I never thought I'd be someone who cant shut up about fish, but here I am and here we are. On my blog you can find pictures and updates of my aquariums and all the creatures in em!!!
Looking a bit better a few days after big maintenance. The new plants are settling well it looks like, the stem plants are growing well. Can't wait to be back home after work and stare at my aquarium some more. I didn't get to do the last adaptions I made for shrimps yet, I got sick last weekend, so that's still on my to-do-list. Not sure yet if I'm going for Amano shrimp or neocaridina. I've had neocaridina before but without much luck. They're my favourite, though! So cute.
The water is a bit unclear cuz maintenance. Gotten rid of the Vallisneria because it was growing throughout the whole tank and taking up a lot of space. I like the textures of the other plants better. Got some new stemplants instead, hope they don't melt! The old sponge filter didn't work properly anymore so that's been replaced. A few more things to do this weekend. Want to still put mesh over the filter.

Someone else's cat left a dead dove in front of our front door this morning. My partner saw him do it! Looked him right in the eyes while dropping it. Really did not want to be disposing of dead bird first thing.
I miss shrimps. I've been wanting to get shrimps again for a while, but I took in some fish from a buddy and postponed. However, I might start preparing for shrimps again. The anubias in my tank are growing very fast lately, it created many hiding spots. The filter I'm going to cover with fine mesh to protect baby shrimpies and I have a small sponge filter just because they like them. There's also terracotta hides. Shrimbs. Maybe...
Hey just a quick PSA about a newish website that is pumping out a ton of care guides that are AI generated in full of terrible misinformation and sometimes straight up comical errors. I chose the "Baby Whale" fish care guide as a prime example where the AI could not tell the difference between the common name of the fish and an actual baby whale.
Some closeups of the two lovebirds. (Polypterus delhezi)
Don't worry about the twitching, it's bichir breeding behavior. Though I find it interesting that the female is twitching here, normally it's the male. (Their names are Seph and Brunhilde btw)
They probably laid eggs a few times before, I see the breeding behavior after nearly every big waterchange, but nothing ever came of it. The other fish probably eat them right away. And the one time that I saw some eggs I didn't want to disturb them while laying. Sadly couldn't find any afterwards.
