested in!!
*UNEDITED WITH GRAMMATICAL ERRORS*
It had been such a long day and you were than excited to be heading home from work. As you drove all you could think about was coming home to your super hot boyfriend, that just so happened to be a Navy pilot, ordering pizza, and watching a movie.
You pulled into the driveway and immediately noticed that your boyfriends car wasn’t home, which was odd because he was normally home early on Fridays. You unlocked the door and walked into your shared home to be greeted by no one but the darkness.
“Hmm” you thought, “it’s not like Jake to leave without letting me know what’s going, maybe I should give him a call.”
As you made your way through the house you began to call your boyfriend.
Ring..Ring..Ring
“Hey hot stuff” your boyfriend answered, his words kind of slurred.
“Mr.Seresin, where did you run off to? You never leave without telling me.” As you spike you noticed how much commotion was going on in the background.
“Sorry babe, the boys dragged me down to the Hard Deck for some pool and Coyote may have poured one too many shots down my throat.” he said while laughing.
“Okay, well it would have been nice to got a text or something, that way I could have atle…” you were got off by the sound of someone unfamiliar.
“Jakey…get off the phone and come teach me how to play pool.” the woman said in a seductive tone.
“Alright one second little lady,” he replied to her, “Uhm babe, I’ve gotta go, the boys are wanting to start another round. I’ll call you when..”
Beep Beep Beep
You hung up the phone on him before he could finish his sentence. You didn’t want to hear another word out of that man’s mouth. The fact that he tried to blame it on the boys, when you know for a fact it was another woman. You knew it wasn’t Phoenix, you knew her voice too well, and she wouldn’t be caught dead talking to Jake like that.
You did the only logical thing you knew to do, you threw on the prettiest dress you had, curled you hair, and made your way down to the Hard Deck. No one was going to get away with talking to your man like that, and he was for sure not getting away with his actions.
As you walked in to the Hard Deck you immediately spotted your boyfriends blonde hair that towered over the rest the rest of the people in there. Your eyes were immediately focused on the girl he was standing behind with his arms wrapped around her waist. He didn’t seem to notice when you walked in, but the rest of his squad did.
“Uhm..Hangman…looks like you got a surprise visitor.” said Rooster, your boyfriends frenemy.
“What do you mean surprise visitor,” he said as he turned around “oh shit.”
He immediately let go of the woman and started making his way towards you, but you didn’t feel hearing any of the excuses that was about to leave his mouth.
The only words you said before turning and leaving before he could catch you were “have fun Jakey.”
You made it home in record time, knowing that Jake was probably right on your tail, and you really didn’t feel like crying right now. You marched up to your room and changed into sweats and a t-shirt to wind down for the night. The only thing you could think of was Jake and the woman, the woman that he was literally holding. The woman that probably ended your relationship.
About the time you got your hair into a messy bun you heard the front door open, “babe where are you?”
You panicked and went and sat in the bathtub so he couldn’t find you. As soon as the door came open all you could smell was alcohol, and you knew this was going to be a bad night.
He pulled back the shower curtain and started shaking his head, almost like you were the one that did something wrong.
“What the fuck was that?” He asked.
“What are you talking about?”
“I’m talking about the way you showed up to Hard Deck uninvited, the caused a scene in front of my squad. What were you thinking?” he asked with his facing turning more red with every word he spoke.
“What was I thinking? I was thinking that I heard a woman coming to ask you to teach her to play pool and you lied to me about. “The boys want to start a game” yeah bullshit Jake. And since when did I have to have an invite to anywhere you were?”
“Oh my got y/n, nothing happened, it was just some pretty girl that was.. I mean it was just a girl that wanted to play pool.” he back tracked.
“Oh, so you thought she was pretty? Well maybe that pretty girl wouldn’t mind you coming to crash at her place tonight so you can leave me the fuck alone.”
“I didn’t mean to say she was pretty, I don’t look at other woman like that.”
“I should have known you’d eventually get bored and go back to your own ways, hanging me out to dry. Really living up to that call sign huh.”
That was it, you crossed a line and you knew it, but it was true. He immediately balled up his fist like he was going to hit you.
“What are you gonna do, you gonna hit me? You gonna hit your girlfriend?”
As soon as those words left your mouth he punched the wall right beside your head, making a huge whole in the wall.”
You dropped to your knees, “ WHAT THE FUCK JACOB”
He immediately knew what he did was wrong and dropped to his knees in front of you. “Y/n I am so sorry, I’ve just had to much drink and I don’t know what came over me. Please stop crying, you know I would never hurt you in my life, look at me babe, please I am so sorry.”
He took your face in his hands as he said those words and you flinched. He knew he had gone to far.
“Don’t touch me” was the only thing you could muster up before going to lay on the bed.
Jake followed you to bed but waited a minute before approaching you. Once he heard your sobs die down he layed beside you and wrapped his around you.
“I promise I will never do anything like that again. I do not want any other woman but you, and I will spend the rest of my life proving it to you. I went to far and should not have punched the wall but my emotions clouded my judgment, and if I could take it back I would” he said, almost all in one breath.
You listend to everything he had to say, but you were still terrified. You had never seen him get that angry, especially with you. It made you wonder what he was capable of.
“Sweets?” he said, seeing if you were acknowledging him at all.
You elected to act like you were asleep so you didn’t have to continue this conversation. This was something that needed to be addressed while he was sober.
As you both laid there in uncomfortable silence, you heard his phone go off. He thought your were asleep, so he went ahead and grabbed it to see who it was. You barely opened your eyes so that he wouldn’t know you were peeking. What you seen on his phone made your heart drop.
Unsaved number: Thanks for that kiss tonight, hoping I could get another soon ;)

hi, lovely! i was wondering if you could write shy!reader x Xavier, and maybe one day he promises to help reader with something, but he forgets and reader see's him with Wednesday and she gets super upset and he finds her later and feels so bad and he apologizes and its fluffy ? <3
Hi love! I love this thank you! I wasn't able to do fluffy tonight and i love leaving you guys on angst cliffhangers. Should I write a part 2?
Requests are still open!
Tumblr media
You and Xavier had made plans to meet in the library after dinner on Friday then take a little walk through the forest and spend some time together in his art shed. It wasn't anything special, just the two of you hanging out. Xavier was one of three real friends that you had, and recently you had both been making more efforts to spend time together. It made your heart flutter thinking about how he wanted to spend time with you. To be completely honest, you had been crushing on him long before you even spoke to him. But eventually, Enid had gotten sick of your daydreaming about him and had pushed you into becoming friends. Now you were thick as thieves, and plans like the ones you had for Friday were not uncommon.
You were glad for the plans being made in advance because Xavier had been distant lately. Ever since Wednesday Addams had arrived at the school. First he was just quiet, more so than usual. He wasn't making the same efforts to talk to you, but you thought he was just tired. But then he started hanging out with her more. You weren't jealous, but your anxiety and past traumas that had contributed to your shyness also caused you to worry about this. What if he was sick of you? What if he was finally tired of how quiet and dependent you were and wanted somebody better? Someone more like Wednesday....
So you were glad to get to spend time with him. When Friday rolled around, you spent almost all afternoon after classes getting ready. Your roommate, Isabella, spent the entire time teasing you.
"Gosh y/n, are you two hanging out, or are you guys banging?" She laughed at you. "I'm kidding, but really, you look gorgeous."
You just smiled and continued your routine. You had your hair and makeup done, and your outfit was perfect. You were practically vibrating with excitement. By the time dinner rolled around you were too nervous to eat, so you opted to stay in your room and calm yourself down. Looking back at it now, you wondered if things had been different if you had went down to eat with your friends.
You waited a few minutes after dinner was over to head down to the library, you didn't want to seem too eager. Dinner ended at 6:45, so you arrived at the library at 7. Xavier wasn't there yet, but you figured he was just up in his room changing his clothes from the day. So you walked around, browsing the books and finding a couple you wanted to read. By the time you had checked them out and sat at one of the tables, you checked your phone and saw it was 7:20. Okay, so Xavier was a little late. Maybe you'd send him a quick text to make sure he was alright.
To: Xavier <3
Hey, you alr? We still on for tonight?
You waited a few minutes before you checked for his response. But to your dismay, nothing. You were ignoring your anxiety before, but now you couldn't. Your heart clenched and your head filled with anxious thoughts. Twisting your hands and biting your lips, you didn't notice how much time had passed until you checked your phone again. 7:40. Oh.
You didn't know what to do. Did you wait? what if something was wrong? You tried calling Xavier again. Nothing. Another text.
To: Xavier <3
You ok? it's getting late? want me to come to your dorm?
You waited again. At 7:50 you checked for an answer, but nothing. Tears pricked at your eyes, but you quickly blinked them back. There was no reason to cry. Surely Xavier had some kind of explanation.
So you gathered your things and headed towards the boys dorms. As you walked towards your destination, you tried to come up with ideas of what could have happened. Maybe he got caught up with homework or he accidentally fell asleep? Although it would sting a little bit if he did, you would understand. Maybe Ajax really needed him, or his father was being a dick again? You continued to list options until you heard voices up ahead of you. You stopped, not wanting to intrude on anyone's conversation and tried to hear who was talking. You just wanted to see if you were okay to keep going. But you wished you hadn't. You wished you had gone back to your dorm and pretended you just never had plans. But you hadn't done that. So here you were, and you heard Wednesday and Xavier. Together.
"Well, tonight was... fun," you heard a voice, undeniably Xavier's voice, say.
"Yes. Thank you for your acquaintance."
And that was Wednesday. Your heart clenched. You were shaking, when did you start shaking? Your vision was blurry and you felt the tears on your cheeks, but you couldn't find it in yourself to move. You were anchored to the floor.
"I'm tired so I'm gonna..."
"Right. Goodnight, Xavier. I will see you tomorrow."
"Goodnight Wednesday. See you later."
You could hear the smile in Xavier's voice, and though you didn't think it could happen, your heart clenched more. But then you heard footsteps, Wednesday's, coming towards you and you knew you had to go. So you bolted.
You don't remember getting back to your dorm, but it was empty when you arrived. Isabella was probably smoking with Ajax and Enid so you let yourself break down. You held yourself and fell to your knees, sobs wracking your body. You had trusted Xavier with your heart, even if it was unbeknownst to him, and he had crushed it in a matter of an hour. You couldn't believe yourself. You felt pathetic and wanted to rip your heart out of your chest. It hurt so fucking bad. You were so fucking sad. But you were also angry, you realized. You were so, so angry. Quickly, you did the first thing that came to mind. You ripped your phone out of your pocket and clicked on Xavier's contact. You didn't care to check if he had ever answered, you just clicked on the picture of you two that was his profile picture. The tears fell harder when you saw it, so you quickly did what your emotional mind thought was best.
Blocked. And contact deleted.
Then you dragged yourself to your feet, mind set on forgetting this. Forgetting Xavier fucking Thorpe.
A/N: So um... part 2? 😁
