Whale Store, Harmony Secret and Only you have a thing in common; and is making a strong impact in their first episode.

Whale Store makes a very good job establishing Maewnam and Wan as characters and the reasons they do the things they do, moving the plot forward and making the audience wanting to keep watching.

Only You established pretty well how smitten Tawan and Ayla are for each other and how fundamental their relationship is for each other before ripping it apart; making us want to watch how are they gonna reunite and start over.

Harmony Secret gives a strong sense of the characters and how they are entering into this dispute, using LMSY's chemistry to the max to amplify the situation. Again making the audience wants more.

We are so back.

#yeah the anime really is not being subtle here#i get wanting explicit rep and all. i really do#but i mean this one is all about someone who is like. really struggling with his own sexuality and internalized homophobia#and like coming to terms with it#like those panels in the manga of “if he can be saved then maybe i can be too”#that’s the first time yoshiki says anything that even alludes to being queer as far as i can remember#the show is doing all but outright saying that yoshiki is queer and has feelings for hikaru. yoshiki certainly isn’t ready to say it yet.#and monster as a metaphor for queerness is an interesting way to explore all of this imo#especially with the absolutely stunning art depicting the eldritch side of things#really the solution is we need more rep that is explicitly gay#this show is pretty gay already#the summer hikaru died (via @toothpaste-fairy)

now that the summer hikaru died is on netflix and getting more attention i predict that there's going to be a wave of people saying that it should be more explicitly gay but i think anyone who says that is missing the point tbh. the crux of it all is that the real hikaru died before yoshiki could admit that he loved him and now he has to spend every day with the living breathing reminder of that. it's about the yearning, the grief for something that could have been and now never will be. mourning in silence and always wondering what it would have been like if you were brave enough to be true to yourself

also four chapters in yoshiki sticks his entire arm into a slit in hikaru's chest and hikaru blushes and says it feels good so idk theyre not exactly being subtle here. tbh. this is the love as consumption anime guys
