not to sound like a snob but bad writing genuinely irks me. i think everyone should be able to express themselves through writing. it’s wonderful that writing can be an outlet for so many people, and i want the bad writers to continue doing whatever they want. that being said, i ain’t reading it! if you consider yourself a bad writer im curious what that feels like. not to sound like i think im so great, but my stuff is readable. like tumblr stuff is usually good, but man. wattpad. why are you old enough for wattpad but still writing like you are five

super smash bros
is aged them up just a teeny bit so tyler can drive
Tyler was ready for the school day to be over. It had dragged on long enough, and sitting in eighth period, he was bored out of his mind.
His phone buzzed
Finally something interesting,
a text from Aiden appeared on the screen.
“hey man can you give me a ride home”
Okay, not as exciting as he had hoped, but at least he’d get to spend some time with his friend after school.
“yeah sure, what’s the occasion?” Tyler knows that Aiden and Ben usually walk home, even on days like today, when Ben stays after school for his session with the guidance counselor. Usually Aiden would just venture the almost a mile walk home easy breezy, so something was off about this.
“nothing just don’t feel like walking home today”
Aiden replied, no punctuation as usual.
“alright. are you feeling okay?”
“i’m fine.”
“okay, meet me by the side door and we can walk out to my car together.”
“👍”
And with that, it was back to the boringness of eighth period.
-
Taylor waited for Aiden by the door they planned to meet at, scrolling on instagram.
As Aiden approached, he noticed something was off. Aiden’s skin was pale and clammy, and his smile seemed dull today.
“Hey Ty, no Taylor today?”
“Nope, she’s got robotics. You sure you’re okay? You don’t look so good, and I’m not just trying to call you ugly.”
“Let’s just get home.”Aiden mumbles through clenched teeth.
When Tyler unlocks the door, Aiden hops into the passenger seat, relaxing into the cushion. Tyler starts the car, turning the vents toward Aiden, who had been fanning himself on the way over.
Before pushing the gas, Tyler reached a hand to Aiden’s forehead.
“Fuck dude, I think you’re sick, you’re literally so hot.”
“You think I’m hot? Thanks man.” Aiden mumbled sarcastically, as if he didn’t already realize he was sick.
“So that’s why you wanted a ride?”
Aiden nodded, closing his eyes and listening to the peaceful hum of the a/c, trying to drown out the pounding of his head and rising nausea
Tyler pulled out of his parking spot, typing Aiden’s address into the gps. He was glad he didn’t have baseball today, it would’ve been bad to make the poor fevered boy next to him walk home.
They got about three minutes down the road, before Tyler watched Aiden’s face somehow lose even more of its color.
“Aiden are y-“
Aiden cut him off. “Pull over.”
“This is kinda a bad spot for that, assuming your about to puke, there’s a plastic bag with some of Taylor’s random shit in it, just dump that stuff on the ground and use that.”
Aiden didn’t need to be told twice, quickly doing as he’s told and snatching the bag off the ground, with little care for whatever is inside.
Tyler focused on the road, trying to ignore the sounds of Aiden’s vomit splashing into the bag. Tyler is what some might call, emetophobic. He doesn’t have it bad, but hearing Aiden puking up his guts next to him is making his breaths quick and his hands shake on the steering wheel.
The heaves started to get smaller, although still as gross if not grosser, especially when one wave brought with it a harsh wet cough or burp. But by the time they arrived at Aiden’s, he had finished vomiting, taking shallow breaths and holding the almost full warm bag of puke in his hands. When Tyler pulled up, Aiden was quick to exit the vehicle and rush to the front door, fumbling for his house key. He was ready to dispose of the bag of vomit in his hand. Tyler followed close behind.
“Aren’t you going home?” Aiden asked, unlocking the door.
“Of course not. I can’t just leave you here sick like this.”
“But clearly you don’t handle throwing up very well, and something tells me I’m going to be doing more of that today.”
“Doesn’t matter. It’s what friends do, right?”
“Whatever you say. Don’t feel like you have to stay if me being sick like this freaks you out too much or whatever.”
“It’s okay. Now let’s get you to bed.”
They climbed up the steps, Aiden holding onto Tyler for some support, his legs felt weaker than ever.
Once Tyler was sure Aiden had everything he needed, he stepped out of the room to call Ashlyn.
It rang twice before she answered.
“Hey Tyler, what’s up?”
“Hey Ash, would you mind coming over to Aiden’s? He’s sick and you’re the only other person who’s not busy right now, I don’t think I can handle him by myself.”
“Is he that much of a handful?”
“Not really, I’m just kinda afraid of vomit. Think you can help?”
“Yeah sure. But just fyi, I have no idea how to take care of someone sick.”
“Just leave the rest to me.”
-
Ten minutes later, the doorbell rings. Ashlyn waits at the door, let in by Tyler and led up to Aiden’s bedroom. The room has a couch, where the two waited for Aiden to wake up. Tyler has had plenty of experience taking care of sick people. He always takes care of Taylor and his mom when they get sick, especially after his dad’s passing. Tyler has already taken Aisen’s temperature (101, which he should keep checking in case it goes up and he needs to take him to the hospital.), one of the first steps when someone gets sick. Now, he just needs to make sure Aiden is hydrated, taking the proper medications, and eaten when he is ready.
Speaking of which, he should probably get to work making Aiden something to eat. He searched the kitchen for ingredients, finding just enough ingredients for a couple servings of noodle soup. He’s not a great cook, but he can easily follow a recipe on his phone.
Ashlyn sat around, feeling useless. That is, until the sound of frantic footsteps above her, telling her Aiden is awake.
“I’ll go check on him” She told Tyler, who was busy with the soup.
She speed walked up the stairs, unsurprised to find that Aiden was getting sick again. Tyler had left a bucket for him on the nightstand, but Aiden seemingly had tried to make it to the bathroom, but obviously didn’t get there on time. Aiden’s shirt had vomit down the front, and a puddle was forming on the floor. Ashlyn grabbed the bucket and handed it to Aiden, leading him to sit down in his desk chair. Aiden tried to speak between mostly dry heaves now.
“Ash? When- when did you-“ he was cut off by his own gags.
“Shh. Just get it up. Tyler called me since he’s not good around vomit.”
Aiden nodded in understanding through the dry heaves.
“Aiden I don’t think you have anything left to bring up. Drink some water, I’ll clean this up.”
Aiden wanted to argue against her cleaning up his mess. But he knew he couldn’t do it himself, not without getting sick again. So he trudged back to his bed and let Ashlyn handle it.
Ashlyn cleaned up the mess, which was really gross, but had to be done. It took about ten minutes, in which Aiden had still not fallen back to sleep.
“I can’t sleeeep.” he groaned.
“You have been sleeping for a while already. Maybe come downstairs with me? Tyler is making soup, it should be ready soon.”
Aiden grabbed his blanket off of his bed, wrapping himself up like a cloak over his head, making Ashlyn giggle.
They carefully went down the stairs. Greeting Tyler in the kitchen.
“Hey germy, you sleep well?” Tyler said, barely looking up from his pot.
“More or less.” he responded, his voice groggy
“Well, your soup will be ready soon. You like chicken noodle?”
“Definitely. I’m starving.”
“That’s good to hear. It’ll be done in around fifteen minutes. Go get comfortable on the couch and wait.”
Aiden didn’t need to be told twice to sit down, his limbs feeling like mush.
“Oh and Ashlyn? Take his temperature.” Tyler called from the kitchen.
Ashlyn grabbed the thermometer, feeling the heat radiating off of the boy before the thermometer told her anything.
“It’s about the same.” she said after it beeped.
Aiden nodded, feeling bored out of his mind.
Ashlyn must have sensed this, because she suggested they play a video game, sitting down next to Aiden, who agreed.
They open Super Smash Bros, and picked out their characters Ashlyn as Yoshi and Aiden as Bowser.
As soon as the round started, they focused in on smashing the buttons, attacking each other. Aiden seemed to know all of the combos and tricks, while Ashlyn was mindlessly smashing buttons, yet still winning.
Aiden however, did some kind of super move, making a comeback and winning just before the round ended.
“Haha! In your facceeee! Even when I’m sick I still dominate smash bros!”
“Yeah yeah whatever. Round 2?”
They continued to play like this, Aiden winning continuously until his food was ready. Tyler unfolded a couple tv trays, and they all sat on the couch eating their soup. Tyler put on Aiden’s favorite spider-man movie. (The first Andrew Garfield one) And they peacefully watched the movie and slurped their soup. Once he finished his soup, Aiden scooted towards Ashlyn, resting his head on her shoulder, and falling back asleep.

blanket forts
Aiden was trying to fall asleep. But he couldn’t. He had just returned from the shadow realm for the night. Well not “just”. He had returned almost two hours ago, after seven hours in the other dimension. Ideally, he would come back from the shadow dimension and wake up to the beep of his alarm in the morning, sleeping through the night. However, this night, he woke up almost immediately after returning to his normal body. the whole two bodies thing was still confusing to aiden. He never really understood it, especially since he was not paying attention at all when it was being explained to him by Logan. He tried so hard to go back to sleep, but he was having a hard time. He was flooded with stress from the other dimension. They had to find a way out of this mess. And yet, they hadn’t.
He lay awake for ten more minutes, before texting their group chat.
“anyone up?”
-
“anyone up?” Logan read, the glow of the screen hurting his eyes in the dark.
“I am.” He texted back. Logan too could not sleep. even with how much he tried, it wasn’t working.
“come over” Aiden said. No question, just a statement, a demand maybe.  Logan thought about it. He was wearing a sleep shirt and comfy shorts, but he could go out in it. His parents had left him home alone, while they visited his grandparents in canada. Logan wished he could’ve gone, but he worried about leaving with the whole shadow dimension and phantom thing. So, he convinced his parents to let him stay, saying how he had tests at school and needed to study and he was old enough and blah blah blah, which his parents eventually gave in to and let him stay at home alone. He didn’t think it would be so bad, but he’s lonely. Aiden is home alone a lot as well, his parents always traveling. Aiden isn’t lonely anymore now that he has Ben, but Ben goes to bed really early every night, waking up early to make breakfast and go for a run. Atleast, that’s what Aiden thought he did, since he preferred to go to bed late and sleep in. So in the night, that familiar feeling of loneliness floods back.
-
Logan arrived at Aiden’s house, with only his phone in hand. Aiden answered the door, letting him into his nice house and leading him to the couch. They shared a look, acknowledging that it was two in the morning and neither of them had slept. Why? Probably for the same reason as well. Stress. They were both stressed by this whole thing. Afraid even. Although neither boy would admit it out loud, it was the truth, and they both knew.
“Let’s watch a movie.” Aiden suggested, turning on the huge flat screen tv, sending aiden to fetch some blankets and pillows.
Logan came back with a whole bunch of blankets and pillows from the hall cabinet.
“Woah, that’s enough for a fort. Say, that’s not a bad idea. Let’s make one and then watch our movie. Logan was excited by the idea, already beginning to plan out how to create a perfect fort.
Logan explained his fort strategy, which Aiden didn’t quite grasp.
“I don’t really get it.”
“It’s not really that hard.”
“Whatever nerd, just tell me what to do” Aiden teased.
Once their cleverly designed fort was built they tried to pick a movie.
“What kind of movie do we want to watch?”
“I don’t know, nothing scary.”
The old Aiden would’ve called him a chicken. But this Aiden doesn’t want to watch a scary movie. Every night is like a scary movie for them.
“Okay, well what’s a movie you watched as a kid that’s still good?”
“I can’t think of anything.”
“Have you heard of the Inbestigators?”
Logan shook his head.
“It came out on Netflix when we were like eleven. I haven’t really told anyone about this, but i still watch it sometimes, to relax. It’s about these little Australian kids who solve mysteries. Except on like “What happened to my purse? Or, I think these kids are cheating on a test!” And they all solve it. If you don’t want to watch I totally get it, it’s a kids show anyway.” Aiden braced himself to be made fun of.
“Sounds fun. Let’s give it a try.” Logan says, getting comfy in his spot in the fort.
The episode begins. They watch one, laughing at the stupid jokes that are obviously aimed at kids, but are still funny to the sleep deprived teens.
After the first two episodes, Logan comments,
“Seems like that girl, what’s her name? mildred-“
“”-Maude.” Aiden corrects.
“Seems like she solves all the mysteries.”
“Yeah she kinda does. She’s the smart one in the group. Like you.”
Logan blushes at the compliment from a friend.
The next episode starts, and he shifts himself closer to Aiden, who wraps a comforting arm around the smaller boy.
That’s how Ben finds them in the morning, the tv screen reading “Are you still watching?”, smiling at the boys friendly cuddling.

headphones 🎧
reposted for this blog!
After the crazy night the group has had, you would think they’d go home and crash almost immediately. Except tonight, for ashlyn, it’s not that easy. She felt her head swim. Seemingly a headache coming on, but the swirling in her stomach said that the headache wouldn’t be the only issue tonight.
Ashlyn thought back to the first time they went to the shadow dimension, back in Savanna. The day hadn’t even been that bad, in comparison to the day she had just had. That first time, they were running from just one phantom. Tonight, they had to escape far more. She was exhausted , even once she woke up the next morning. Her body ached all over. She guessed it was from the running. Her alarm was beeping at her loudly. Usually, it doesn’t seem this loud. But today, it seemed to be screaming at Ashlyn. Her sensitive hearing was going crazy. She pressed her hands over her ears, searching for her headphones, earplugs aren’t enough. She couldn’t get to them without getting out of bed, and she knew she had to get ready for school. She started to get out of bed, groaning to herself as she moves. The movement must have been too much, because she became overwhelmed with nausea, grateful for her own bathroom inside her room just a few steps away.
Ashlyn has never been a fan of vomit. She finds it incredibly overstimulating and awful. And the sounds. She wished more than anything she had her headphones right now. Once she had puked up her dinner from the day before, she headed back to bed, belly flopping onto her cozy pillows. She grabbed her phone from her nightstand, shooting her mom and dad a quick text in their group chat, telling them she woke up sick and won’t be going to school today. Within minutes, she heard her father’s heavy footsteps coming up her stairs to her room.
“Ashlyn? Can I come in?” he knocked.
“yeah.” She said, her voice raspy.
“Hey Ashlyn. What are your symptoms?” he said, in a hushed voice, as to not hurt her ears.
“Everything. And I threw up.”
“I’m sorry Trooper. Can I take your temperature?”
Ashlyn just nodded in response.
He swiped the thermometer across her forehead and waited for the beep.
“99.98. Not awful. Should I stay home from work? Mom’s already gone.”
“I’ll be fine.”
“Whatever you say. I’ll grab you some tylenol and water before I go. Anything else you need?”
“I’m alright. Thanks dad.”
“Be right back.”
Ashlyn didn’t have to wait long before he returned. He handed her the water and pills, which she downed quickly before laying back down and going back to sleep. Her dad leaned down, kissed the top of her ginger head
“Love you, Trooper.”
Ashlyn was already out.
-
Ashlyn woke up again an hour later to a buzz from her phone.
Aiden
“ash wya”
“this class is so boring without you”
“ashhhhh”
“WHERE ARE YOU!!”
“A”
“S”
“H”
“L”
“Y”
“N”
“!”
“!”
“srsly where r u”
“🤔”
“🥺”
“i guess i’ll leave you alone and stop spamming but text me back asap”
                                               “I’m sick”
She responded, hoping they could leave it at that. She had initially thought the others would be sick too, like the first time. But apparently, Ashlyn was sick for real.
“im coming over”
                                              “Aren’t you in school?”
“im leaving”
                                     “Don’t skip school, I’m fine.”
“dont care im coming i don’t want to be here anyway”
“Whatever, I don’t think                                                                                                                                                    the door is unlocked anyway.”
“ill find a way rest for now be there soon”
Ashlyn didn’t know what to say. Aiden and her have chemistry. There’s something going on between the two for sure. However, she isn’t worried about that right now. Like Aiden said, she just wanted to rest.
-
The next time she woke up, she was greeted by a great view of Aiden climbing into her window. That’s something she didn’t think she would see, but here we are.
“Hey sick girl” Aiden said, loud to Ashlyn, but probably not that loud in reality.
“shhh” she demanded from her bed.
“Oh sorry. Hey sick girl.” He said again, quietly this time.
“Hi.” She said awkwardly.
“So what’s wrong.”
Her body seemed to answer her question for her, the color draining from her freckled skin. She launched herself from her bed, dashing to the bathroom, Aiden following behind. When she left the door open, he took it as a sign that it was safe for him to come in. The sight of Ashlyn in a big sweaty heap on the floor in front of the toilet, her head resting on the toilet, was hard to look at.
He sat down beside her, beginning to rub her back.
“Are you gonna be sick?”
No, she just felt like hanging out in the bathroom for a bit. Obviously she is going to puke. That’s what she wouldn’t said if she could string together a sentence right now. But her brain was like mush.
Moments later, she burped, a gross, nasty wet burp. In a normal circumstance, Aiden might have laughed. But when it was followed by a fountain of puke, it wasn’t funny.
He rubbed her back, noticing the large chunk of her super long hair hanging in the toilet, which he was quick to grab, along with the rest of the hair. He wishes he could braid like ben can right now, but he had to settle for grabbing a big scrunchie off the counter to tie back her hair. He even found a clip and clipped back her bangs. Now with this good view of her face, he realized that the girl was crying.
“Aw. Ash. I wish I could do something to make you better right now.” he said, sympathetically.
She retched again. Her hands raising to cover her ears.
“Ahah! That’s something I can do. Be right back.”
He quickly left the bathroom, searching Ashlyn’s room for her headphones. Luckily, he found them with ease bringing them back to the bathroom and sliding them over Ashlyn’s ears.
“There you go. Okay, get it all up. It’s okay.”
He said, trying to comfort her as he ran his fingers through her hair.
Once she finally finished vomiting, she leaned back into him, ignoring their current situation/situation-ship to get the comfort she needs.
“Alright, let’s get you back to bed.”
-
Ashlyn collapsed into the girl shaped dent in her cushions and got back to her rest, finally.
Aiden took a seat at her desk, getting out his phone to start scrolling.
“Aiden?”
“Huh?”
“candle you take my temperature?”
“Oh, yeah, I can.” He said, standing up from his spot and grabbing the thermometer and waiting for the beep.
“100.03”
“Shit, it went up a bit. I gotta text my dad.”
She grabbed her phone and shot him the quickest of texts. Aiden retreated back to his spot, and Ashlyn cozied up back into her bed.
“Aiden?”
“Yeah?”
“Wanna lay with me?”
She invited.
“If you insist!” He joked, his constant smile growing larger.
He lay down near to her, unsure of her boundaries and not wanting to get too close.
Ashlyn scooted closer to him, nuzzling herself into her side, falling asleep as he listened to the rise and fall of her breath.
