the weirdly vengeful and petty tones aborted babies take in pro-life propaganda images are so funny like this passive aggressive "was it worth it mommy?" and "it's a shame you can't join me in heaven mommy 😔" like do you ever wonder if you were aborted for a reason you little bitch ass baby

Watch a movie called "Awakenings" (1990) last night and it was amazing. (Highly recommend but it will make you cry or angry, it had that effect on me.)
Tumblr media
I will say I really related to it as a schizophrenic who might also have some mental disabilities and neurological problems and just generally trapped in a place of abuse and have suffered from and witnessed medical abuse and racism.
I never suffered the same thing as the people who were the main focus in the film but I do understand the feeling of being trapped in a body that I can't control and it feels like time passes in a way that I can't comprehend because I'm stuck mentally.
Seeing them be free in their own bodies again was emotional but it was disgusting seeing how staff treated their patients, it was actually rage inducing. And after understanding it'll be a short time before they lose control they still stripped them of humanity. One day isn't enough after YEARS of captivity in your own fucking body.
Also seeing someone try so hard for them, not just to "cure" them but understanding them and being patient with them even when they were "statues"... It made me cry. I couldn't help but feel a bit jealous. Seeing this said person cry over the fact that they couldn't stay as they were brought back was heart-wrenching.

I'll also say the black characters in the movie made me smile, even though they were side characters they were so empathetic, silly and passionate. I rarely see that so casually presented as it was here, especially with themes like this.

Watching with my mom who's a nurse who was disagreeing with everything I said also had given me a wake up call about the type of person my mother also is. She does all of the things they did to patients to me in the home I'm supposed to feel safe in and probably would do the same to any patients. She even laughed at the clear signs of mental health problems that patients represented in the movie.
Never felt so glad to be someone who's grown away from what was taught to me.

Also.
Homestuck fan in the wild literally recognized the characters immediately with no tags, no colors.
So I'm literally just like.
"Yeah that was all literally racism."

Making a character inspired off Joseph Merrick for a book I'm doing for my art finals so I'm practicing.
It's a lot easier to translate their facial features and adding different emotions to them than I thought it'd be bc Ive never drawn facial structures that aren't considered the norm so I'm quite happy.
Tumblr media
The story that the character I'm trying to design is about people who were within a circus freak show.
I'm making a few books calling out the abuses of the circus and their exploitation of minority groups.
---
Tw. Mentioned racism for Charlie bc of his stage name.
Isabelle is inspired off a painting of a bearded woman (whom was in the circus) and breast feeding her baby with her husband in the background. (A woman with PCOS)
Angus is generally inspired off the many real life stories of people with hypertrichosis and having to go into performance to make a living.
Charlie is specifically based off the real story of George and Willie Muse.
The last one (Im still figuring out her name) is generally inspired off the experience of dwarfism and the infantalization of people with it, especially women. Using Jyoti Amge as a main inspiration for her experiences.

---
Some more character designs I did for the other books I'm making for my finals.
