My pookie(friend) @800mlcoffee was in the official sonic Indonesian meetup and Shun Nakamura was there!

There was some interesting Silver stuff like Shun Nakamura thinking of making an 06 remake and wanting to make another game with Silver as the MC + his backstory and the fact Silver was originally conceptualize as a Alien. Like pure Alien. Not from Sonic's world. before scrapping it to create Venice!

Shun Nakamura also says to stay tuned to the sonic friends shorts. Though I'm sure it's about Silver since Silver already has a sonic friends design so it's expected that Silver would appear at some point.

Honestly the highlight of all of these is that Shun Nakamura is so so sweet. Before the whole panel happened there was a meet and great and 800mlcoffee who was cosplaying Silver met Shun Nakamura and shun commented that the costume is cute.

800mlcoffee ask alot of questions relating to Silver and Shun was chill about it.

When the panel starts it's originally just going to be about SxS gen. But since 800mlcoffee sits at the front Shun noticed her and so 40% of the panel became about Silver.

Shun Nakamura is so so sweet and cool. I'm so glad for the success he has with SxS gen!

The leaked script for Sonic 06 notes Silver as being very forthright (straightforward and honest), focused on restoring peace and “able to get riled up” (alluding to Silver’s emotional intensity). Despite still being in the prototype stages (Silver is listed as 13~15, showing they hadn't settled on 14 yet), these would remain as key aspects of Silver’s character.

Silver’s ability to draw upon the Emeralds was also included in the climax of the Sonic Channel Silver introduction story.

Silver’s apparent conflict with Mephiles was not included in canon however.

The script also infamously likens Silver to Trunks from Dragon Ball Z, though Silver is a very different character from Future Trunks and not an exact expy due in part to those above listed aspects. The most notable difference between Silver and Trunks being that Silver is quite rude while Trunks is polite (which is apparent in Japanese with Silver’s use of “Ore” and “Anta” as opposed to Trunks’ “Boku” and “Anata” to address himself and others)

i didn’t understand what Silver’s profiles meant when they say that he’s rash but i get it now. Silver is so passionate and emotionally unregulated that he crashes out/deals with things too head on and that’s why he’s always with stoic people to calm him down and hold him back

If you look closely at Silver’s legs and the soles of his boots, you can see that the ‘is it right’ scene is the debut of Silver’s habit of sitting with his legs crossed. This is an informal way of sitting that is considered rude in Japan.

In Sonic 06's cutscenes, Silver's cuffs can be seen "closed" whenever he's not using his powers and "open (aka what we normally see his cuffs as)" when he's using or is preparing to use his powers. This goes for both his glove and boot cuffs. But to my knowledge, that small detail hasn't been seen in games (or other forms of media afaik) since 06. Do you know if there's a reason for that, either in-game or irl? Part of me thinks it's just something Sonic Team forgot about, but I'm still curious to see what you think.

Across all Sonic media there has been no elaboration on Silver’s cuffs. In fact they’ve only ever even been acknowledged in the Archie comics Post-Genesis continuity where they were registry/control items worn by everyone in the dystopian future. In Sonic 06 they have an unspecified connection to Silver’s powers as two of his level up items are add-ons to his bracelets that grant him the Psycho Shock ability(the Shock Bracelet) and enhanced psychokinetic strength(the Power Bracelet). The details of Silver’s cuffs opening and his head quills flaring up with his powers are only in Sonic 06 and haven’t been featured in any game since, though they are noted in concept art.

The lore reasons for these are unknown though the removal of Silver’s “flaring” in his cuffs and quills is likely to simply make him easier and more consistent to model and animate.

In Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), his debut game, Silver the Hedgehog's cuffs on his arms and legs would open and close depending on if he was using/about to use his psychokinesis. In most dialogue scenes he has them closed, and you can see a fainter turquoise line.

The GIF above is the best representation, as in-game the switch would always happen in a camera angle change. If you really look at the top GIF, there's a slight camera change when his cuffs open, you can also tell from this GIF below;

There seems to be no animation for the cuffs opening, instead only snapping open during camera changes, this was probably because they had two separate models, the top GIF's camera change is because they swapped the Silver model to the one where his cuffs were open, but this isn't confirmed.

This behavior from the cuffs around his gloves and boots has seemingly yet to show up in any other media. In everything following Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) they seem to stay open at all times, even when he's seemingly at rest.

Interestingly, Silver’s smile has been known to be quite enchanting. In Otherworld Comedy Act 4, Silver’s smile fills Elise with trust and joy during a critical moment in their performance when she is having a dark premonition and in Wallpaper Comedy September 2022, the recipient of Silver’s apple slices can’t say no to Silver-cut apples because Silver’s smile is hard to refuse.

In the June 2022 Wallpaper Comedy, Amy gives Sonic a pair of boots for his birthday that are designed for running in the rain. These boots are very similar to the ones Silver wears. It is possible that Silver’s boots are also designed for running in wet or unconventional climates which would make sense for the hazardous apocalyptic environments that Silver had to survive in.

The description for Sonic Comic Act 14(Act 18 in the English comic release): Pumpkin Trigger notes the overwhelming power of Silver’s psychokinesis and his brave nature stating that Silver has no regard for his own safety and is willing to sacrifice himself at a moment’s notice.

do you think he would get motion sickness from going quickly without using his powers? He mentions feeling sick in riders and he moves much slower than the rest of the sonic cast in 06, alongside never doing spin jumps/dashes. In my honest opinion, I think doing some of the movement the other hedgehogs do would kill him (exaggerating)

Definitely not. Silver is one of the fastest and most proficient flyers in the series and can handle propelling himself at speeds that rival Sonic’s. Motion Sickness only occurs when your senses believe you are still moving when you aren’t so this shouldn’t be a problem for a constant high speed flyer like Silver.

We also went over his dialogue in the Riders games that feature Silver and couldn’t find anything about him feeling sick? Not sure where you got that from. Silver is very competitive and trains his skills so he is not the type to be okay with having a such blatant shortcoming compared to his many friends and rivals.

But on the topic of Silver’s athleticism, Silver was supposed to have a Speed Boost upgrade in 06 that would allow him to run at speeds much closer to Sonic and Shadow’s but this had to be cut because the change in base movement speed couldn’t be coded properly, still the intention for Silver to also run at super speeds (albeit still much slower than Sonic) is still there which is why Silver is much faster in subsequent games, particularly the Sonic Rivals series, where he also performs spin dashes and physically battles Sonic and his rivals, even defeating Tails while his powers were drained and he was exhausted. The Otherworld Comedy series also features Silver becoming a “genius” skating coach after a career as a top ice skater in Soleanna which shows great grace and high level athleticism even without using his powers.

Continuing from this post, Shun Nakamura stated that the reasoning behind the initial name “Venice” for Silver was for the simple reason that “it’s a character that lives there” (in relation to the Venice inspired city state of Soleanna) meaning that Silver has been intended to live in Soleanna from his very conception.

So combined with everything else, we can infer that Silver does live in Soleanna, in both the future and Sonic’s time period.
