Flying Eren

Titan Eren grows a pair of wings and learns to shoot crystal shards out of his mouth. Levi now rides on Eren’s back when the scouting legion goes on expeditions, much to the joy of Ereri shippers.

Isayama Hajime has got to be a Game of Thrones fan, yes? (Attack on White Walkers?) Even though Game of Thrones isn’t really big in Japan and not at all mainstream. I guess Isayama sensei is kind of a hipster?

Training Arc

Shingeki no Kyojin has finally leaped into a training arc, an indispensable tradition of any Shounen manga. 

As part of a training regimen for Eren, the scouting legion has sent him outside the wall alone. Outside the wall Eren meets a female titan shifter who turns out to be Mikasa's distant Asian relative who has been living outside the walls as a vagrant for unknown reasons. Eren begins a brutal training regimen based on Nichiren Buddhism under her tutelage. Suffering through this intense strain on both his mind and body, Eren experiences a moment of enlightenment and sense of oneness with the world that becomes the key to awakening his coordinate powers.

He then returns to the wall with a Zen outlook of reality, speaking mainly in koans, much to the confusion of his friends (except Sasha) and the annoyance of captain Levi. Sasha is delighted by Eren’s newfound asceticism and digs into his share of dinner.

Winged Titans Detected

Despite their size, titans have surprisingly low body weight. The scouting legion has detected a number of aberrant titans outside the wall with wing like formations on their back and appeared to be able to stay airborne for almost an hour before they get tired.
