i think theres two types of sex in fic, both of which can be good and serve different purposes: fics where the aim is to fufil the authors/readers' specific kinks and fantasies as much as possible, and fics where the aim is to try to be as realistic and in-character as possible, including the sex scenes. so im talking specifically about that second type of fic when i say that, as someone who has now read an academically significant quantity of buddie fic, i think it's really fucking hard to thread the needle of doing a d/s buddie dynamic where both of them actually stay recognizable as their character and neither of them just become like Generic Hornyfantasy Sub and Generic Hornyfantasy Dom.

what are MY headcanons for their sex life thank you so much for asking. i don't think either of them fufil some rigid role all of the time and i don't think either of them become wildly different people during sex. i do think buck is fairly kinky and gets off on being a little bratty and getting pushed around a little and being called a good boy and loves being made to use his willpower to hold off. and i think eddie's very happy to give buck all of that. but i think eddie himself is not particularly kinky, and when it's up to him they probably have like fun athletic sweaty playful but overall comparatively vanilla sex. and i think sometimes - like in their relationship - eddie is also able to let buck take care of him, and buck probably loves getting to just worship him and be of service, not in a particularly kinky way but in a buck kisses him all over his body and gets him totally relaxed and makes him come three times while not even noticing he hasn't come once yet because he's so zoned in on making eddie feel good and loved and taken care of kind of way. and eddie probably also likes sometimes being a little bratty and pouty and playful and feels safe and comfortable enough with buck to do it. Rewatching season 2 is like, Buck is being standoffish with Eddie in the first episode and by the end of it making declarations of loyalty and then the rest of the season they're glued to each other's sides and he's yapping up a storm and Eddie is gazing at him softly, like as soon as Buck determined Eddie was 'safe' he enfolded him into his life immediately and Eddie sunk into that affection and care and partnership like an exhausted man falls into bed, with gusto and relief
